I'll be playing Altronus, as long as there's no disagreement.
Agreed, Raia. Selection of avatars is even more limited than with Pathfinder.
| Raia Danviri |
Hmmm, is "Character" supposed to be my actual SFS character's name? Seeing Altronus' entry, I fear that I answered that wrong.
GM Tyranius
|
Just waiting for Pathetic Wretch and then we will begin.
@Raia- Name doesn't matter too much as you can only do so many iterations of the pregens names on the forums and yea I agree. They should have rolled out dozens on pics of the new races with the release. That would have been easy to do.

I meant for the game recording. Do you need the name of my character associated with my SFS number?
GM Tyranius

Ah yes. Just in case it doesn't auto populate with the number.
GM Tyranius

Yup. I think we have:
Solarion
Technomancer
Mechanic so far.
Soldier is open for play.

In that case...

So that was fun! I didn't know Raia had that in her. Maybe the Starfinder Raia doesn't, but the random Mercenary Raia does?!
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
Well played!
| Raia Danviri |
Likely it's the Tier 4 Pegasus from the SFS Guide.
| Raia Danviri |
Likely it's the Tier 4 Pegasus from the SFS Guide.
Close, but no cigar! The shields are off. Other than that, it's the standard Pegasus.
| Raia Danviri |
It was pointed out in another thread that a Lashunta can speak with multiple people at a time telepathically. I will be doing this.
Tyranius
|
Correct. Though just remember if someone responds back to you through that telepathic link that only you will hear it and not all.
| Raia Danviri |
No problem!
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
Raia, I'm curious where you found those rules on Lashunta telepathy.
The rules from the CRB (limited to two short sentences, alas) seem to be:
* They can initiate telepathy with any creature (no telepathy required for the recipient) within 30 ft that they share a language with
* The respondent can answer back telepathically, even if they don't have telepathy (RAW mention "conversing" and "listening")
* They can communicate with multiple creatures simultaneously
* They can have as many one-to-one telepathic links as they are able to handle, the only limitation being their ability to handle multiple conversations at once
Not clear from the RAW:
* Can they do a group "broadcast" to everyone within range?
* Can they do a "party line" where selected individuals can hear everyone in the telepathic session, with the telepathic initiator serving as a switchboard of sorts?
* Is there a limit on the number of connections created in a single action? For example, standing in the center of a large, noisy crowd, to how many creatures could a Lashunta or Shirren mentally shout "Danger!"?
* What kind of action is it to initiate a connection?
Thoughts? I'm planning on GM'ing SF soon and I'd like to get it right.
| Raia Danviri |
Lashuntas can mentally communicate with any creatures within 30 feet with whom they share a language. Conversing telepathically with multiple creatures simultaneously is just as difficult as listening to multiple people speaking.
"creatures" tells me I can send to multiple.
"conversing" tells me this is a two-way conversation.
"with multiple creatures simultaneously is just as difficult as listening to multiple people speaking" tells me exactly what it says, although it could be arguable as to just who the "listener" is here. If the "listener" is the Lashunta, as I believe it is, then it is telling me that if I open a channel with multiple folks and they all try to respond at the same time, then it is "as difficult as listening to multiple people speaking." If the non-Lashunta is the "listener" here, then either it is talking about the case where multiple Lashunta are trying to talk to them at once, otherwise there aren't multiple incoming voices to have to sort through.
In practice, I interpret the above as a Lashunta can "open a channel" if will with any subset of folks in the area (20') that he/she chooses. In doing so, those contacted can communicate back to the Lashunta, but if multiples do so, it may be tough to sort who is saying what.
In practice, a room full of Lashuntas could telepathically be a party of folks chatting and "whispering" in whatever groups they choose.
The broader rules on Telepathy state:
It is possible to address multiple creatures at once telepathically, although maintaining a telepathic conversation with more than one creature at a time is just as difficult as simultaneously speaking and listening to multiple people at the same time.
This is even more clear tat one can broadcast to multiple folks at once. Again, the word "conversation" tells me it is definitely two way. I don't find it hard to communicate TO a crowd, at least an attentive one, the difficult is in sorting out what a crowd is returning, and thus my interpretation is as above.
| Raia Danviri |
Wait! Are you asking me about why I can't aid another in this effort?
My spell has a duration of "concentration." Concentration takes a use of my standard action each round to keep it going.
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
Ah, I forgot you were using an SLA. Interesting about Concentration in SF! It's one of my least favorite aspects of 5e, but it does tend to dampen the insane power of a high-level spellcaster.
Now I need a list of spells that require Concentration for when I create a spellcasting character.
Today I am much less ignorant than I was yesterday. Thanks!
| Raia Danviri |
My pleasure!

Just about time to wrap up here and get into space combat. There are some suggestions for which pregens are best for which roles in the space craft, I'll C&P them here, but you are totally able to move them around as you see fit.
Altronus: This kasatha solarian serves as a modest captain but has few other starship-relevant skills beyond being a backup gunner.
Iseph: This android operative is the best pilot, but would also make a good science officer or engineer.
Keskodai: This shirren mystic does not particularly excel at any role on a starship, but would make a decent captain or science officer.
Navasi: This human envoy can serve in any role on the starship well but is best suited as the captain, pilot, or science officer.
Obozaya: This vesk soldier is best as a gunner but would also make for a fine—if domineering—captain via use of the Intimidate skill.
Quig: This ratfolk mechanic makes an excellent engineer or science officer.
Raia: This lashunta technomancer makes a good engineer, science officer or pilot.
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
I think we decided on:
* Altronus - Gunner
* Obozaya - Gunner and/or Captain
* Quig - Engineer and Science
* Raia - Pilot
Wait...you mean people are going to be mean to us??? How rude!
| Raia Danviri |
If a fight happens and we're a 4 person crew, I vote for 2 gunners, a pilot, and then Science Officer or engineer.
Our best gunner on the turret, and next best maybe in the forward guns. I mean, why not use our best guns, but we always get a turret shot!
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
Obozaya is a better gunner than I am. She can be Captain and with a Minor Crew Action be an equivalent gunner to me, so I suggest she take the turret and I'll take whichever of the remaining gun mounts is appropriate.
@GM, can Obozaya serve as Captain from the turret, or will there be a Move action required to switch roles?
| Raia Danviri |
She can't take an action as Captain and still shoot.
GM Tyranius
|
You can take a minor crew action regardless of your current role, but only if no other action was performed this round for the role associated with that minor crew action.
So you can be the Captain and still shoot but only if noone else is a gunner at all. The gunner action would be a snap shot with a -2 penalty. PG 326 in CRB.
The only 2 minor crew actions are for pilot and Gunner:
Glide (Helm Phase, Minor)
You move the starship at half its normal speed. The starship can
take turns during this movement, but the starship’s distance
between turns increases by 2. You can add your ranks in the
Piloting skill to the starship’s AC and TL for this round. You can
only take this action if no other pilot actions have been taken
during the helm phase (including glide).
Snap Shot (Gunnery Phase, Minor)
You can fire one of your starship’s weapons with a –2 penalty
to the gunnery check. You can take this action only if no other
gunner actions have been taken during the gunnery phase
(including snap shot).
****
So before we push onward need to lock in the roles.
* Altronus - Gunner
* Obozaya - Gunner and/or Captain (Which one?)
* Quig - Engineer and Science (Which one?)
* Raia - Pilot
| Quig | Ysoki Mechanic 4 |
I'll take the Engineer role.
| Starfinder - PW |
Sorry for the delay...I couldn't get any time to post yesterday.
It sounds like maybe my skills would best serve us as captain, then taking the shot at the unused turret at the -2 penalty?
Let's try that.
| Raia Danviri |
The turret is our best gun, I recommend Alteonus be on that one, so he always gets a shot. Pick any of the other guns, and I'll try and keep your arc towards the enemy, unless we take a pummeling on that side that Quig can't shore up.
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
Keep in mind that if I (or anyone else) takes a gunnery shot then no one can take the Minor Crew Action to make another gunnery shot.
I'm probably gonna House Rule that to the cornfield in my games, so as long as there's an empty weapon station the crew can remotely use it. But RAW I don't believe we can here.
Same with MCA for piloting. As long as Raia and I are at our stations, there's no MCA's available.
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
I think I've already decided that in my Starfinder universe, each ship's onboard Artificial Intelligence is going to be an NPC under the GM's control.
I'll make my PC's ask it to do things, and depending on how well they roll, they might get a cryptic or wrong answer, or possibly even have it misunderstand the request.
Then, when it's quietly hacked by the Bad Guys because the PC's were too cheap to buy countermeasures, it tries to kill them. Some ships may have a nuts-and-bolts business only personality, and others might end every communication with a risque flirt. So many possibilities!
| Raia Danviri |
Wait! That's exactly how I've been playing Raia! I'm just about to try and kill everyone for the bad rolls!
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
I'll be out most of Saturday the 16th with limited ability to post. Please bot me as necessary.
GM Tyranius

That is a good idea for the AI. I may use that for my Dead Suns Campaign.
| Quig | Ysoki Mechanic 4 |
The whole scouting thing? I think it was built for that purpose because it had cameras and enhanced cameras as mods. =)

Need character info from Obozaya still for reporting purposes. This is the very end of the scenario.
Gameday Boon Rolls
Altronus: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Quig: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Obozaya: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Raia: 1d20 ⇒ 9
GM: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Win on a 1 or 20
| Quig | Ysoki Mechanic 4 |
Sorry. Very new to this boons system. What are boon rolls for? And the scenario is done?! Time really flew on that one. I had fun. My first ever PbP AND Starfinder experience. Thank you everyone for this wonderful experience..=)
| Raia Danviri |
Huzza!
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
Thanks, GM and everyone! Well played!

The boon rolls are for GameDay 6 going on now. It is treated like a convention so you have the chance at winning random boons for games played throughout.
This scenario is done. It leads up for future exploration within Salvation's End.
Will report and have chronicles up once I get Obozaya's info.

Anyone looking to apply this chronicle to a level 1? Or is everyone saving it for lvl 3?
| Raia Danviri |
Saving it.
| Caro Cogitatus' Altronus |
What's the benefit of saving it?
GM Tyranius
|
If apply it at lvl 1 it lowers the gold tremendously. If apply it once character turns level 3 then you gain full benefits of the chronicle.
