With a screech that echoes through the trees, a large eagle with brilliant gold and white feathers appears in answer to Cerin's summons. He points to the goblin singing on the rock and the mighty bird of prey swoops down to tear at the goblin's face with its razor-sharp beak.

Cerin continues his charge towards the coach as he draws his scimitar. Sparks shoot from his eyes in anger as he plans to make these little monsters pay for their misdeeds.

Cerin: Your summoned creature appears at the start of your action, and does not take an action on your part. I'm not exactly sure where you started, but you can double-move and attack by using the Charge maneuver.

Really? The critical does less than the non critical? Talk about a waste of a crit...

Your humble narrator

Kyrian: Next time, just roll normal damage for the critical threat confirmation, and I'll add them if it confirms. In this particular case, I can safely assume that you rolled a '1' on the critical hit damage, for 3 points; total damage = 10.

Helena breaks off the arrow in her shoulder with a wince, feeling blood running down her back. Ignoring the pain, she steps up to Gwyn, just in time to feel the heat as the elf's spell sets the very air around her ablaze. "I'll do something about your pain soon," she calls over the roaring flames. "Do you see any more of them?" She rests a hand on her own chest, feeling a cool breeze pick up around her for a brief moment, a shimmering glow springing up around her pale form.

Casting protection from evil on myself, getting +2 to AC vs. these goblins (assuming they actually are evil).
Hoping Gwyn can point me at the bad guys :P

AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!! I went to edit this post to put a strikethrough tag on Halvor's actions, and the board ate the whole post! This was just after the board ate my post about what the goblins were going to do in Round 4! This was a total waste of an hour!

I will need to reset the map for the end of Round 3 and we'll need to do a full do-over.

This is SO FRUSTRATING!!!

If I could double-move towards the singer instead, if they are on ground level, that would be great.

Your humble narrator

Map is re-set for the middle of Round 3. I'll have to re-do the Round 3 summary and the goblin's actions for Round 4 later tonight. Sorry!

Quick recap of some notes about the battle that got eaten... The goblin archers are about ten feet up in the trees. The fallen log counts as difficult terrain. The goblin warchanter is standing on a boulder that's about four feet tall.

Gwyn gives Helena a pained smile.

"Don't worry 'bout me, I'll live," she says as she makes her way around the carriage.

Fluff meanwhile lands on Helena's shoulder.

"Gwyn's overdoing it again, isn't she," the thrush says with a sigh and waves a wing towards the burning.

"Anyway, there's another group coming from the east. They've killed some of the goblins. There's that one goblin that Gwyn lit on fire to the southwest about a hundred feet away. Another archer goblin sits in a tree to the south of the carriage over there, and there's a goblin screeching or something over on a rock to the southeast of the carriage, and..."

*FWOOSH*

Flame Jet (DC 14 for half and to avoid being set on fire.): 1d6 ⇒ 1 Really...

"And Gwyn's busy burning the forest down," Fluff finishes with a tone of resignation, "Flame-happy elf! She's burning all the seeds and the grubs," she cries.

Meanwhile, Gwyn continues to sing her song as she looses another gout of flame.

Round 3 summary

The goblin rider who suddenly finds himself face-to-face with a heavily-armed longshanks struggles to control his mount, and fails to block Kyrian's strike. Kyrian sticks the goblin in the gut with his sword. The goblin clutches his wound with one hand, but raises his blade with the other.

Halvor rushes over to the singing goblin that's standing on the boulder, but can't quite get a strike in.

Unable to see her enemies, Helena calls to the spirits of life for aid, and they answer her call with a protective aura.

Shalelu draws her bow and fires, but trips over the body of a fallen goblin, and the shot is wild. "Sakra!" she mutters.

Elvish:
"Damn it!"

Gwyn casts a spell and jets of flame explode from her outstretched hands, immolating the goblin in the tree... and the tree itself! Several of the branches burst into flame around the goblin archer. At the same time, the other goblin archers are impressed with the pyrotechnics. One claps, and the other says, "Oooohh!"

Cerin completes his prayer to Gozreh, and the Wind and the Waves answers his call. An eagle swoops from the sky, seemingly from nowhere, and attacks the singing goblin. However, the goblin easly ducks out of the way.

As the fight progresses, the remaining Heroes of Sandpoint become aware that a pair of combatants are also fighting the goblins on the other side of the halted coach. The sound of a woman's beautiful voice with an ever-so-slight Elvish accent sings a parody of a goblin song that's rather funny, but it doesn't seem to phase the goblins. Likewise, the duo from Magnimar now realizes that another group of combatants is fighting the goblins from the other side.

The goblin singer doubles-down on his song:

"Fiery potion goblin throws!
Much more fun than shooting bows!
Longshanks burn in goblin fire!
Then they die and sink in mire!"

The goblin then pulls out what looks like a dried gourd from a pouch, and throws it at Halvor. The warrior raises his shield to block the thrown object, and the gourd smashes open, exploding in fire. Halvor is engulfed in a splash of burning, sticky goo that smells of pine pitch, alcohol, and dung. Halvor: Take 2 hp fire damage

The rider fighting Kyrian regains control of his mount and slashes Kyrian viciously across his left arm. Blood gushes from the wound. The rider also coaxes its disgusting rat-like dog to snap at Kyrian with its rodent-like teeth, but Kyrian dodges. Take 6 hp damage.

Goblin archers fire at Helena and Halvor, but the shots are wild and don't come close.

The archer in the burning tree drops to the ground, seemingly landing very hard. He then rolls to Gwyn' right into some heavy underbrush, and seemingly disappears!

The mountless rider rolls on the ground and pats at the flames to extinguish her burning clothes.

The majestic eagle slashes at the goblin singer's oversized head with its talons before latching on and trying to peck out an eye. With a final screech, it then vanishes in a puff of vapor and a peal of thunder.

Cerin runs around the log and looks for a target. The elven woman seems to have the goblins on the run, but she is a bit too... enthusiastic. He calls out "Careful! We don't want to burn down the whole forest, do we?"

Spying a goblin archer in a tree near him, he points his sword and calls down the storm to drench and deafen him.

Helena starts when Fluff alights on her shoulder, turning her head to face the small bird and taking in her directions. "At least we have help if there's that many of them. How high up are the ones in the trees?" As she talks, she heads towards the goblin south of the carriage, hoping she's going the right direction. As she walks, motes of green light draw from the ground, joining the shimmering shield around her.

As I have a reach weapon, would it be possible for me to reach the goblins in the trees?
Also, I'm posting from my tablet and can't edit the map. If someone could move me 40 feet closer to the goblin, that would be great.

As the goblin song-leader throws the gourd full of goblin-made alchemist's fire, Cerin's summoned eagle dive-bombs him. However, the nimble warchanter dodges the attack.

Continuing to fight the goblin rider, Kyrian parries a series of blows, then grazes him on the riposte.

The door to the coach opens, and a dark-haired elven man in official-looking robes leans out, points a hand crossbow at the goblin archer in the tree, and pulls the trigger. A small bolt hits the goblin, and it yowls in pain. "I hate goblins," says the man in a bored tone.

Halvor presses the advantage while the goblin singer is off-balance from the eagle's attack, and lunges, stabbing the singer squarely in the gut. It cries in pain and mutters something in goblin that sure doesn't sound like a compliment, but it manages to keep singing as blood begins to flow from the wound.

With guidance from Fluff, Helena closes to the nearby goblin archer, and thrusts her longspear at the tree-bound menace, jabbing it in the left leg.

Crouching to take cover from the archer on the south side of the road, Shalelu returns fire, hitting it in the chest. "Oof!"

Trying hard to suppress a giggle, Gwyn summons more elemental energies and lets loose another gout of fire at the goblin archer that had just been hit by the elf's quarrel. The goblin is engulfed with flame and its clothes catch fire... as do several branches of the tree.

Cerin's summoned eagle swoops down on the now-struggling singer. It slashes the goblin in the face with its talons, and then tears at its throat with its beak. Bleeding profusely from several wounds, the singer goes silent, collapses, and rolls off the boulder into the weeds below.

Cerin then calls upon Gozreh's might and summons a tiny stormcloud to buffet the burning goblin. Howver, the goblin is now flailing about so erratically, that he is tough to pin down.

Seemingly ignored by these longshanks, the thrown goblin rider has put out the flames on her burning cloak, and draws her bow, firing on the wicked elf that had set her on fire. The arrow grazes the elven woman's shoulder. Gwyn: take 1 hp

The goblin rider fighting Kyrian pulls a fancy riding trick, causing his mount to rear and kick, then fake backwards. Unprepared, Kyrian can't take advantage of positioning as the rider bolts toward the commotion, then wheels, raising his dogslicer menacingly. Successful Ride check prevented an AOO when he moved out.

The burning archer suddenly jumps out of the tree, lands into a roll and evades Helena's attempt to skewer him. Avoids damage from the fall and then evades an AOO with two successful Acrobatics checks

The other archer that had jumped out of the tree makes herself known as she leaps from the underbrush, stabbing an unaware Gwyn in the back! The pain and loss of blood causes her to black out and collapse! Successful Sneak Attack: Gwyn, take 7 hp. You're currently at (-3) hp and dying.

The well-dressed elf in the coach reloads his hand crossbow and fires at the goblin that had just stabbed Gwyn in the back. The bolt flies true, hitting the little creep in the shoulder.

Halvor scrambles over the fallen log that's slippery with moss, rushing over to the fallen woman's side.

Seeing her friend go down, the silver-haired woman shouts in alarm and rushes to her side. She calls to the spirits of life, and faint rays of yellow energy emanate from the plants and earth around the fallen woman. The elf's wonds stop bleeding and begin to heal, and her eyes snap open.

While Cerin focuses on the goblin that had dropped the elf woman, the thrown rider takes advantage of his distraction, and shoots him with an arrow. Cerin: Take 5 hp piercing damage.

The other rider presses his attack against Kyrian while the young man is slightly off-balance from his charge. Kyrian parries a thrust, but the goblin wheels and slashes the half-elf across the chest. At that, its ratlike mount snarls and snaps at Kyrian's arm, catching it in its rodent-like teeth. It shakes its head, ripping a terrible gash. Blood pours from both wounds, and Kyrian blacks out, collapsing to the ground. Kyrian, take 5 hp from the dogslicer and another 7 from the bite. You're at -3 hp, unconscious, and dying. I've marked your token with a yellow cross. The goblin shouts in triumph and raises its dogslicer over its head. In a singsong, taunting voice, it cries in Taldane, "I killed a longshanks! I killed a longshanks!" The other goblins cheer.

The goblin that Gyn lit on fire earlier had run behind a boulder. From behind that boulder, you hear a goblin scream of pain and see an increasing amount of smoke.

The goblin fighting Cerin cuts him across the arm with his dogslicer. Cerin: take 3 hp slashing damage

The remaining archer exchanges fire with Shalelu, but the arrow hits the fallen log.

Then to her dismay, the gathering flames fizzle.

"Well, this sucks," she says through gritted teeth.

Fluff flits down and lands on the elf's forehead.

Upon hearing the grunt of pain, then the goblin's cry of victory, Cerin's head snaps around. "Halvor, help Kyrian! I've got this one!" This, unfortunately, allows his foe to get in a blow past his defenses.

The man in the coach fires at the goblin, hiting him in the chest. At the same moment, Halvor jabs the goblin in guts with his ranseur, spilling its entrails. It's still nimble enough to dodge Helena's spear, and it manages a chuckle at Gwyn's botched attempt at more fire magic while on the ground. As the goblin fumbles to hold in its intestines, Cerin slashes it across the back with his scimitar, and it falls.

Meanwhile, Shalelu turns to see Kyrian fall, and lets off an arrow at the rider, which goes wild. Keeping her bow in her left hand, she moves to defend her fallen ally, drawing her shortsword.

The goblin rider rears his ratlike mount and retreats from Shalelu. She attempts to stab the rider as he backs away, but is stymied by his trick riding. The rider then rides into the woods, then wheels and faces the elven ranger again.

The other goblin that had been in the tree shooting at Shalelu is... um... Hey! Where did he go?!

You also all notice that the three fires the elven mage had inadvertently set seem to be spreading in the dry autumn vegetation.

Cerin and Helena only:
You spot him in the undergrowth just west of the tree he'd been hiding in.

Your turn!

Cerin turns around, searching for the last foe. "Halvor! He's hiding over there, in the Bush!" he calls out, pointing once he spots him.

With a quick smile he says apologetically, "If you would excuse me, m'ladys, I should take care of this before it gets too out of control." before turning back to the large tree and summoning a small rainstorm to try to put out the biggest fire.

I don't know if this would work, using his Stormburst to put out the fires? I guess I will just make an attack roll to see how well he targets the tree, if you need it.

Gwyn is clumsy getting up once the goblin is dispatched. She favors her right side and her legs are visibly shaking.

"Gwyn shouldn't you be staying still," Fluff asks as she lands on the elf's shoulder.

"What? And miss all the fun," Gwyn replies back with a smile that's more of a grimace.

"Okay, that isn't following anyone" she admits before turning to her friend, grimacing in pain, "Helena, can you knock me out or make it hurt less? I feel like I'm gonna puke it hurts so much," Gwyn gets out through gritted teeth. From the looks of it, a stiff breeze could probably knock her out.

Meanwhile, her hand goes to her dagger. It would a long throw, but she might be able to hit a goblin. Might.

Move to get up and a move to grab a dagger.

Fighting fires: If you don't have magic, you can attempt to beat out flames with a cloak. Full-round action, CMB vs. CMD 15. Success means you put out a 5-foot section. Miss by 5 or less means you prevent that section from spreading. You can substitute a Know (nature) for your CMB. Create water automatically puts out one 5-foot section of flames. Other magic may work as well.

The remaining goblin rider who'd been thrown from her mount draws her bow and points it at Cerin, but suddenly seems to notice that she can't see any other goblins that aren't lying on the ground bleeding.

"Grub-blub! Na-na grubble jib-jub!"

The goblin then turns and runs into the woods, making remarkably little noise!

Halvor rushes over to the tree in which the last goblin archer was firing from, but as he closes, he realizes that the little freak is gone. He holds his position, threatening with his ranseur.

From inside the carriage, you all hear the click of a hand crossbow being cocked. In a dry, haughty voice, the well-dressed elf remarks, "You might want to do something about those fires."

Seemingly taking the elf's advice, Cerin and Helena use magic to douse the flames, quenching some of them. Gwyn gets to her feet.

Shalelu fires more arrows at the remaining goblin rider, hitting him twice mid-shout. With an expression of honest surprise, he looks down at the two arrows protruding from his chest, and tries to say something. Blood pours from his mouth, and he falls from the saddle. His mount then bounds into the woods.

Shalelu then kneels beside the unconscious Kyrian.

Deciding that fighting the fire is more important than trying to catch a fleeing goblin that doesn't want to be found, you combine your efforts against the flames. About five minutes later, you have extinguished the blaze and stamped out the embers.

The elf in the coach gets out to examine the fallen coachmen. "If any of you know anything about healing, this man is still alive! The other one... not so much."

"Look, I said I was sorry! I was more worried about the goblins at the time," Gwyn says five minutes for the tenth time after the fight had ended. As it turns out, raising her voice isn't the wisest idea and the elf finds herself doubled over in pain.

"Gwyn, you need to think before you act. What if we hadn't been able to put out the fire? What then? Just because you are a wizard, a very smart wizard, doesn't mean you know everything," Fluff replies back, her feathers fluffed out in irritation.

Leaning against one of the carriage's wheels, Gwyn sighs, letting all of the bluster out. Fatigue from blood-loss causes her eyes to drop.

"You're right, and I'm sorry I yelled at you, Fluff. Now, how do you think we're getting to Sandpoint? I don't think I could ride any horse, much less Rex at this point."

The horse in question appears from around the bend, looking down his nose at the carnage imperiously. He nudges one of the goblin corpses with a hoof before nodding his head and snorting in satisfaction.

"Maybe Mr. High and Mighty will let you ride in his carriage," Fluff suggests.

"No if you keep calling him that he won't," Gwyn sighs.
