Warhammer Game Notes & Maps

Climb down? To the outside of the trail? The bad guys are above you. I...don't actually even know how far the down direction is.

Warhammer Game Notes & Maps

I moved Nalina up one more square (double move) because I think she doesn't have reach, right? The normal dire tiger doesn't. That target was Cornelia and she went down, in any case.

"Hey, there's someone behind us! Go get them!" shouts Neville as he throws his atlatl dart at the huge tiger in front of him.

Drummond Crit Damage vs Ingrge: 1d6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9
Oops. +1 damage to Ingrge from Point-Blank Shot.

Drummond hurls an atlatl dart at Ingrge that strikes the half-elf with ferocious force. Neville's dart at Nalina misses her and he retreats back onto the plateau. 10 damage to Ingrge.

For our large-size peoples: as long as any of your squares is entering a climbing square, you'll still be Climbing. Drummond & Neville aren't visible from the path you started on anymore.

Pethwen continues to encourage her companions, her clear, musical voice ringing out over the battle like a soundtrack. She then rises into the air, flying up towards and above the crest of the hill. His first arrow strikes into Drummond, knocking the pirate to the ground. Ingrge launches the second arrow at Neville, but misses.

Rivani: I thought I said so in my last email but I'm assuming that you tried to climb up toward the fight in the last round and failed rather than tried to climb down on the opposite side of the map and fell to an uncertain fate.

Warhammer Game Notes & Maps

Jiro, we're doing a mushy sort of initiative where the monsters all go at the same time and the Pathfinders all go at the same time. Within a Pathfinder initiative (broadly speaking, broken up by my posts where I have the enemies act) the players can act in whatever order they want: usually the order they post in for convenience unless specified otherwise. It's an inaccurate way to do initiative, but if we did initiative correctly this would all take forever.

In the most recent instance, it was probably more confusing because I took a turn in the middle of all that for Ingrge.

OK, Crowe has climbed to the area I place him in and we'll say that's good enough for him to be done climbing. His two turns were: put away weapon (you need two hands to climb) and successful climb checks thereafter. I might have missed something, but this is close enough. Crowe doesn't have a weapon out at the start of his next turn.

"Trail Hounds forever!" shouts Neville as he sees his ally go down. He steps away from Nalina and throws an atlatl dart at Ingrge. While his throw is accurate, Ingrge nimbly dodges the shot.

Warhammer Game Notes & Maps

Ingrge did take more damage than Nalina. He needs 6 more healing to be topped off after the channels you already did. One more thing to keep in mind is that you didn't see all of the members of the Trail Hounds in that ambush.

Leaving the site of the Trail Hound ambush behind, you leave the hill country behind you as you descend into the jungle below. Thick vegetation and the dense forest begin to slow your progress. Your travels take you to a clearing in the forest where the trees are draped by wispy white threads that flutter and drift in the breeze. Mountains rise far to the north, while in the distance to the south the plains give way to thick, verdant forest.

There are some kind of very large vermin ahead that are happily (and messily) munching on the remains of some of your fellow racers.

Nature 14:
These creatures are known as Blood Caterpillars. Their thick hides are covered in sharp spines that attackers can impale themselves on.

Nature 19:
The spines are also covered in a venom that weakens the caterpillar's enemies. They can also launch thick strands of web that entangle their prey.

Perception 16:
Some of the cocoons are moving as though the creatures inside are still alive. The cocoons in question are suspended 10' off the ground.

Blood Caterpillar 3 Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3

Party turn!

Note: The map for this is REALLY small in comparison to the size of the combatants, so I added the map that you are starting on to the combat area. We're also going to declare that the squares are 10' in size. Except for Nalina, try to use up a quarter of whatever square you are in and so forth. Spells that do not last at least an hour per caster level are down, and it is the same day as the Trail Hound ambush. The caterpillars are large size.

As the group gets close to the large vermin....

"The creatures are named Blood Caterpillars. Their spines are poisonous, so be cautious around them. They can also shoot webs to entangle us. Best to either stay out of range or charge and destroy them quickly. I know which of those I'll be doing..."
As Nalina grins viciously, her grin gets even more vicious, her teeth sharpening and her body changing once more. Dire tiger form again. I'll also add the Shifter Aspect this time to get an additional +2 Dexterity.

Nalina then stalks forward, hoping to catch the creatures by surprise once the group gets closer.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Not very sneaky. Moving half speed forward, 20 ft.

The psychic will cast detect thoughts to see if she can see what is going on in the moving coccoons.

DC 15

Warhammer Game Notes & Maps

Rivani, you aren't in range to detect thoughts in the cocoons. Remember that these are 10' squares. That spell creates a 60' cone. You do get presence of thoughts, but you'd expect that to be your allies.

One of Ingrge's arrows pierces the thick hide of the northmost caterpillar and Crowe's attack slashes downward in a spurt of gore, but fails to kill the creature. Neither caterpillar is bloodied yet.

GM Dice:

Caterpillar 2 Bite Crowe: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Caterpillar 2 Damage Crowe: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
Caterpillar 3 Bite Crowe: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Caterpillar 3 Damage Crowe: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
Caterpillar 3 Bristles Crowe: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Caterpillar 3 Damage Crowe: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Caterpillar 1 Damage Taken: 6
Caterpillar 3 Damage Taken: 16

Sensing the presence of new scrumptous food, the northmost caterpillar plows its way through the jungle undergrowth, trampling bushes and small trees in its wake.

The other two caterpillars bite down with their massive maws at Crowe. Both sets of teeth gash down on his armor and pierce through. 16 damage & 14 damage to Crowe. The caterpillar that he attacked earlier also attempts to stab Crowe with its bristles, but they fail to reach him.

Critters do appear to have reach. Party turn!

Warhammer Game Notes & Maps

One other thing I should mention before you guys take your turns. For each natural attack or non-reach melee attack you guys make on these critters, I need you to make a Reflex save and a Fortitude save. The Fortitude save won't actually happen unless you fail at the Reflex, so make sure that they are paired together in some obvious way.
