Anis Aniland |
That generous and pious gnome, Anis Aniland, makes an elaborate show of tossing a coin worth 10 gp into the bowl...
...then waits until everyone's backs are turned before "making change" by fishing a coin worth 5 gp out of the bowl with mage hand.
Ygdnur Copperhand |
Ygdnur looks at the shrine with a great curiosity, trying to discover the deity.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Being slightly superstitious he also tosses a coin in as well.
GM Tektite |
All the party members, but Badr offer a coin to the shrine and all five feel a sense of well-being wash over them afterwards.
The rest of the day's journey is fairly easy as the party descends back into the lowlands. The following day, the party enters an area of swampland. Though the trail is more treacherous, the party manages without falling into the miasma too many times. The geound begins to slightly rise and the trail becomes drier, the the surrounding area is still full of bogs. Towards the end of the day, traveling along the trail, the party sees a large log rests across a dirt path, standing five feet tall. A moldering wood door covers one of the hollow ends of the log, and a makeshift mud chimney emits a thin wisp of blue smoke. From behind the crude house come the sound of someone humming an off-key tune.
Anis Aniland |
Aniland calls out in every language he knows (Common, Sylvan, Draconic, Gnome, Ancient Osiriani, in that order), "Hello, there! Nice house you've got. Do you mind if we pass by, or should we go around?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Faldoc Tisbane |
Faldoc will ave his bow at the ready but will also keep the aim down for now. Perhaps we should just go around in any case.
GM Tektite |
Faldoc Tisbane |
Faldoc will try to climb up onto the log and see what it is, exactly, that occupies the other side.
Climb: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (15) - 3 = 12
Ygdnur Copperhand |
As a dwarf Ygdnurs climbing abilities are... less than stellar. He opts for going around the log, taking a up a post behind the bush. Not necessarily attempting to be stealthy, just staying far enough away to be prepared. And he's got his axe out.
GM Tektite |
Faldoc clamber up onto to log and see a an old, female kobold on the other side, leering at him.
Ygdnur begins to move around the north side of the log. Suddenly there is an explosion of water as an alligator emerges from the bog and attacks the dwarf.
Alligator Attack vs Ygdnur: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Badr al Din Ibn Badriyah |
Badr takes aim and fires at the Kobold.
Fizzle Fittz!1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage 1d12 ⇒ 9
Misfires: If the natural result of your attack roll falls within a firearm’s misfire value, that shot misses, even if you would have otherwise hit the target. When a firearm misfires, it gains the broken condition. While it has the broken condition, it suffers the normal disadvantages that broken weapons do, and its misfire value increases by 4 unless the wielder has gun training in the particular type of firearm (see Gunslinger). In that case, the misfire value increases by 2 instead of 4.
Badr spends grit to fix the problem, dumping the damp powder out of the firing pan and then pounding the musket face down to clear its contents.
Quick Clear (Ex): At 1st level, as a standard action, the gunslinger can remove the broken condition from a single firearm she is currently wielding, as long as that condition was gained by a firearm misfire. The gunslinger must have at least 1 grit point to perform this deed. Alternatively, if the gunslinger spends 1 grit point to perform this deed, she can perform quick clear as a move-equivalent action instead of a standard action.
And then takes a 5ft step backwards
Faldoc Tisbane |
Faldoc will shoot said leering kobold.
Bow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Ygdnur Copperhand |
Ygdnur reels from the snapping jaws of the Alligator, being thankful that it didn't land the blow. He replies swiftly with his ready axe.

Faldoc fires an arrow at the kobold, but misses narrowly.
The kobold snarls at Faldoc and begins chanting, her club, begins to glow and elongate.
Ygdnur swings at the alligator, but also misses narrowly.

Uh-oh, that can't be good. Put that down, nasty little kobold! Faldoc will shoot again when his turn comes around.
Bow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
GM Tektite |
Malik moves into the bog to aid Ygdnur. With a blood curdling scream, the aasimar brings his spear down on the alligator. The spear pierces the base of the gator's neck, going all the way through and pinning it to the ground. The reptilian twitches a few times and then ceases to move.
Anis edges toward the back of the group and blesses the party.
Badr, I moved you up or else you don't have line of sight. The log is five foot tall, the kobold is only like three.
Badr moves forward, resting his musket on the log. He takes aim and fires at the kobold. The bullet punches into the kobold's chest, causing her to flinch in pain.
The kobold withdraws a twisted stick of ash and touches it to herself. Anyone watching, notices her bullet wound begin to knit itself back together.

Faldoc draws back and fires an arrow, piercing the kobold's shoulder.

Cursing over damp powder he again uses one of his grit to clear the barrel.

Tomoe Gozen |
Tomoe stops the encouragement, feeling it doesn´t help much at the moment.
Instead, she casts a spell. You hear her whispering tantalizing arcane words which the connaisseurs among you will identify as a daze (DC 16) spell. Also she moves around the log, encircling the kobold.
Anis Aniland |
The gnome attempts to climb onto the log, first just enough to see over, then enough to stand up and shout a commanding word in Draconic. Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Casting Command ("Halt"). The kobold needs to make a DC 15 Will save or do nothing next round.
Although, with that climb check, perhaps I'm the one doing nothing for a round. :)
Badr al Din Ibn Badriyah |
Badr breathes a sigh of relief.
It seemed it was protected by the fates, the way my powder failed... where is that large lizard?
Faldoc Tisbane |
Maybe you should trust surer methods, Badr. Faldoc waves his hands toward those without guns. They don't seem to need powder.
Faldoc will search the kobold and the area outside surrounding her. Meanwhile others might look inside the "house" and if they do I will join them when I'm finished here.
Faldoc Tisbane |
Is that 8 @ 100gp each or total?
Faldoc holds up the wand, Anybody need? and will offer it to whoever the group decides.
Faldoc Tisbane |
I figured, just checking.
OK, where to from here? I think I forgot just which way we were headed before all the excitement.
GM Tektite |
The party gathers their gear and heads off down the trail. After another uneventful day of marching and night of camping, the sleepy village of Pier's End comes into view. After a few mores hours of marching, the party arrives in the outskirts.
The sleepy fishing village of Pier’s End offers a warm inn, a hot meal, and a way for the party to travel to Escadar on the Isle of Erran.
Faldoc Tisbane |
Ah, the comforts of civilization. Beats sleeping on the ground.
I will replenish my arrow and food supply and wait for word from the party that we will be on the move again. Of course, I'll take advantage of a warm bed and a hot meal... and a cold drink.
Anis Aniland |
Aniland sees to it that the kobold's body is properly disposed off before they leave the area.
"Were we given money for inns and boats and such, or is it out of pocket? We don't have to pay for Mister Rees, do we? Is anyone around here awake enough to ask about boats? Any interest in buying or negotiating trade agreements?"
Faldoc Tisbane |
I'll let you smart folks figure all of that stuff out. All I want is food, drink, and shuteye. Let me know what you guys decide in the morning.
Malik Van'Hilth |
Malik shrugs, "I can help find a boat if need be. I don't believe we were given advanced funds for room and board but the Society usually seems to reimburse once we've completed our mission. Anyone care to join main securing transport?"
