Eal Longwalker |
"Fair enough, Krakkagar. Let's take a look at that cave."
Perhaps the small shield is equivalent to a buckler for Fyfe.
Eal gives some thought to the goblins' comments about a boss.
Knowledge (nature/goblins): 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9
Hm. Will arrows designed for a goblin shortbow fit a human-sized longbow?
GM Polygoon |
Luckily the goblins are using human sized equipment stolen from human travelers through the forest, which explains their terrible performance in this battle. The wolf had the most impact.
Goblins usually follow the biggest, strongest, and meanest in their number. This doesn't necessarily have to be another goblin, and larger evil creatures have been known to take over a goblin tribe for their own purposes. These goblins were probably following some kind of creature mean enough to boss goblins around and dumb enough to think they would be useful subjects.
This tribe of goblins, the Black Fang tribe, had stumbled upon the Thassalonian envoy when they were taking over this cave and most of them fell in love with the magical projection , which would smack them around when they kept failing their flattery checks, clearly a sign of greatness. They thought she was a goddess or something, and it would have taken something bigger an meaner to pull them away from just staring at her all day.
Grognar the Bold |
If nobody objects I would like to have a shortsword as backup(for under the pillow in night encounters). And the javelins.
I don't trust those goblins I'll watch the cave.
Move from J27 to Y32.
Check if I can see anything in the cave
treasure: 5d100 ⇒ (62, 76, 41, 47, 51) = 277
Navika |
5d100 ⇒ (45, 16, 23, 36, 65) = 185
awesome job with the sheet, Vortok. Thank you.
It is view only to me but gives me the option to ask for edit access.
Navika looks around at the bodies, but lets the guys check them. It is not that she is squeamish, she would just rather not get really dirty right now.
She makes her way over towards the cave.
Thank you for the arrows. Shall we head in?
Vortok |
It is view only to me but gives me the option to ask for edit access.
Should be fixed now.
After inspecting the goblins Vortok walks towards Grognar.
"Let's go into the cave. Grognar and I will walk in the front as both of us can see in the dark"
Mage armor is still active on Navika and Vortok until an hour has passed, the time is at you discretion GM Polygoon
Eal Longwalker |
Eal moves up about ten feet behind Grognar and Vortok, keeping a wary eye on the cave, and another one out for surprises.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 2 = 27
Fyfe Holme |
"Xilanfur will accompany the two of you, since our torches will spoil her low-light vision. I'll be right behind."
Fyfe and Xilanfur moved to U31 & V31, respectively.
Xilanfur Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Fyfe Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
GM Polygoon |
Good perception rolls.
The entrance of the cave has a curtain made of vines that obscures what lies beyond.
You can clearly hear the wicked giggles of goblins on the other side as they wait in ambush, and you can see silhouettes of three goblins. They can't wait anymore, they try to rush you.
Initiative please. Because of good perception you are not flat footed first round. As suggested we can do all goblins together and all heroes together, let's roll to see who goes first.
Goblin init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
If anyone beats that number then the heroes go first as a group.
Fyfe Holme |
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
I'm making a knowledge check to see if Fyfe can determine if that vine curtain will impede ranged attacks. I'm considering throwing another Entangle spell at them within the cave to give our archers a chance to pick them off, but not if the vines will be a problem.
GM Polygoon |
With the battle and looting of the bodies, I'd say half an hour has passed.
The cavern is made of dirt and rock, so there isn't enough vegetation to make a big impact. Actually the vines themselves could entangle whoever steps into them.
The vines won't really stop arrows, but make it slightly harder to hit because the goblins are a bit obscured. (-2 to hit)
Goblins go last so far. Poor poor goblins.
Fyfe Holme |
Hmmm... Probably plan b then, if we go in guns blazing. Fyfe will cast Magic Fang on Xilanfur and Vortok.
Krakkagar |
I moved myself more towards the group. I hadn't thought of moving myself on the map until now, so if I can't do that since we'd already rolled initiative, I'll move myself back.
GM Polygoon |
It's fine Krakkagar.
Will get us sorted soon.
GM Polygoon |
From your 4 minor treasure rolls
-potion of resist energy(acid)
-scroll of delay poison
-5d10 ⇒ (9, 5, 7, 9, 6) = 36 gp
-5d10 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 7, 1) = 12 gp worth of gems
-another 5d10 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 1, 9) = 17 gp
these dice...
GM Polygoon |
Turn order:
Xilanfur
Eal
Krakkagar
Fyfe
Goblins
Grognar
Navika
Are the mage armors still up?
GM Polygoon |
Oh yeah!
Xilanfur
Eal
Krakkagar
Vortok
Fyfe
Goblins
Grognar
Navika
Fyfe Holme |
Xilanfur charges at the nearest Goblin and bites at him through the vines.
(moved to X-40)
Bite Att: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 (trip if hit)
Dam: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Eal Longwalker |
Eal raises his bow slightly to shoot over Grognar's head at the southernmost of the three goblins just inside the cave.
attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16
not sure what minus to apply for the vines in the way
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Krakkagar |
Moving to Z32
Krakkagar moves up to get a better shot and fires at the same goblin Eal shot.
Attack roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
The arrow sails wide and embeds itself in the cave wall.
Vortok |
Vortok charges straight for the nearest goblin. X 32 to Y 40 , the goblin in the middle.
attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 1 + 2 = 20
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
That is one dead goblin
My AC is now 18 for this round because of the charge and mage armor
Fyfe Holme |
Grasping his new wooden shield close, Fyfe raises his scimitar and charges at the goblin Xilanfur just attacked...
Moved from U-31 to W-40.
attack: 1d20 + 0 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 0 + 2 = 4
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
... And misses spectacularly.
I don't think he even sliced the air on that one.
GM Polygoon |
-2 to hit at range, no penalty in melee
Xilanfur - Hit and trip Goblin4
Eal - Miss with the -2
Krakkagar - Miss
Vortok - KO Goblin5
Fyfe - whifff
Goblins
The stinky little creatures howl in anger as you ruin their perfect plan for ambush and punch their friend's head in.
Goblin4 attacks Xilanfur from prone.
Goblin4ShortSword: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 4 = 14
Goblin7 scowls at Vortok as he attacks.
Goblin7ShortSword: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Grognar
Navika
Eal Longwalker |
range increment for a longbow is 100 feet, so no range penalty at 12 squares, I think. Probably a miss anyway, if Grognar provides cover for the goblin (+4 to AC).
Vortok |
range increment for a longbow is 100 feet, so no range penalty at 12 squares, I think. Probably a miss anyway, if Grognar provides cover for the goblin (+4 to AC).
The vines gave you a - 2 to hit, not the range
Eal Longwalker |
Hm. some minus to hit, or increase in the target's AC (I suppose one could apply the cover rules to the vines), seems reasonable, but Polygoon said "-2 to hit at range" and I just want to make sure we're on the same page wrt to range penalties.
GM Polygoon |
I defined the reason for the penalty in this post:
Link
Grognar the Bold |
Grognar frowns as he sees the first goblin fall before he can join the action.
He grips his weapon and charges straight at the goblin.
charge from Y32 to Z40
As soon as he nears Goblin 7 he heaves his axe and swings.
attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10
damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
next round -2 to ac
is it possible to already see further into the cave using the 60ft of darkvision
Eal Longwalker |
I defined the reason for the penalty in this post:
Link
Ah, right, I'd forgotten.
Navika |
Navika moves forward, raises her hand and unleashes a ray of fire at one of the goblins.
prone goblin at x41.
ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
GM Polygoon |
Two goblins remain, one prone and one standing.
Round 2 begins!
Fyfe Holme |
Xilanfur attacks the prone goblin with both claws and a bite.
bite att: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
claw1 att: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
claw2 att: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
bite dam: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
claw1 dam: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
claw2 dam: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
That's probably one more goblin down.
Vortok |
You can let Xilanfur do a 5-foot step between attacks and let him attack the second goblin if at any time that would be more efficient.
If you do that after his bite attack I believe both goblins are dead now, as the first has an AC of 12, because he is prone, and suffered already 2 damage. After the first attack he is at zero. And with the other two attacks you kill the second goblin
GM Polygoon |
Wouldn't want to waste those damage points
The prone goblin is now permanently prone.
His friend is too.
All Goblins dead.
End of combat...for now...That was in a spooky voice
Free movement at the moment.
What happens next?
Fyfe Holme |
Fyfe takes several swipes at the vines with his scimitar (and hopefully doesn't miss this time).
"We should clear some of these vines before we explore any further. We may need to leave in a hurry."
Fyfe then kneels down to search the fallen goblins.
GM Polygoon |
Treasure rolls please, that's 5d100 from... let see...
Fyfe, Eal, Krakkagar.
At the moment I'm holding off on XP calculation until the end of the mission.
The vines slice easily.
Those of you with darkvision can see into the cave. There's a box along one wall, more like a chest.
Character position still matters for line of sight.
Grognar can see that the cave wall opens up on the left from his point of view, maybe a hallway.[/ooc]
[occ]When moving your character with a post, please keep the movement reasonable, around your move speed per post is fine, roughly.[/ooc]
Vortok |
Vortok walks into the room looking around for anything unusual besides the obvious chest.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
reminder that if there is unusual stonework like a trap or a hidden door, Vortok gets a automatic perception check with an additional + 2 if he comes within 10 feet
edit: Vortok decides to look around with his eyes closed for some reason
GM Polygoon |
Forgot this part
The moss curtain parts to reveal a small cave with a low ceiling. On the far side of the cave are a pair of straw mats, with a battered treasure chest sitting between them. Off to one side, a passageway leads to a pair of stone doors.
Vortok doesn't find anything suspicious about the doors. When we enter new zones or find doors you can go ahead and make rolls for detection, etc to save time.
Treasure
The d100 rolls are for some random charts I have. Eal rolledquite well.
As you search the goblin bodies you find:
Gold: 5d10 + 3d6 ⇒ (6, 10, 8, 6, 4) + (4, 2, 2) = 42
And a very nice leather bag. It is stylish and particularly well constructed.
