"Thank you Derik, I wanted to use something a bit smaller then a grappling hook. I guess I will try to fish the key out with a grappling arrow, at least those hooks are a bit smaller"
Eolowyn takes a grappling arrow and tries to fish the key out of the basket, without disturbing the snake.
Just in case a die roll is necessary: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Krash4031

Eolowyn sees the basket move and hears an angry hissing from within it, but when she pulls out the grappling arrow, the key is precariously balanced on its tines. The scenario leaves this whole encounter very open ended. I have never seen anyone try that before, so I figured, why not?
The runes on this key match those surrounding the keyhole of the red lacquered chest. When this key is placed within the keyhole of the red lacquered chest, the chest opens without the key needing to be turned.
Inside the red chest is a key forged to the end of a jeweled scepter.
Eolowyn

Eolowyn smiles "Seems like they did not count on archers"
She shoots an arrow at the piece of string
Ranged attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

"Nice shot!" says Derik clearly impressed with her marksmanship.
Rutilus Pont

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Appraisal: 1d20 ⇒ 18
"Yep, a really nice shot" - Rutilus adds, with a bit of phony irritation in his voice. Reaching for the key, he adds: "Now, let's finish this and finally have some decent drink, shall we?"
Will save: 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 4 = 23 I am assuming it's a will save to disbelieve illusionary box, with additional +4 added for Eolowyn warning
"Too bad both this box and the scepter are just illusions. Well, at least the key is real. Now, what do we do about the trap on the steel chest?"
Eolowyn
|
"oh what the heck, this girl will show you men how to deal with traps. "
Eolowyn tries all keys on the trapped chest.
Eolowyn

Will Save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Look, I found the map!
Eolowyn then discovers her color What is happening to me?!
Rutilus Pont

Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Oh, I don't believe this! Not a single drop of booze since this morning, and still I'm hallucinating?!?
Raising his arms, Rutilus takes a good long look at his hands. Seeing they are not blue, he finally realizes it is a real world effect. "Probably some spell, a magical protection of sort...if I could just remember which one..."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Spellcraft check in order to try and determine if he knows anything about the spell, effects and such...
Scratching his chin, he adds absent-mindedly: "Nope, no idea what it is."
Eolowyn
|
Eolowyn strides to the door and tries to open it with one of the remaining keys.
"I have had it with this place, let's get out. We have got what we came for, all our tasks are accounted for. The only thing left is reporting back to Ambrus."

When eolowyn opens the vault door, the party finds the servant waiting for them on the other side. He smiles at the party, and tells you that you can keep the map and the wand but that he needs the keys back. "I see the elf, the hunter, and the orc failed a portion of the test." He almost laughs. "But it is the whole, not the part that matters."
will update further this evening

You begin your trek back to the Lodge. A throng of people blocks the street ahead. A performance art group commandeers the street, drawing graffiti to create a jolly hellscape complete with illusory devils comically dancing around in circles. A few citizens avoiding the crowd
slip off-street through a nearby alley, the only egress past the gathering. You also go through the alley. As you make your way through, you hear a whistle and the alley is suddenly shrouded in obscuring mist. Four figures are barely visible in the haze: a blonde halfling with a handlebar mustache and a greataxe, and a very plain Galtan man with a rapier. Behind them is a redheaded lady with no visible weapons, but a shimmering shield floats in front of her, and a smiling, crazed looking blonde woman with shimmering force armor.
Boff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Derik: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Eolowyn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Marcus: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Rutilus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Deandre: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Good thing you guys rolled high... lol. The part of the alley that is in the circle is covered by the mist. Rutilus, Marcus, and Eolowyn are up.

"What the hell? Since when did the robbers become so stupid and desperate?" - Rutilus asks loudly, with a smirk playing on his face.
Raising his holy symbol high, he steps back in between the fighter types, and performs a short incantation: "The Lady of Graves protect us all, and fill our cups with your blessings!"
Rutilus casts Blessing - Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects.
If possible, I would try and position Rutilus to avoid any AoO, but if needed, here's the check Concentration: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Note that the mist obscures all vision beyond 5 ft, so we can not see the enemy and they can't see us.
"What now! I will climb up the roof to see if I can see something from there"
Eolowyn climbs up the roof to the south of her and then moves two squares east, she readies her bow to shoot any enemy that she can see.
Climb take 10: 10 + 5 = 15
Readied Attack, PBS, Bless: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 11
Damage, PBS: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9

"So you think to rob us! Die you fools!" yells Marcus as he moves up and attacks the bandit standing next to the wall.

They have total concealment, and you can't pinpoint them with sight, but as soon as you move into the mist you would be able to move toward shapes and then you would get close enough to pinpoint, which would be partial concealment. So Marcus moves E, E, E, E, and can see shapes. SO he moves NE and BAM! There is a dude there matching the description I wrote for him. Also, you can't take 10 in combat, and just because you cannot see your foes does not mean that you are not in combat, and you only move at quarter speed per climb check, and my guess is the houses are 10 feet high, 2 climb checks, or 2 move actions. You can make an accelerated climb, of course, if you take a -5 penalty on your roll. I will wait for you to correct your action before I take the first bad guys' turn.
Marcus charges ahead into the obscuring vapors, finding Larkin and striking him with his falchion. The blow connects with Larkin, felling the enemy.
Eolowyn

2 move actions for Eolowyn then to climb
climb check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
climb check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Eolowyn climbs halfway up the house, and then almost falls, but is able to catch herself.
The crazy looking blonde lady fires a ray of acid at Marcus.
Acidic Ray (Point-Blank, Precise): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 29
But due to the mist, she misses.
Derik is up!

Derik draws his greatsword moving forward into the mist striking at the first for he is able to discern.

Derik rushes into the mist and swings at the halfing barbarian as he almost runs into the slip, his greatsword creating swirls through the mist. The paladin strikes Ledford hard in the torso, blood flies, but it is not enough to take down the foe.
The halfling laughs as he roars with rage, a terrifying sound to say the least. He swings back at Derik with his great axe.
Rage, Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 - 1 = 24
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
Crit Damage 1: 1d12 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10
Crit Damage 2: 1d12 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 20
The swing is true, and the greataxe connects with the paladin's neck, almost beheading him. Derik falls to the ground, dead before anyone hears the thud.
I really hate when I kill a PC in PFS. I really do. Sorry man.
The unconscious Larkin tries to stabilize, but continues to bleed out.
Fort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Luck of the Dice, it happens. Not your fault. It's part of the game. I really enjoyed playing. This is was my first PFS Character and my first PFS game, so it's sort of fitting that this my first character loss.
Krash4031
|
THe good part of that is that you are not really losing anything... I would feel worse if the character had more Chronicles under his belt. Honestly, this last encounter is a little brutal for first level characters...
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 38
Boff runs into the mists, and finds one of his companions on the ground, not breathing. Going into a rage, he steps forward and attacks his fallen ally's assailant, slicing open the halfling's stomach, causing the slip to collapse. Correct me if I am wrong, but negative hit points when raging for anyone but a h'orc or a person with diehard knocks them unconscious, correct?
Also, I misread Deandre's tactics in my description. She doesn't have a glowing shield, but she does have some sort of protection spell cast on her. The red head lady, who is wearing a mask that the GM forgot to mention, casts a spell.
Based on the incantation, you think the spell is shield of faith

Unaware of the drama that happens in the mist, Eolowyn climbs the final section to the roof, on the roof she moves forward while readying her bow.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Rutilus pauses for a second, trying to determine what spell was being used by the red haired lady. Failing that, he steps closer to fallen paladin, but seeing that man is almost beheaded, priest understands that Derik has passed Pharasma's door.
May the Lady guides your soul. Let see if I can save others lives.
Rutilus approaches Boff from behind and casts Protection from Evil on him.
Boff

Boff continues his rampage and heads for the next victim. The rage is so great that his blue hue is now appearing almost red as blood pulses through his veins.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Eolowyn reaches the roofs and moves forward, bow at the ready. Rutilus casts a protective spell on his ally. Marcus swings at Halli, creating a gash across the sorceress' chest as she slumps to the ground.
Boff moves to attack the red head, but misses.
Deandre is obviously furious. "USELESS FOOLS! NORGORBER, WHY MUST I DO EVERYTHING MYSELF?" suddenly, there are two of her standing there, and both of her attack with their shortswords.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
The blow connects with Marcus, slicing down his torso.

Not sure if I may act, if not then just save my actions. Also not sure if the blonde is still alive.
Eolowyn moves forward into the mists and spots a woman in the alley. She nocks an arrow and fires it in one swift motion.

We don't know Halli status. Is she down and dieing or ?

Sorry, blondie is down and dying. Marcus, as for your message, she actually used a spell-like ability, and her and I apparently forgot her concentration check. So, you get an AoO.
Marcus: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Crit Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
Ok that is annoying. Your regular swing needs 1 more HP to kill her, and you missed your Crit Confirm by 1. I'm just gonna give it to you. Because of the things going on in my life this has taken way too long.
As Deandre uses her spell-like ability, Marcus sees an opening and strikes. He attacks her with an overhead swing, slashing down with all his might. The blow very nearly cleaves her from head to pelvis, and she slumps to the ground.
If you choose to interrogate the fallen, you will find that Deandre was trying to start her own little gang and wanted to target fresh Pathfinders for moneys.
When you arrive back at the Lodge to report your success, Ambrus Valsin is pleased that you completed all of your tasks with still plenty of time left. His joy, however, is quickly replaced by sorrow when he learns of your fallen comrade. He promise greater responsibility in the future, and that future missions will go beyond the unassailable walls of Absalom.
I need Society numbers, if they are not in your profile, and day job checks where applicable. I probably won't have time to finsih the Chronicle sheets tonight, but I will be able to finish them tomorrow evening for sure. Thanks for playing, and for your patience, future games will not be so slow.

Thanks for the game Krash, no day job for me. PFS ID is in profile, but here it is again: 24861-3
Derik is dead and Krash will report him as such. That means that he can never be played and that his PFS ID is not used any more (just the part after the "-"). All his posessions are gone (send to relatives or kept by society if you will)
If you are not done with his character concept you can easily introduce his brother to the society as a new character with his own PFS ID. That is a personal matter though and entirely up to you.
Liked playing with you all!
