Well this week got away from me. Daughter tested with a fever at school, though I could not find the darn fever again at home, and I spent two days at home with her. Really messed up my week and work load.
Finally test came back with the expected negative.

Um, quick bit here, but I don't believe you can still use the fly spell while under the effects of Hold Person. Because you can't roll for the Fly skill check, and you cannot move and flying is a move action. Because Hold Person takes away your ability to act at all.
I know it does say that any winged creature drops to the ground upon getting held by the spell. But the spell also says you can't use any spells. So, I'm a bit confused here... I've always ran in games where Hold Person either causes you to fall, or remain in place where you had it cast upon you, since you can't take the move action to fly...
Once the spell is cast it should be a mental action to move. You are still conscious when under hold person. I have always rules that it is the difference between magic flight, a mental action, and winged flight, a physical action.
That said I will do some research and see what the consensus of the pathfinder nation is.
I know that the fly spell wouldn't be stopped but I thought moving with fly was still a move action? Which wouldn't be able to be taken if your held in place?

By a strict reading of the wording the spell does state that you can not take any actions except for a full-round to break the spell. That would mechanically, imo, mean that while he would remain where he was (no fly check required for magical flight to hover iirc) he could not otherwise move on his own because he cannot take the required move action. Amusingly it would mean that you could tie a rope to him and drag him through the air if you wanted to or blow him away with a hurricane blast of air.
Having said the above I have seen it ruled that you could, for instance, still and silent spell/cast something with no verbal/somatic/material/focus components since it does not require moving anything. That was more of a house ruling though than anything official I believe.
Ok, I did some digging and there are a lot of thoughts with good back-up logic. I am going to take him back to his original 20ft. He is a balloon at the moment.

This fight really is a pickle for the group make-up. If it wasn't the boss fight I would hold back a little but it is the end of the book fight so we will see what happens.
I really think we need a full healer... My healing wouldn't be good till another level or so.

Yeah, at the moment I'm more concerned with seeing if we can even survive this before worrying about recruitment. I mean we've got Radoseck down over half, the same with his goat, but whether those still up can take him down or not is the reall question. At the very least we can get his goat which will royally f!&& him over in the future but does little for us right now.
I wonder if I should start plotting a replacement PC in case things get worse.

Apologies for vanishing. The down time got me out of the habit of visiting Paizo regularly and I had a busy couple weeks.
So, I got a bit of bad news today, my grandfather is in the hospital. His lung keeps filling with fluid and they found a mass at the bottom. The filling of his lung isn't treatable... and we're not sure about the mass yet. But they have begun to speak about hospice care... his time is limited... So it is very likely I might vanish for a few days, if that be to help take care of him or to be there to say goodbye.
