My family and I am having some issues. I am not in a good headspace because of it as I am questioning our relationship. I do not know how reliable I will be posting so please bot me if I am lagging behind.

Hey everyone, thanks for being patient, but I'm happy to say that I'm back and the move is now firmly in my rear view mirror. Huzzah!
DM: can Bernard effect some kind of swashbuckling move where he climbs and leaps off a bookcase or the telescope or the like the get a whack at Lodo?
And hugs, Nisany. Take care of yourself, first and foremost as always.

Hey Nisany, sorry to hear about your personal issues. Hang in there.
Have a big e-hug!

GM Neirikr |

Welcome back, Bernard!
You can definitely attempt a DC 12 Acrobatics check or a DC 15 Climb check to clamber up the telescope, and use that as a running start to leap wherever you can reach with your movement. However, failure might cause harm to the mechanisms, if you miss the DC by 5 or more.

GM Neirikr |

We're more or less done with the estate at this point, but unless you can find a way to open the iron bookcase and the chest in the study, it's likely coming out of your pay—the acolytes of Abadar are not any better at disarming magic traps than you are, and its your contractual obligation to get rid of all threats to their well-being. They might have something for getting rid of arcane locks, but there are very few rogues in town.

Nisany Blim |

my keyboard is hella messed up and i am not sure when I can get a plug in one for laptop. and getting the keyboard fixed is expensive. i am here but having technical issues

Zaijka Raven-born |

Since Khardir has Disable Device, I think the arcane lock is the only problem. Let's see if there's either someone willing/able to prepare knock and come with us or a scroll we could buy/commission.

Vibenia Scaeva |

We have a really weird collection of spellcasters. LOL

GM Neirikr |

Magical traps could be an issue, since you don't have a rogue. However, I think in this instance it's fair to rule that bypassing the arcane lock bypasses the traps as well—the physical keys have allowed you ignore many traps already, so it makes sense the arcane locks would function similarly.
With the death of Hunclay, there's no one in Belhaim who can natively cast knock. However, there are... 4d100 ⇒ (28, 26, 44, 93) = 191 ...three scrolls knocking about, which are 150 gp apiece. There might also be other spells (maybe some sort of divination) that might help you find the "key".
You could also call in your favour with Maffei: even in her weakened state, she has enough Disable Device to deal with all of the traps and locks in the estate.

GM Neirikr |

Sorry for making that more complicated than it had to be: I totally forgot about poor Arnholde, who is both A) dangerously curious, and B) practically imprisoned within his own home—of course he would go snooping about the birdcage as soon as he got the opportunity!
Anyhow, you're free to continue your investigations if you so wish, but the job is done: by passing on the keys you will ensure that the notaries—as well as any future homeowners—can bypass most of the traps safely. If they want to use the telescope, that's on them. :P
Feel free to start levelling up (!!!), and let me know when you want to move on to the meeting with the baroness. You have the evening to yourselves.

Vibenia Scaeva |

Whoo hoo!!!
The level of important choices. Spellcasting or spell-less archetype, Animal companion or companion bond. Hmm...

Zaijka Raven-born |

Digging through a new level of spells always feels overwhelming, haha.
GM: Do you happen to know what 2nd level spells were in Hunclay's spellbooks, or was it just "x number of 2nd level spells"? I'm having a hard time narrowing down what I was and was thinking of grabbing one from his books for thematic reasons since she was just reviewing them.

I just realised this game has been going on for (very nearly) two years now, which is kind of mind-boggling—play-by-post has a strange effect on my sense of time. I'm not sure if I should be proud we've kept it going for all that time, or worried about how long it's going to take to finish.
Anyway, I've had a blast so far, so thanks for sticking around, however long you've been here! :)

Bernard Hammersmith |

Huzzah! How far along would you say we are? And this is proving to be a truly wonderful game; love the setting, love the PC's, and love your DMing style. Win-win-win on all fronts.
Thanks for running, and I can't wait to see where our troublesome band goes next!

Vibenia Scaeva |

Thank you, it's been an absolute blast!

GM Neirikr |

How far along would you say we are?
I daresay we're roughly halfway through, or probably closer to two-thirds towards completion—the adventure module is divided into three chapters, of which we've now finished two. The third chapter has more content than the first two individually, but it's also a lot more briskly paced.
To give you an idea of what to expect, without spoiling too much: we'll have a whole month of downtime before the auction, which is the last chance to hang out in town without interruption—that could take up as much or as little of actual playtime as you want. If you wish to craft, or retrain, or order something from out of town, you should get that out of the way here. After that, things should move along a lot faster. Additionally, there is an entire (small-ish) dungeon which is optional, if people want to cut to the chase, though skipping it might make things a bit more challenging near the end. I'll make sure to signal which way that lies, once we get to it.

Nisany Blim |

I agree. And you mentioned this was a longer one and pbp can make it seems longer. But it has been a lot of fun. I'm so attached to all the characters! And you mentioned the various side quests and the skyrim fan in my is all about side-quests.
And downtime is a good chance to try and get to know the relative Nisany has in town that I keep forgetting is there.
I have a handful of modules I would love to run, of various levels, as I have recently figured out how to get the maps copied. But I know I have not been the most reliable person posting wise.

Zaijka Raven-born |

So one more year IRL :P Sounds like we need to start discussing what to play next!
I kid, I kid...
See, you think you're joking, but even in my IRL campaign, people were planning their next characters by, like, level 10. The campaign went to 18. XD

Zaijka Raven-born |

I'll be on vacation from now through the 15th. I'll have my computer on hand and should be able to maintain normal posting rate, but if you don't hear from me, feel free to move along without me if need be.

Same. XD

*nudge*
I'll be out of town next weekend, and I might not able to post. Meanwhile, I'd like all of you to think about what you're going to do during your downtime. As I said before, you'll have a month to yourselves: you can use the retrain rules if you want to, or if there are any loose ends you'd like to follow up on, you'll have a chance to do some research. I don't recommend going out adventuring, since this is the only downtime you're going to get—best use it on downtime activities. If you can't think of anything, that's fine too. Just let me know, narrate what you're doing to pass the time, and we'll move on to the auction.
At the very least, I think we have to deal with Bernard's old boss (who's coming back after a week), and Nisany indicated earlier she'd like to finally visit her great-aunt. Others should be welcome to attend the latter meeting, I assume.
