The zombie that has been following Silo continues to shamble after him, then is distracted by the movement of Cel's blast and careens into him.

Cel takes 9 damage.
The undead soldier slams Cel painfully.

The two zombies closest to Dulae swarm around her and strike at her sword arm.
Zombie 2 slams Dulae: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Zombie 7 slams Dulae: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Dulae's armor deflects the blows.

The zombie Henri slashed at strikes back at her.
Zombie 9 slams Henri: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Zombie 9 crit confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
No crit.
Zombie 9 damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Henri takes 9 damage and is unconscious.
The zombie lands a heavy blow to Henri's head and she falls, unmoving.

The necromancer attempts to rise to his feet.
Necromancer provokes AoOs from Xizoh and the two surrounding zombies that haven't taken one.

Zombie 10 AoO bite Necromancer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

"Stop!" the necromancer cries out in panic as his is attacked from all sides. One of the creatures manages to bite him in the shoulder and he staggers, almost falling.

Concentration check to cast defensively: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
The necromancer mumbles some cryptic words and shouts, "I command you to stop!"

The zombies close in on the necromancer, heedless of his command.
Zombie 4 slam Necromancer: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
Zombie 9 slam Necromancer: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26
Zombie 9 crit confirm: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24
Zombie 10 slam Necromancer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Zombie 9 damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 4) + 8 = 15
The three zombies pin him to the ground and one rips away his appendages, face, and skin, stuffing his flesh hungrily into its mouth. His agonized screams echo in the chamber before dying away.

Xizoh notices the three zombies look occupied with their feast. He isn't sure how long that will last, but he thinks they would not attack at the moment unless provoked. He also sees Henri lying helpless nearby.

Sorry Xizoh, I forgot you asked how many rounds of bloodraging you have left. I calculate you have 4+Con_mod(two)+2/level_past_first(four) = 10 rounds per day (I never remember to write this down). Looking at Xizoh the Fleshbeast's posts, it looks like you've used 8/10 bloodrage rounds this in-game day. Might be worth noting 10/day in Xizoh the Fleshbeast's header so it'll be easy for us to check in the future.

Shaking his misshapen head in both disgust and sympathy, Xizoh bolts over to Henri. Giving her a quick assessment, Xizoh quickly pulls a pair of differently colored vials from his much abused satchel. Giving them a quick once over, the half elf uncorks one and downs it despite his unnaturally loud gagging noises. Ugh, like the time Dad accidentally used brine slime as a sauce on a recommendation from one of the customers."

Protectively hunkering over Henri, Xizoh murmured, "Sorry about the wait, just wanted to make sure I have time to get you up."

Drew out a potion of cure light wounds and hide from undead, and drank the later. Curse you action economy rules *shakes fist* I got you next round Henri.

Not yet - my read was Dara grabbed the knife with her remaining swift action and had yet to cut the rope with a standard action.

Okay, so I'll use the swift action this turn to cut through the rope.

Cutting the rope almost completely through, the Dwarf dropped the knife, pulled another arrow and fired at the closest zombie.

Fire at Z3: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 1 = 19

Please, headshot: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5


I'd said it cost a swift to grab the knife and a standard to cut the rope, but, Dara didn't take a move and I'm sure it took her less time than that, so, cool.

Silo is able to snap free of his bonds thanks to Dara's efforts. Silo now has freedom of movement.

Dara's arrow pierces through the zombie's eye, protruding several inches out of the back of its head. It flails its arms more weakly toward Cel, but it is still standing.

Cel grimaces at the blow he sees coming as he hands Silo the wand. He tries to shy away but getting the wand to Silo was just not going to happen without getting it. Handing off the wand and free to move he dodges away, 5' step back, and prepares to fire back...

Attack Z3: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Damage if that hits: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 1) + 7 = 12


Silo now has Cel's wand of healing (received with a swift action).

Cel's blast flies wide of its target.

"Thank you, my boy!" Silo calls to Cel. Seeing the zombie, Silo ducks behind Cel and Dara where he can reach them both. He uses the wand first on Dara.
Heal Dara!: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Dara recovers 9 HP.

Still to act: Alaina. (Henri is unconscious. (Hi Henri.))

Dulae braces for impact and dashes past the remaining zombie, moving to stand over and protect Henri until Xizoh can pull her out.

Sharing a square with Henri - what happens when she is healed and gets up? Moves to another square for free?

Also: Did the zombie that went after Cel provoke an AoO from my last position? I thought I had blocked the lane that Silo took.

As the zombie slams into Henri, she blinks once, then twice as the force of the blow staggers her. She lets out a shakily held breath as her vision blurs, before falling to the ground, unconscious.

I mean at least the crit didn't confirm, then some very bad things might have happened (Hi, Mikkel.).


Go right ahead Dulae. *checks map* Yup, Dulae and Alaina should've gotten an AoO on Zombie 3 when it followed Silo. (Revision history is a wonderful thing.) Yes, if Henri stands she'd move to an adjacent legal square (I say of her choice, though I can't find that written).

Alaina and Dulae should roll a belated AoO on Z3, and if you drop it we'll retcon the damage to Cel.

The zombie next to Dulae swipes at her as she runs past.

Having very little choice in the manner, the Wolf faced off against the one remaining Zombie. Focusing all her remaining will, Alaina lashed out.

Kick to the sternum: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9


Barely.

Greenwall smashes into the zombie's face, crushing the bones in its skull. It staggers, but it reaches for Alaina, still standing. Alaina's kick falls short.

Dulae whips her bastard sword around as the zombie passes to chase Silo. She cleaves its legs from its body and it falls, unmoving.

Cel adds back 9 HP. Cel can re-do his move from this turn on his next turn if he likes. His shot is re-directed to another target of his choice and is a miss. (And this retcon makes it straightforward to address that I also forgot Silo provoked an AoO from Z3 with his move. (I blame jet lag.))

Map reset. Zombie 3's body moved to where it fell.

The zombie Alaina just smashed in the face growls and throws itself at her.

Alaina takes 5 damage and is unconscious.
The zombie delivers a crushing blow to Alaina's ribcage. She falls and does not rise.

The three zombies rip apart the necromancer's body, tearing muscle and sinew and greedily stuffing their mouths with snarling bites. Blood is smeared down their fronts and has pooled around them. They do not yet look up at Xizoh, Dulae, and Henri.

The amulet is lying on the ground where Xizoh left it, still flickering with dark red sparks.

Until stabilized, Henri and Alaina should makes a DC 10 constitution check with a penalty equal to negative HP or take one additional negative HP.

Having the wind knocked out of her, Alaina started to recover, then......everything went black.

Kneeling over Henri as his flesh bubbled and hissed, Xizoh poured his potion into her mouth with painstaking precision. His task done, the half elf rose with wet eyes and slackened posture. "You didn't need to throw your life away for something so heinous." Perhaps that could have been me a some point, twisted and warped from learning the wrong ideals.

Sighing softly, Xizoh jerked his head towards the feasting dead. "I've got Henri covered. I don't suppose you have a special secret trick Sunshine?"

CLW Potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Arise Henri, and let snark and shot rain upon our enemies! *Evil cackle*


Henri gains 8 HP and is conscious and prone. (She can take a turn this round - she'll need to stand up in an adjacent square.)

Henri coughs twice, practically choking on the potion as it invades her body - she grimaces as she struggles to her feet, grasping at a potion from her pack. "Don't worry, Doc. I've got someone who'll keep me on my feet." She gives Xizoh a wink, before uncorking the potion with her teeth, and downing the thing in one go. "Damned zombies don't know what they've got coming."

Cure Them Light Wounds!: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

I don't know what I expected.


Good point about Dara's arrow, I missed that. Welp, hold on to your hats.

==== RETCON PART II: THE RET-CONING ====

Summary: Dara's arrow from the previous round is re-directed to Zombie 2, which dies before it knocks out Alaina, who is conscious and gets a turn this round. Dulae's attack is re-directed to Zombie 4. (I think I walked that through the whole way this time, but holler if you spot anything else.)

Dulae's sword cleaves deeply into the undead soldier's back. The three zombies whip their heads away from their feast and toward Dulae, Henri, and Xizoh.

Dulae's position on the map is reverted. Henri regains 2 HP. (Dang, you've inherited Alaina's luck from the party's first time in these caves.)

"No tricks, just steel." Dulae says to Xizoh. She glances at his wounds, and the zombie's renewed attention. "This is about to get rough again. Pull back, doctor, I'll last until Rabbit can blast them off me."

She finishes her swing and lets out a sigh of relief at seeing Henri standing again. "Not the best place for a nap, Fireball."

No need to redo my move, it worked out anyway :). Also using this move the Gather Power for Extended Range.

Cel turns to throw a Blast across the room and lets loose.

Looking at Henri with a critical eye, he chuckles. "I always worry. A good doctor is like a mother in that aspect."

Shaking his mop of wild hair, Xizoh pants out, "I'm good. They shouldn't notice me, I just drank a potion to hide from them." The doctor sluggishly grabs and hefts his chain. "Just let me stay to make sure you two don't get overwhelmed."


(Worry isn't gendered in this universe (or ours, ideally). A good doctor is like a parent in that aspect.)

Cel's blast just misses its target.

Collapsing to one knee, Alaina took in a deep breath. Come on Alaina, they need you. Getting up, she moved forward, keeping her shield up to fend off any sudden attacks.

Moved and fell into Total Defense.

Silo uses the wand on Dara again.
Heal Dara: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Dara recovers 2 HP.
Silo starts to run toward Alaina and Henri, then hesitates, seeing the zombies growing more aggressive. "If you're injured, run here! I can heal you!" he calls.

I had to say it out loud, didn't I? Also, I'm totally doing a statistical analysis of this combat after its over. Our GM is a l33t haxx0r.

Minor correction: In a prior post Dulae mistook 9 for 4 with these tiny illegible numbers (still haven't found a good solution for that) and I didn't catch it. This is corrected in the zombie HP.

Cel's shot goes wide.

Dulae's sword cuts into the zombie's torso, severing its spine. It collapses in a heap of bloody limbs.

Henri grins, having just awoken and tumbled out from underneath Dulae. "I beg to differ, Retired Sergeant Hardass." Potion bottle still in hand, she moves around Dulae to deliver the hard glass onto the skull of a nearby zombie.

The bottle shatters as it slams into the zombie, embedding glass shards in the side of its head and scattering sharp pieces across the chamber floor.

Xizoh passes by the zombies unnoticed.

Xizoh:

The young man's body is lying face up with his clothes mostly torn away. Xizoh sees the front side is missing most of its skin. There is only bloody bone where his face used to be, and his eyes are empty holes. His internal organs have been ripped out and eaten; one coil of small intestine is on the chamber floor where a zombie abruptly dropped it. Large pieces of flesh are missing from his shoulders, arms, and legs, clawed out by the hands and teeth of the undead.

The body's jaw is intact and closed; Xizoh thinks it still has a tongue.

Seeing her badly injured cousin facing a fresh-looking zombie, Dara fired another arrow at it.
Dara shot on Z4: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage to Z4: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Dara's arrow goes through its chest and it staggers.

Taking advantage of the creature's distraction, the Wolf whips Greenwall into its chest and follows with a powerful roundhouse kick.
Greenwall to the sternum (Z4): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage to Z4: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Kick to the chest (Z4): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Damage to Z4: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Alaina hears a dull crack as her shield smashes into the zombie. Her kick makes a dent in its chest, striking Dara's arrow and wrenching the zombie's ribs apart. It gurgles blood and falls limply.

I'm half-expecting the mean of d20 rolls I've made for this fight to be something like 2 higher than the rest of the gang, which is nuts.

I'm not sure about the mean, but I suspect you variance will be very high - a surprising number of crits this combat. But they did have a lot of attacks.

Pushing himself to his feet, Xizoh moved atop the corpse of the necromancer. Dropping his elbow to add momentum, the doctor swung his chain downward with a slight wobble. "Tired already Henri? I thought you had more stamina."

5 foot steps are a beautiful thing, as well as flanks.


Cel’s blast goes high above the zombie.

Dulae’s mighty swing cleaves downward through the zombie’s shoulder and into its chest. As it falls, Xizoh’s chain rips into it from the other side, severing its head and neck from its body. It collapses with a splurch into a puddle of the necromancer’s blood.

All is quiet, making the echoing drip of water from the ceiling seem suddenly loud. Eleven broken and bloody bodies are scattered around the chamber. Nearby, the fractured amulet lies on the ground where Xizoh left it. Dark red sparks arc across its surface, crackling softly.

Hey, you made it and nobody died! I was worried there, because holy actual f*ck how the hells did those zombies playtest as CR 1/2.

@Dulae - bet you a beer that relative to the 5 players my variance was nominal and my mean was higher.
