I don't really like the idea of Koya coming; I think her old age would put her at serious risk here. I think she and Ameiko at least should stay behind.
Sow thoughts could maybe help keep the creature grounded, assuming it doesn't make its save, if I urge it to use claws and natural weapons on its attackers (or something along those lines).

To expand: people whom you bring or assign different tasks to frequently will level once or twice per adventure. Otherwise it will be zero or one. You should level three times per adventure.
You dont actually NEED to bring people along or level up your NPCs but it doesn't feel right to level up NPCs from just being in proximity to you guys and the awesome crusading that You're doing.

Vashta Denaria |

I think it's worth bringing them (assuming they're interested; we wouldn't force them). Honestly, having Koya especially be a higher level could be really valuable (and will help them survive in Tian Xia).
I don't necessarily want them to fight a dragon with us, but this feels like a combat that we can hopefully control a bit better.

I agree, we should think tactically about our inclusions; Koya needs to gain levels to have her spells remain viable and just to be able to survive. We will almost certainly be ambushed in camp at some point and we don't want everyone falling over dead from one area effect. Also, having NPCs on adventures is a good way to develop connections with them (which means that Aiko is both for and against bringing Ameiko: she wants to have Ameiko near but also doesn't want to put her in danger). Ameiko's got that dead level of aristocrat, too, so she needs all the help she can get. Shalelu is probably the most competent, so she needs the least help.
I think for this particular adventure, unless something really surprises us, we can probably safely bring "the crew." In other cases we might only want one NPC at a time, since otherwise if a problem happens we'll have trouble saving them all.

Just wanted to share that my first Campaign Setting work for Paizo is finally out!
I contributed the write-up of the Formidably Maid for Inner Sea Taverns, which was released on Wednesday.

Welcome to the underpaid, overworked game designers' club! :D
Also, @DM: Still need to know if this is the same day as the raid on the shaman's tower, or the next day.

Clarabibulus Flingflopsparkfizz |

Yes, next day.
My extracts:
2nd (4/day) DC 17 - Invisibility, Resist Energy, Barkskin, Barkskin
1st (6/day) DC 16 - Adhesive Spittle, Expeditious Retreat, Expeditious Retreat, Reduce Person, Blend, Heightened Awareness

I should mention: light should be in effect here. There is dim light in the first 20' of the cavern. In addition, there is normal light within 20' of Tallak and dim light within 40' of Tallak. No PCs have low-light so that doesn't matter.
I'll add yellow circles to the map around Tallak next chance I get unless someone gets to it before me.
This may mean we have to move Calder and Aiko a bit back as their speeds are reduced by entering total darkness.

Just a head's up that I'll be leavin' on a jet plane to go see my wife -- for I think the last time! (Hopefully last time I'll have to take a jet plane to see her, that is; I hope to see her again, more frequently starting in June).
I'll be gone -- and probably not posting at all March 10-20 -- plus sometimes need a day or two to recover from jet lag at the end of that. As you probably know by now, I also sometimes slow down in the preceding work as I set up all my arrangements/do all the chores I need to do for while I'm gone.

Tallak Sigurdarson |

Let’s see what the party does. I have a new character concept in mind, one that could even let Nightfang stick around! Heh

Tallak Sigurdarson |

Leinathan, sent you a list of potential backups.
Seeing as Calder is the only real Ulfen among us, he would likely know, having talked with Tallak, that dieing an honorable death in battle is a desired outcome. But again, I leave it to the RP to decide.
Do what feels natural. I can make a fun concept either way.

Calder Brandson |

While he's saddened by Tallaks death Calder would think that Tallak has avenged his son and died in battle. He will miss having someone sensible to talk to though.

Clarabibulus Flingflopsparkfizz |

Don't worry, Clara's not going anywhere! ;0)

Clarabibulus Flingflopsparkfizz |

Calder, I think (when you're able) the scene needs you to in character let us know Tallak wouldn't want to be revived since he was honored to die in battle, protecting Koya and others.

Clarabibulus Flingflopsparkfizz |

I'm on vacation but feel free to advance without me. Setting a trap for the dragon with the wikkiwak loot (minus the belt, which a front liner should wear) sounds good to me

Vashta Denaria |

So who takes the belt? I suggest Calder or Aiko, being as they're most likely to be our frontliners at the moment.
Everyone else, should we head back to the village? There was no rush regarding the dragon and Aiko points out that we know have more knowledge the shaman is up to no good (sharing these creatures' holy symbol), though I'm still at a bit of a loss of how we can use that.

Hattori Aiko |

Calder please! While I am "front line" I really should be doing my best to avoid taking hits, rather than soaking them on hit points. :)

Oy! Sorry to hear that. I hope you get some relief soon!

FYI, I'm heading to a wedding in New England this weekend. I'm not sure what my posting availability will be Friday-Tuesday, though it's possible I do have time to post each day as I'll be staying at my parents' house ... and they happen to be out of town. :/

Hattori Aiko |

I'm guessing that the battle map hasn't been updated, because the gameplay thread says that Ameiko defeated the final ogre, but there's still one on the map next to her.
Where is the shaman? Is he the blue-white figure in the upper right? Is he still 20' above the ground?

Clarabibulus Flingflopsparkfizz |

leinathan can give the authoritative answer but I believe the answers are:
1) last ogre is really dead
2) blue-white is shaman, is where he really is on map, and is still flying
EDIT
As for my action...I'm not sure how much we'll be able to do to him, at least until his buffs run out. Do we want to just run out the clock on him?
leinathan, if we were to back down the tunnel we came in, is there a place where the ceiling would be too low for him to fly above us? I'm picturing a spot where he couldn't get LOS on us without getting into melee range.
If folks want have options to continue the fight with him I'm game. I'll probably just pull out a crossbow and accept the -4 to ranged attacks from his cloak of winds...but waiting out his buffs actually seems reasonable to me.

leinathan |

OK, I gotta answer Clara's question: Yes, the ceiling is much lower is the tunnel that leads into this chamber, and he could not fly out of melee reach back in that tunnel.
Whatever you do (even if it's saying, "F this" and retreating) you should still actually do it.
