Davosh the Wanderer |

"We don't like this place one bit. I feel this crucible will either make our stories for the future, or end it. Kappi, I have come to trust your scouting. What else is here to check before ascending towards our weird?"

Kappi Matarito |

The forflurry thing, that weird old lady goat freaky lady... Just went through those doors. Lets get her! Come on guys.
Kappi hefts a fresh tomahawk and heads for the door. He hopes everyone will follow.

GM thunderspirit |

Kappi races after the fey and flings open the double doors, hand axe at the ready.
A long red carpet extends from the doors into this mirrored hall, between ice sculptures of twin nymphs, ending at an open alcove to the east with a crystal similar to that which got the party to this level.
Passageways continue north and south, curving along the contours of the tower with windows to the outside.
Kappi Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Kappi notices that one of the doors in the room (indicated on the map) is just barely ajar.

Davosh the Wanderer |

Am I missing a map update too? I can only see the first floor.

GM thunderspirit |

Oh, whoops — was in Vojtek's spoiler since he went up alone, but I never updated the campaign tab. That's been done now.

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

Ali nocks one of her alchemically treated arrows and follows right on Kappi's heels.

GM thunderspirit |

Moved everyone up to level 2. Kappi is in front of the door, and I placed everyone around him. Absent dissent, I'll post the next room sometime today (might be this evening CST due to work interfering with my gaming, LOL).

Davosh the Wanderer |

Real Life Sucks. No objections from me. Davosh gives Kappi the Guidance of Ancestors.

GM thunderspirit |

As Kappi kicks the door wide open, he hears strange words finish — the words are similar in cadence and sound to the type that Ali and Davosh sometimes use. The rogue sees a lovely woman brandishing a sword suddenly grow to twice her size!
Behind her, he can see the forlarren with her lute in her hands, also ready to fight!

Kappi Matarito |

sorry for the delay, didn't realize things were waiting on me
Round One
Kappi enters the doorway and cuts to the left clearing the doorway for the rest of the party, (and getting out of the fatal funnel).
The supersized female fighter seems to be the biggest threat in the room, and the biggest target. Without hesitating the rogue throws his tomahawk.
throwing attack (point blank, deadly aim)1d20 + 8 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 1 - 1 = 22
tomahawk 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 8
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Though somewhat lacking in raw intellect power, the young Varisian has excellent situational awareness. like Archer?

Being the first to act in the round entitles our intrepid rogue to sneak attack damage, does it not??

GM thunderspirit |

It does. Flat-footed opponents are fun!
Kappi's forgotten sneak dice: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
Kappi's tomahawk lands squarely in the large woman's side!
Vojtek!

Vojtek Wartooth |

Round the First
Vojtek runs into the room and swings the awkward heavy flail over his head. He rather half-heartedly swings the weapon at the lady. The northman is a bit unsure of the morality of attacking a woman, but since she is clearly threatening him and his group, he makes a probing attack.
Heavy Flail: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 for 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 damage.

GM thunderspirit |

Tried to get to this today, but the day got away from me.
FYI, taking my mother into the hospital for some outpatient surgery tomorrow so I may not get to post for a bit. Shouldn't be a big deal, but at her age and in her health, nothing is routine anymore.

GM thunderspirit |

Vojtek's flail fails!
The woman laughs. Fools! You shall pay for your visit to the Pale Tower with your lives!
She five-foots back and casts a spell!
A trio of blue bolts of energy slam into Vojtek, hitting with tremendous force!
bolt 1 — trip vs. CMD 20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
bolt 2 — trip vs. CMD 20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
bolt 3 — trip vs. CMD 20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
The second bolt knocks Votjek prone!

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

ROUND 1
Ali takes a quick look at the situation. Vojtek on the ground, but still engaged with the big lady, and the fey behind, not yet engaged. While ganging up on one foe is typically preferable, the warrior decides for the clearer shot.
Fire a cold iron-treated arrow at the forlarren
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 <--waa-WAAAAAHH
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Davosh the Wanderer |

ROUND 1
Davosh slides over. His normal eye grows wide at the BIG woman. "Ancestors!" The mystic whispers beseeching words to the Ancestors and aims the Big Eye at her. An inky black ray shoots forth. 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 1 = 14 (Ray of Enfeeblement.) 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 STR penalty. FORT DC 17 for half.

GM thunderspirit |

Ali's bow shot sails over the Forlarren's head!
Davosh has more success with his ray, however!
DC 17 Fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
The woman seems to lose some of her might!
The forlarren begins to play her lyre, and both she and the woman seem to gain courage from the tune!
Edward, Kappi, Vojtek!

![]() |

Round 1
Edward movess through the door, and takes a shot at the enlarged woman not even oogling at the ginourmas distractions, rather using them as targets.
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Kappi Matarito |

Round 2
The Varisian lad almost panicks when he see the sturdy barbarian go down. But he sees Vojtek still moving (and probably furious that he was knocked down). Kappi decides to keep a little distance and holds his ground drawing a javelin, he doesn't want to move into melee range w/ the giant woman till he is at least supported by one of the other party warriors. He raises and throws!
throwing attack 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 - 1 = 10
tomahawk 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 9
Even as the javelin leaves his hand he knows it will miss. He at least hopes it buys Vojtek a moment to get to his feet.

Vojtek Wartooth |

Round the Second
Vojtek hits the ground with an audible "oof" and clearly has the wind knocked out of him. The dazed look in his eyes gives way to an amused grin as the man looks up at the large woman with renewed interest. A glimmer of lust can be detected in his eye as he gathers himself for a quick leap to his feet.
With a grunt, trying to keep low and distant with the full knowledge of just how vulnerable a target he is, Vojtek surges to his feet with the fluid grace of a seasoned warrior as he sees Kappi's javelin fly overhead.
Just as he gains his feet, but before he has his balance, the large woman... (Insert AOO here)
In a flash, Vojtek counters with his flail!
Power attack with Cold Iron Heavy Flail: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 - 1 = 27 for 1d10 + 8 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 3 = 21 damage.
Absent his usual blinding rage, Vojtek pours all of his might into the attack in an unusually well-placed blow...
Confirm: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 8 - 1 = 12 for 1d10 + 8 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 3 = 20 more damage.
...but the careful aim gains him no extra advantage as the buxom enemy's curves distracted the barbarian at the moment of impact.

GM thunderspirit |

Edward's bow shot sails past the enlarged woman!
Kappi's javelin flies past on her other side!
As Vojtek attempts to rise, she takes her attack of opportunity on the barbarian!
AoO: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 10 - 4 = 18
dmg: 3d6 + 7 - 3 ⇒ (1, 3, 1) + 7 - 3 = 9
She hits, but Davosh's well-timed ray of enfeeblement helps save the feral warrior for a MUCH more painful hit!
His attack, in return, strikes a vicious — but not quite lethal — blow!
In a rage (flavor, not game mechanic...although if anyone in this book deserves to be rewritten as a Bloodrager, it's this enemy!), and evidently immune to Vojtek's, er, "charms", she attacks the barbarian again!
take THAT: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 10 - 4 = 16
take THAT: 3d6 + 7 - 3 ⇒ (3, 1, 5) + 7 - 3 = 13
Ali, Davosh!

Kappi Matarito |

In a rage (flavor, not game mechanic...although if anyone in this book deserves to be rewritten as a Bloodrager, it's this enemy!),
generally speaking Kappi tries not to think while he is in action. He feels that well trained reactions are much quicker. However, the mostly unused part of his mind muses about Bloodragers. He considers carrying a back full of leeches to throw, thinking that if the leeches drain off the excess blood then the bloodrager will be out of rage... Though cutting them full of holes w/ bladed steel seems to accomplish the same thing.

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

ROUND 2
Ali decides that Vojtek can take the warrior down--and she herelf still has a clear shot at the Forlarren.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 <---WHAMMOOOOO!!!!
Cold Iron damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 <--wa-WAAAAAAA
Crit damage: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (8, 2) + 2 = 12

Davosh the Wanderer |

Evil Stink Eye Hex, affecting her attacks. Will DC 18 to reduce to 1 round (instead of 8).

GM thunderspirit |

Ali's arrow hits home!
A very quick check of the rules doesn't reveal anything to indicate that a bard needs to make a concentration check to continue her performance.
DC 18 Will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Davosh's hex hits, but she shakes off the worst of the effect!
The forlarren continues to play, but the song shifts a bit; the tune is familiar to Vojtek, as for the second time tiny ice shards fly out of the forlarren's lyre and pelt him!
2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
(Area of effect indicated on map, DC 12 Refl save to negate)
Then, as a move action, she opens the door behind her, revealing a narrow, curved hallway beyond.

Round 2
Edward hearing Ali's warning assist the rogue in his quest for stopping the bardish forlarren.
May Apsu's blessing steady my aim to bring you down Forlarren
Longbow + Smite: 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 4 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9xtra dmg and bypass DR only if she is evil
As Edward's arrow flys towards the target he concentrates on Vojtek life linking with him.
Vojtek heal 5hp, Edward take the damage 26/31

Kappi Matarito |

Round 3
Without thought, Kappi heeds the elven woman's command. Light on his feet he pulls his short sword as he moves, trying to catch the forlorry thing before she gets through the door. If he must Kappi will chase her through the door.
can he still make an attack? Or does he spend his whole action moving? GM ruling?

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

I'll presume here...I see no reason you couldn't move & attack, as you can draw a weapon as part of a move action if you have +1 BAB or greater. But, know that the economy-sized woman there will get an AoO on ya due to her increased reach.

GM thunderspirit |

This.
He can try an Acrobatics check (double movement for each needed square, total of two squares) to avoid the AoO.
Presuming that's what Kappi does, Acrobatics DC is 22.

Kappi Matarito |

The nimble rogue scrambles past the large woman.
Acrobatics 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
A few awkward dips and ducks then a sideways crowhopping motion and the thief is past the threat.
Kappi finishes his round with a short sprint and he hurls himself at the door to try and keep it shut. (So the Forlorry cant use it at an egrets)

Vojtek Wartooth |

Gah sorry for the delay... been working for the last 48 hours or so for the storm.
Round Three
Power attack with Cold Iron Heavy Flail: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 8 - 1 = 12 for 1d10 + 8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 3 = 16 damage.
Vojtek continues his attack with half a mind to throw down his weapon and draw his err... sword. The only thing stopping him is Ali's presence.

GM thunderspirit |

More egrets! MOAR!
Also, Captain Hestrig is grateful for Vojtek's alleged restraint. Presumably Ali is as well. ;-)
Also also, I missed Edward's smite arrow attack.
Edward heals the barbarian a bit, and his arrow shaft strikes home with the blessing of Apsu! Meirul cries out and appears to take every last bit of the damage (even though she didn't ping as evil when Edward checked in the camp before — WITCHCRAFT)!
Kappi nimbly bounds forward, ducking under the Brobdingnagian woman's blade and getting all up in Meirul's biznatch (not to mention her egrets)!
Vojtek, evidently unaccustomed to the odd feel of something that's not his longsword (giggety), swings and misses!
The Captain, bleeding from several wounds and weakened from Davosh's ray, desperately attacks Vojtek again!
Have at you!: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 10 - 4 = 7 <-- Sad trombone
Ha HA!: 3d6 + 7 - 3 ⇒ (4, 2, 6) + 7 - 3 = 16

Davosh the Wanderer |

Davosh cackles maniacally to extend the Evil Eye, meanwhile targeting the other foe. (Targeting AC.) DC 18 to reduce duration. The mystic then slides a little closer.

Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein |

ROUND 3
Ali lines up another shot at the bard
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Cold Iron damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
She decides to try to egg Vojtek on a bit
Come on, man!! is that all the better you can handle your weapon?!?!
Sad trombone
I was always partail to this

GM thunderspirit |

Ali: that's a good one too. :-)
Davosh laughs and Evilly Eyes the forlarren! DC 18 Will save: never mind, cos of Cackle it'll be here as long as needed...can't tell I have a Witch, can you? ;-)
Ali fires, but even with the Evil Eye in place, her arrow can't find its mark!
Meirul five-foots through the open door and continues to play, her song taking on a faster, more desperate tone now and in a different language.
The words to the song appear to be a call for help!
1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 9 - 4 = 18
You can hear a faint, muffled response from beyond where she is playing!
M 17

I thought Kappi shut the door...yes, he did:
Kappi finishes his round with a short sprint and he hurls himself at the door to try and keep it shut. (So the Forlorry cant use it at an egrets)

GM thunderspirit |

It's a move action to open/close a door, but I'd say that's without facing any resistance. The forlarren is pretty darn insistent on resisting, however. But she did only five-foot, and Kappi now has a full round of actions...
