This is not a recruitment thread yet, but may become one later...

Would anyone be interested in facing the challenge of this mega-adventure? I'm just gauging interest for now.

I'm not sure what this is, but sounds interesting.

Is it for PFS credit, by chance?

Running dungeons in Pbp is a tough task. Do you have any ideas on how to keep the pace moving and combat clicking along?

Yea I ran that dungeon before and it is a task. But if your up for it I woudn't mind throwing some bodies at it. lol

Dark Archive

Not a PFS credit, sadly. TWLD was an adventure produced in the heady days of the d20 Revolution. It is a huge mega-dungeon, the completion of which brings characters from 1st to 20th level (or possibly beyond).

Review

@Mowque: Yes, I am currently running two PBP games; one has just begun and the other is an Adventure Path and is just starting Book 2. I am involved in multiple games on these forums and have seen what other GMs do as well.

Keeping combat going is pretty easy, so long as the players don't lose momentum. I have had games die off, but not due to slow combat scenes. As to the pace, I find that if the game is interesting to the players, it will generally keep itself moving, but I will impose limits on how long I am willing to wait for responses.

Mhmmmm... sounds like a wet dream to me. Already have a stupid idea of Spearfighter dwarf (a couple screw missing from head) or an omnipotent-complex possessing universal wizard having a desire to try this baby out

I could be interested in this. Considering you are a venture captain, I would hope that you are more likely to be around for the long haul than many other DMs I have been with. Nothing is worse than spending hours carefully crafting a character, only to have the DM disappear a week in. (No, I don't use HeroLab, I actually have to think about what I am doing and build everything by hand.)

I would have to think about what to play, and it would likely depend upon what the build characteristics are.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'd be interested. Nice to have a game that is heavier on roll-play then is usually socially acceptable.

Interest definitely. Just a bit worried, to be honest. If the expected play time for a regular group is a bit over 2 years, I would expect pbp would take....a long time.

So aye, I would definitely submit a character and see where the journey takes us. Especially if it supposedly goes all the way to 20.

Have you considered "fusing" some of the encounters together to keep things sped up, and maybe use gestalting to counterbalance that and keep things moving?
(Not really a suggestion as I know nothing of the dungeon, just writing unfocused thinking down there-)

Liberty's Edge

I'm in for something like that. I'm in an excellent, RP-heavy PbP, so something to sate my combat wombat side would be nice!

Dark Archive

This would definitely be more hack-n-slash than story. That said, there is a storyline in the adventure, but yes, the focus is on combat.

Dark Archive

As the linked review notes, it's not exactly riveting writing, but I'm also threading a little plot into it and I've changed a few things that I didn't agree with, so that may (I hope) improve it a little. I may also edit a few mythic rules into it.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I'm thinking tiefling magus.

...

Whaaaaaaat?!
Yes! I've read about/heard about this, and I would love to play this.

Definitely start this.

Question, does slight prior knowledge hurt my chances, when this does become a recruitment?

Dark Archive

Dot.

What's your opinion on 3pp (such as Dreamscarred Press' Path of War)?

Dark Archive

Prior knowledge does no harm to recruitment, so long as you can separate character and player knowledge. 3PP are fine, if they are covered on PFSRD.

Awesome, glad to hear that.

Do you have an idea as to when you will start a recruitment?

Dark Archive

Neat. I'm definitely interested, then.

I took a glance at your other campaigns, and it looks like you use maptools for making maps. Do you also use those maps for combat?

Grand Lodge

I would be interested in playing. A warpriest or cleric would be fun for this setting! :)

Scarab Sages

I would LOVE a game where i can take a character all the way.

What would your restrictions be? (wouldn't mind playing as an evilish character.)

Also, what gods?
Would this be in Golarion?

Dark Archive

Okay, in order:

1) No idea for start of recruitment, probably after the 25th (I'm on vacation right now).

2) Actually, I've recently switched to Roll20 for maps, as I bought a subscription. Maps will probably be homemade on Dundjinni or something similar.

3) Haven't completely decided on restrictions, save one. No chaotic evil. If played properly, they are far too disruptive to party harmony.

4) Yes, it would be set in Golarion. I haven't decided exactly where just yet.

In that case, let me just say that I had both concepts for a Chaotic Neutral Character and for a Neutral Evil Character gestating in my mind. Not saying I would submit either, but well...when I tell my group "No chaotic Evil, it doesn't fit" I already know what to expect of the guys who bring out Chaotic Neutral expecting to get a shift down. -_-

So, i'm not one of them. Just saying-

but alas, I also have a question: How do you plan to handle announced absence of a player, e.g. during a vacation? Would that be a problem?

Also, considering it's a battle-heavy scenario, would that mean optimized characters are preferable over fluff-heavy ones?(I know the best answer would probably be "should be both", but thats not always a very valid choice for all kinds of concepts or may compromise the role you aim for).

sounds like some fun

got a few alias' sitting around un-used at the moment

Scarab Sages

What, not jokers running around on the loose. Understandable.

I was thinking more along the lines of a lawful evil/neutral evil undead lord cleric.

I'd be interested in playing as well, perhaps a druid? Perhaps a Dwarf Druid?

always interested WhtKnt, any idea on specs.? You said any 3pp as long as it is on the PFSRD, hhhmmmmm.

Grand Lodge

i too would be heavily interested

Dark Archive

@ModredofFairy: Should not be a problem. I am often taking vacations, extended leaves of absence, and convention days (I attend a lot of cons). The character will be ghosted in defensive mode. They will act to save themselves or a party member, but will not take initiative.

@Robert Henry: No ideas on specs, yet. I want to get home and look at the adventure more closely before making that decision (yes, I actually bought this thing in hardcopy!).

You have the hardcover?

Awesome!

At 960 pages, does it really qualify as a hardcover, or has it been upgraded to the Tome category?

Dark Archive

Well, it can't be much worse than some of the encyclopedias at my job, that reach into the thousand+ page category. :D

At least I wanna read the 960 pages.

I would love to join in on this adventure. I've always wanted to run this one. Roll20 sounds great. I like playing neutral evil characters but dont fight within the party. I bought this module in pdf if you need help with the maps for roll20

Scarab Sages

I have been running a few games on Roll20, so if you have questions about it, I might (repeate) might know how to help ya.

Yes, I'd be interested in playing this. This sounds worse than tomb or horrors or any related killer dungeons, and I'm up for the survival challenge.

I too, would be interested.

Arcanist if you like new classes, wizard if you want old school.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Just a bump to see if this will materialize

Yeah I'm still keeping an eye on this too

Scarab Sages

luck: 1d100 ⇒ 4

Hopefully the dice are in our favor. or not... 4...

Fortunately it is a d20 game and not a d100, you need to reroll that luck check.

I think he was checking for a mishap. Weirdly enough, on quite a few d100 rolls you want to roll low -_-

Sure lets give it a go!

Consider me interested!

I've never had a chance to look at the setting, but an old fashioned dungeon crawl would be pretty stellar.

No character ideas right now, but I'll give it some thought.

I started the dungeon with this character a while back.......dont even think we got past the first room..... would definitely be interested in scaling him back to 1st level and giving it another go!

You got to level 3 in the first room?

Now, i absolutely HAVE to play this.

Yep, absolutely, let me go get my ten foot poles.

Posting interest here, was thinking of taking a human; either an initiator class or the Bolt Ace gunslinger archetype.

Is it after the 25th yet, and can we beg for character creation guidelines?

(I need to build more pathfinders)
