"Thank you Derik, I wanted to use something a bit smaller then a grappling hook. I guess I will try to fish the key out with a grappling arrow, at least those hooks are a bit smaller"

Eolowyn takes a grappling arrow and tries to fish the key out of the basket, without disturbing the snake.

Eolowyn sees the basket move and hears an angry hissing from within it, but when she pulls out the grappling arrow, the key is precariously balanced on its tines. The scenario leaves this whole encounter very open ended. I have never seen anyone try that before, so I figured, why not?

The runes on this key match those surrounding the keyhole of the red lacquered chest. When this key is placed within the keyhole of the red lacquered chest, the chest opens without the key needing to be turned.

Perception DC 16:
As the red lacquered chest opens, you hear a faint click from the cieling. Looking up, you see a tiny golden key hanging from a string about 15 feet up.

Inside the red chest is a key forged to the end of a jeweled scepter.

Appraise DC 15:
While the key is real, the jewels are just costume jewelry.

You begin your trek back to the Lodge. A throng of people blocks the street ahead. A performance art group commandeers the street, drawing graffiti to create a jolly hellscape complete with illusory devils comically dancing around in circles. A few citizens avoiding the crowd
slip off-street through a nearby alley, the only egress past the gathering. You also go through the alley. As you make your way through, you hear a whistle and the alley is suddenly shrouded in obscuring mist. Four figures are barely visible in the haze: a blonde halfling with a handlebar mustache and a greataxe, and a very plain Galtan man with a rapier. Behind them is a redheaded lady with no visible weapons, but a shimmering shield floats in front of her, and a smiling, crazed looking blonde woman with shimmering force armor.

They have total concealment, and you can't pinpoint them with sight, but as soon as you move into the mist you would be able to move toward shapes and then you would get close enough to pinpoint, which would be partial concealment. So Marcus moves E, E, E, E, and can see shapes. SO he moves NE and BAM! There is a dude there matching the description I wrote for him. Also, you can't take 10 in combat, and just because you cannot see your foes does not mean that you are not in combat, and you only move at quarter speed per climb check, and my guess is the houses are 10 feet high, 2 climb checks, or 2 move actions. You can make an accelerated climb, of course, if you take a -5 penalty on your roll. I will wait for you to correct your action before I take the first bad guys' turn.

Boff runs into the mists, and finds one of his companions on the ground, not breathing. Correct me if I am wrong, but negative hit points when raging for anyone but a h'orc or a person with diehard knocks them unconscious, correct?

Also, I misread Deandre's tactics in my description. She doesn't have a glowing shield, but she does have some sort of protection spell cast on her. The red head lady, who is wearing a mask that the GM forgot to mention, casts a spell.

Sorry, blondie is down and dying. Marcus, as for your message, she actually used a spell-like ability, and her and I apparently forgot her concentration check. So, you get an AoO.

Marcus: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Crit Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10

Ok that is annoying. Your regular swing needs 1 more HP to kill her, and you missed your Crit Confirm by 1. I'm just gonna give it to you. Because of the things going on in my life this has taken way too long.

As Deandre uses her spell-like ability, Marcus sees an opening and strikes. He attacks her with an overhead swing, slashing down with all his might. The blow very nearly cleaves her from head to pelvis, and she slumps to the ground.

If you choose to interrogate the fallen, you will find that Deandre was trying to start her own little gang and wanted to target fresh Pathfinders for moneys.

When you arrive back at the Lodge to report your success, Ambrus Valsin is pleased that you completed all of your tasks with still plenty of time left. His joy, however, is quickly replaced by sorrow when he learns of your fallen comrade. He promise greater responsibility in the future, and that future missions will go beyond the unassailable walls of Absalom.

I need Society numbers, if they are not in your profile, and day job checks where applicable. I probably won't have time to finsih the Chronicle sheets tonight, but I will be able to finish them tomorrow evening for sure. Thanks for playing, and for your patience, future games will not be so slow.

Thanks for the game Krash, no day job for me. PFS ID is in profile, but here it is again: 24861-3

Derik is dead and Krash will report him as such. That means that he can never be played and that his PFS ID is not used any more (just the part after the "-"). All his posessions are gone (send to relatives or kept by society if you will)

If you are not done with his character concept you can easily introduce his brother to the society as a new character with his own PFS ID. That is a personal matter though and entirely up to you.

Liked playing with you all!

Prior to posting in General Thread, I'd like to rework my cleric to be at least a bit more usable to the party, since he was originally built with the idea of channeling negative energy and bringing undead creatures to piece with Pharasma.

Now, I am toying with the idea of taking Versatile channel, instead of Command undead feat, and my questions are the following:

1. If I take the Versatile Channeler feat, would Improved channel feat apply to both positive and negative energy channels? Reading the forums, I would say YES, but want to check, prior to deciding.

2. If I take the Versatile Channeler feat, would I be able to Spontaneously cast (convert) my spells to Cure spells also? Again, reading the forums, the answer seem to be NO, but...

3...if I actually understood everything correctly, I can decide for my cleric to be Positive energy channeler (so I can heal when needed by converting to heal spells), take Versatile channel and still be able to (at a later stage) take Command undead and similar feats, or hurt living creatures with my Negative energy (albeit at -2 CL). Right?

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Gamer 12/Game Designer 1

1. Yes that would work. The Improved Channel feat does not specify that you need to apply it to one type of channel, and my brief forum research says "yes".

2. I would say no also. You choose to be able spontaneously cast Cure or Inflict spells when you select positive/negative energy, and the Versatile Channeler feat only allows you to use either type of energy, not gain both versions of spontaneous casting.

3. Sounds about right :)

Hi, being new to PFS and since this is my first character, I have been updating my character based on the info I have been seeing your character sheets. I hope that's alright.

I've got my backstory written out and I'll add that to my sheet when I get in from work. Cheers.

Hi Derik,

One minor pet peeve of mine: I do not like it when classes are explicitly mentioned in character.

In my opinion a class is a mechanical thing unknown to the character or others. There are grey areas, a wizard could call himself a wizard (or a mage, conjurer etc). However for all Derik knows Eolowyn could be any class as all elves can shoot the bow.

Thanks!

That makes sense I'll keep it in mind.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Gamer 12/Game Designer 1

Eolowyn, I understand that that is a pet peeve, however: Even in the Pathfinder novels the characters talk about their classes at times. For instance, in Queen of Thorns, there is a character constantly referred to as an inquisitor, even by other characters. Same with a wizard, 2 druids, a ranger, and a paladin.

Ok, fair point.

Doesn't change me cringing when a character says after they have just met: "you are a ranger so you can track" without the ranger introducing herself as being a ranger.

Derik, do not take it personal, I wanted to tell you how I feel about a tiny bit of your posting. I really like the way you are portraying Derik!

Don't worry, I understood it exactly as you meant it, we just met, you have a bow, you didn't say anything about tracking the way Marcus had, there is know way my character would that you were a Ranger :)

And I get that some players may think of themselves as their class with a twist, for example Derik may think of himself as Holy Knight or a Divine Warrior and not a Paladin,(not that he does) and refer to himself as such, it can add flavour, helps break the stereotype we may have of the classes.

Should we log these now (enter in Char. sheet as PC possession), or do we wait until the end of scenario? I am used to have one "lump" sum given to us at the end of a session, but if you're doing things differently, that is also OK.

The way I play it in my games (not implying that your way is wrong)

The pier is 15 ft above the water, a small boat usually has its deck less then 2 ft above the water, so it is 13 ft down. For that distance it is my opinion that a climb check should be made.

I set the DC at 10 "A surface with ledges to hold on to and stand on, such as a very rough wall or a ship's rigging.".

Boff you can try and use the torch as an improvised weapon.

TORCH
Price 1 cp; Weight 1 lb.
A torch burns for 1 hour, shedding normal light in a 20-foot radius and increasing the light level by one step for an additional 20 feet beyond that area (darkness becomes dim light and dim light becomes normal light). A torch does not increase the light level in normal light or bright light. If a torch is used in combat, treat it as a one-handed improvised weapon that deals bludgeoning damage equal to that of a gauntlet of its size, plus 1 point of fire damage.

Improvised Weapons: Sometimes objects not crafted to be weapons nonetheless see use in combat. Because such objects are not designed for this use, any creature that uses an improvised weapon in combat is considered to be nonproficient with it and takes a –4 penalty on attack rolls made with that object. To determine the size category and appropriate damage for an improvised weapon, compare its relative size and damage potential to the weapon list to find a reasonable match. An improvised weapon scores a threat on a natural roll of 20 and deals double damage on a critical hit. An improvised thrown weapon has a range increment of 10 feet.

@Boff - feel free to drop torch on the ground. Rutilus, who is not of much use in combat can pick it up and carry it either in his off/shield hand (if allowed, not sure if he can both wield the shield and carry a torch in left hand at the same time) or simply pick it up in his main hand, instead of the simple cudgel he uses right now.

Combat is over. However, I slept in today because I worked till 1am and then my son kept me up till 5. I have to get packed cause I have 120 miles to drive today for some more pre employment testing, this time at a police department, and then I have to come back tomorrow. I will update later this evening when I arrive at my wife's parents. Tomorrow, I will have time to post when I get home, but I also have to get ready to GM a local WotR game on Monday. Sunday, I may not be able to post until late, after a local RoW game I am in. Monday, I have an employee meeting in the morning, I have to drive 50 miles to sell my truck (and back again) and then I am running the aforementioned WotR game, so posting will be sparse, if I post on that day. Tuesday, my wife and I are wanting to do some "winter cleaning" to our apartment before I go to my local weekly PFS meet in the eveing, so posting will be sparse, if at all. Wednesday, we will be doing any remaining cleaning, so everything will return to normal then.

I will not be posting at all tomorrow. When I get off work tomorrow morning around 4am (after getting there at 5pm this evening), I have to immediately go home and get 3-4 hours of sleep so that I can drive back to the Dispatch Center 120 miles away to continue my employment testing for 3-4 hours, then drive back to be back at work around 6:30pm tomorrow evening, to work another 10-12 hour shift. I will be able to post once on Sunday, but I have church, my wife's birthday, and work that day so it will be a brief one.
