GM Tektite |
Hraiken shrugs at Savage. I dunno, I've seen dozens, no make that scores coming and going. From this vantage point, its hard to distinguish who's who. At Hawthorne's question, the half-orc turns and exclaims. Look at the big brain on this guy! He shakes his head. Look, I've seen some dressed in Mantis clothing, other I'm just assuming their Mantis. If theys ain't Mantis, theys associating with em'. Just as bad in my book. He steps back and takes the fulls measure of the party for a long moment before shrugging. Well you going in? Or do you have more questions?
Gina Bateman |
"Nope, not going in yet. First, we gather some more information. We know there are assassins behind the waterfall somewhere. So I'll find out exactly what we are getting into."
Gina casts Darkvision, then Arcane Eye, and sends the sensor up the path behind the waterfall.
GM Tektite |
We're playing high tier, right?
Gina casts her spell and begins to concentrate.
GM Tektite |
Gina Bateman |
"Looks like six mercenaries and three Red Mantis assassins are patrolling the waterfall ledge. If we are smart, we might be able to ambush the patrol. Going to scout further in."
Move the sensor to the airy cavern and enter.
GM Tektite |
Gina Bateman |
Gina mumbles to herself, "Why in the world does a bardic college need cages?" To the group: "Looks like I can get to the main hall, but all the doors are closed off, so I can't scout the entire place out. Main hall has a bunch of empty cages. Looks like there is some sort of puzzle to the main entrance, but lets not take it if we can help it."
"So, how good is everyone at sneaking around?"
Gina Bateman |
Obviously, the waterfall itself provides some cover to hide against. Is there some cover along the path up to the waterfall?
I'm also assuming that all the rooms I was able to scout were empty, right?
Hawthorne Candlewood |
High tier, yes.
Stealthing about isn't much of an issue for me, Perhaps we should address tactics, and a contingency plan if we're spotted?
GM Tektite |
Obviously, the waterfall itself provides some cover to hide against. Is there some cover along the path up to the waterfall?
I'm also assuming that all the rooms I was able to scout were empty, right?
Other than the six people in the room with metal cages, no.
Edit: No cover on the path. Just bare stone. Waterfall provides noise cover.
Gina Bateman |
"Well, how about this then. I'll use my arcane eye to see when they are about 30' from the edge of the waterfall. We put up our combat enchantments. Mr. Candlewood can then Dimension Door us right on top of them so Mr Noble, Mr K, and I can get a quick shot in."
"Our priority should be to kill the guys in red mantis clothing first, since they will likely be the ones after Torch. We can't let any of them escape. Try to keep the fight away from the edges; they'll undoubtedly try to push us off to split us up. If they jump off into the waterfall, to escape, Mr Noble has chasing duty, since he can swim and move quickly."
Will the noise of the waterfall interfere with spellcasting?
Mr. K |
Ack sorry for delay, Paizo forums were telling me no new posts all day.
"Nice job with the arcane eye."
Mr. K turns to Hraiken
"Have you known Torch for a long time, I've always wondered what his real name is?"
Mr. K will cast GMW on Savage's Unarmed Strike (+2) as well as Keen Edge on Hawthorne's Glaive.
8 Hours on the GMW and 80 minutes on Keen Edge
Savage Noble |
And if I could get a mage armor, that'd be awesome. I'll trade you my bracers! You all can just call me Noble too while you're at it.
Gina Bateman |
Gina's will have the following buffs:
Darkvision (110 min), Echolocation (110 min), Overland Flight (11 hours).
1 round before Gina gives the order to go in, She'll cast haste on the party.
GM Tektite |
Once everyone agrees on the plan of attack and is ready to Dimension Door, state your action. I'll go ahead and provide the map and you can place yourselves and state your surprise action.
G: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22

R: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
E: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Hawthorne Candlewood |
Ooh, keen edge! Thanks!
How close do we want to get? Hawthorne is a reach fighter, so ideally there should be someone (probably Noble) between him and the baddies since he won't be able to act in the surprise round after dim door.
Hawthorne will use his wand of longstrider just before we go in.
EDIT: Also, I do not have access to the maps.
Mr. K |
Buffs cast by Mr K.
Greater Magic Weapon - Savage (8 Hours)
Keen Edge - Hawthorne (80 Minutes)
Wand of False Life - Self HP: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 (3 Hours)
Wand of Mage Armor - Self (1 Hour)
Mirror Image Images: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 (8 Minutes)
Wand of Grease - Own Clothes (1 Minute)
Wand of Protection from Evil - Self (1 Minute)
Lesser Empower Rod in hand.
"I am ready."
Once we land Mr K will cast an Empowered Fireball on them
Damage: 8d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 1, 4, 1, 1, 4) = 23 *1.5 = 34 fire damage, Reflex DC 21 for half.
Before taking a 5st back away from the party.
Savage Noble |
Sure, I'll be inbetween Hawthorne and the bad guys then. And before we go in, I'll have Gina or Mr. K use my wand of shield to cast it into my ioun stone and I'll activate it.
Gina Bateman |
I'll also be in the front line in front of Hawthorne.
Gina's first action will be to partial charge the closest Red Mantis Assassin. I am flying in this attack.
CHARGE!: 1d20 + 17 + 2 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 17 + 2 + 1 - 3 = 23 Charge, Haste, Piranha Strike
Damage: 1d6 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 11 + 6 = 18
Hawthorne Candlewood |
Okay, I moved the tokens around a bit on the map to better reflect the formation in which we'll be dim door-ing. Please take a look and make sure it's okay with everyone.
If everyone's good, we'll consider us having made the 'port and the surprise round actions underway...?
GM Tektite |
Hawthorne speaks a few words and the team dimension doors onto the ledge, in the midst of the Red Mantis patrol.
The area behind the waterfall is suddenly bathed in a warm orange glow and a shock wave rolls over the party as Mr. K unleashes a fireball on the group of people.

Gina Bateman |
Gina will grow nine inch nails as a swift action in one hand, and then she will make a full attack, swinging with vicious speed at her opponent, taking a 5' step if necessary to execute it.

Damage for those within 10 feet: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10
Red Mantis #3 is unaffected.
GM Tektite |
Noble runs forward and makes a flying kick at the Red Mantis. The kick hit the assassin square in the nose and his neck snaps back with a sickening crunch. The assassin crumples to the ground, lifeless.
Mr. K unleashes a wall of acid along a line of men. All winch as their skin begins to burn.
Gina moves up and unleashes a furry of scimitar slices on the next Mantis, cutting down the man.
Noble, after Gina took down the last one, you are not within a five foot step of anyone. Do you want move forward, using the first roll, then use the successive rolls next turn?

GM Tektite |
Hawthorne fires off a quick succession of arrow at the man near Gina. Unfortunately, his arrows all miss narrowly, as he can't obtain a good view of his target.
The Red Mantis shouts something to the others and moves up to attack Noble with his sawtooth sabre, but Noble easily avoids the swing.

Gina rises up over a man and begins to attack the assassin. Her scimitars dancing toward the Mantis. The man next to to the assassin pushes the Mantis away, taking the sword strikes and going down to the ground.
