"Huh... really?", Kharax surprised by Alpha's observation. Reviewing the body again, he sighs. "Dammit Prime, I'm a blacksmith, not a doctor!"
Richard Mithril |
With a slightly uncomfortable smile at the unintentionally funny comments by Alpha, Richards nods his agreement to head east.
We aren't particularly stealthy, but Richard will take the lead to look for traps and ambushes. If someone has another idea, let me know.

GM Tektite |
Squeezing through the narrow passage, the party heads to the east, where a dark cavern opens up, its twenty-foot-high ceiling thick with stalactites. A rocky shore overlooks a placid pool and stream, fed by a trickle of water leaking from a narrow fissure to the north. A small garden of toadstools and dark mold grows along the banks.
Standing among the toadstools in a white fleshed humanoid with a frog-like head and large white glowing eyes! It turns to the party as you enter and takes a threatening stance, as it croaks out. "Gollum! Gollum!"
The creature turns its eerie gaze on the party and a bright light floods out of its eyes! DC 13 Fort Saves for Richard and Maruf or blinded.

Richard covers his eyes just in time. Drawing his rapier, he moves up behind the Cobbler.

Richard Mithril |
@Kharax: Richard doesn't know you can heal, and I don't mind burning them. We're a new group so figuring out what we can do will be a work in progress, so feel free to enlighten me after this combat. :)
Richard steps into the underground stream, clearing the way for Alpha or the Cobbler to retreat if they need to.
GM Tektite |
Alpha withstands the blinding light and bashes the blindheim into he ground!
Richard manages to avoid looking into the light!
Maruf: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Kharax: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Maruf manages to avoid being blinded, but unfortunately, Kharax is caught staring directly at the creatures eyes and all goes dark.
Out of Combat
Maruf knows enough about blindheims that he is able to alleviates Kharax's fears by informing him that the blindness is only temporary and will wear off in about an hour.
A a cursory search of the pool reveals a man’s body, mostly eaten. Little remains to identify the body. A belt pouch on the body’s hip is still intact and contains 42 gp, a silver unholy symbol of Zyphus worth 25 gp, and two water-tight potions of cure light wounds.
Alpha Prime |
Alpha adjusts his shield as the party searches the body. "Superior technology wins again." He thinks keeping it to himself. Gloating was not a logical response.
"Is everyone fully functional?"
Richard Mithril |
"Aye. Undamaged." Richard says, then frowns at his reflexive response. "Uninjured, I mean."
Looking through the items, Richard suggests Alpha take one of the potions and Kharax the other.
I'm wondering if there is any relevance to the holy symbol. Is Zyphus an unusual god to worship in this area?
Bardic Knowledge: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Maruf the Cobbler |
"I told you there was a Zyphan around here!" Maruf exclaims before spitting on the corpse. "You all shrugged it off but I knew the Grim Harvestman must be behind my many misfortunes! F&!#ing wife, f+#~ing genie, f$$#ing fire, f*%%ing missing wizard! Zyphus!" The enraged tiefling spits on the corpse.
Kharax Fireshield |
"Gaaaah!", Kharax shouts as his eyes lose functionality. After being told about the temporary duration, he calms down, although he is frustrated his carelessness is slowing the group down Assuming everyone will wait until Kharax has full vision again.
Maruf the Cobbler |
"Nyeeehhhhh! Are you better yet, orc? Come on, we've got a wizard to find and a fire to start!"
Richard Mithril |
Peering up the water-filled passage to the northwest, Rochard says, "I'm fairly certain that loops around to the entrance chamber. That leaves only one way." He points to the passage heading south. Keeping his rapier in hand and trying to be quiet m, he heads that way.
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Maruf the Cobbler |
"Well let's make sure nothing sneaks up behind us though!" Maruf says as he tramps through the water to the northwest.
Kharax Fireshield |
After waiting the prescribed time, Kharax's sight returns, the half-orc exhaling in relief when it does. "Sorry to keep ya'll waiting; let's go!"
GM Tektite |
Heading to the northwest, the party sees that the water does indeed double back to the same waterway. The shallow creek runs through the middle of this cavern, while to the south a stony bank rises up from the water. Thick carpets of green and gray mold and fungus grow on the bank, particularly around a trio of three-foot-high, foul-smelling mounds. As you enter the cavern, the some of them moled begins moving toward you!
