Cyrus can wait to see how Lort's average check works out if you like... oh, and I can see the catching yourself wouldn't work because of the invisible stalkers (did you mean 'stalkers' or 'servants'?) catching you instead. No reason simplifying it should make you fall when you otherwise wouldn't.

GM_TheBobJones |

Aeotsep’s idea of an honorable fight prohibits dealing lethal damage, and he opens his bag to reveal an array of wooden weapons—including any weapon the PCs use except firearms. These function as normal weapons of their type, except that they deal nonlethal damage. If a PC ascended the spire unaided, Aeotsep instead offers that PC either a masterwork version of the weapon or the one lesser merciful metamagic rod (Pathfinder RPG Advanced Player’s Guide 295) in his bag. If a PC prefers, she can keep her own weapons, but Itephta warns that any use of lethal force will result in his ending the competition.
The platform’s edge curves upward, providing creatures at the edge a chance to catch themselves if they start to fall. A creature knocked off the edge during this encounter can catch the edge with a successful DC 15 Acrobatics or Climb check. A creature can lift itself back onto the platform as a move action with a successful DC 15 Climb check.
So that was the rub, if you take 10 but are below the Climb check, you don't ascend. So does that mean you fail the climb, or you get an additional roll (i.e. a 4th roll)? Urg, regardless here we are.
Horray! You all made it up. So now you all have a choice, use your weapon and take the -4 penalty, or use a Masterwork wooden version.
Let me know in the gameplay thread. Once everyone gives the OK, COMBAT!!! I used your indicated marching order, and the MAP should be editable. if not I can run out at lunch and jump on some unfiltered WiFi.
And for all that is holy - UPDATE YOUR TAGLINES. That is all.
Lort it is stalkers.

![]() |

FYI - My tagline is updated (finally got it a few days ago) - looks right for now. I will update after I hear the result of my query to the master.
Should we assume that we received masterwork weapons?

![]() |

Stalkers? *shudder*
Oh, but way cooler.
So that was the rub, if you take 10 but are below the Climb check, you don't ascend. So does that mean you fail the climb, or you get an additional roll (i.e. a 4th roll)? Urg, regardless here we are.
Think about it from a tabletop perspective.
Player: I have +4 climb. I take 10 on my climb check for a total of 14.
GM: You can't seem to make any progress climbing the mountain. After a minute of trying, you are still only a few feet off the ground. Luckily, though, you don't fall.
Player: Sh*t. Better roll it then: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
GM: 15 passes, and you make it 1/3 of the way up the hill.
Player: Woo! I'll roll the rest: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15, 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
GM: You make it 2/3 of the way up, but can't quite seem to make the last 1/3. Try again.
Player: Come on dice! 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
GM: Congratulations, you made it all the way to the summit, but take slightly longer than the rest.
...or...
Player: Come on dice! 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
GM: You fall. Just as you feel you are about to meet your doom, an invisible force catches you and flies you to the top of the spire.
Thats 8 posts just for one player out of 6 if it were on PbP, which is clearly not going to be an efficient way of doing the encounter. But the player saying "take 10" then you make progress / no progress / fall, followed by a set of rolls if no progress on take 10 (as we ended up doing) makes sense for PbP.

Meh, got a connection, wrote a post, and then lost the connection. I hope I'll be able to retrieve it from my iPad once I'm back at the hotel. Heading home tomorrow, back to modern information society...
Amaranti cast reduce person on himself, and chose a wooden lance for weapon, and mounted Kaisharga.

GM_TheBobJones |

Son of a mother puss bucket - starts to throw computer - stops - RAGE!
So once again my BBEG is stuck at the bottom of the Int order. ::sulks::
I had an int table ready yesterday, and then today a new one loaded and both freaking times she was 2nd to last. Curse you random dice gods.
Oh well, to be upfront she is AWESOME. I have all sorts of GM love for her. As a high level character she has lots and lots of abilities and I am going to do my best to run this without retcons. There are so many moving pieces to tier 6-7, talk about jumping off the deep end. I solemnly swear to do my best to run this smoothy, but things might get hairy.
Also, offline part of the day tomorrow, daughter (weather permitting) is performing and I have family obligations after.
And for clarification sake, the party is average level 5 so she is the tier 6-7 stats w/ the 4 party adjustment (Which are actually pretty harsh)?
A party of five to seven
characters whose APL is between two subtiers must play
the higher tier with the four-character adjustment.
Never mind - found it on my own. Lucky for you or she'd kick all your asses.

![]() |

Wow... you aren't kidding! There is a ton of moving parts, just for my character alone at this level. Good luck with your BBEG... :)
Just realizing after that post how much I am digging the synergy between the feat I found and the boots I found... Cyrus is going to be really really good at dancing around the battlefield wherever he wants without getting hit, and actually using that to his advantage to increase his chances to hit.
I might need to rename him Muhammad Ali - he will be dancing circles around his opponents while jabbing at them... I might need to strongly consider how heavy of a feat tax it would be to get to feint as a swift action so that I can make it even more formidable...
tumble through a square avoiding the AoO, feint, gives me a +3 to attack and would take away the opponents dex bonus, plus give me my 3d6 sneak attack damage... yikes! :)

GM_TheBobJones |

How are you at moving in Difficult Terrain? I can see you and Finarin with his slippers really messing with opponents with their movement and Amaranti eventually flying.
Damian has had the fortune of ruling on all these abilities while I have just been observing all the dice rolls.

![]() |

Oh, the fun. Well, at least you weren't last in the initiative order like some. Sigh.
Speaking about rulings and so on, pretty sure Amaranti's lance has reach and so does Kaisharga. I know he got Lockwooded to adjacent, but I don't think he needed to be. She didn't hit anyway, but I'd like to know: Does the monk-chick have more than 10' reach with that longspear of hers?

![]() |

Yea, small still has reach. Not sure if I would prefer reach with Pooka or not, makes it harder to charge in confined spaces...

GM_TheBobJones |

Great job. I was really hoping for a TPK but I had a few factors work against me.
1) Shitty Int. In the Prep round she set up Combat Patrol, essentially giving her a 15 threatened range.
2) Due to the adjustment, she did not drink her potion of Bulls Strength nor Cats Grace + she was fatigued. That is a -6 to Str and Dex
3) She has crazy movement abilities, should has Spring Attack and Nimble Steps with a 50' movement but you all crowded around her and the dais was too small to use all her abilities well since you had the entire middle covered.
I actually wanted Lort to try and push her off so you would all be on one side, she was using her Ki to boost her defense, and then I was hoping to last another round and run over and down Miro.
All in all you guys really pack the DPR and have great builds. Kudos.
As for the trials, you all got max points per trial. You get 1 point per trial if someone succeeds, and another 1 if 50% succeed. You all had greater than 50% on each trial. And you got a ton for dropping her. Tomorrow begins part 2, but I am giving my Scarab Sages a bit o' time. Reread what I sent you friends. Well played boys, well played indeed.

![]() |

Thanks for the "free" wand charges... :) and there are few things I enjoy more than being able to spend all my ki points more than once in a scenario... :)
Also - pretty sure if she was fully buffed she would have come very close to killing me outright. yet again another think to keep in mind for things that actually want to kill me...
Speaking of...

Where “We have tracked the Doomsday Knights to an abandoned mine located more than a day’s travel north of here.” Who “They are a cult of Rovagug led by Tasutek, a priest granted considerable physical strength by his patron. Most wield divine power in one form or another. The church of Sarenrae warned us of this group, which fled the Dawnflower’s wrath in An and found refuge here.”
/checks reading comprehension skill level. pfff... Got them fooled.

GM_TheBobJones |

It says 1 check every 10 minutes, it does not specify when that happens. We can move that to a later time, but the rolls will stay the same.
So for right now, no NL damage, no Fatigue, but I will be keeping track of rounds.

![]() |

"Every 10 minutes" usually means at the end of 10 minutes and every 10 minutes thereafter.
When you linked that paragraph from the PRD, I fixated on "doused in water" and thought "where could we find water?". I just saw this under Lort's spell list:
. . 0 (at will)—create water,
Oh, yeah. If it doesn't break the spirit of the rules or anything, would you mind if Lort started periodically casting that over his companions' heads? I think 10 gallons of water counts as being "doused". ;-)

GM_TheBobJones |

I always feel that a bad GM does not allow creative uses of a character's abilities. Douse away, but I am going to impose a -20 chafed in the britches penalty to all attack rolls ;)

![]() |

I knew Miro should have worn his polyester leggings and kept the cotton at home today.

![]() |

If it matters, I would read "every 10 minutes" to also be at the end of the time.
Damn... Faustus is going to have to get his armor polished after this. Hope the enameling holds ;)

![]() |

Holy Cyrusing, Batman!
Thats what Sheeba said...

![]() |

Yeah, Gunari has a couple, I think, not that it helps us here. Haven't had the need before this for Faustus. Unfortunately, it is Faustus and Lort that are the most vulnerable due to their heavy armor.
Faustus does have Lesser Restoration as a spell, FYI.

![]() |

Cyrus has 2...

I have a brand-new, sparkling, still in the packaging scroll with 5 uses, if needed.

![]() |

5 uses? That's an interesting number... I assume you paid 125gp for that (and kept the receipt for your records, of course. Your books are in order, Mr. Ammars, are they not?)

![]() |

Then you should have had 6 castings on the scroll. Probably still there. You should probably cast one of those on me, since I pointed out you tried to cheat yourself. Never a good thing.
This is why you should always keep your books in order.

![]() |

Ehhhh....I think I used one in the jungle, baby. I thought we might die.

![]() |

So, I guess it isn't "still in the packaging"? ;)
Editorial EDIT: Always so easy to slip into Faustus's personality.

![]() |

Good to know we have options to endure the heat.
I think Silbeg needs to gain a negative level to his rules lawyer class for that one! ;-)
... Especially for the bit where he was trying to extort a "free" casting from Miro!
Edit: Missed the significance of the packaging! Heh.

Ok - I've got a potion of touch of the sea, gives me a swim speed. Might be best for Lort or Faustus actually... Elixir of swimming just gives a big bonus to swimming which I am not to bad at anyways.
We have the scroll of freedom of movement which from how I read it should allow someone to operate in the webbed area without worrying about it. It does specifically say you can swing underwater without the penalties for fighting in water.
Lort and Miro both have scrolls of delay poison, which should probably be cast on whoever is going into melee with the blob...
We might spend an uncomfortable amount of time pre-buffing in the fight... but it might be the best choice considering what we are up against.
Cyrus will have to grab what he needs then drop his pack before swimming through the water...

![]() |

So, potion of touch of the sea to Lort, I will drink elixir of swimming, Lort and I go for the bum on the island.
Scroll of freedom of movement and delay poison for Faustus, delay poison for Amaranti, and those two go after the webby-blob from the abyss. Ibid fires arrows from his current location, while Miro can inspire and cast spells from the shore as well.
Am I missing anything? Any other ideas? Who all can cast freedom of movement and delay poison from the scrolls? I would hate for that sequence to take 3 rounds... Amaranti and Miro should be able to cast them both right? Can Faustus cast the delay poison? Then that whole sequence takes 1 round instead of 2...

![]() |

Gonna change that already...
In light of the climb check to go over the rocks, Cyrus can't fail, with a bonus of +11 due to the ring of climbing. I don't need to swim, so either faustus or Amaranti should take the elixir of swimming....
