Nithrandyl Eikrekkr |
"Go ahead and check, but give me a moment to collect my thoughts as I am not used to violence and need a moment to compose myself." Nithrandyl says as he leans on his spear.
GM PDK |
"SQUAWWK? why should we look at traps for you, genie-kin? look for traps yourself!" says one tengu, seemingly offended by the implication of your request. :)
6b.
Brightly painted carvings along the walls of this room
vividly depict mighty dragons in flight over shining cities,
while below, winged angels kneel and serve human masters.
Peacock-feather motifs dominate throughout the chamber,
and a faint, pleasant perfume drifts though the air. Several
humans lie supine atop biers draped in rich cloth—if they
are dead, the bodies are perfectly preserved and have
the appearance of relaxed sleepers, showing no signs of
corruption or decay.
The Balrog |
"I will look, if you will look too. Perhaps you are more clever than me and will find something I miss."
The Tengu are the only ones in the party who can disarm magic traps, but it is true that anybody can look. The ifrit's +3 Perception isn't going to find much, though.
Nithrandyl Eikrekkr |
"It seems we must all work together to survive this place. If we do not find a trap and one of us perishes then your chances of survival decreases as well. It could be the healer who would have saved you from death but died at the hands of a trap you could have saved him from."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
like belching during a wedding
Hskrota |
Hskrota says, "These bodies have been preserved in such remarkable fashion! There must have been magic involved somehow." He starts looking around for signs of a trap, then calls to the tengus: "Come on, then!"
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
GM PDK |
The tengus nod absentmindedly to Nith and Balrog, and follow Hskrota inside the chamber, their natural curiosity taking over. No traps are found by Hskrota or the tengus. Nothing of note can be found.
Hskrota Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Tengu Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Tengu Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
The Balrog |
I am sure there is some interesting magic at work here. If only I had studied more...
Balrog pretends to look studious. He casts Detect Magic while knowing he won't be able to identify any auras.
"Hmmm, Nithrandyl, what do you think?"
Nithrandyl Eikrekkr |
Nithrandyl nods at the ifrit and casts Detect Magic as well followed by Spellcraft if needed...
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Know Arcana if needed: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
The Wasp |
Wasp took the potions and jewelry if no one else did. He isn't one for leaving anything behind that might prove useful.
"Shall we check out this House of Sloth (6c)?"
GM PDK |
6c.
A large circle of tarnished silver powder, surrounded by
arcane symbols, has been laid down on the floor in the center
of this room. The center of the circle is empty.
This chamber was dedicated to the sin of sloth. A DC
23 Knowledge (arcana) check identifies the circle on the
floor as a magic circle against evil, while a DC 10 Perception
check notices that the circle of powdered silver has a gap
in it. A bound outsider was once conjured to guard this
chamber, but its binding circle was accidentally broken
by tomb raiders centuries ago, releasing the guardian
from its term of service. The room is otherwise empty.
Treasure: A DC 15 Perception check turns up a scroll
of remove paralysis that has fallen behind one of the
cabinets. The tarnished silver powder is worth 1 gp.
I'm gonna use Nithrandyl's Knowledge Arcana 23 check from now on unless it's higher than that...
GM PDK |
Moving on to 6e:
A grossly bloated zombie, its rotting skin
stretched and straining as if pumped full of air, guards
the House of Gluttony.
The Balrog: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Hskrota: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Nithrandyl Eikrekkr: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Orin Arkhein: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
The Wasp: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
bloated zombie: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
Round 1: (bold may go)
Nithrandyl
Hskrota
Wasp
Balrog

Orin
The Balrog |
"Fear not! We shall triumph over this abomination! Though on instinct I might suggest ranged attacks."
INSPIRE COURAGE (round 2 of 8)
+1 competence bonus to attacks and damage, +1 morale bonus to saves vs. fear
Hskrota |
The nagaji hisses and charges the zombie, drawing his cold iron heavy flail along the way.
attack+charge+competence+morale-power attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 + 1 + 1 - 1 = 21
damage+competence+morale+power attack: 1d10 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 + 1 + 3 = 14
The Wasp |
Seeing Hskrota charge in, the Wasp shrugs, and follows suit.
I know this will be bad because I think I know what this is, but the Wasp would not...
Attack, Arcane, Inspired: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 8
GM PDK |
Hskrota hits the zombie with full force but some of the impact rebounds off the bloated undead. Wast finishes the vile thing by a large diagonal slash of his sword... and the thing pops like balloon and showers you with ancient ungol dust!
Hskrota Fort save vs. DC 15 poison: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 for 1 pt. of Cha drain. [sorry about that... :( ]
Wasp Fort save vs. DC 15 poison: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Hskrota |
Heh no worries. The die roller gods have spoken. I assume I will be able to negotiate a restoration with the clerics here if we survive?
"Yuck!" Hskrota tries to wipe the dust from his scales but the damage has already been done. "I better be more careful next time."
The Balrog |
"Do you think this is what happened to the missing bodies? Turned into undead? Or turned into... Whatever that thing was in the other room?
We should continue our search for the cause of this problem."
Balrog will look around the room here before moving on.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Nithrandyl Eikrekkr |
"Dangerous rooms on the left and right of the hallway... will it be like that for the rest of the way?" Nithrandyl asks the group as he peers down the hallway...
GM PDK |
6f.
This room’s furnishings have all been destroyed beyond
recognition, and ancient dried bloodstains still mar
the floor and wall carvings.
Hskrota |
Assuming Balrog doesn't find anything dangerous...
Hskrota has a look at the House of Envy.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Orin Arkhein |
Orin follows as well, keeping a wary eye out for any threats.
Hskrota |
"This one here is locked. Let's see if we can get through that secret door you found first."
Nithrandyl Eikrekkr |
Nithrandyl stays back just in case something bad happens...
GM PDK |
The secret door swings easily; you find yourselves in a burial chamber with seven alcoves arranged along a 5-foot-wide corridor, with niches in the walls to hold the bodies of the deceased.
A skeleton with a half-plate and masterwork ranseur veers towards you and attack!

The Wasp: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Skeletal Champion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Orin Arkhein |
Orin casts bless on the party.
The Balrog |
Balrog moves behind Hskrota and uses Inspire Courage. Round 3 of 8.
"This creature is no match for us! We shall destroy it!"
+1 Competence bonus to attack and damage for everybody (and +1 morale bonus to attack from Orin's Bless).
GM PDK |
Skeletal Champion, Charge vs. Hskrota AC 18: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 14 for 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8 piercing damage. [MISS!]

The Wasp |
I assume Hskrota will move into the closest position to pound on the skeleton, so Wasp will attempt to stealth his way into an alcove.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Acrobatics, if necessary: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Rhoka attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Well, not sure what that acro roll means, but it doesn't look good.
GM PDK |
Dear players: assume nothing. There are several problems with The Wasp's last turn. When moving your pawn around, use current positioning. Also, stealthing means you move at half speed; acrobatics also means you move at half speed; unless you state otherwise and take the appropriate penalties. Therefore, using both skills would result in a speed of 5 (or each square worth 4 squares of movement). Due to The Wasp's speed of 20 it wouldn't even be possible to try going through the Skeletal Champion's square. Therefore in this case, I will rule that the goal was to avoid the AoO with acrobatics as he went through Hskrota's square, which failed. Even if Wasp had taken a double move to go through his square it would have failed, and it would have also triggered an AoO. Thus The Wasp's final movement is in front of the Skeletal Champion.
Skeletal Champion AoO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 for 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6 piercing damage.
The Wasp attempts to dodge and weave past Hskrota but gets stabbed in the shoulder by the Skeletal Champion. The Wasp attempts to retaliate and land an attack but the Skeletal Champion's armor deflects the rhoka sword!
Orin Arkhein |
Orin steps forward and reaches around the corner, tapping Wasp with his wand of cure light wounds.
clw wasp: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Hskrota |
Hskrota steps into the alcove and says, "Wasp! Step back so we can all reach him."
Ready an attack if the skeletal champion moves into range.
readied attack+competence+morale-power attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 + 1 - 1 = 12
damage+competence+power attack: 1d10 + 6 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 + 3 = 13
The Wasp |
I did forget the penalty for Acrobatics, sorry about that. I also forgot speed was only 20. However, as a wayang, he does get to move at full speed under stealth without the penalty, unless this is a brightly lit corridor. Otherwise, it all ended as I expected, except I was assuming Hskrota would resolve first.
GM PDK |
BOTTING: Nithrandyl and Balrog delay.
Skeletal Champion, 5-foot step backwards and attack Wasp's AC 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 for 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4) + 4 = 11 piercing damage. [HIT!]
Skeletal Champion, Confirm Crit vs. AC 15: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 for 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6 piercing damage. [not confirmed]

The two tengus do the exact opposite and take positions near the skeleton, both avoiding attacks from the sinister undead.
"SQUAAAAAWK! you're right! and none of these lumberin' bookworms set off any traps... let's take care of whatever's in there!"
Blue Tengu Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Red Tengu Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Nithrandyl Eikrekkr |
Nithrandyl moves in the hallway and then takes a step back to allow others some room. He then summons arcane powers that specifically target the undead...
Disrupt Undead ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19..DMG: 1d6 ⇒ 6
GM PDK |
The bones of the skeletal warrior clatter, some cracking in the process!
That was a hit, even with the his additional AC due to soft cover from Wasp
Orin Arkhein |
Orin delays, hoping Hskrota or someone more martial will step up to shatter this thing's bones.
GM PDK |
BOTTING: Wasp makes a full withdraw next to Orin for some sweet healin'!
BOTTING: Hskrota moves to strike with the flail:
two-handed, cold iron heavy flail, destined strike, bloodrage: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 27 for 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
CONFIRM CRIT VS. AC 21: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 13 for 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 [not confirmed]
...and obliterates the skeletal champion... the tengus are speechless.
--> Perception check everyone.
