It's a single door, not double doors. A little more than half of the door's mass remains intact, sort of leaning across the doorway. Broken fragments of said door lie on the floor, leaving holes and cracks here and there in the portal. It was through these openings that the creatures came. There's not enough room for anyone but Teo to get through the broken openings, but some heavy pushing could easily bust loose what's left of the door.

Unable to make the area more defensible, Finlogan stands vigil over the resting companions with his longbow ready.

You stop to rest, hoping that the creatures which ran away don't return with friends any time soon. Luckily, your hopes come true, and you are able to recuperate a bit. Short rest completed, roll HD in Discussion, and remember to add your CON bonus to each one.

Gwen and Naia can't help curiously examining their bizarrely deformed weapons as they sit and rest. Idly turning the items over in their hands for an hour, they come to a surprising conclusion: the weapons have absorbed a bit of magic. The maul and scimitar are now +1 weapons. Congrats on those two crits!

How would you like to proceed now?

"Is there anywhere else we haven't explored yet? We still need to find the source of the oncoming pox and stop it as soon as we can."

To clarify, the only path you haven't explored yet is through the broken door; the same place those creatures came from and retreated back to.

Finlogan replies to Teo, "I think the only path we haven't explored yet is through that broken door; the same place those creatures came from and retreated back to. So, that's where we going when we're ready."

Perhaps we should draw them out here, rather than trying to fight them as we attempt to clear the doorway. She is studying the collapsed doorway as she speaks.

engineering(perception): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 or +6 for investigation, if that is more applicable. I don't think there's an "engineering" skill any more...

Wraith moves up to the broken door and examines it, determining that it would be a simple matter to break down what's left of it and gain entrance to the next room. More than that, she notices that there are no creatures visible in the next room.

The room beyond the broken door is a large, octagon-shaped chamber. One of the eight walls contains this doorway, while each of the other seven bears a large circle full of runes and sigils engraved in the stone. Much like the rest of this underground complex, large structural cracks stretch across the chamber, splitting most of the walls, ceiling and floor. Very nearly every inch of stone surface in the entire room has been "cubed", as well. However, there is one wall-circle that has not been disrupted by cracks, and the area within it is suspiciously free of "cubic-ness".

Finlogan examines the room and nods at Teo's observation, "Well, I think the creatures are using that normal area as a portal. Everywhere they touch changes the surface, leaving one area where the blobs don't actually touch. If we go through that portal, we need to prepare to face more blobs. Besides, there doesn't appear to be any other way out of here."

Examining the unbroken portal more closely, you see that the surface of the stone seems to shimmer like ripples on a pond when you get close to it.

Arcana DC 10:

All of these circles definitely have to do with teleportation, though you can't really tell more than that due to how archaic and foreign the markings are.

Naia Tam wrote:

No. You came in through the ceiling of a central chamber, with three exits. One was completely collapsed/blocked, one led to the room with the broken summoning/containment circle, and the third was the broken door that led to this octagonal room you're in now.

Also, Fin has the right question: leave the way you came and hope it's safe outside now (and then go wherever after that), or pursue the blobs' presumed path through the seemingly teleportation-related wall-circle. What'll it be?

Teo casts a vote for pressing on and trying the teleportation circle.

Naia shakes her head, then stares at the wall, and juts her chin toward it by way of indicating it.

"Let us not go through that fell portal. Here we fought a number, and it costs us blood. Go to their plane? Their reality, and their...geometry? Where they may exist in multitude? [here shakes head again] I fear we will unleash something unto our world that has so far been, at least somewhat, in check."

Naia's player votes for rushing headlong into the portal. Alas, Naia disagrees with her player.

After a bit of discussion, you decide that following your quarry is the best route to achieving your original objective, and push against the portion of the wall within the circle. The wall yields with almost no resistance, and you step through.

You find yourself then stepping out of a wall, onto another stone floor in a large chamber. Judging from the structural cracks revealing dirt overhead, you would guess that you are still ("again"?) underground. The scenery is much the same as it was on the first side of the portal: stone surfaces, largely affected by the cubism to which you're rapidly becoming accustomed.

This chamber probably used to be rather large. It's very wide, nearly 40 feet from left to right (with the portal in the center of the wall). You can only guess how deep it used to extend, however, as a massive cave-in has resulted in a wall of rubble and earth only about 15ft ahead of you, spanning the entire width of the room, sloping up and away toward the ceiling, some 20ft high.

Near the far-left portion of the room, a trail of cubic stone leads up the rubble slope, and a hole can be seen in the ceiling. The hole is lined with cubic stone, much resembling the tunnel by which you first entered the underground chambers on the other side of the portal.

Interestingly, the creatures which retreated from your battle an hour ago are nowhere to be found.

How would you like to proceed?

Teo nods silently. She was ready to see what else there was to encounter down there.

Gwen tosses a pebble toward the portal, and sure enough, it vanishes into the surface of the wall, sending out circular ripples like a disturbed pond.

Approaching the hole in the ceiling, you walk-climb up the slope of rubble, eventually crouching beneath the ceiling as you draw near. Much like the hole by which you first went underground, this hole is only wide enough to travel single-file, and rises at an angle for a while before beginning to twist and turn.

If you're going to climb in, I'll need an order. Otherwise, let me know what else you'd rather do instead.

Waiting for one of the front line types to take the lead. Teo isn't built for that!

You begin the awkward scramble up the mostly-vertical tunnel, with Finlogan in the lead, followed by Wraith, Gwenifer, Teo and Naia. Teo sends magical light ahead to assist the climb, and you spend a few minutes slowly working your way up through the cubed earth.

Much like the previous tunnel, this one twists and turns, making your vertical progress much slower than your actual travel pace. Eventually, the tunnel finally terminates, opening horizontally into what seems to be a natural cavern.

The ceiling is low (a hair under five feet), but rises slightly as it moves away from you, eventually reaching a height of about eight feet at its peak, about 40ft ahead of you, at the edge of your light. An underground pond of some sort sits stagnant in the cavern, fed by water dripping from overhead, with its near edge about 25ft ahead of you. Fin's darkvision can barely make out the far bank, meaning it's likely about 60ft ahead. Beyond that, the cavern extends unseen into the darkness.

From left to right, the cavern is about 45ft wide, and the pond's surface makes contact with the stone at either side of the chamber. Also, nearly every inch of the stone surfaces in this cavern are marred with the cubic deformation.

Fin Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Wraith Perception (DIS+7): 2d20 ⇒ (6, 18) = 24 = 13
The rest of you are around a bend in the tunnel and can't see into the room yet.

Just as Finlogan has climbed out of the tunnel, he and Wraith see a disturbance in the water, suggesting the movement of a creature underneath, moving toward you!

Finlogan: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Gwenifer: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Naia: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Teo: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Wraith: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Enemy1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Enemy2: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18

Okay, so here's the setup: Fin is out of the tunnel, but is cramped by the low ceiling, which will give him disadvantage on attacks and DEX saves. He would need to move at least 15ft forward (toward the water) to be clear of that. Everyone else is still in the tunnel. Wraith is at the mouth, able to easily get out when it's her turn. Everyone else will need to do some climbing to get out: 5ft per person behind Wraith you are. No checks needed, but climbing does cost double movement. While in the tunnel, you have disadvantage on basically everything that involves your body, and the two people in back can't see into the room anyway.

Fin and Wraith are the only ones who get to act in the surprise round, but Wraith rolled after at least one monster in initiative, so right now it's just Finlogan that can post an action.

Alright, per his post about a family vacation in Discussion, I'll bot Finlogan for this round.

Unsure what might be about to emerge from the cavern pool, Fin moves clear of the tunnel and takes a defensive posture. Moving about 10ft away from the tunnel and to the side, and taking the Dodge action.

The brackish water of the pool splashes violently as a massive, black blob emerges! Unlike the ones you fought before, this one is roughly ten feet across, and it roll-slithers toward Finlogan before launching slimy tendrils out of its mass at him!

Tendril (DIS+5): 2d20 ⇒ (14, 17) = 31 = 19 Acid damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
DEX save DC 12: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Despite his attempt at evasion, Fin is struck by the black tendrils, which burn his flesh. Even so, he manages to wriggle free as they try to wrap around him.

Naia and Wraith, you're up!

Do I get to attack, or do I expend all my action double moving?

30ft of movement gets you just out of the tunnel, so you'd need the Dash action (basically a double-move) to advance from there to the Big Blob.

Naia scrambles past her companions to exit the tunnel and engages the massive blob!

Wraith seems to be MIA...? I'll bot her for now.

Wraith emerges from the tunnel, moves the opposite direction from the melee, and fires an arrow at the creature!

Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24, Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

According to D&D5e wiki, that's what the spell description says. I don't have the hardback book around me right now, so I can't swear if that's what it says or not.

Just checked, and neither the wiki nor the PHB mention an attack roll. It's just the save. Also, you can target up to two creatures, if they're within 5ft of each other, so you could get the two small blobs by Naia, or the big blob plus either the blob on Fin or one of the blobs on Naia. Or you could only target the blob by Wraith. What's your target?

If Gwenifer can reach a blob in one movement she'll move and attack. Otherwise double move.

Gwenifer wades through the water and swings her greatsword at the nearest opponent. Who knows, maybe she'll get another crit. =)

Greatsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 = 9

Gwen steps out and tries to help Wraith, but fails to land a hit on the little blob!

Okay, so we've got the big blob (10 damage) engaging Fin and Naia. Also engaging Fin is a small blob (4 damage). Also engaging Naia are two small blobs (unhurt). Several feet away from that tangled mess, Wraith and Gwen are engaged with a single small blob (unhurt).

Fin's turn.

Okay, per Fin's vacation, I'll bot him this round again. I want to leave him a little time each round just in case he happens to be on, but also want to keep things moving.

Finlogan takes a couple of hits, and Naia is put to the ground!

Fin then retaliates, ending his smaller attacker with his first strike and further wounding the big one with the second!

Gwen and Teo, you're up!

Order:
Big blob (29)
Naia
Small blob by Naia (0)
Gwen/Teo/Fin

Half-Elf Rogue 1 | HP 16/16 | AC 16 | Fort +3, Ref +8, Will +6 | Perception +6

Gwenifer continues to attack the same blob.

Greatsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9
Reroll 1s: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Total Damage = 10

"Stay away from them! Over here, snot balls!"

I'm guessing "the same" means "the same one everyone else is focusing on"?

Gwen tears into the huge blob, further injuring it!

Teo, you're up!

Half-Elf Rogue 1 | HP 16/16 | AC 16 | Fort +3, Ref +8, Will +6 | Perception +6

I'm not sure which one I'm attacking. The big one is fine.

Female Halfling Copper Draconic Sorcerer 4 | HP 27/30| AC 16 | Saves: Str+0, Dex+3, Con+4, Int+0, Wis+0, Cha+6 | PasPercpt10 | Skills: Arcana+2, Deception+6, Persuasion+6, SleightofHand+5 | Init.+3 | SpellAttack+6 | SpellSave14

Teo fires another Acid Splash at the big blob, hoping she can at least help drive it off.

Dexterity save or take 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage.

DEX: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6

Teo mildly irritates the bigger blob!

The big blob then turns its attention to the woman who just put a greatsword through it!

Tendrils vs Gwen: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19, Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
DEX DC 12: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
The caustic tendrils strike at Gwen painfully, but she manages to pull away before they can grab hold of her!

Naia needs a death save.

The remaining smaller blob then lashes out at Finlogan!
Tendril: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16, Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Tendril: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24, Damage (with crit): 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4
Neat, I finally get to show what happens when you take a crit from one of these instead of dealing crits to them.
Fin takes two hits, the second of which tears into his leg. The flesh by the wound begins to ripple and twist as though it's trying to shape itself into cubes, wracking Finlogan with pain and impeding his use of his leg. Half speed, and any d20 roll that would significantly involve your leg (swimming, climbing, diving out of the way of something, kicking, etc) is at disadvantage.

Gwen, Teo and Fin can act again, and we're pending 1 death save from Naia.

Order:

Small blob (0)
