Eryndir
|
Eryndir nods. He hides himself behind the bank, knocks and arrow, and takes careful aim at the top of the tower, waiting, and watching.
Stealth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Asatsuyu Sochi
|
Asatsuyu Sochi slips behind the cropping of rock and also takes aim at the tower. She looks over her shoulder at the longshoreman and shaman, shakes her head, and looks back to the tower. She mumbles, "The superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions."
Stealth: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (11) - 4 = 7
Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8
Stealthy and perceptive as a rhinoceros.
Eryndir

[dice=Stealth]1d20-4
[dice=Perception]1d20-2Stealthy and perceptive as a rhinoceros.
Apparently, Eryndir stopped somewhere along the way back to the towers to put on his bright orange hunting jacket. I think he's also playing a tuba.
-Kyras-
|
Kyras creeps toward the westernmost tower while keeping an eye and ear out.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Meanwhile, it looks as if Kyras brought his white outfit.
Beromir
|
Only half listening to Rha'ziz and Skaarr, Beromir remains focused on the towers and the ranger's scouting. He slowly draws his longbow and nocks an arrow to it.
How tall are the towers ?
Take 10 for a 26 on perception
Kella Stinkmouth
|
After Eryndir rejoins the group, Kella moves to each of the goblins in turn and says something in Goblin to each of them, eying them sternly and waiting until they nod in the affirmative.
"OK, bosses - my warriors ready! Give sword to goblins, we capture towers for you!" she states confidently.
| GM Lamplighter |
Eryndir leads the party forward to the rocky outcropping. Surprisingly (and somewhat unsettlingly) the goblins drop into a sudden silence as soon as they are aware of the possibility of being spotted. It reminds you that despite their comical appearance, goblins are also stealthy and sadistic killers when they need to be.
The group reaches the outcropping, but Kyras is nowhere to be seen. After a moment, Beromir spots him wriggling forward through the snow, heading closer to the towers. He also spots at least one small humanoid on top of each tower in the gaps between battlements.
As the group readies itself and Kyras inches forward on his belly, you can faintly hear a cry of alarm from the direction of the towers. The cry is answered, and over the top of the battlements you see two small heads appear on each tower, scanning the pass in front of you. It is easy to identify them as goblins.

Round 1 (partial)
Big Mouth and Durp both await Kella's orders (already moved them in the intiative order listed above).
Goblin #4, on the southern tower, sticks his head over the battlements and shouts out in a gutural language not unlike that spoken by Kella just moments ago. Without waiting for an answer, he aims his short bow and fires! Short bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 The arrow lands in the snow near Kyras, who has obviously been spotted.
Goblin #2, on the northern tower, takes aim and fires his bow as well. Short bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 This arrow skips off of a patch of ice near Kyras as well.
Goblin #3, on the southern tower, fires his bow and then holds it over his head triumphantly, even before the arrow's flight ends. Short bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 The arrow misses Kyras as well, prompting a laugh from Goblin #4, and the eruption of an argument between the two.
Please declare your actions for the round. It's best if you look at where you go in the round to get a sense of who moves before you, but you do not have to wait for them to post before you do. Remember, actions don't actually occur until I summarize them in the "Round X" format above - you're just posting what you *want* to do. You can give me conditional orders if you want: "shoot at X. If X already dead, do Y instead."
-Kyras-
|
Seeing the arrows hit near him, Kyras crawls over to the rock that is nearby so that it will give him some cover when he stands up.
He can only crawl 3 squares a turn, so he crawls two squares down and one square to the right.
Eryndir
|
Eryndir lines up goblin 1 with arrows.
Arrow 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12, Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Arrow 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15, Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Rha'ziz
|
Assuming the snow is not deep enough to qualify as difficult terrain...
Rhaz pulls out one of his daggers and hands it to Kella. He gives her a stern look, nods and then gets moving, stopping momentarily to prompt the rest of the group (including the goblins) into action.
He is taking a risk by involving the goblins, maybe against his better judgment and certainly against the orders of his superiors, but then again rules and caution are meant to be disregarded.
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Who will Kella's squad fight for?
I will be running along the upper edge of the map to the entrance of the closest tower in an attempt to draw fire away from Kyras and initiate a mass charge among those who are better equipped for melee.
Rha'ziz
|
Note: If the terrain here is considered to be an ice sheet that requires an acrobatics check to run across then I will not run and will simply execute a double move.
Skaarr
|
Well then I can't see where I am and there's no point in me playing. I understand not being able to switch. I wouldn't want to if I were DMing, and Google is accessible to everyone who doesn't live under a repressive government like I have the joy to. Good luck guys, you're on your own.
Rha'ziz
|
Here, just have somebody (like me or the GM) email you the map as a jpeg, etc. each round.
The setup is like this: We are on the upper left side of the map behind a boulder all bunched up together. The towers are positioned on the right side of the map. Kyras is a little bit ahead of the group in the open and is taking fire. There are a few boulders strewn about the area and a road goes between the towers.
I'm sure with a little bit of imagination it won't be too hard to visualize the scene in a more abstract way. I don't think any of us would have an issue helping you out to clarify details as they relate to combat tactics and mechanics either.
I'd like to see you stay but if you can't then that's understandable too. I can't stand authority either. It really doesn't matter what loaded symbols it masquerades behind too - Mao, Communism, Democracy, Free Market Enterprise, National Security, Economic Development, etc. - its just different flavors of the same thing and its enough to make my head spin until I just give up and accept it. I won't though, and that's part of the 'problem' with me. I'd rather be in distress with my eyes open and my hands on the steering wheel than comfortably resigned to let someone else drive me to God-knows-where. I've been jailed, physically beaten (sometimes with weapons) and treated like an animal by my own government for 'crimes' like speaking my mind too freely on public forums or for making personal lifestyle choices that happened to be illegal as a result of backward laws. I also have seen multiple friends' lives ruined via long term incarceration and relegation to permanent second class status for similar reasons. I wish we didn't live in an Orwellian world where super-states and big corporations ruled our lives, but that does not mean that we have to allow these forces to win. Its just a matter of adapting to what they throw at us and not giving up.
We are living, breathing, thinking, feeling beings. Systems of social control are not and that's the bottom line. Governments, technologies, religions, economic systems, etc. are our inventions. We built these things and can also get around them (or if need be dismantle them). The power distribution may appear to be the other way around but it really isn't. We just allow ourselves to be defeated.
And no, this is not Rhaz talking.
Where there's a will, there's a way, my friend.
I hope you reconsider sticking around. If not, you have my best wishes. Sorry about the rant too. I do tend to go off on tangents. Best of luck to you.

Open office can be used as a replacement for google drive or the Microsoft things. If you use that and someone updates you with emails when the map changes, you should be able to see the map.
Skaarr
|
I guess if the e-mailed map would have the tokens on it that would work.
Or something simple and easy like Cubeupload which requires no personal information and would be much easier than e-mail, as it's a single drag and drop and then copy the link.
Rha'ziz
|
I set up an account under the name 'FrostfurMap1'. The password is 'skaarr'. Now anybody in the group should be able to copy/save and then upload the map so that you can see it every round.
The first map is uploaded now. You may either logon to access it or directly access it here: Encounter 1 Round 1
Skaarr
|
Thanks, Rhaz! That's perfect.
Skaarr stands up and begins running forward, charging the towers and the goblins within, roaring in defiance.
I will run forward 90' if the terrain allows, if not, double move forward 60' in a straight line.
Rha'ziz
|
Yeah, me too. I'm going to hand Kella one of my daggers with a wink (omit sense motive check) and then follow the same route as Skaarr.
And as he passes by Sochi, he quietly reminds her that, 'no man or woman is superior to any other.' The word 'superior' drips with venom. He then gives a smile and a salute and is on his way.

Round 1 (Complete)
Rha'ziz draws a dagger (move action)¸and passes it to Kella (standard action).
Eryndir fires a pair of arrows at the goblins, but they are well-covered by the battlements.
Kella squeals in delight and grabs the dagger from Rha'ziz. She shreiks something in Goblin, and charges toward the tower, sinking into the deep snow.
Big Mouth, Durp and Chompt follow Kella through the snow.
Sochi fires her short bow at the goblins. Short bow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 The arrow shatters on the face of the tower, and the goblin ducks down in surprise.
Goblin #1 sees many more targets approaching, and shouts a warning to his comrades before firing his bow. Short bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 His arrow lands wide of Kyras as well.
Kyras moves to cover.
Grabble and Kroog follow Kella.
Beromir fires his longbow at the goblins, but misses. Longbow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Skaar moves to the path and heads towards the towers.
| GM Lamplighter |
Round 2 (partial)
Goblin #4 fires at Skaar. Short bow: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 - 2 = 20 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4. The small arrow hits the half-orc in the shoulder, drawing blood, and prompting a cheer from the goblin.
Goblin #2 fires at Kyras Short bow: 1d20 + 4 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 2 - 4 = 14 The arrow just misses the half-elf's outstretched leg as he lays prone in the snow.
Goblin #3 fires at Skaar Short bow: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 2 = 13Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1. The second arrow also hits the half-orc, grazing his upper arm and leaving a red line on Skaar's bicep.
Declarations for Round 2 please!
Rha'ziz
|
Crap! Rhaz mutters upon seeing Skaarr up ahead and in the open.
Double move down to the path and, if I have any move actions left, run to catch up with the half-orc.
Skaarr
|
The second arrow should have missed me. I cast mage armor in this post. I just forgot to update my stat line, sorry.
Skaarr grunts when the little arrow enters his shoulder, and laughs when the second missile shatters against the magical armor encasing him. He holds the flat of his huge axe up like a shield, and runs forward in an ape-like crouch while laughing madly.

Move action; Move thirty feet to the right.
Standard action; total defense action.
AC:20 this round.
Beromir
|
Beromir adopts a defensive stance and moves towards the rocky path.
I take the total defense action and moves SE/S/SE
Otherwise, for an upcoming action, is it possible to know the approximate height of the towers?
Skaarr
|
You said the towers have had the snow pushed off the battlements and its now piled around their bases. Do they have visible doors or doorways? If so, are the doors free of snow? If not, is it a DC 15 to climb the towers?
| GM Lamplighter |
There is some snow around the bases of the towers, piles a couple of feet high. It looks like there are some stairs along the outside on the far (east) side of each tower, leading up to an entrance. The entrance is only about five feet above the ground level. (North is up - the actual direction of the pass is not east-west but I'm using this to avoid confusion of directions. I will add coordinates to the next map. Will do the next update tonight.
Rha'ziz
|
Is it safe to assume that the entrances are where the path branches off to lead up to the towers?
Also, maybe Eryndir's tuba could send out some shock waves to weaken the towers' structural integrity? ;-)
Rha'ziz
|
Bye bye guys! PFS has proven not to be my thing. Silly organizations that emphasize politeness and social respectability over more human qualities don't sit well in my gut. Have fun. I'm outta here.
Rha'ziz
|
Yeah, sorry. I had to take a long walk just now. I think I need to go back into therapy or something because I'm getting triggered left and right and its taking me back to places I don't need to go. Just made the mistake of going on a messageboard to respond to somebody who has PTSD and is getting %^$@ed with repeatedly every time he GMs. Everybody seems to want to take shots at him and make fun of him for having a problem with it. That hit a nerve and pushed me over the edge and I don't need that. Its been nice playing with you guys. Erydir, Sochi, same to you despite the rivalry. And Scott, thanks for hosting the game. I hope I didn't disrupt things too much. Peace.
Rha'ziz
|
Cool, thanks K. Btw...if you (anybody in the US) know anybody who is thinking of enlisting, do whatever you can to get them away from the recruiters and talk them out of it. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
Rha'ziz
|
Yeah. Dad's a Vietnam vet. I'm a lot like him in many ways. He tried to talk me out of it too but I was so pissed at it him growing up that I was dead set on making him upset so that made me want to join up even more. Guess the joke was on me in the end.
Hmm. I almost don't want to leave the game anymore. This is a good group. But I feel REALLY guilty for making a spectacle of myself on here and for disrespecting Eryndir and Sochi...and I don't want to ruin the game for others.
| GM Lamplighter |
Round 2 (complete)
Goblin #3 fires at Skaar Short bow: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 2 = 13. The second arrow also hits the half-orc, but bounces off of a bluish shield just in front of him.
Rha'ziz wades through the snow to the path and sprints up to support Skaar.
Eryndir fires another pair of arrows at the goblins. Longbow Arrow 1: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 2 - 4 = 11Longbow Arrow 2: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 4 = 18 Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2 The second arrow finds its mark, and Goblin #1 howls and drops down behind the battlement.
Kella, Big Mouth, Durp and Chompt charge toward the tower, oblivious to the deep snow slowing them down. Chompt pulls out a short piece of wood he's sharpened with his teeth, and Durp tries to play his flute, sing, and run at the same time.
Sochi fires her short bow at the goblins. Short bow: 1d20 + 2 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 2 - 4 = -3 The arrow goes short, sinking into the snow at the base of the tower.
Goblin #1 swings his bow towards the group of goblins and fires, then yells something out in goblin. Short bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1 The arrow grazes Big Mouth's shoulder, but he doesn't even seem to feel it in his battle fury.
Kyras crawls behind the rock anmd winds up next to Kella, startling her. She raises her dagger, but then stops, looking confusedly between Kyras and the tower. "We fight? Elf not fight?" she asks.
Grabble and Kroog continue to follow Kella, Grabble stumbles in the snow and lurches to the right, which has the unintended consequence of getting him out of the deepest snow. He quickly catches up to the other goblins and passes them. He has a rock in his hand, held high as he charges ahead at the towers.
Beromir moves cautiously towards the path, and winds up with firm ground under his feet.
Skaar runs forward, passing Grabble and returning to the head of the race to the tower.
| GM Lamplighter |
Round 3 (partial)
From the northern tower, you start to see a faint
Goblin #4 pauses, and yells at the onrushing goblin prisoners in the goblin tongue. He has an arrow knocked, but holds his fire. Although you don't understand what he said, it sounded like a question rather than a threat.
Goblin #2 switches targets to the onrushing goblin horde, and yells something else in goblin, sounding more like a threat than a question. Shortbow: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 2 = 13 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3 The arrow hits Durp in the chest, and he drops his flute and starts wailing.
Goblin #3 fires at Skaar again, angry at having "hit" the enemy without sticking. 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 2 = 12
OK, Round 3 declarations please!
