Okay, so this combat is extremely complicated. First warning is that I get to break rules in this and ignore long established mechanics as part of the fight. Pay attention to the descriptions of the actions of the creatures to get clues to how they're doing what they are.
Second, this fight is nearly impossible to win with pure brute force, though you're going to need that, too. The mindscapes are important, so I'm going to explain them all in this post and you may use it as a reference for the rest of the combat.
If you stand next to a mindscape you may interact with it as a free action. Upon doing so you'll see what's happening inside and have the opportunity to make some checks to try and shake the associated sage out of it. By spending a full round action you may attempt 3 skill checks that are listed in the mindscape, you may do the same one 3 times or switch them up as you desire. You need to get 2 successes to deal with the mindscape. You all have a +2 bonus when making these checks due to successes during the ritual and I will be adding in some other bonuses based on the audits I did at the start. I can also give bonuses out for good RP per the scenario, and these checks have high DCs so RP it up. =D It's more fun anyways. Also, a half-way decent argument for a not-listed skill and decent RP and I'll let you use alternative skills as well.
For the sake of efficiency I am going to spoiler each mindscape here, once any of you have interacted with a mindscape the entire party is free to read the spoiler.
A weary and worn Amenopheus sits alone in a room before a pile of books and scrolls. The Ruby Prince Khemet III enters, sick and frail. Amenopheus grasps at scroll after scroll, but each crumbles to dust at his touch. Khemet III turns away in disgust. Grandmaster Torch enters and presents two sage jewels, one deep green and the other brilliant yellow. Amenopheus eagerly trades everything he has for them, only to watch the jewels fracture in his hands. Tahonikepsu enters, knocks Amenopheus to the floor, and takes his chair. He lies crumpled on the ground, then the scene flickers and repeats.
DC 33 Diplomacy, Knowledge (history or nobility), or Perform (comedy or oratory) checks.
Dhiara meditates within a mountain monastery. A young girl pleads for her help as a minotaur gores the child to death. Then the minotaur ages and turns to dust. A king beseeches Dhiara’s assistance as hobgoblins enslave his people. Then knights slay the hobgoblins, and orcs fell the knights in turn, all falling into dust. The world continues in this fashion, the cycle unending.
DC 33 combat maneuver checks or Knowledge (history or religion) or Perform (oratory) checks.
In place of a combat maneuver or skill check, a PC can deal 20 points of damage with an attack or spell to one of the monsters in her visions to demonstrate that it is possible to make a difference and break Tahari’s control.
A harried warrior bearing an illuminated wayfinder runs across a chasm alongside a woman in leather armor, and an emerald spectre trails behind them. The warrior urges the other Pathfinder toward the entrance just before the apparition mutters a terrible curse that engulfs him in flames. A flask of holy water strikes the spectre from behind as the woman returns and tries to carry the man to safety, shoving him toward the entrance as the ghost’s rage collapses part of the ceiling onto her. The man staggers outside into a sandstorm, terribly burned and alone. He pulls out a barely intact scroll and reads the incantation, struggling to speak, then forces out a message for the spell to carry: “It’s Ven. Everyone’s dead. I’m just west of the site. Send an extraction and recovery team. Please hurry.” He waits in the desert, staring down at his wayfinder. No response comes.

The explorer Mnesoset, an athletic Garundi woman who keeps her hair in braids, and her outfit includes accessories and garments from a wide range of cultures waves to a diverse crowd of humans, insect people, dwarves, and more, who cheer and wish her luck as she begins entering a mountainside ruin. Within she finds a hall inhabited by row after row of towering statues; as she inspects them, the sound of her friends being slaughtered echoes from outside. Mnesoset draws out an ivory rod and commands the statues to follow her orders. At first they follow her commands, but then one grabs her and throws her against a wall. Other statues stand in front of the entrance, keeping her from leaving yet not stopping the stream of blood that trickles down from the ruin’s entrance. All the while, a horned fiend watches from the shadows, moving its hands as if controlling marionettes.
DC 33 Knowledge (arcana or planes), Perception, or Use Magic Device checks
The dwarf Padrym stands in a palace at the heart of Osirion’s power in the Age of Destiny, and he watches a young girl—Aryana Tahari—walk past with a few spectral figures trailing in her wake. She looks to him for advice, but he ignores her. He sees her later as a young woman, an adult, and then in middle-age, her entourage of spirits growing each time. At each point he sees a chance to speak or act as the ghosts implore him to intervene, but each time he remains silent.
DC 33 Diplomacy, Knowledge (history or religion), or Perform (oratory) checks
A mortal Sinuhotep traverses a catacomb with a conjured djinni ally who saves him from numerous perils. However, when faced with the choice of aiding the djinni or escaping with an ancient jar, he flees as a faintly visible spirit of Aryana Tahari urges him on. Later, in a ritual chamber, he cuts the living heart out of a sphinx and looks up to see Tahari smiling at him. The world shifts to a cavernous chamber where he drinks from a poisonous chalice and collapses as Tahari cradles his head.

Voros rapidly drinks an extract and, as his mind seems enhanced, he heads hastily towards the closest jewel, Dhiara's one.
Voros drinks an extract of Channel Vigor, targeting his mind.
Voros joins Dhiara and stands on the sage's side, placing a hand over her shoulder. "Dhiara, these events seem to torment you on the inside. However, you fail to remember that you were not alone in these dark times. You lead the knights to destroy those hobgoblins but were it not for the power granted by the boon of your meditation and inner strength, this would not have succeeded. You..."
But at the same time, the orcs rush once again, covering Voros' voice and making him loose his concentration.

Voros, your words seem to catch some of Dhiara's attention and she turns to look in your direction, beginning to listen but not yet entirely focused.
Meanwhile, Qilfobber laments over his ineffectiveness in helping the Sapphire sage before taking out his anger on the back of the armored horror. A burst of sheer arcane force rockets from his fingertips towards the monstrosity and the impact sends it stumbling a step foward into the path of Roland's arrows.
One of the archer's shots dings harmlessly off of full plate, but the other 3 find nicks in the joints and dig deeply, their magical power pushing past it's oddly tough skin. It cries out in pain from both attacks, but inside that agony there's a faint sound of relief.
The ghost Tahari has been observing all of your actions to this point, and finally chooses to respond. Several things seem to happen near instantaneously; first being the amethyst light around her head glowing more brightly as she casts a spell with no obvious actions to complete it. When the spell finishes with a wave of her hand a sudden cloud of yellowish-green vapor descends on the group with no regard for the sages or her ally. The gas begins to sear into every living thing it touches as it saps away at each of you.
Then she flicks her wrist towards the space between Voros and Roland and the air between them bursts alight with a cloud of golden dust. Not even waiting for a response she whips around to where Liam is hiding, her hateful eyes narrowing at him. The Onyx light flickers brightly for an instant and a ball of fire appears beneath the false priest's feet. "Submit to me and this will be far less painful. You have no hope." Finally, the diamond light flashes and she appears to be healthier, more whole then when she first manifested.

Tahonikepsu's puppeted body turns her massive head to the center of the room and she unleashes a cone of electricity across much of the collected party, including the trapped skeleton that the attack simply washes over harmlessly. Book shelves, papers, and a table all burst aflame from the discharge and one of the sages is engulfed by the blast with the party. Liam's quick feet dance around the flames, and he shows a surprising amount dexterity for a priest as he jumps to a safer position. The distraction of flames trying to burn away at him causes the power of his nullifying magic to be somewhat... lacking, and while it collides with the cloudkill, the sickening gas still sits heavily over his comrades.
Roland, despite his blindness, gets the sudden sense of something large beside him. A form materializes beside the archer, and moves with deadly grace as it raises a clawed hand. A of wave of necrotic energy ripples forth that leaves the party drained of energy. This brutal, thickly furred humanoid figure’s head is that of a lioness with dead black eyes.
Voros, your words finally seem to reach Dhiara and she wakes from her meditation. Her eyes linger on the scenes playing before you two, then she turns her attention on you. The scene shimmers and fades around you and you find yourself admidst utter chaos of gases, glitter, and monsters.

Warm breath and a bit of drool on Roland's next causes him to freeze in concern. That certainly doesn't smell like any of his allies.
Qilfobber reaches into the mind of Tahonikepsu and attempts to guide her out of her confusion. He has some quick success immediately, guiding her to complete her work despite the wailing children about her. It seems as though she begins to lose interest in his aid, seeing him as just another delicate child, until the flickering light of the library shines off his scales and catches her eye. And then that eye becomes more certain and hard. "We aren't suppose to be here, my friend. Thank you for making me realize that." Then the image snaps and Qilfobber finds himself back in the ritual room.
Tahonikepsu suddenly comes alive, releasing a mighty and angry roar before turning her attention on Tahari and her servants. The diamond light above Tahari's head winks out of existence at the same moment.
Dhiara takes this as her queue and dashes towards the cat creature. She slips up next to Roland and lashes out with an iron fist. "Archer, Duck!" Her fist slams into the beast and it's head snaps back, leaving it stunned even as it manages to take a bite out of Dhiara. She grunts but says no more of wound. "You're clear, now move!"
Tahari's cloud continues to drift to the north, eating away at everything it finds while the ghostly woman's face slowly contorts with rage and frustration. "I told you to surrender. You are displeasing me." She absently waves her hand as the Amethyst brightens over head, directing the ball of fire beneath Liam's feet once again, and then points her finger at the center of the room. A blasting furnace of super-heated wind slams down amidst the combat, burning everyone and trying to drag them to the floor.
The oppressive heat slides off the skeleton as many of Tahari's spells have been, but the stunned cat seems to whither under the effects of the acidic fog. A number of the sages are wounded by the gas, and all caught in the burning heat are wounded except for Dhiara who manages to use the cat monster for cover.
1d20 + 21 ⇒ (14) + 21 = 35
1d4 ⇒ 4
4d6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 6) + 12 = 33
3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6) = 18
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Brutus, Voros, and Roland take 4 con damage, DC 23 to save for half.
Liam I need another DC 20 reflex save vs 18 damage and daze. Brutus, Qilfobber, Voros, Roland I need a DC 24 Fort save vs 33 fire damage. If you fail you fall prone. If you take any damage from this you are fatigued (pass or fail your save), if you are already fatigued you become exhausted.
The Green pattern is where this new spell is currently at and it's persisting as well.
Combat Round 1

Bolded characters may act! Okay, I think I got everything!

I realized I missed a couple of things while getting ready for work. Small update. The cat monster took some damage from Dhiara, and I corrected what round of combat we are on. Also...
You notice both the sapphire and spinel light up when Tahari is struck by her own magic. A nimbus of mixed colors appears around her and deflects most of the blistering wind away from her ghostly form.
Combat Round 2

I asked a question above but I think it got missed:
What are the mechanics for using the rerolls mentioned as part of Dhiara's buffs? Does it take an action? Does she give each person 2 rerolls or 2 for the whole party?
Does Tahonikepsu offer any buffs to the party after being freed?

Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Liam moves away from the flaming sphere and tries to get rid of the cloud of death.
Dispel Magic: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Dispel: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

The answer is above, I just misunderstood all of what you were asking. Treat it as any other free reroll like your GMing reroll, etc. 2 uses split between all of you, no action to use I just need to know you’re doin it so I can track the 2 uses. Tahonikepsu doesn’t buff you, but a dragon looks like it’s about to beat the crap out of the thing you’re holding.
Liam are you using a personal reroll or one of Dhiara’s?

![]() |

Thanks. I apologize for not better explaining my question.
Well, I really want to make that first reflex save so I’ll blow my GM reroll on it (with 5 stars!). I'll save the Dhiara reroll for next time.
Reflex Reroll (grappled, sickened, Dhiara buff, GM stars): 1d20 + 12 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 12 - 2 - 2 + 1 + 5 = 28
Fort Save vs Damage/Prone (stance, sickened): 1d20 + 16 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 16 + 2 - 2 = 27
Fort vs Con Damage (stance, sickened): 1d20 + 16 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 16 + 2 - 2 = 28

For the fireball of fatigue, it's a fort save? Not a ref save?
Voros gasps as he sees the mighty magical assault on the party.
Ref save, sickened, fatigued, Dhiara vs DC 19: 1d20 + 20 - 2 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 20 - 2 - 1 + 1 = 29
Fort save, sickened, fatigued vs DC 23 (con dmg): 1d20 + 13 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 13 - 2 - 1 = 21
Fort save, sickened, fatigued vs DC 24 (fireball of fatigue): 1d20 + 13 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 13 - 2 - 1 = 24

Oh, I'm up.
One last question: Is that blast of heat a persistent effect like the poison or was it an instantaneous one-shot?

![]() |

I lied, one more question:
If Brutus were to use an action to drag his opponent around, is his movement just halved down to 20 feet or is it halved and then halved again due to being exhausted? I'm not sure if there's definitive rules on how movement impairing effects stack.

Roland nods as Dhiara rushes past.
You have my deepest zhanks, m'lady
As he is hit with a pair of blasts and falls prone and exhausted.
fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Would 'endurance' apply to any of the saves vs exhaustion etc? If so he may consider burning a reroll (his or hers if one exists) - otherwise...may be no point.
If the big hairy sounds like it is not moving (stunned?), he will stand and move 1/2 speed to the east (20').
Have not updated map, let me know if this works.
blind: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 vs Blind
The dicebot loves me...

Despite being badly wounded and sweating with exhaustion, Brutus tightens his grip on his trapped opponent.
Smash (smite, stance, sickened, exhaustion): 1d20 + 17 + 3 + 2 - 2 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 17 + 3 + 2 - 2 - 3 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 8 + 8 + 2 - 2 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 8 + 2 - 2 - 3 = 19
Not sure if that hits. Pinned AC is flatfooted -4. If it doesn't hit reduce the grapple checks below by 2.
While his opponent reels, Brutus drags the melee away from the swirling magical maelstrom engulfing the center of the room.
Grapple to move: 1d20 + 22 + 5 + 3 + 2 - 2 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 22 + 5 + 3 + 2 - 2 - 3 + 2 = 38
Grapple for Damage: 1d20 + 22 + 5 + 3 - 2 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 22 + 5 + 3 - 2 - 3 + 2 = 39
Damage: 1d8 + 8 + 8 - 2 - 3 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 8 - 2 - 3 = 15
Going to use a swift to activate the Deep Sky Explorer boon from Refugees of the Weary Sky to get resistance 10 vs acid for a minute.
Does getting 30 feet away from the center of the room end the sickening effect? If so, add 2 damage to that last roll.

Roland - There's no save against the fatigue/exhaustion portion. It's a nasty spell, and I've actually never seen it used before this scenario. I need to change that with one of my own characters.
Brutus - Correct, you don't feel sick at the moment, and neither does Roland. The dicebot does hate you Roland, so don't forget your rerolls. I don't want you stuck out of this whole fight because of a glitterdust =(.
Liam continues to slip away from the small ball of fire trying burn him to cinders and this time is able to spend a greater amount of his focus and magical strength in trying to undo the magic filling the room. When his incantation completes a sudden jolt of arcane power slams into the cloud and the vapor melts away as if caught in a firm breeze. The air around the room is suddenly easier to breath in.
Roland is battered to the floor by the oppressive, burning air and has to drag himself back to his feet. Despite being half-blind he heeds Dhiara's words and stumbles away from the large monster threatening him. He tries to clear his eyes of dust, but fails to work it free.
Brutus weathers the violent attacks in stride, hunching his shoulders down against gas, acid, and burning without ever buckling. He drags the skeletal knight out of the heated maelstrom, suddenly feeling the queasiness in his stomach abate. There he proceeds to use the strength of his grip and brute force to simply crush the tormented man. Despite the noise of the fighting he hears the sounds of crushing bone and steel.
A moment later the jaws of a dragon come dangerously close to Brutus's face as Tahonikepsu leans down and catches the skeleton's head between her teeth. The sounds of snapping grow louder and the skeleton looks into Brutus's eyes with hollowed out sockets. "Use my weapon, it can hurt her. Get my revenge. Thank you..." There's a sigh that cuts off suddenly as the skull is crushed entirely and the creature grows still. The light flail it was holding drops to the ground. Then the dragon follows Brutus's lead and gets out of the center of the room.
The large, hairy creature stands swaying in place, eyes crossed and drool starting to drip out of the corner of its mouth.
For the sake of figuring out dice rolls if one of you chooses to use it, the skeleton's weapon is now a +2 ghost touch holy light flail.

Qilfobber and Voros wisely choose to get out of the burning heat at the center of the room, avoiding the risk of further burns. The alchemist begins healing unnaturally, seared flesh regrowing at an impressive rate while he downs a refreshing extract to recover further restore himself. The sorcerer flings another blast of arcane power towards Tahari as he moves, but the ghost seems ready for his attack and nimbly slips around it.
Dhiara continues to try and keep the unknown cat creature at bay, striking it in the temple with a quick blow from her palm that leaves it reeling. She then follows the example of the others and escapes from the center of the room, placing herself where she can defend the disabled Roland. The still disabled Grandmaster Torch and Sinuhotep continue to be battered by Tahari's magic.
The undead caster herself is once again buffeted against her own spell by a magical nimbus produced from the sapphire and spinel lights around her head. She glides lazily over to Liam and reaches out with a transparent hand to press it against his chest. The amethyst light flares over her head, followed instantly by the emerald as a ripple of magic tears across Liam... to no result. Tahari gives a wordless snarl.
The big cat monster appears to be stunned again. Liam, technically I need you to roll 2 DC 29 Fort saves and take the lower. If you fail, nothing happens!

Brutus takes a few seconds to simply breathe, then downs a potion that helps him recover from the abuse he's been exposed to throughout the fight. The paladin looks refreshed, but is he ready to return to the fray?
Liam reaches out to touch Amenopheus, and his words reach out to the crumpled man. He looks up to stare into Liam's eyes, but there is still despair wracking his features and the mindscape persists. You partially succeeded, Liam, but you'll need another success to fully free him.
Tahonikepsu doesn't see a path for her to get past the furnace at the room's center and chooses to hold her ground. A draconic snout comes down to tap Brutus on top of his head and the paladin begins to blur.
Once again the large cat monster stands disoriented and unable to act. When it finally can it will likely be a horrifying and terrible threat, but for not it's just a decoration.
Since the cat is stunned Voros and Qilfobber can take their actions while we wait for Roland.
