Silas sheaths his sword, useless at range like this, and draws his bow. "This is your last chance, demon," he says to Dakang, nocking an arrow. "Surrender or go back to the nine hells you came from."

![]() |

can I aid his ranged attack in some way?
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

You can take one step forward to threaten. Then you can either attack from the balcony or aid someone else's melee attack, but since you're the only one with reach, that's sort of moot. You can also try to aid an intimidate, if that's what Silas is attempting?

![]() |

Well I would, but isn't that a standard action? Sheathing my sword and drawing my bow is all I can do in a round.

![]() |

Oh! He's still within reach from the balcony! I misunderstood.
Arion steps forward and drives his longspear at Dakang yet again. You will corrupt this place and these people no longer, foul one!

Dario moves out of the room through the corridor and around. He shouts to the bodyguards as he passes. "Come and see the truth about Dakang if you still believe his lies!"

Quint reloads his pistol as quickly as he can as he keeps an eye out for the demon-headed priest.
Reload with normal bullets and powder.

As Dario moves out of the room, he sees the aasimar guards' lifeless forms collapsed in bloody heaps in the hallway. Surely the dretch was here while you talked to Dakang.

Soran nocks a barbed arrow this time, a length of silk rope attached to it.
I'll be using these for the rest of the fight. On a critical hit, they cause the target be grappled. Hopefully I can crit soon, and hopefully that makes him fall from the ceiling.
Gah, I can't pierce his hide. I'm going to try to bring him down!
Attack, Point Blank Shot, Deadly Aim, Studied Target: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Benefit(s) When a barbed arrow is attached to a length of silk rope and fired from a bow, the arrow's range increment is reduced to 30 feet, but it gains the grapple special weapon quality.
Grapple Weapon Ability: On a successful critical hit with a weapon of this type, you can grapple the target of the attack. The wielder can then attempt a combat maneuver check to grapple his opponent as a free action. This grapple attempt does not provoke an attack of opportunity from the creature you are attempting to grapple if that creature is not threatening you. While you grapple the target with a grappling weapon, you can only move or damage the creature on your turn. You are still considered grappled, though you do not have to be adjacent to the creature to continue the grapple. If you move far enough away to be out of the weapon’s reach, you end the grapple with that action. Source: Ultimate Combat.

Arion moves in to take another swing. He connects but Dakang still fights on.
Dario runs out of the room followed by Golthune who laments over the fallen guards.
Quint meanwhile reloads as he keeps his eyes peeled.
Silas and Soran run out to try to stop Dakang.
Dakang steps once more away from Arion and the balcony so he can no longer be reached. There, he casts another spell and another wave of negative energy washes over everyone in the room (Dario, Arion, Silas, Soran).

Soran has taken 9 damage so far. 3 HP left, so looking kind of dire. I'll keep trying the barbed arrows, maybe if I can get him grappled you guys can down him easier. I knew should have brought some raining arrows. Ugh.
Soren grits his teeth as the energy washes over him, and fumbles at trying to nock another arrow.
This is going badly! We need to do something!

Dario heals himself as Arion looks for an opening.
Quint and Silas both fire their ranged weapons at Dakang, but both miss, some by the tiniest of margins.

so I'm up again? Can my action from last round be to grab the rope attached to the barbed arrow and try to yank Dakang down?
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

Yes, you are up again. Moves quicker with just one baddy. However, if I am reading it correctly, it is only grappled by the arrow on a crit. Elsewise it'd pretty much just take the arrow out of the foe. Unless someone has a rules clarification on that?
Soran, go ahead and roll a d100 for confusion to see what ya do this round.

![]() |

I copy pasted everything on barbed arrows in that post. It's kind of... lacking in the specifics of how they work. They only grapple on a crit, but it doesn't say what happens to the rope, how long it is, or anything.

Silas' arrow is deflected at the final moment by a spiritual shield!
Arion hurls a dagger at Dakang, narrowly missing him! Yes, still under the effects of the spell. Minutes per level spells suck...
Dario calls on some uncanny luck which, sadly, does not seem to help any.
Quint is a little more successful with his shots, though the wounds do not seem to be overly grievous as he would have hoped.
Dakang regards you and makes a noise, like a low rumble. You almost feel that he is laughing at you. He grabs a holy symbol from around his neck and you can see a wave of negative energy flowing out from him! Preparing yourself against a channel, you are perhaps surprised to not feel it coming. Dakang, however, seems a little less injured...

Soran looks to see if he can tell where Arion's long spear is, and then nocks and fires another barbed arrow. as the arrow flies, he racks his brain, trying to think of anything he could possibly know about whatever Dakang is, from all of his experience and time spent in the wild.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
It seems like arrows are barely affecting him, and I'm betting if I can get that long spear, or someone away least, we can deal a little bit more damage to him. Thoughts?
I made an acrobatics check to fire at him because I'm not sure if I have to be on the edge/railing of the balcony to fire at him or not since he's on the ground now. Ignore it if I don't. The knowledge check is to see if he knows of any weaknesses Dakang has or not. Considering he's a demon, that's probably a fruitless endeavor.

Quint hops off the balcony, landing awkwardly, but on his feet.
Silas also hops down, taking 1d6 ⇒ 4 non-lethal damage in the fall. As he lands, he strikes at Dakang and deals a vicious blow!
Dario, you are staggered and can only do one action. Withdrawing the wand is a move unless you have a means to grab it faster?
Dario, meanwhile, grabs his wand, but is unable to use it right now. He does, however, take the moment to identify Dakang. Of course! How could he not remember?! He's a vermlek, a demon which inhabits the body of its victime, using it as a suit of armour. It is vulnerable to cold iron or goodly aligned weapons and immune to electricity and poison. It takes little damage from acid, cold, and fire, and many spells will bounce right off of him.
Game terms: DR/cold iron or good; Immune electricity, poison; Resist acid, cold, fire; SR
Soran, you can fire at him with ease by moving forward one square. No balance check needed.
Soran fires another arrow, this time dealing some damage!
With a baleful look at Silas, Dakang seems to shrivel down as the flesh sloughs off his demonic form.
2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 6) + 3 = 15
He bites at Silas with his new form unable to use the quarterstaff.
