GM Turmoil |
Terril hits the swarming bats with alchemical acid, and dozens of them fall to the floor as their wings begin to melt. Sensing the threat, the bats engulf Terril in a whirlwind of little teeth and claws.

Terril exits the swarm while drawing another acid flask and lobs it at the bats.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Scatter: 1d8 ⇒ 2
The flask lands east of the swarm, splashing it. (1 damage to the swarm)
Torrel the Sacred Exorcist |
I can't really either.
GM Turmoil |
I was going to wait for Laureglyn but it doesn't look like she could help much anyways.
Terril misses with another flask but the splash still injures some bats. It scares them enough that the remainder scatter and fly away. Upon searching the room you find a potion of Cure Light Wounds but little else besides rubble.
Out of combat!
Same options as before, take the stairs or try climbing the rubble.
Laureglyn |
sorry, didn't realize you were waiting for me...
"Up the stairs is fine with me... " Laureglyn states flatly. He draws his blade and readies for whatever waits up the stairs.
GM Turmoil |
The group proceeds up the stairs to another door, but this time it is unlocked. As soon as you open it you see crude bunks line the walls of this room, which is filled with the nauseating stench of troglodytes. You quckly realize why, as there are three more lizardmen, just like the others, resting on several of the beds.

GM Turmoil |
The group seizes the opportunity and rushes into combat against their foe. Vulen swings with his blade but only manages to smack one of the bunks, but his tiger manages to tear a chunk out the one with red eyes. Torrel sends a bullet flying into a wall, and the blue scaled lizard manages to just deflect Terril's blow. The other lizardman, with the green loincloth, runs through the nearby door to the southeast, shouting in a foreign tongue. The two remaining troglodytes take on their attackers, but their inexperience in combat clearly shows.

GM Turmoil |
The magus catches up to the panicked lizardman and manages to cut its head clean off at the shoulders. Goran moves up to help out the tiger, while trog with the blue skin isn't able to deflect Terril's blow this time and it slumps to the floor. Torrel finally throws a bullet true and it hits right in the chest, just as the tiger gets the trog in it's jaws again and brings it down. The larger lizardman drops a charred rat into the brazier and rushes at Terril to slash with a claw but can't penetrate his chainmail.

Out of combat!
A brazier of glowing coals sits in the center of this room, its acrid smoke mixing with the ever-present troglodyte stench. A few knives, pokers, and other metal implements lie atop a rusty iron box nearby.
The room to the north of the bunkroom, has cracks in the walls and ceiling of this chamber have allowed rainwater to collect here, flooding the room and giving rise to a profusion of mold and fungus along the walls and ceiling. In the middle is the corpse of a dead frog, looking like a pincushion full of javelins. There is also a small jade statue of an angelic being lies among the rubbish under a broken table.
Upon searching the bodies, you find nothing of interest on the three young Troglodytes, or in the bunk room. On the much bigger one, you find a canteen etched with his name, Tulok, as well as a key ring. One of these keys opens the iron box in the room that holds a suit of masterwork studded leather armor, a masterwork buckler, a masterwork rapier, a shortbow with 15 arrows, a scroll of cure moderate wounds, a scroll of invisibility, a wayfinder, and a climber's kit.
You hear a muffled noise coming from the room to the northeast, but find the door locked. It's quickly unlocked by one of the keys though, and you find a closet sized room with a man huddled in the corner.
He holds his arm up as his eyes adjust to the light. "P-p-please enough. Let me go. I won't say a word, I swear!" His face slowly changes from fear to elation as he realizes you are not the Troglodytes. "Did the Society send you? Bah, that doesn't matter, just please release me. Have you any food or water? I have barely had anything in days. They talked of sacrificing me to some god of theirs and you got here just in time."
Laureglyn |
Laureglyn pulls out a packet of rations and his waterskin and offers them to the man.
"Glad we got here before that dire event happened... I am Laureglyn and of the Society, yes.. might you share your name as well? And here is some food and water to slake your hunger and thirst. You have not eaten or drunk much if anything, so don't gorge, eat sparingly now and have more later or you will make yourself sick.. you may keep those, I will replace them when I get home."
Torrel the Sacred Exorcist |
As he hands over something to eat and drink, Ill walk over and take a knee, beginning a quick exam on the captive.

GM Turmoil |
Though he has bruises covering his body from multiple beatings, he does not appear to have been tortured although he is obviously dehydrated and malnourished. He is down 6 HP
He graciously accepcts the rations and water from Laureglyn, and recounts the events as he eats. "My name is Balenar Forsend, and like you I am a Pathfinder. When I had heard rumors about a 'fallen fortress', I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to make a name for myself within the Society and came to investigate. That's when I discovered these brutish Troglodytes that had moved in were using it as a base of operations to waylay nearby travelers." He stands up and steadies himself against the wall as he tries to regain his wits. "Oh I know I shouldn't have come alone, but I was getting so tired of boring fetch assignments and wanted to prove I could handle more. If it weren't for you however, I most certainly would be dead with a day or two."
"I know I have shamed the Society but if you allow me, I would like to help you rid this place of these Troglodytes once and for all. Their leader lives on the top floor, though I've only seen him once. The one they called Tulok had taken all my gear and locked it away. Even if you decline my offer of assistance, I do ask that you let me keep my belongings."
If you chose to let him help you, I have posted his stat block up top. One of you can control his actions in combat.
Laureglyn |
"I don't think anyone here would even think of trying to commandeer your equipment, Balenar. But if you're going to help us out, we need to heal you... Would you mind magical healing? I have to ask because some people don't like it."
if he doesn't object, Laureglyn will use his wand of infernal healing on the fellow and we can wait 6 rounds while he heals up and equips himself from what Tulok had stashed away - I assume that's all his, right?
Laureglyn will show him the stuff found. "This all yours?"
Torrel the Sacred Exorcist |
Or I. I wasn't sure if he could be healed, per se, though, or even wounded.
Laureglyn |
ok... the wand WOULD be overkill for him, since he only needs 6 points, but was willing to use it anyway just because a channel or a clw might not be enough
GM Turmoil |
With a little help, he dons his gear, and the healing has already helped brighten his mood. "Ah thank you for the kindness. Yes, that is my gear, though I'm surprised they didn't take anything. Getting that stench out will take me weeks I fear. Shall we rid this tower of its occupants then?"
He has basically told you that the next fight is the leader. Feel free to do any buffing you would like and just let me know who will be giving me actions for Balenar. I will get this going tomorrow.

Taking a knee and bowing his head, Torrel asks for divine guidance and protection for the assembled Pathfinders, allowing a mote of light to well up near his holy symbol, then letting it explode in a harmless display of holy fervor, washing over all in the area, bolstering their minds and bodies.

With preparation complete, you head up the center staircase again to the top floor. The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings. The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center, where a spiral staircase drops out of sight below. A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest. Behind the chair, is another lizardman, this one dressed nicer than the others, with an albino alligator at its side.
