Kernithar Flott
Fort: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32

Aristu Medvyed
Aristu continues towards the camp. Looking down, he sees Kern engaged with an inky ghost and he weaves a beam of holy fire to shoot at it.
(1)Stride (60'); (2&3)Cast Searing Light at the inky ghost.
Ranged Spell Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
fire damage: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 4, 4) = 20
good damage (if undead or fiend): 5d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2, 2, 3) = 17
Mikhail Templeson
Mikhail calls upon the power of Abadar and a burst of positive energy shoots out in all directions.
I have this as a third level spell. I am spending all three actions on it. Each heightened level adds +1d8+8 to this. And with three actions it goes 30 ft in every direction which I believe allows me to hit Kern, Piotr and the creature. If the height makes it so I can not hit everyone, please let me know as that would change my action.
Positive Energy- Basic Fort DC 20: 3d8 + 24 ⇒ (5, 4, 6) + 24 = 39
GM Tarondor
You are in range. However, the creature is unharmed by the spell. It does have weakness to good damage, but not negative healing. It is in fact healed by this spell.
INITIATIVE
The Creature - Frightened 1 (DoD), Confused
Kernithar - 85/102 hp
Aristu (40' from the north end of the map)
Alister
Piotr - 40/80 hp, Stupefied 1
Mikhail
Kern, Alister, Piotr, go!
Kernithar Flott
As the searing light fades from view, Kern continues slashes at the creatures silhouette.
Elven Curved Blade vs Prey (1): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28Damage: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6
Elven Curved Blade vs Prey (2): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24Damage (Forceful): 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6
Elven Curved Blade vs Prey (3): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12Damage (Forceful): 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (6, 8) + 6 = 20
Mikhail Templeson
3 Acions do not, but heightening it gives you an additional +8 per +1 spell level from what I can tell in the SRD.. I cast it as a third level spell.
Aristu Medvyed
According to the spell description in the Core Rulebook, heightening the spell by +1 increases the healing by 1d8, and increases the bonus on the 2-action version by 8.
Mikhail Templeson
Hmmm. I see what you are saying. It seems odd that it loses the healing bonus, but it apparently does. I will leave it up to the GM then. My goal was to get Piotr as much healing as possible but if too much info was gained we can just reduce the healing to all by 24.
GM Tarondor
The Medvyed is right. Only the two-action form gains the bonus. So the healing should have been 15, not 39.
Kern slices furiously at the wispy assassin, but does it no harm, simply slicing through the mist.
INITIATIVE
The Creature - 12 damage, Frightened 1 (DoD), Confused
Kernithar - 61/102 hp
Aristu (40' from the north end of the map)
Alister
Piotr - 16/80 hp, Stupefied 1
Mikhail
Alister and Piotr, go!
Piotr Denisov
Piotr steps away from the creature before casting a spell to send a pair of missiles at it.
1 - Step
2,3 - Cast Magic Missile for two missiles, 2d4+2 force dmg
Magic Missile dmg: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9
Alister Medvyed
Alister follows the creature, keeping it frightened by the mere effect of his previous words. He motions towards it and a piece of nearby stone flies up to slam into the creature.
Telekinetic Projectile: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36
Bludgeoning Damage: 4d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 6) + 4 = 23
Actions:
1. Move
2/3. Telekinetic projectile
GM Tarondor
Piotr, since you are Stupefied, you need to make a flat check to cast a spell.
Piotr Flat check (DC 6): 1d20 ⇒ 17 Success.
Piotr's magic missiles strike the creature unerringly, but with minor effect, followed a moment later by a sharp stone hurled by Alister which hits with deadly accuracy and makes the creature scream!
Creature Flat check to end confusion (DC 11): 1d20 ⇒ 15 Success.
1. Step.
2. Strike.
3. Strike.
Claw v. Piotr, frightened: 1d20 + 21 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 21 - 1 = 222d6 + 5 + 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 5 + (3, 5) + 2 = 20 Slashing plus negative damage, plus mind-numbing touch.
Claw v. Piotr: 1d20 + 17 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 17 - 1 = 272d6 + 5 + 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 5 + (2, 2) + 2 = 16 Slashing plus negative damage, plus mind-numbing touch.
It regains its bearing and resumes its relentless and single-minded attack on Piotr, trying to tear out his entrails and it succeeds in a spectacularly messy fashion, spattering the stones with blood.
INITIATIVE
The Creature - 57 damage, Frightened 1 (DoD)
Kernithar - 61/102 hp
Aristu
Alister
Piotr - 0/80 hp, Stupefied 1, Prone, Dying 2
Mikhail
Everyone go. Piotr, give me two Fortitude checks (DC=27-1=26 (I was wrong about the DC before)) vs. Mind Numbing Touch and then a Recovery check.
Mikhail Templeson
Mikhail moves to reach Piotr and touches him with his gloves to heal him and tells Pitor, "Run!" He then touches him and calls upon Abadar to heal him further.
Gloves of Healing: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 5) + 7 = 18
Heal lvl 1: 1d8 ⇒ 2
One more healing spell.
Alister Medvyed
Alister moves closer to the creature, but this time the tattoos on his right arm flares to life. Electricity leaps out as he calls on Eristhea's imbued magic and it strikes the creature.
Electric Arc (Reflex DC26): 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 1) + 4 = 12
Actions:
1. Move closer to keep it Frightened.
2/3. Electric Arc on it.
GM Tarondor
Creature Reflex save: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30 Success.
As Mikhail invokes holy power to drag Piotr back from death's door, Alister blasts the thing with lightning. It dodges out the way, getting caught only in a minor lance of electricity at the outer edge of the bolt.
INITIATIVE
The Creature - 63 damage, Frightened 1 (DoD)
Kernithar - 61/102 hp
Aristu
Alister
Piotr - 20/80 hp, Stupefied 1, Prone, Wounded 1
Mikhail
Kern, Aristu, Piotr, go! (Still need those two Fort saves from Piotr).
Kernithar Flott
"Mikhail, can you grab it!?"
Kern shouts as he sends an icy blast at the creature before stepping forward.
"We can't let it kill Piotr, it will consume his soul."
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Damage: 4d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 2) + 3 = 11
Ray of Frost, Step
GM Tarondor
Piotr begins to slip the bonds of sanity as the horrid assassin's touch drains him of his conscious mind.
Kern's spell freezes the misty creature, causing frost to form within its cloudy body.
INITIATIVE
The Creature - 74 damage, Frightened 1 (DoD)
Kernithar - 61/102 hp
Aristu
Alister
Piotr - 20/80 hp, Stupefied 3, Prone, Wounded 1
Mikhail
Aristu and Piotr, go!
Piotr, any spellcasting will require a DC 8 flat check to succeed.
Aristu Medvyed
Aristu draws more energy from his source and weaves a spell to warp time near the creature. Then he pulls a wand from his belt.
(1&2)Cast Slow at the creature; (3)Draw Heightened Wand of Manifold Missiles.
Fortitude save, DC=26
Piotr Denisov
Piotr falls back upon instinct, stumbling back before trying to summon a creature to fight for him.
Flat check: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Somehow, Piotr manages to cast a spell to protect himself.
1 - Step
2,3 - Cast Mage Armor
GM Tarondor
Piotr runs, but has to run by the terrain of the path. The creature, even slowed, simply flies down the slope directly towards him. The creature, all horrid mist and dead white arms, slashes at him with fury and precision. The blows splash the ground with blood, but Piotr remains on his feet!
Mikhail is too far away to get the AoO.
Claw w/Frightened: 1d20 + 21 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 21 - 1 = 312d6 + 5 + 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5) + 5 + (1, 1) + 2 = 17
INITIATIVE
The Creature - 74 damage, Frightened 1 (DoD)
Kernithar - 61/102 hp
Aristu
Alister
Piotr - 3/80 hp, Stupefied 3, Wounded 1
Mikhail
Another Fortitude save, Piotr!
Then, everyone go!
Mikhail Templeson
Mikhail moves forward and then sends Abadar's power once more to save Piotr and yells, "Run towards Aristu!"
Stride, Healx2.
Lvl 2 Heal: 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (5, 1) + 16 = 22
From watching Kern attack it, does it appear this thing is immune to weapon attacks?
Kernithar Flott
Kern shoots another ray of frost, then shouts to Mikhail.
"Mikhail, use Abadar's powers on your blade!"
RoF, Warden's Boon to Mikhail (reduced map)
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Damage: 4d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1, 3, 2) + 3 = 12
Mikhail Templeson
Piotr might want to not go quite that far. If you aim more for the NE part of the path the creature will probably need two actions to move to you instead of one.
Aristu Medvyed
Aristu uses the wand to fire a volley of white bolts of force at the creature.
(1&2&3)Cast Magic Missile at the creature, using the Heightened Wand of Manifold Missiles
Force damage: 6d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 3, 2, 2) + 6 = 21
GM Tarondor
Between the, Mikhail and Aristu blast the accursed assassin, so that it wails and keens its hatred and hunger and slowly fades away on the wind.
COMBAT OVER
Don't bother rolling healing, but it will be days before Piotr is his old self. Until then, he is forgetful and his speech is full of odd pauses and meandering.
Mikhail Templeson
Mikhail blinks and looks around, "Piotr, you wouldn't happen to have done something recently to really upset another wizard? Or perhaps spent time with the wrong woman...?"
Mikhail Templeson
"We may need to seek magical information on why this attack occurred. Perhaps it was not Piotr so much as the position he holds as treasurer. Enough money can cause people to take drastic actions." Mikhail suggests.
Kernithar Flott
"It could be anyone with a grudge against Piotr or the kingdom, but one thing is certain, they're powerful. We elves call them 'soul eaters'. They don't just kill, they consume the very soul of their target."
Kern looks over where there might be any remains of the creature.
"Wish it were flesh and blood, then we could at least search it for evidence."
Mikhail Templeson
"That's not ominous at all. Let me patch you up and then we should make our way back to Stagfell and see if we can find anything out about who might be after Piotr." Mikhail says.
Kernithar Flott
"I take it a large black bird doesn't mean anything for you all?"
Mikhail Templeson
"It might be an omen, it might be a familiar, it might be something that has changed its form, but for now it is gone." Mikhail says.
