Davosh the Wanderer
I think that EXACLTY.
"No simple boy made this statue. Kill it. Kill it with fire." I'll cast Detect Magic and look about, Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
GM thunderspirit
What? It's just a snowman...
You get a faint aura of transmutation all about, but that's probably due to the unnatural winter. You also get a faint illusion aura in the direction of the stream, but can't seem to isolate its origin.
This is the easiest crossing of Wishbone Creek between Lake Taermain and Owl Lake. The ominous dark shapes beneath the ice are likely stones used to ease across the ford.
Davosh the Wanderer
"Eh?! Ominous wouldn't you say. Kappi, waste not such a useful item. Try an ax first."
Vojtek Wartooth
Vojtek looks to be on the verge of walking up to the snowman and hacking it in twain.
Davosh the Wanderer
Davosh notices the barbarian's brash behavior and opts to assist, but taking out some jerky and petting Liska.
Kappi Matarito
At Davosh's suggestion, Kappi slips the alchemist fire back into a pocket. He pulls out a tomahawk and closes distance to 10 feet. With a quick motion he targets the snowman and throws.
1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 = 18
tomahawk 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 = 3
GM thunderspirit
Kappi quietly moves closer to throw an axe at the snowman. When he is nearly to range (15 feet away), its mouth appears to come alive! Can't you read! The sign says turn back! Now get lost!
Then it appears to return to its inert state.
In a near panic, Kappi closes the remaining five feet and hurls his axe, which sinks deep into the snowman's torso. The snowman does not react.
Davosh the Wanderer
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 Magic Mouth?
Here's something for you. What language? If Taldane, do I recognize an accent?
Linguistics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Local: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
I'm trying to determine if it's a local, fey, or Northerner's doing.
GM thunderspirit
You are pretty sure it's a magic mouth spell. The words were in Common (which is, in fact, Taldane), though they were a little high-pitched, even for a female voice. You do not recognize a regional accent.
Davosh the Wanderer
With a grumbling voice, "It's fey magic."
Vojtek Wartooth
With a roar Vojtek charges the snowman and attacks with his new longsword!
1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 - 1 = 9 for 1d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 9 damage.
GM thunderspirit
Vojtek charges at Davosh's pronouncement.
When he gets within five feet of the snowman, the snowman seems to let out a bloodcurdling scream!
includes circumstance modifier for not seeing the spell cast
This is a sound burst effect.
Vojtek takes 1d8 ⇒ 8 damage Fort DC 18: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 but is not stunned. He is, however, surprised enough that he runs past the snowman, missing it entirely.
A: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
D: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
E: 1d20 ⇒ 5
K: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
V: 1d20 ⇒ 2
You see movement from the surface of the frozen stream.
Edward W.Fell

Edward raises his crossbow, towards the southern thing in the water.
He then shouts to them. I am Edward W. Fell, please identify yourselves, and state your intentions. We come in peace, but will defend ourselves if provoked.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Ready an action if they try to attack shoot the southern one
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein
Ali gives a grin, and speaks quietly. I have an idea, boys. I'll see if I can make our invisible friend there panic into error...
She steps behind the larger form of Vojtek to cover her spellcasting, then mutters the proper incantations and performs the gestures of a Ghost Sound spell. Then, from just across the river, a human voice can be heard.
You might want to turn around, friend. Maybe YOU should get lost!
Will DC 13 to disbelieve
GM thunderspirit
You concentrate on the snowman, but it stubbornly refuses to not be real. A quick detect magic reveals only fading residual dweomers, as the spells set here have expended their energy.
The moving shapes Kappi pointed out appear very real as well.
Vojtek reels a bit, clasping his hands to his ears as the ringing slowly subsides.
Kappi's sharp eyes have saved the party from being surprised by the two creatures who rise out of the ice. From the waist up, the features are vaguely humanoid, but below its body is a snake-like, slithering tail.
These creatures are ice elementals. They are immune to cold-based attacks, bleed, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning. They do not take additional damage from precision-based attacks (sneak attack) and cannot be flanked.
They can pass through nonmagical ice and snow as easily as a fish swims through water. Burrowing leaves behind no tunnel or hole, nor does it create any ripple or other sign of its presence. They can move across icy surfaces without penalty and do not need to make Acrobatics checks to run or charge on ice.
Initiative!

Davosh 18+

Edward 17
Kappi 5
Hey, I remembered Vojtek posted the group inits! Maybe you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!
Ali, Vojtek, Davosh are up!
Davosh the Wanderer
I think the Disbelief was for the baddies against Ali's spell.
GM thunderspirit
I think the Disbelief was for the baddies against Ali's spell.
Right you are. O.o
Stupid are painful. Make brain hurt.Will save DC 13: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Will save DC 13: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15
One appears to turn toward the sound, but no recognition flashes over its features.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein
ROUND 1
Thanks, D--you were correct. :-)
Ali nocks an arrow and fires at the beastie who was not distracted by her spell.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Davosh the Wanderer
I cast Daze on the one who is not distracted. Will DC 15. Fail=miss a turn.
Vojtek Wartooth
Round 1
1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 1 = 7 for 1d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 2 = 14 damage.
Vojtek tries to bite the non-dazed enemy. When that fails he hacks with his cold iron longsword.
GM thunderspirit
Ali fires an arrow, which strikes the northernmost elemental. It snarls as only an elemental which speaks Aquan can snarl.
Will save DC 15: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16
The southernmost elemental ignores the pretty light Davosh creates.
You know, from your history, that charging onto ice is usually a Very Bad Idea, and to melee with these creatures at the moment would require moving onto the surface of the frozen stream.
GM thunderspirit
GM both Vojtek and I have the Ice Walker Trait... Can move across ice as normal movement.. ohhh and +1 on cold saves
Cheaters. :-P
Vojtek tries to bite, but quickly sees the folly of that tactic, even in his anger (yes, I know he's not raging), and whips out his sword. Giggety.
Both elementals converge on Vojtek.
slam N: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
slam dmg N: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 plus cold dmg: 1d3 ⇒ 3 plus numbing cold
confirm?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
slam S: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
slam dmg S: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 plus cold dmg: 1d3 ⇒ 3 plus numbing cold
Numbing Cold (Su) When an ice elemental deals cold damage to a creature, that creature must succeed on a Fortitude save or be staggered for 1 round.

Round 1
GM did my readied action go off? If so here's the roll attacking the one not in Melee
Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22<~~~Crap not affected by Crits
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Edward shifts away from Ali using the lesson learned last fight. Vojtek stay off the dark spots where the rocks are the ice will be thinner and crack easier
Edwards takes aim and shoots the north one unless it's dead then the other one
Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22<~~~~CRAP CRAP CRAP Still not affected by Crits
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Kappi Matarito
Round 1
Kappi takes a 5 foot step diagonal south/west.
The young lad pulls a javelin from his spears and throws it at northern critter.
Throwing attack 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 = 18
javelin 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 = 7
Vojtek Wartooth
Vojtek is staggered, stunned, down and dying. He is convulsing on the ice surrounded by his foes, foes he never even crossed blades with.
-6 HPs. Crap.
Kappi Matarito
From out of the woods emerges a generic looking barbarian. He says, "Hello, I'm Angr-O, a traveling warrior. I notice your group has no Barbarian."
You seem trustworthy, you should join us.
Edward W.Fell
|
Vojtek is staggered, stunned, down and dying. He is convulsing on the ice surrounded by his foes, foes he never even crossed blades with.
-6 HPs. Crap.
Um???? how are you at -6hp? you should have taken a total of 5 dmg and be staggered. The confirm of the crit, and the South's attack shouldn't have hit your ac
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein
ROUND 2
Ali curses the bad luck Vojtek is experiencing, and is hoping these beasties' attention can be brought away from him. She concentrates briefly and her bow flashes with a quick burst of light, then she fires again.
Arcane Pool point to make bow +1, then step closer and fire (step shown on map already)
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 <--what the...figures, 3 20's and a non-crittable critter!!
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
GM thunderspirit
Yeah, sorry guys. Was planning to run at a convention Friday night (and only then), only to find much of Saturday vanish as well. That's what I get for accepting a promotion to officer rank, huh? ;-)
Edward's readied action lights into the southern creature. It snarls similar to its companion.
Kappi flings an javelin at the northern beast, piercing what appears to be its skull and finishing it.
Ali's bow shot lands squarely in the elemental's torso, finishing what Edward's crossbow began. (Edward's second shot never happens, but no saving the 20. Sorry.)
Out of combat!
Vojtek Wartooth
Angr-O pokes Edwin. Vojtek looks pretty bad, maybe just let him die.
Davosh the Wanderer
"You'll never get to be a legend if you take a forever sleep in the snow. Get up." CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Vojtek Wartooth
Vojtek thanks Davosh sinerely if cudely and gestures rudely to the woodline where Angr-O disappeared without a trace.
Edward W.Fell
|
Edward again concentrates linking himself with Vojtek, transfering his life essence into him. Then says a quick prayer to Apsu asking her to grant him some more vigor for the day.
Davosh is correct, get up lets search this area, there might be clues, and the elementals didn't make the snowman or sign. So they might still be around, left other traces, or at worse victims.
Edwards takes a deep breath, and looks at the sky to see what time it is. My curative magic is gone for the day, but maybe we can push on a little further
Vojtek Heal 10 HP~~~~> Edward takes 10hp dmg
CLW on Edward: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5<~~~fn brilliant I think I've rolled higher than a 4 once so far on my CLW.
GM thunderspirit
That's what you get for trying the Draw-Cubby-for-an-Art-Scholarship school for Oracles. ;-)
GM thunderspirit
It will make a difference, so please indicate where on the map you're moving to search.
Ali'yanah D'ohr'hein
If the search starts taking Edward toward the center of the river...
Ed, you should take some steps. Tie a rope to your waist so Vojtek and I can hold it in case you fall through the ice.
