Hmm... statistically, I think the 20% twice route gives you a better chance than the 40% once... but not a big one. =)

Now that we see the plant proper, Knowledge to ID the plant? Nature? Planar? Other? Neither?
Will use his Chronicler faction card boon to gain a +3 on this check and go with:
Knowledge (any of those): 1d20 + 11 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 3 = 17 (+3 more if arcana)
(mostly interested in resistances and SR)

The description of the room mentions other 'multi-armed humanoids' in amongst the foliage? Are there more xill, or something else?

"Stop yer blowin' ya gob." Milo mutters, as he gives Jaysin a sidelong glance.

Even as he does so, small tendrils of flame start to crawl along the edges of his sleeves and dance between his fingers. His focus seems to draw inwards for a moment, than it all gets directed outwards, towards the strange plant in the middle of the hold.

Suddenly he starts uttering arcane words in draconic, and the flames shoot up excitedly, lapping over his outstretched arm, before launching across the interposing space.

I can't Selective these with the rod (lvl 4 slot) so this seems like the only chance I'll get to cast it in these enclosed spaces... So guess I should do it now before everyone gets down there (I appologize ahead of time... don't usually toss the damage spells so often, but those xills in the last fight had me worried... and there might be more popping in soon!)

empowered fireball... targeting the plant.
Will use the default element (aka fire!), unless the knowledge check indicates something else might be more appropriate.

If one of the others gets down there before it goes off, he will shift the center point back as far as he can and still get the plant and no allies. Drew a template on the map.

SR on the Xill: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Empowered Fireball damage: 10d6 + 23 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 2, 5, 2, 4, 3, 6, 4) + 23 = 57 * 1.5 damage (DC 21 Reflex for half)

GM: If there is a SR checks required for the plant too, feel free to roll it(he's at +11 caster level with the fireball)

Map's not necessarily the greatest. This top portion of this level does not have plants on it and its fine. The lower level to the east is the difficult terrain portion.

@Artian- Very little time to do much of anything as the Xill was watching and waiting in the area, expecting you.

@Milo- not going for any advantage. Mainly going off of the fact that it is two separate effects that are happening.

All but one of Jaysin's arrows flies true as three arrows slam into the Xill's shoulder, leg and head. The Xill falls to the ground just as quickly as it was seen.

Jhalan darts forward and studies all that he can. Out of all of his years Milo is unable to identify the unique plant. he knows that nothing like this should exist on this plane of existence.

The multi armed humanoids among the foliage were 'meals' for the plant

Milo releases a massive fireball into the lower section of the room. The fireball incinerates what is left of the xill but seems to have little effect on the plant as a whole as it takes up more of the ship than Milo could ever think. The fireball just manages to burn a small section of the creeping plant.

Artian gives everyone a small blessing of fervor while Lem inspires the group forward. Cornelius leaps forward and moves into a defensive stance.

One by one more Xill phase in from the ethereal plane and quickly surround Cornelius.

Red Shortsword vs Cornelius AC 29: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27

Yellow Shortsword vs Cornelius AC 29; flanking: 1d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 13 + 2 = 22

Onlyone of the sharp blades is able to find a spot through Cornelius' armor.

Surprisingly the plant remains pretty docile and just sways back and forth. It seems the Xill cleric must have been controlling it in some sort of fashion.

Lucky for you :)

Heh... I hate plants, so worth a shot! (85 AE damage was a bit obscene, to be sure! =) Remains to be seen whether Jaysin's arrows survived the blast! Heh.)

Milo looks on in satisfaction as the fire consumes a large portion of the hold. But the satisfaction is short-lived, as the plant remains once the smoke clears, even if the Xill was reduced to ash.

Snarling in annoyance, he dodges forward to get closer, as if intent on bathing the world in fire once more, only to be interrupted by a second group of Xill appearing out of nowhere.

Using Blessing of Fervor bonus for the extra movement

He frowns as the flames flicker along his fingers, then speaks more words in draconic, and makes a horizontal slashing motion with one hand causing a fan of flame to gush out, engulfing the nearest Xill and nearby vines alike.

Casting intensified Burning Hands on the yellow Xill.

These Xill are sttuborn in attacking us even when it means their death. Anyone knows why? Asks Artian surprised by so much stuborness in those creatures.

Milo and Artian quickly send the lone Xill back to its realm as it is burned alive.

Basically the plant takes up most of the ship. The Cleric Xill that you one shot was supposed to control it to eat you while the rest of the Xill hassled you. That plant cannot be damaged by anything has a Grapple and slam ability allowing the xill cleric to paralyze. Though without the cleric it is inert so good job!

Searching among the foliage of the creeper uncovers the xill treasures in the form of supplies, gems, and exotic materials picked up during their jaunts across the planes.

so what's up with the 'Clearly discernable within this taproot are the huddled forms of unmoving humanoids.' part? (from the initial room description)

Can we check those out?

Milo continues to swear at no one in particular, glaring around the hold angrily.

Eventually, he calms down enough to go examine the plant more closely

"Stupid bludgers were knappin' the weed, for sure." He mutters.

"Might need ta torch the whole lurk ta get it all." He adds, as he ponders what it would take to burn the entire plant.

He will use his wand of recharge innate magic to get back the daily use of produce flame... I missed not having it!

He will use said produce flame, as well as cast mirror image on himself, before we go through the next (pseudo-secret) door.

I want to be able to walk right says Artian just before casting Freedom of movement on himself. I can do the same for one of you, but then I'll not be able to let you attack more quickly if necesary. Anyone wants it?

Also he renews his Shield of faith before entering first in the secret passage. With AC 27 I'm the best protected, so I`ll risk to go first unless anyone wants that "honor"

This feels like the heart of the strange ship, and the pulse of its energy is almost palpable. The cabin is dominated by a cube composed entirely of brass that balances on one point atop a 3-foot crystal plinth, where it rotates slowly counterclockwise. Every inch of this cubiform monolith is covered in cramped script, symbols, schematic designs, and glyphs. Blue tracers of power flash across its surface every few seconds and are absorbed into these etched
characters.

The symbols and sketches on the cubic helm are indecipherable for the most part, having to do with an advanced form of non-uniform spatial mathematics that has been largely lost since the fall of Azlant 10,000 years ago.

Knowing a little bit doesn't seem to help too much. Jaysin takes a look and finds a single line of script hidden within the jumble that appears to impossibly incorporate writing in Ancient Osiriani hieroglyphs. Loosely translating the stream of random, unrelated characters seems to provide incontrovertible proof that the inhabitants of ancient Osirion did indeed have contact with the King Xeros at some point in the distant past.

The entire helm acts as a giant puzzle box of which various parts can be slid around to create new configurations of the characters on its sides.

Sure we can... but should we? =)

Milo studies the cube for a bit, muttering to himself in gnomish as he does so, occasionally stopping to read a rune in Azlanti, or swear colorfully in orcish. Nothing seems to offer any insights.

"Hag's definitely rugged." He says finally with a scowl, confirming his earlier observation.

He points at the cube. "Guesthouse or the screw though?" He shrugs clearly not sure if the cube is the cell or the key to opening it.

"Bludgers back there, ain't much for hired help." He offers, with a shrug back towards where the xill were. "So the judy's more likely scran than roller."

He glances at Artian. "Is flash what could do it... rug ya tight in a chunk 'o gin like that. Conjurations likely. Hocus way over my napper."

"Mostly just blow things up." He concedes, clearly not sure what sort of magic is involved.

Trap the Soul maybe?

"Planar prigs, hags." He adds. "But might prefer us to this shake?" He adds, thoughtfully.

"Granny I can tool it." He adds, as he starts to work out just which runes one would need to press.
