Ralof from Round 4

Ralof tries to place a few arrows into the creature, but the soft cover from Dylan/Amendithas proves to be too difficult to navigate and the shots miss their target.

Rest of Round 4 (after creature)
Ryder pulls out a wand and expertly places a minimal amount of damage on one of the creatures tentacle eyes.

Dylan manages to get a defensive cast off for the 3rd round in a row healing Amendithas up a little.

Round 5 Begins
Ralof, delays his action, sensing the end is near.. Because.. Killshot!

Amendithas Prays to an unknown deity to help guide his sword.... (upon speaking the request, Amendithas finds his mind filled with visions of Gorum, the god of battle. A voice in his head speaks, "Your spirit is that of a warrior, Allow me guide you in battle")... Suddenly Amendithas finds himself hitting the creature with near deadly accuracy.

Ralof, releases his delayed action to loose two arrows... The second piercing the back of the monsters throat, dropping him into the sewer below.

-----

Still a potential move left here that can be made so I will leave the rounds counting.

Ralof, sizes up his opponent one more time, loosing two arrows... The second piercing the back of the monsters throat.

Amendithas Prays to an unknown deity to help guide his sword.... (upon speaking the request, Amendithas finds his mind filled with visions of Desna, the goddess of freedom and luck. A voice in his head speaks, "You're certainly an unlucky fellow, Allow me guide you in battle")... Suddenly Amendithas finds himself hitting the creature with near deadly accuracy. Dylan will attempt to jump down to give aid to the fallen men after he puts his shield away.

Dylan then tries to aid the men by pulling them free and giving aid.

Time to see if Desna is the one active here:

After moving the creapture, you are able to find one of the men, still alive, but unconscious. The other is bleeding profusely.

Dylan looks around after pulling the the men out from under the monster.

Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

The survivor is injured but alive, the unlucky one is beyond your aid. The survivor is of course, covered in sewer filth.

You look around, but in the darkness, the sewer just looks like any other.

Dylan will get out his sword and activate light onto the sword and look around to see if there is any easy way to get up. (Taking 20 with the aid of light to give Amendithas a chance to recover from his rage.)

If he does not find anything Dylan yells "Hey lower down a rope to get these two bodies up to street level and myself." Dylan doesn't want to leave the dead body behind. He would like to find this persons family if time permits and tell them of the events.

Upon taking your time with light cast, you do notice that while most of the sewer flows relatively smoothly, one particular location dips more than usual. At this spot, the sewer water is deeper. You also notice that some of the sewer filth has plastered the walls in this location.. In fact, it plasters the wall from that point to the point where the creature burst through the street.

It seems as if the creature may have come from this location. If you want to examine it further you'd have to get closer to the area.

Once Dylan has helped get the men back to the streets with the help of Amendithas pulling them up with ropes, Dylan tells the others he is going to investigate where the creature came from while he still has the light of the sword.

Dylan advances on the area where it looks like the creature came from to get a closer look.

Dylan will also cast cure light wounds on himself before he gets to close.

CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

You realized something is up with the area, so you carefully examine the area. There is a drop-off in the deeper area. If you poke around you find that the drop-off leads perpendicular to the sewer flow towards the N/NE. It would seem that wherever this underwater tunnel leads to may be where the creature came from.

You would have to do a little swimming in order to see where it leads.

With that, Ryder turns and runs to catch up with Trinia and the guard.

Dylan,

Amendithas is nearly full again (35/37) and the survivor is healed up where he is up and conscious again.

When he comes to, he is profuse in his thanks towards you all, and saddened by the loss of his friend. He says he doesn't feel so good and plans on going home to lay down for a while.

-----

Ryder,

If you flat out run, you can catch up to the guard and Trinia in about a minute. Assuming you're going to help escort her the rest of the way, you will make it to the Citidel to find it essentially cleared out. The guard at the door mentioned an Otyugh uprising, to wit the guard escorting Trinia, says he's aware of the threat, and that Ryder and his companions have already defeated one of the beasts. The doorman mentions to the other guard that he is needed in midland when he has finished placing Trinia in her cell.

The doorman also mentions to Ryder that Cressida herself is assisting in quelling the Otyugh threat, and that she will return when she can.

Dylan replies "Your welcome, I am just sorry my sword did not get to taste its blood for the bite it took out of me. If I did not have to use one of my spells on the girl to catch her, it would have been the perfect spell to use on the creature. All is well, that ends well I suppose. If your still hurting before we all go to sleep tonight I will try to heal you some more."

So I take it you don't feel like taking a gross swim to see whats on the other end of the tunnel? Can't say I would either.

Depending on the pace you wish to set, you make it back to the Citadel 5-10mins after Ryder made it. The doorman winces at the smell of Dylan and Amendithas, as they stroll inside.

Trinia has been locked away in her cell with a guard on duty.

The doorman kindly hints.. "Field Marshall Kroft could be a while, if there's anything you want to... take care of.." he waves his hand in front of his face... "....before she gets back, you could certainly do so."

Ryder will remain with Trinia at her cell until Cressida arrives. He wants to be sure that a zealous member of the guard won't harm Trinia.

As you enter the cell chambers, there is a special section off of the main cells that Trinia has been placed. As you turn the corner to the cell doors, you do indeed see Trinia sitting there in the cell. You also find that your clothes revert back to their original form as your Sleeves of Many Garments seem to no longer be functioning.

This catches both the guard, and Trinia off-guard a little, but they soon realize it's nothing to worry about. In fact, Trinia chuckles a bit at your "new look".

The guard seems intent on his duty, and not interested in her in the least.

Regarding the the anti-magic field:

Kn Arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Kn Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

You don't know the effect from your Arcana roll, and spellcraft is used to identify spells as they're cast, but...

Kn Local: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 2 = 13 (+2 circumstance for having been part of this facility for a while)

Your local knowledge is enough to know that they sometimes place known spell-casters inside anti-magic cells to prevent escape through magical means.

Dylan will indeed get cleaned up and then head to find Ryder

Just a rough estimate, but to get back to the INN, draw a bath, clean your armor and get back to the Citadel will take roughly 2 hours. I'll assume Amendithas will also be doing this, but nobody has to.

In that time, Cressida and a whole gang of guardsmen will have returned from quelling the threat. She immediately checks on Trinia. Upon seeing Ryder, she says, "Thank you, Ryder. I was afraid you would not be able to reach her before the mob did." She turns to Trinia, "Something is definitely wrong here, I swear to you that I will discover the truth about what happened. You have my word, Trinia."

Her words comfort Trinia only slightly as she continues to have a somber look upon her face.

Cressida says to Ryder, "If you'll excuse me, I need to get cleaned up. Those disgusting Otyughs can sure make quite a mess. If you could all meet me in my office in about an hour we can discuss your reward for her safe capture."

She leaves to, presumably, go take a bath.

*Edit - Dylan and Amendithas will return in time to catch the meeting. Ralof, could be at the citadel already or whatever he wished to do in the meantime.

Before going to get cleaned up Dylan would have given the address of where the creature came out of the sewers and told them of the civilian that lost his life to the creature. He would have asked the guards to send a wagon to recover the body and identify the individual, notifying next of kin.

The guard at the door calls over a page to setup a wagon to go retrieve the body. I'm assuming you would have gotten his name from the friend before he left.

---

You all meet up at Cressida's office. She comes in, without her usual armor, as it's presumably being cleaned for her right now.

"I'm sorry for the delay. Things have been hectic around here. We had to put many of the Otyughs down, but we were able to reason with the rest of them to retreat to their underground lairs. Disgusting creatures, but necessary for the cities sanitation efforts." She tugs on her ear as if to release water from the canal.

"Back to Trinia." She fumbles around for some more reward money. "It's unfortunate that my friend is on leave and not in Korvosa. He has the magical means necessary to question her under a zone of truth. I'll need to go to other sources to see if I can find another trustworthy interrogator." She hands you a pouch. "I just hope that I can find one before word gets out that she's being held here."

"Your reward... There's a bit extra in there for you. You went above and beyond by saving those citizens from the Otyugh" She smiles, "You've earned it."

"I'll find you again, if I need you." She politely dismisses you from her office.

---

If you have questions of her, you can certainly ask them...

When you leave the office, you will find the pouch contains a reward of 400pp (4,000gold)

Dylan replies " I do know the spell, I would not be able to cast it until morning though. If the individual is mentally tough the can resist the spell. An experienced cleric would make resisting the spell harder and they will know they are in the zone and may not speak. I think Trinia wants to prove her innocence so she will talk. She is not that tough mentally, I was able to hold her in place to catch her. "

Cressida responds,"I appreciate the help. I would prefer additional and more experienced clerics to assist with the task. It is common practice to interrogate subjects using overlapping zones of truth to increase its effectiveness. I will arrange for the interrogation to take place tomorrow morning then."

"Yes, despite their confessions Veriks men were sentenced to death by the Korvosan courts. Their executions are set for the end of the month."

"Verik was tried and convicted of desertion. He has already been sent to the labor camps in the Mindspin Mountains near Crystalrock. He got off light. I was sure he was going to suffer the same fate as his men."

I want to be sure everyone has ample time to get what they want from any merchants before I continue. I'll use hangouts to verify when everyone is ready.

So you all go and purchase everything you need, even spelling Ryder as he purchases some scrolls. the majority of you go sleep at the INN while Ryder is preparing to hunker down on a hard bench near Trinia. There is some small talk, but nothing too in depth between the two.

Just as Ryder begins setting up a makeshift bed, he hears some muffled voices and some footsteps off in the distance. They get louder and louder as they approach. As the footsteps and voices draw near, it is clear that there is a heated argument going on. As they approach, you realize that you have heard these voices before. One voice is that of Cressida. She is having a spirited argument with another whom you have met before, Sabina, the queens handmaiden and personal bodyguard....

You have a moment or two to act before they get to you. Do you wish to do anything?

Per Hangouts, Ryder will draw his crossbow (not loaded) and step out of the AMZ.

The sounds get closer, "You don't have to do this, Sabina. You know as well as I, that something isn't right here. You don't release a suspects name to the public until after you have them in custody."

Sabina Replies, "The Queen is inexperienced. In time, she will learn to consult the council before making a brash decision like this. It is not our place to question her."

Last chance to do anything before they round a corner into your hallway

What you do will most likely not inhibit what happens next..

Both Cressida and Sabina round the corner with two of the royal guards. They head down the hallway towards you.

Cressida counters, "Please, just give me 12 hours, I have clerics coming in to assist me in discovering the truth. By Pelor! She cannot even face her accuser after his suicide! Please, I beg you, give me some more time."

Sabina responds, "It is not in my power to grant you time. The Queen demanded that she be brought to the castle to face interrogation immediately.... She will have her day in court."

Depends on what you did in the time-point above, or what you plan to do now that they are basically right next to you as to how I'll proceed.

Ryder will take no action until they approach him. He'll stand in the portal and inquire, "What's the meaning of this?!"

..."No!" Ryder protests,"You can't take her! She's not safe unless she remains here until she's interrogated!"

Assuming Sabina has none of that, and Ryder in no position to stop them (since Cressida herself can't), "...Then I'm going with her. I gave her my word that I'd ensure her safety until the truth could be found."

Startled by Ryders protest, Sabina soon realizes that she has met you before. "Ryder, was it? Listen, I have no patience for insubordinate behavior."

Cressida quickly jumps in, "Ryder is just following my orders, Sabina. He is to ensure no harm comes to her." Sabina nods as Cressida continues.. "Please Ryder, stand down, the prisoner is in the hands of the Queens guard now."

Sabina responds to your final comment, "Very well, I admire your devotion to duty. The Queen was wise to assign you to the service of Korvosa. You can accompany us as far as the outer gates, but no further. I assure you, she will be interrogated, the truth will be revealed."

She motions to the two guards to gather trinia (with manacles and gag.. aka common protection against spellcaster prisoners)

Trinia screams as they bind and gag her.

"You should have told us you had her Cressida, I'm disappointed in you. It is out of my respect for you, that I will not mention this to Ileosa. I guarantee she would have no tolerance for this treachery"

Once Trinia is secure, she says "Let's Go." and heads for the doors, she does not care to see if Ryder follows or not.

Ryder waits just long enough to whisper some quick questions to Cressida without Sabina or her guards hearing...

"How did they know? If they are framing her, she's not safe in there, what are we going to do? Her accuser is dead?

I feel like the accuser being dead is news... If Ryder already knew that, disregard that question.

Ryder won't let Sabina get far without catching up. He'll say to Cressida before he leaves, "Send word to Dylan and the others that they're taking Trinia."

Cressida just looks at you with a confounded look on her face. "I don't know. She was my only remaining lead."

As you turn to catch up, she says, "I'll see to it personally"

----

Instead of turning directly towards the castle, Sabina and the two guards head south towards the Grey district. Assuming you ask Sabina why she isn't heading directly towards the Castle, she simply points up at the sky at a contingent of Sable Company Griffon Riders circling up above. "Their job is to watch the mob. Wherever they are, the mob is. The south passage of Piller Hill and Ramp Boulevard is the safest route."

Even that route isn't completely clear. Several citizens still roam the streets, but most give way to the well armed hand-maiden and her guards. Sabina and the guards move swiftly, even catching a young boy with a wheel-barrel full of trash off guard sending him crashing into the Grey districts fence. He quickly gets up and dusts himself off to continue his journey. You get the sense that Sabina means business.

...meanwhile...

At the inn, no less than a half hour after falling asleep, you hear rushed knocking on each of your doors. It is Cressida herself, winded from her sprint. She gathers you all in one of the rooms. Gathering her composure, she speaks in a low voice to keep the conversation quiet. "Sabina found out that I had Trinia, She is taking her to the castle as we speak. Ryder has gone with them and has requested your presence. From the direction they took, you will likely find them at the southwest entrance. But you must hurry, they have a head start."

Amendithas takes off at a slightly faster pace than Ralof and Dylan. With a bit of luck (barely), you are able to avoid the main mob and can push your way through any stragglers that left the main group.

Amendithas arrives before the rest of you, and the others arrive minutes later. Your presence at the gates has attracted extra attention from the guards inside. Several additional guards take up positions on the other side of the fence.

Additionally, near the top of the stairs, you see two heavily armored female soldiers dressed in armor you have never seen before. PICTURE

With a slight hand motion, Sabina lets the guards inside know to open the gates for her.

She says to the rest of the group what she said to Ryder, "You are not allowed inside, but thank you all for your concern for the prisoners safe transfer."

She begins to head inside with the Trinia and the guards....

Regarding the armored women:
Kn Local: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

I was thinking we might have met up somewhere away from the castle, so I didn't post any convo w/Sabina along the way. Ryder will try his hand at getting Sabina to let them in with Trinia...

"Please let us remain with Trinia while she awaits interrogation. We gave her our word we'd ensure her safety. We promise we won't be any trouble. You know this whole thing is wrong; I believe that Trinia is innocent, and she should have been left in safety at the Citadel and interrogated there tomorrow as planned."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

When Ryder is denied, he will 'storm of angrily' and will find a place out of sight to use an invisibility scroll on himself when the gate opens and will then move inside the open gates if possible.

Stealth: 1d20 + 2 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 2 + 20 = 32 (Invisibility)

If he actually gets in, I'll post what he does next...

You know nothing about the armored women

Sabina looks at you after your plea. "I'm sorry, but it's not up to me, but I assure you, we will determine her role in this."

And with that, she turns to enter the Castle gates.

Ryder, then Angrily storms off, quickly casts invisibility, then try's to follow behind before the gates close. The noise of the gates with the several noisy guards masks your own footsteps, as you immediately face a gauntlet of eyes.

Perception Guards: 10d20 ⇒ (7, 12, 5, 9, 8, 4, 17, 13, 20, 5) = 100 +0 for each
Perception Armored Ladies: 2d20 ⇒ (19, 8) = 27 +1 each -10 each for distance
Perception Sabina: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

It appears as if no-one has noticed you.

Well, you're in. You have about 3 minutes on that scroll correct? What's your plan?

Before Sabina goes in Dylan asks "We were allowed entrance in the past and we are not seeking an audience with the Queen. We just want to watch and even help with the interrogation. I mean no offence, I don't exactly trust the motives of the monarchy. They are usually not motivated by the well being of others. I would just feel better if we were permitted to help. I told her that as a cleric of Tulis, I will not let a innocent person be convicted of a crime they did not commit. I will not feel confident without being there to see what spell are used in the interrogation. Trina lives in the shingles district, I don't see her having the motive, means or opportunity from her station in life."

When you get to that last sentence, Sabina stops dead in her tracks. You can't see her face, but you get the sense that the comment angered her a little. She does, however allow you to finish...

She turns and takes a few steps, coming face to face, uncomfortably close.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36 Her presence is indeed quite intimidating.

"First, if you ever insult the Queen in front of me again, it will be the last thing you ever do... Consider this your only warning.

She composes herself a bit, "And, for someone concerned about getting to the truth, did you ever bother to find out her connection to Eodred?"

Whether you respond or not she continues, "You may remember the former Kings wonderful portrait the last time you graced these halls. Trinia had plenty of opportunity to poison the King, while painting it for him."

She resumes her task of escorting Trinia inside finishing the conversation with, "And, that's what I intend to find out."

The gates close behind her.

Three minutes indeed. Poor impulsive Ryder has himself in a pickle now...

Ryder steps inside the gate and moves to an out-of-the-way area where he can watch the procession. He thinks to himself, Now what, Ryder? He will follow Trinia, but keep some distance, stopping to improve his stealth if he suspects suspicion. He'll look for a place to hide along the way so that he can come out of invisibly and build a disguise.

As applicable...
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Stealth, moving: 1d20 + 2 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 20 = 35 (Invisible)
Stealth, still: 1d20 + 2 + 40 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 40 = 46 (Invisible)
Kn. Local: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

The Armored Women come down to meet Sabina at bottom of the stairs.. They relieve the normal guards and take hold of Trinia. They head to a side passage underneath the stairs.

In order to keep up with them, you will need to move faster than the 1/2 speed penalty free speed for normal stealth. Even so, Sabina isn't the most perceptive person in the world, and neither are her strange friends. You wont be noticed even with a take 10 stealth here.

If you recall, there are weapons sheds that could possibly be used as a location you could setup a disguise. However, if you choose to make a disguise now, you wont know where they took Trinia.
