I'm interested Spiderbeard. Cleric of some sort, but that would depend on the setting. Ustalav, Pharasma, Quadira, Sarenrae, River Kingdoms, Abadar or Erastil, Mendev, Iomedae or Ragathiel. Any ideas on the setting?

@Niles Wherever you want - I'll bring you guys together at game start. I expect all of the characters to begin in different locations so you're free to apply with whatever sounds fun. Thematically we're focusing on the northern Inner Sea region for the most part but I wouldn't disqualify a Qadiran or Mwangi or what have you.

@Tobius I'll read up on them but won't give a yes/no for now. For now all I need is the fluff.

Zoresk here is a character I created originally for a WotR game that fell through. He's a bit down on his luck and has a burning desire to free his homeland (Sarkoris) from the demon's blight. That said, his background could be altered to be basically anywhere. The biggest change would be that he's now keen to investigate the 'why' of his attack by the cultist's. His love for the nation of Sarkoris could also be transferred to any location you deem fit for adventure. His motivation would no longer be to free his nation, but to protect it from the dark forces that threaten it.

As far as mythic goes, he was built with the intent to eventually have 10 mythic levels and I enjoyed the idea of him playing up the trope of a heroic smith (taking max ranks in craft(weapons) and eventually craft magical arms/armor using the Master Craftsman feat). His weapon, the fauchard he found after being freed, would be the central item he worked on.

The crunch is together for a level 2 fighter, so it will need to be scaled back. Note that there are two extra feats that replace the standard traits (by GM fiat).

@RAU-286
Certainly. I imagine the two met at the University of Lepidstadt before the events of the campaign... depending on how long it's been since then, she'd be surprised to see her again, at least.

Here is GM Niles' character,

Nilan Milarne, Priest of Pharasma and Ustalavan

Background: Nilan is of Varisian stock but is Ustalav born and bred. He grew up in Caliphas and attended the Church of Pharasma's temple as a child before dedicating himself to her causes. He is very uneasy with the current Bishop Bavhulameta Ulametria and her message of Pharasmin Penitence, which stresses that physical pain and suffering adds to rewards in the next life. To Nilan this smacks of Kuthonian teachings, but he doesn't speak negatively about the Bishop for she has great power. Instead Nilan travels the roads like his forbears, assisting midwives and blessing the old who are close to meeting the Lady. His burning passion however is the destruction of the undead that plague the countryside in Ustalav.

Appearance: Nilan is a tall and slender Pharasmin, he walks with a cane because of his frail body. Reflavored the cane into a club for crunch's sake He has short black hair and shaves infrequently, giving him a rough appearance.

Q: What is your motivation?
A: As a Priest of Pharasma his goal is to destroy undead and limit their influence on the living. As well as assist in bringing new souls into life and insuring correct burial rites for those that follow Pharasma.

Q: What was the last thing you did before falling asleep last night?
A: Prayed to the Lady of Graves to watch over him. Then sent prayers regarding the souls to be judged.

Q: What is your (your character that is) goal in life?
A: To destroy undead and limit the influence of Orcus on Golarion. After that it would be to assist those close to death in understanding their role in the cosmos and how they will be judged by the Lady.

Q: What is your greatest fear?
A: To give someone false hope about the afterlife, to lead them into a belief that their mortal actions do not matter and they will not be judged by their beliefs and actions.

Homebrew is like buzzword here isn't it? 2 days and already a lot of interest.

For me, its more the GM than the Homebrew. Quality GM's are like gold on this forum.

I'm pleased to see this much interest considering how vague my application request was! Lots of strong applications which give me interesting ideas to work with, and strong players I'd want in my game. No matter what I'm going to have to exclude some characters I really like. Remember that I'll close things near the end of the day tomorrow.

The Emerald Duke submits me, Narciso Valdlin. He is still working on the crunch, but I am a sorceror of the blue dragon bloodline. I am a lawful neutral half elf... mostly because of my conflicting nature (when I use my power I slip into LE, when I haven't used it for a while I am closer to LG... so LN overall balance).

Here is my backstory:

Past Life:

Blue dragons are cunning, methodical, careful and manipulative. Unlike other “chromatic” dragons, blues enjoy power and plots, minions and plans, intrigue and subterfuge. Vaxolith the Bold was no exception to this motif. His ambition saw him take over parts of the regions that today are Galt, Cheliax and Andoran, ruling as a shadow behind various warlords and petty tyrants. Still, he wanted more. He wanted to rule over a mighty empire the likes of which had not been seen since mighty Osirion or even Thassilon before it.
That said, Aroden would never allow such an evil empire to stand. Even with his relatively minor holding, Vax was beginning to be challenged by Taldor’s budding expansion into his southeastern borders. Vax knew it would not be much longer before his budding empire crumbled, he was exposed, hunted, and killed. Blues know when to retreat, and many in his shoes would have gone into exile, licked their wounds and strove to scheme another day. But not Vaxolith. Not the Bold Blue.
Oh no... Vax began working on a spell that would carry his soul forward into time. The host would not be able to be his usual draconic self, true... but it would be centuries in the future. The perfect time for his resurgence. He cast upon himself a resurrection curse... one that would allow his soul to remain dormant inside that of his slayer’s for four generations, and possess the body of the fifth! Oh yes, he would be back. And using his new body he would then forge the truly evil empire of his dreams long after Taldor had fallen under its own bloating weight. The curse was ready, now all he had to do was be slain by someone of a long-lived race.
Elves. Manipulating them into seeking his head was easy. A deliberate location drop here, a marauding band of orcs there, a few cameo appearances, and suddenly he had his own pet elven hero seeking his head. Heroes... deliciously predictable. It only took few months, but eventually the elf confronted him. Vax put up a decent show of a fight... after all, wouldn’t want the poor elf to wonder about it being too easy... but in the end he went down for the count. Just as planned. Now to lay dormant.
For four generations he slept as a barely noticeable portion of his host’s consciousness. He watched as Taldor was supplanted by Cheliax... oh the irony there... as the seat of Aroden’s grand religion. He relished and reveled at the news of Aroden’s death, though the chaos that followed made him wish he was in full control of a host... it just begged to be filled by his ambition and order.
Then something happened that Vax did not anticipate. After four generations of his host finding other elves to fall “in love” with and breed the next generation, his host did something unexpected. He married a human woman, against all objections from his parents (as well as the subtle attempts to lead him away from her that Vax could still exude).
Of all the times for his plan to go awry, this was the worst. Not only was he now cheated of being born into a powerful respected elven family (given the son was disowned) but he was even cheated of being fully in control of his new body... the spell had been tailored to allow his control of a full elven body, not a mixed blooded one. This is how Narciso Valdlin came to be a new mind, not just Vaxolith the “Elf”.

Early Childhood:

Born of his elven father and human mother, Narciso was raised as the only child of either in a sleepy little farmstead in the River Kingdoms. His parents loved each other and loved him dearly, yet despite this something was always... off about him.
He complained of strange nightmares, vivid dreams, and an unquenchable fury at times towards his parents. He could not explain these things, and they were honestly scarring on his fragile young mind. His parents tried helping him through it but no matter who they saw or what they did the feelings and nightmares continued.

Adolescence:

When Narciso was twelve things became worse than ever before. On his twelfth birthday his latent powers began to manifest themselves. With them came certain knowledge: the dreams were not just dreams, but memories. Memories from a past life, linked to the power he now possessed. And linked to the fury and anger that coursed through him like a river of lava, boiling just beneath his consciousness.
Afraid that he might lose control of his power and kill his parents without realizing it, Narciso fled his home and wandered. He managed to learn to control his magic under the watchful eyes of a few clerics of Nethys.

Adulthood Until Now:

Narciso has spent his adult life trying to make sense of his power, his past life, and his place in the world. Two things he has learned. First, whatever gives him his power (be it past life or god) it is evil. The more he taps into it, the more power he uses, the more evil his thoughts and desires become. While this isn’t always a bad thing (the evil isn’t chaotic, in fact it is often ordered towards a lawful end) it is a tad distressing, especially while dealing with people like paladins. After some focusing the urges and desires and... schemes... subside, but until then he almost becomes a second person.
The second thing he has learned is that using his powers to solve the problems of others can be rewarding in more ways than one. It pays the bills, keeps food in his stomach, and makes him feel like he isn’t as cursed as he did as a child.

Thank you for your consideration!

Dark Archive

Sohar was made for a demonic themed campaign, but sounds like he might work here. There are some details to revise, but I'd like to throw my hat into the ring, backstory included. I hope you like it.

If you feel up to it, you could do what some other DMs have been doing recently and open up two 'tables', so you can get all your favourites in. ^^

I'd still love to get in on this, especially considering you've got three applicants who worship Pharasma.

Go Grey Team! XD

@RAU - I'll consider it. It doubles my writing load for the section of the game where the PC backstories become a big deal, but hey, that'd be way in the future anyways. Right? *sob*

And I have noticed that Pharasma seems super-popular this round. Welcome change from Desna I suppose! Can't swing a cat on these forums without hitting a Desna worshipper.

I always liked Irina and her Carrion Crown game was cut short before it started. If accepted I would fiddle on the fringes but I think her core concepts/backgrounds/etc are worth throwing into the pool. Thanks for the consideration.

I'll go for a pure witch, sowing doubt in the hearts of the enemies, planning and scheming using ancient knowledge. I'll rewrite the background a bit later today. He burned the family house to the ground, killing his family trapped therein. All while under the influence of his mentor.

While he himself influences others to his own ends, Ragnar is being influenced by his mentor in just the same way. All the while he thinks, he is in charge of his own life and magic.

I still have this character I would like to play, I'd have to retool a few things for the campaign.

Like the first trait which is a campaign trait as well as Ability score which I don't think were based on 20 point buy. Also the backstory would have to have a few slight alterations to suit the campaign.

Oh and the Dojo's Equipment is a reskin of the rich parents trait, to suit my character's story (of having grown up in a Dojo and being given my own custom sword upon completing my training), would that be okay with you?

Well, getting around is kinda what they do. :)

Thanks for the interest thus far. I'll close things up when I'm home from work around 6pm EST.

You'd prefer a ring of Calistrites or Ugathoans? ;)

At least it's not a team of Rovagug worshippers...

Is it too late to submit an application?

I really want to work on a character with either Arcanist or Bloodrager ACG classes...

@Tsiron - Submit away. All I want right now are character concepts (backstory/personality/etc). Crunch can come if selected. That said you only have until the end of the day.

Updated my profile a tad, now it has physical description and some crunch factors... for personality (realized I didn't say much on it) I am thinking he is akin to Kenshin Himura (from the anime Rurouni Kenshin) in the way that he is carefree and kind while in most social situations, almost refusing to use his skills until he has to... but once he uses them he becomes deadly, serious, and frightning. I hope that helps.

Ooh... the suspense is killing me...

bum bum BUUMM! Suspense.

Yes I'd like to also apply if there is still some open spot. I have a few concepts from the strange to the more cliche but well-loved.

Edit: Apologies to late entrants - recruitment is now closed and selections have been made for the games.

Thank you everyone, I'm tremendously flattered for the interest and hope I can keep up my end of the deal. I've made the decision to go with two groups so I can play around with all the fun ideas presented here.

Group 1
"Fingers" Mitchell
Zoresk
Nilan Mirlame
Narciso Valdlin
Koriko Honokam
Irinia Kayzeld

Group 2
Hector Quigley
Juid Ian Deguis
Ragner Djorinson
RAU-286 (pending some agreed-upon changes)
Crystal Delphi
Czein

How I made my selections:

- Does the character and backstory capture my imagination?
- Is the player enthusiastic, and does post history show good rp, reliability, and low drama?
- Does the character fit with the others chosen?

If you were not chosen my condolences. Some very strong apps didn't make it in and such is the way of things.

Everyone who was selected will receive a PM. I may have suggestions about changes or enhancements to the backstory, or to your character sheet itself. This game is not starting for a few weeks yet so there's a lot of time to fiddle. :)

Everyone in group one can head on over to the discussion page to say hi. I'm having some issues creating my group two campaign. So please stand by.

Some thoughts:

1. It looks the group one Disco thread is not actually up and running?

2. Can you boot up the gameplay thread and let us put a dot post in it? My experience is its the Gameplay thread that moves the campaign to the "campaign tab" and it is very helpful to track things from there...well at least for me and I can appreciate if I get vetoes on that front.

3. Thanks for the invitation. Congrats to the rest who made it in.

Campaign and discussion threads should be working now.

Grand Lodge

Good luck to all those that have been chosen... :)
