GM WhtKnt's Alternity: Perpetual Twilight (Inactive)

Game Master WhtKnt

A spacer's life is never easy, and doubly so in the Verge. If the kaa or the klicks don't get you, something else will. It takes nerves of steel to hurtle through the void in a tube of metal, exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations, and all that stuff.

I was going to ask about that -- should we be drawing gear from the main book or from Stardrive or both?

Dark Archive

Both. The main book should have a good assortment, but if you have access to the Star*Drive Arms and Equipment Guide, you may feel free to use that as well.

I have the campaign setting and thought there was specialized gear in it -- but now that I look, I seem to have been mistaken.

Ack. Just realized Space Fighters are Energy Age -- and we're in the Gravity Age, per the setting.

Messes a mite with my character concept, that -- problem with being piloting a cutter (or similar) is the fact that it's not a solo job (and I'm playing up the racial "doesn't play well with others" thing a wee bit).

So.... trying to figure out how to balance it out -- might go a little more bounty hunter or full-on thief, then.

Cidi medic for me then. Ill habe him up amd running soon. Was curious though, since the cidi are tiny, can they use weapons? Can my Cidi fire an SMG??

Also, out of curiosity -- do we have a mindwalker?

Dark Archive

@mokshus: Yes, they can have weapons adapted to their size. No modifications apply; a laser beam still burns, even if it's smaller and that keeps me from having to plot out an entirely different set of charts. May not exactly be realistic, but I figure it's a trade-off.

@Tilnar: No, I don't believe that we do.

I like to think that Lig'Tu is a mind walker, since he can reach into someone's skull, take their brain, and walk off with...wait, you're talking about psionics, aren't you?

I am, but that makes for an excellent visual.

Dark Archive

Must confess I've not looked at the ships/piloting recently. You can still be an elitist social pariah, as the one actually doing the driving you get to feel smug and superior towards the mere support crew.

NB: While Alita is done apart from finishing up gear, I'm more than willing to adjust to fill skill gaps.

Dark Archive

How's everyone coming? Ironclad Nomad, haven't heard from you regarding traits. Scanford, did you not wish to take any Perks or Flaws?

I continue to be finished.

I'll try my best to have time to look at the book for options for this tonight. I'm heading to PR on a business trip Monday, so if I don't get it done tonight... I'll just go with Lincoln as is.

I have Rrin (the Pershala fighter pilot/thief) statted and ready -- but there's the issue of justifying the fighter-jock mentality and what was meant to be his history (stole experimental fighter for a joyride) given that it's the wrong age.

So, I've started building a human mutant mindwalker now -- but if you'd rather in stock to the original plan, I just need to figure out a way to make a semu-nice editable sheet to post him.

Perked and flawed

Dark Archive

Posting this in all my games:

Some of you may or may not be aware, but my wife has glaucoma which has already claimed the sight in her right eye and is eating away at the vision in her left. To further complicate matters, she had a cataract removed from her left eye, but during the operation, there was some minor temporary damage to the optic nerve. Long story short, it should heal in two to three months, but until then, I am her official reader. She can make out blurred images of people and if they speak, she is pretty good at recognizing voices, but she can't read anything.

Further, I am the only one of us who drives, since her vision started getting worse last year, so I have to take her to any and all doctor's appointments. About once every two weeks, she has to go to Tulane in New Orleans, about 90 miles away (and that's not to mention local appointments, errands, shopping trips, etc.). So if I seem slow to respond or post, please bear with me. If I am a player, bot me as needed. If I am your GM, rest assured that I have not forgotten you. I may just have had a hella busy day.

Null sweat. Take care of the people who take care of you.

Dark Archive

Getting real tempted to go with those who are ready and let the others join in as they get finished.

Dark Archive

The gameplay thread is now open for those who are ready to play. Assume that you all came on the same freighter to the Verge and have gotten to know one another during that trip.

Just going to stick with my original idea -- way too out of practice to build a proper mutant mindwalker.

I should scan the recruitment threads more often to catch gems like this.

I played plenty of Alternity, back in the day...

You still seeking players?

What errata and optional rules are you using? Specifically, are you using 2A, 2B, 2C?

Dark Archive

Eratta, yes. Optional rules, no. If combat becomes a problem, then I may consider using ruleset 1. You are, however, free to join us. I'll work you in if you are interested. Right now, they are at the Lighthouse in Tendril system dealing with a minor problem.

What exactly does the group have now?

A Mechalus/Aleerin Tech Expert (mechanic - that would be me), A Weren Combat Spec, a Pershala Free Agent (Pilot) and a Human Diplomat.

I highly recommend rule 2C, otherwise the escalating cost of skills forces everyone to be a generalist, with no specializing in a few skills, and all heros end up looking very similar.

Let me see what I can come up with.

Hey GM, can you activate the Discussion read, so I can stop spamming up the recruitment thread?

What do the existing 4 think the group currently lacks? Besides a Mindwalker, which I suppose I could do, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Probably a medic, by Lig'Tu knows that the secret to not needing a medic: don't get hit.

Other than that, we don't really have a captain (kirk/solo/reynolds/glovell/okita/tylor) for when we get our own ship.

I would have expected Lincoln to be the Captain, he is all but written to be a Han Solo type.

GM, how hard will it be to be Sesheyan in this game, you know, Voidcorp saying they own them and all?

I think I have my concept ready though, now to put some numbers on paper.

A Seshayan was my other choice, I love those things. I used to have a lot of the old Ecology articles from Dragon (I think they also gave D&D stats for at least some of them), wish I'd hung onto them.

With a catfolk and a Weren though I'm glad I went with something a little more human-shaped. otherwise it would just be Lincoln and the menagerie.
