"The web I created can help guard our flank for the better part of an hour yet. How close are they?"

Anzath's paranoia notwithstanding, the forest's peace is undisturbed.

As you stalk carefully forwards, back to back with casters in the center, you keep your eyes and ears open:

Party Perception:

The eyes

Anzath: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

The aids

Vael: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Aurora: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Bedlam (plus two auto-assist for stone and maybe H. Awareness): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Talathel: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Tragershen: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18

And with so many capable pairs of eyes and ears, you make steady progress without spotting anything too strange, relatively speaking; after all, you're still choosing your steps carefully to avoid the webbed forest floor.

Soon those floor webs peter out a bit. Then, they pick up again. You're smart enough to take extra care, and, peering forward through the gloom, you see--the nest.

An enormous oak, at least four or five hundred years old, stands alone in the center of a clearing. It is almost completely enshrouded with webs. You see the forms of many spiders wandering in the depths of its fell canopy, including a few larger beasts, the size of the ones you encountered on the road.

You also see dangling forms on strings--the five-foot, six-foot version of the wrapped insects in an orb weaver's snare.

They don't seem to have noticed you, yet, but with their hundreds and hundreds of eyes sweeping the woods, someone is bound to see you soon...

Do those five or six foot versions of wrapped insects look like people? Or maybe wolves?

Making sure to whisper to to Vael and drow sign to the others, Tragershen says "Perhaps fire would work. But we have no idea how far the fire would carry, and what it would destroy. Maybe as a last resort?"

Then he adds "We could advance and try to take them by surprise. If our earlier fight didn't alert them, they may not be on guard here. I could cast a web spell around the trunk of the tree from the ground to the lowest branches; it may ensnare some and slow others, giving us a better chance. They may not even see it amongst their own webbing."

Tragershen sees that many of the larger webbed forms in the tree are indeed humanoid--and he sees that some of them seem to be struggling against the cords of silk.

Anzath sorts through all of her potential targets: many, many smaller spiders. A few large ones, like on the road. But peering in through the many strands of webbing, she sees a dark and towering shape that she hopes is just a weird outgrowth of the oak. Sometimes, if a tree loses a branch when young but reaches advanced age, it grows in just such a thick profusion of boughs. But when the cluster moves, she lets all of the air out of her lungs. This is no sigh of fear. The slayer knows that the breathless have the truest aim.

Bedlam rushes forwards--but the huge spider is still in the enormous oak, so he finds himself at the foot of the tree, facing a wall of webs--he can push through them, but they are difficult terrain for you folks.

Botting Vael: feel free to adjust your move!

Vael moves into position behind Bedlam, but her longer gait takes her up to the edge of the web in one quick motion. She readies an attack against any spider that should happen to approach.

Huge Momma picks her way through the webs and branches with the grace of an acrobat. Seemingly unconcerned by the assault on her home, she stops to give a quick look at an egg sac's general health before firing a much, much nastier web at d6 initiative order: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Vael. Dinner!

Huge Web dc 16 hp 7: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 - 2 = 18

Vael is now as entangled as her companion.

Now that the intruders who have wandered close to the tree are webbed, the rest of the smaller spiders surge forward and down, descending on pearly strands of webbing, fangs ready to inject their prey with deadly poison...

For the webbed: Medium webs have 2 hp or a dc12 str check and therefore can be destroyed by looking at them funny. Huge webs have 7 hp or a dc 16 str check, and you can probably each auto-succeed on that as well. They're just hear to slow you down a little...

Vael: Sorry about that, it's DC 16 to break it, but webs work by an attack roll, and that was to hit. here are the rules for web (they are downpage) and since those rules reference the rules for a net, here they are: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment/weapons/weapon-descriptions/net/ . So what I think happened is you got shot, you're entangled. That's not so bad except that escaping keeps you from attacking because it burns your standard action.

Bedlam, I believe that stuff only functions when someone enters your square, and I don't think biting you counts as entering...

Tal will charge

Talathel skewers a medium spider, but it is not dead yet. He places himself strategically to maximize his chances to get AOOs from any bugs that might head his way (other than the one that he just stabbed).

Oh shoot, I also noticed that spider Web shots are touch attacks, so y'all are definitely webb'd

Large spiders in range d3: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Med spiders in range d9: 1d9 ⇒ 1

Three horse-sized spiders similar to the ones you fought on the road move to attack the heroes. One heads towards each. Tal's second attack roll above spear flashes in an attack of opportunity, wounding the one that rears above him, a familiar, awful feeling...

Then, they bite.

Bite Bedlam: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 171d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Bite Talathel: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 141d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Bite Vael: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 101d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Bedlam, is that a hit on your entangled self? Your statline looks like you have an AC buff going, better than just Haste ,ut I can't remember what it is.

The rest of the babies gather around in the tree above and, noticing that he is not yet webbed, they shower Talathel with sticky doom from 20 feet away and up in the branches:

Web Shot: 1d20 + 5 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 5 - 4 - 2 = 13
Web Shot: 1d20 + 5 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 - 4 - 2 = 8
Web Shot: 1d20 + 5 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 - 4 - 2 = 7
Web Shot: 1d20 + 5 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 4 - 2 = 6
Web Shot: 1d20 + 5 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 4 - 2 = 12
Web Shot: 1d20 + 5 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 5 - 4 - 2 = 16

The elf twists and turns through the fusillade of silken strands, slapping some aside with his spear, dodging others--but eventually, one snares him.

The rest scramble forward to the attack how many are in range d6: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Everyone in melee gets an additional medium spider in their laps. Tal gets two.

AOO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 291d8 + 3 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 - 2 = 7
AOO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 281d8 + 3 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 - 2 = 6

Bite Bedlam: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 121d6 ⇒ 6
Bite Talathel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 211d6 ⇒ 4Fort Save Talathel, did you drink antivenom? If so add 5: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d2 ⇒ 2
Bite Talathel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 161d6 ⇒ 4
Bite Vael: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d6 ⇒ 2

Talathel feels the familiar sensation of being bit by a spider. Venom flows into his bloodstream. Unless you took precautions [ooc]

[ooc] Bedlam may act, and if the action above was your action, I'll keep the game rolling soon! Gotta go work a bit.

Bedlam still wants to apply the Vermin Repellent. With Haste AC 22 (Mutagen and Barkskin running).

Bites! Bites for all the good folk in melee! Five bites, this time Tal gets the extra bite off. But he also gets to stab that mofo.

Bite Bedlam: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d6 ⇒ 2
Bite Bedlam: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 31d6 ⇒ 4
Bite Vael: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 151d6 ⇒ 2
Bite Vael: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 201d6 ⇒ 5
Bite Talathel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d6 ⇒ 4

Tal gets yet another AOO:

AOO: 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 1 - 2 = 291d20 + 10 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 1 - 2 = 243d8 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3) + 9 + 6 = 26

...yeah, that one is toast! Yay! A spider is dead! It also means we can disregard the bite vs. Tal above.

Vael is less lucky: a bite gets through.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

She fends off the poison with the power of faith in fiery vengeance.

Anzath, Tragershen, and Vael may act! V, I think you're still entangled, but if you want to use your first roll above for squishing a spider, just say so!

Tactical recap: Vael, Bedlam, and Tal are pretty much surrounded by a swarm (but not a game-mechanical swarm) of medium and large spiders. Huge Momma lurks above, as do many more medium spiders. The three melee fighters are entangled in webs.

You know that makes sense. I fail at reading is all... Was there damage from the bite? And did we get AoO's when the spiders moved in?

Much as she wants to be free of the webbing that would leave Bedlam and Talathel alone in the swarm of spiders. "Do we all want to stay here and leave the other three out there?"
