"What, you know my name? But --?" The bard gives a nervous chuckle. "I guess my fame is better traveled than I realized", he comments with a bead of cold sweat forming on his forehead.
While Riley Kels appears a little flustered and intimidated, Bolgart Caggan has an aggressive demeanor. "There was ten customers here, well within the law!" he rumbles in a threatening manner. "You ain't got no right to do anything to me!"
Nysene Ratarion |
Sense Motive (DC 10): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Nysene narrows her eyes but does not flinch as Caggan gets right up in her face. "You don't scare me, Mister Caggan. You weren't breaking any laws tonight but that isn't why we're here. We're here because word has it you broke the decree about public gatherings just the other day."
"And I'll be honest - you'd do well to come along without kicking up a fuss. We've got the weight of the law on our side and it'll go a lot easier for everyone if you cooperate."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Wasn't sure whether to make it a Diplomacy or Intimidate check but I doubt it makes much difference either way :P
Shiloh Darrow |
sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Sighing before chiming in, "It really is in everyone's best interest if you do not make a huge fight out of this. You know the law and you know that you have to follow it."
Intimidate aid other: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
I want his hat! All those feathers!
Aevelyn BlackHair |
"So be it." Aevelyn replies, her eyes gleaming in anger. "You will regret your actions today!" She then motions to her fellow deputies. "Subdue him."
Once Aevelyn's action occurs she will use Corrupting Touch upon him. Melee Touch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 He will be Shaken for 2 rounds.
Breezelee "Breeze" Krolmnite |
Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Breeze emits a low growl as she pulls the masterwork shortsword she was gifted not very long ago. "Hope you've got a fresh pot of chili in the back. After I knock you out, you're wearing it for the rest of the night!"
Shiloh Darrow |
Init: 1d20 ⇒ 5 I am right there with you Nysene
Breezelee "Breeze" Krolmnite |
Breeze charges the flat footed man, swinging her shortsword. She tries to use the flat of it to wound but not kill.
Charging attack to do nonlethal against flat footed 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 - 4 = 16
Nonlethal Damage 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5 plus
1d6 ⇒ 4 sneak attack damage
She grins at seeing her blade strike true. "I've wanted to do that for a long time," she adds wickedly.
Samy |
"You little punk!" Caggan growls as Breeze's shortsword hits him, but despite the good hit, it fazes him surprisingly little. [b]"Snot-nosed kitten!" He swings his massive arm in an arc, trying to backhand Breeze.
Caggan unarmed strike vs Breeze: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Upon the battle beginning, the two barmaids join in to support their employer. One of them picks up a warhammer from the wall and moves to the square next to Caggan's, offering it to the bar owner. That takes up that barmaid's whole round. The other one moves up to Caggan's other side, so that they flank him on left and right, and swings her serving tray at Breeze.
Barmaid serving tray vs Breeze: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Aevelyn's corrupting touch misses.
Nysene, Shiloh and Breeze to go.
Not planning to make a battlemat unless you guys specifically request one.
Shiloh Darrow |
Glaring at Caggan, "You fool!"
Muttering under her breath and the air around her briefly pulses with magic. That done she grabs her longspear.
Grabbing weapon and casting mage armor. I have to go to work soon so if need be bot Shiloh.

The bard begins to sing.
Woe is the town of Longacre
whose troubles are beyond count
I wish I could make things better
but I can scarcely count
so I can't help either
I'm just a bard not a fighter
if I fought in a fight, I would be, um, lighter
than a feather or something
...umm...something something...like a bird's wing
broken in a tussle
like a lady's tassle
no wait that didn't sound right
Nysene Ratarion |
"Bolgart Caggan, you were given your chance to come peacefully!" Nysene bellows as she steps up to the man and swings her fist in a mighty punch.
Attack (IUS; Challenge, Power Attack): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage (Non-Lethal): 1d3 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Nysene activates Challenge as a swift action against Caggan, then steps up for the swing. Also, her specific order may or may not come into play here: An order of the Ennead Star cavalier gains bonuses when he challenges a creature of chaotic alignment with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher or one that the cavalier has witnessed committing a crime against local laws within the past hour. Against such a targets of his challenge, he receives a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls. He also gains this bonus on Intimidate checks to demoralize such targets. This bonus increases by 1 for every 4 class levels that the cavalier has.
Breezelee "Breeze" Krolmnite |
If possible Breeze will take a 5' step and get flanking with Nysene. She again swings her shortsword at the man. She wanted to chop his head off, but that was against her orders.
Flanking attack to do nonlethal 1d20 + 2 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 4 - 4 = 20
Nonlethal Damage 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 plus
1d6 ⇒ 2 sneak attack, if applicable.
Shiloh Darrow |
More than pleased with the weapon selection now since she can keep more of a distance. But lengthily weapon is cumbersome and her attempt easily misses. I will have to bother Nysene
mwk long spear: 1d20 ⇒ 9 I am always so helpful ;)
Samy |
Flanking cannot be easily achieved on Caggan, because both of his sides are taken by the two barmaids to prevent just that occurrence. Something like this:
MCM
BNA
S
M = maids, all others are your initials
Despite not getting the flanking bonus, Breeze still hits and does 1 damage, but does not get the sneak attack damage due to lack of flanking.
Shiloh, alas, misses. Nysene hits! Caggan has received 18hp damage, 9 from Breeze and Nysene each, but amazingly, he is still up and fighting, though he is starting to stumble a little from the blows inflicted upon him.
During the staff's turn, Riley Kels continues to sing, or arguably "try" to sing, depending on one's tastes, but he does not take up arms in any way. Caggan and the barmaids have no such compunctions however, with Caggan swinging the warhammer that was tossed to him, and the barmaids using their surprisingly heavy and sturdy serving trays as bludgeoning weapons.
Caggan Warhammer vs Breeze: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Barmaid Tray vs Nysene: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Barmaid Tray vs Aevelyn: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Everyone's turn.
Aevelyn BlackHair |
Aevelyn's eyes flash in anger at the barmaid's impertinence, but she stays focused upon the main threat Caggan. She steps back from the melee and calls upon her infernal powers, uttering a piercing scream that only Caggan can hear.
5' Step back.
Cast Ear-Piercing Scream at Caggan. The target is dazed for 1 round and takes 1d6 ⇒ 6 points of sonic damage. A successful DC 15 Fortitude save negates the daze effect and halves the damage.
Breezelee "Breeze" Krolmnite |
Breeze again swings her shortsword at the man, hoping he would finally fall.
attack to do nonlethal 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 4 = 16
Nonlethal Damage 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Nysene Ratarion |
"Rrr....that didn't hurt!" Nysene hisses at the barmaid who walloped her, eyes still focused on Caggan. She draws back her arm and attempts to land another punch and put an end to these shenanigans!
Attack vs. Caggan (IUS; Challenge, Power Attack): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage (Non-Lethal): 1d3 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Samy |
Breeze's shortsword staggers Caggan and sets him confused and off-balance for a nice finishing blow from Nysene, which knocks the large barkeeper back straight through the air, landing with a crash on one of the tables, whose legs break off. The legless table, with Caggan on it, smash down onto the floor and don't move.
The barmaids look rather incensed and remain in combat rather than giving up.
Shiloh still to go before the barmaids' turn.
Shiloh Darrow |
Sorry!
Glaring at the barmaids, "You really want to face not only personal injury but jail time?" Waving a hand over at Caggan, "Over him?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
If they do not give up then she will try to stab at them
mwk longspear: 1d20 ⇒ 5 Yep! Shiloh is gonna need to explain Valrah since she sucks so much!
Shiloh Darrow |
Yes! I did things!
"This will look much better on you. Thank you both for cooperating."
Looking over at the others, "I am not moving that man."
Breezelee "Breeze" Krolmnite |
Breeze looks at the barmaids. "How's the chili tonight? Go get me the whole pot, please.". There was no way that Caggan wasn't wearing that pot as the pillorying took place.
"Bard, you've got some questions to answer as well. Tell us about the subject of your new song. Don't leave out anything or you'll join Caggan."
Samy |
"Just because we're not fighting you doesn't mean we're your slaves all of a sudden", one of the barmaids snorts derisively. "You want Bolgart, we're not going to fight anymore. You push things, we can fight again."
Riley Kels blanches a little when Breeze turns her attention to him. "Wh-- what song? I...I don't know what you're talking about."
Aevelyn BlackHair |
"I would reconsider your response here as you were aiding and abetting a known criminal." Aevelyn responds in an icy tone. "If you do not wish to assist us here then conside yourselves dismissed."
Turning her attention to the bard, she gives him a sultry smile and saunters over to him. "Now Breeze, no need to be irate with the man. Vent your anger upon Caggan instead." Leaning closer to Kels she lays a hand upon his arm. "Perhaps you can tell me about your latest composition?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Nysene Ratarion |
Deciding to leave the matter of the bard and the barmaids in the others' hands for the moment, Nysene produces some manacles and secures the unconscious Caggan. She had rather hoped Breeze had been joking about the chili but it sure wasn't looking like it.
This'll cause enough ruckus around town as it is. And I can just see it now, they'll holler from the rooftops about 'cruel and unusual punishment' if we start dumping hot chili on people in the pillory...
Samy |
The barmaids leave in a huff, tossing their serving trays to the side and slamming the door as they exit. This leaves just Caggan and Kels in the bar with you. Caggan is unconscious and Nysene has no trouble manacling him.
Interrogating Kels doesn't seem to produce much. The bard is flustered and answers, "I...I don't know much about the Angel Knight! I just heard what Sword Knight Allamar related to us in the square, and I was...well...well I admit it, I was just terribly impressed! So I made up some songs and stories, but really, that's all I know. I swear!"
Aevelyn BlackHair |
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Aevelyn searches the bard's face for any sign of falsehood but can see none. Still she had to keep trying. Her duty would demand nothing less.
"Are you certain of this? I have heard from a reputable source you and she have actually met! If it turns out you are not being truthful with me..." She lets the threat hang in the air.

"Boy, I wasn't born yesterday. I see the lies all over your face. This is your last chance. Tell us everything or you will spend the night in a cell. Bad things happen in jails," Breeze mutters, extending the sharp claws from her hand pads.
Samy |
Breeze's Intimidate can convince the minstrel to say more, though it isn’t much.
Kels came across a woman in winged plate armor at dawn a couple days ago atop a hill 2 miles outside town. She was praying, and when the dawn light reflected upon her sculpted helm, Kels mistook her for an angel. He dropped to his knees when she approached, but she helped him up and told him not to be afraid. He asked her name and she gave it as Lencia Visserene. Then she left, but he was so inspired he spent the rest of the day writing ballads about her. Kels doesn’t know any more than that.
"That's all I know, I swear on my mother's name!"
Aevelyn BlackHair |
Lencia Visserene...that is a name I have heard...from the sermon: Knight-Inheritor of the Glorious Reclamation.
"So, you met only a couple of days ago? Did she tell you where she was headed? Do you know of anyone else who may have contacted her?" Aevelyn asks the bard.
...like Tileavia Allamar?
Samy |
"Couple of days ago, yes! She didn't tell me anything about where she was going! I don't think anyone else has talked to her!"
This is pretty much the extent of information that you are able to extract from Kels at this point.
+800XP for defeating Caggan
+400XP for defeating barmaids
+400XP for taking Caggan alive
+200XP for interrogating Kels
+2 Rebellion Points for breaking up the gathering at Last Stand
+1 Rebellion Point for arresting Caggan
Does Caggan go to the prison or pillory or some other solution?
Will you close down the Last Stand or leave it open?
Breezelee "Breeze" Krolmnite |
"Our mission was to pillory this no good Caggan. I say we see to that right now. Then we report back. Kels, if I hear anymore about your songs to this angel knight, you will be in the stocks trying to sing, you understand? Zip it, bub!"
Aevelyn BlackHair |
Aevelyn nods in reply to Breeze's suggestion. "Yes, let us pillory him immediately. Kels, should you be contacted by the Angel Knight I want you to report it to us immediately! You may find us at the Sheriff 's office." Looking around at the Last Stand establishment. "I say we leave the place open for now. It will make it easier to find those who objected to our decisions here."
Samy |
There is no staff to take care of the building tonight, but you can reasonably expect that some of the staff will come to the Last Stand tomorrow and will take care of running the business without Caggan, so leaving it open is fine.
"All...all right!" Kels nods and holds his hands up agreeably in reply to Breeze's threatening words. "I'll...let you know if I hear anything."
Caggan, unconscious, can't resist, so you can move him from the Last Stand (#8 on map) to the Longacre Jail (#11 on map). That's pretty much across the entire town, and Caggan is a fairly heavy guy and it's all dead weight with him out like a light, so it's like trying to lug a man-sized sack of slippery potatoes. Who will carry him and will you try to transfer him overtly or covertly?
Aevelyn BlackHair |
Aevelyn would recommend to get a wagon or cart to haul Caggan to the jail. It would be easy enough to bind, gag, and cover his face so no one knows about this.
Breezelee "Breeze" Krolmnite |
Sounds good. Might as well do a bit of searching the place... maybe there's a bit of gold lying around that the group might be able to put toward their healing wand.
