When the tengu sees Luisila eyeing his uniform to dry her hands he shakes his head.
"Sister Luisila, that would not be a wise idea. Here, use these."
Wei pulls out a rather pricey courtier's outfit and tosses a clump of it to the cleric to dry her hands.
"Might it be possible for me to get some of that water as well, so I can clear off the mohrg dust and dead person?"
If that does occur, the tengu will be presentable before Colson even asks, and already presentable.
"Now here comes the very tough part. Remember, we don't know who is behind the basement, and we need to find that out in addition to influencing the representatives. Luisila and I were working on Dremdhet and his wife, but given what you all know about him now, I'm thinking we 'switch off'. Takkit and Conan can work on winning the Grand Ambassador's cause to our own."
"Quiven, Kalendir, I'm thinking the two of you haven't had much dealing with the Senator. Attempt to discover what you can in support of each other, and we'll wrap up on him, unless you can make significant headway to winning him over."
"Sister Luisila, remember when you said you'd be willing to take the hit for the team during the briefing? Well... it looks like you might be called to that. The two of us work on Vaelia of Wintermark, I'll spot for you, you bat the follow-up."
"Stay sharp, remember how we influenced the other representatives, be ready to support any discussion points we made before, be careful, be respectful, and let's enjoy the rest of the party, shall we?"
The tengu's pace, tone, and considerations are very much the epitome of someone who's been an expedition manager for several expeditions for the society, nuanced with the understanding of being a Pathfinder on said expeditions. Respectful, but setting up some guidelines for the party to focus their 'firepower', as it were.

Luisila watches the tengu warily as she dries her hands on the proffered clothing - but she doesn’t say anything.

Life experiences from being a slave and having a resource like feathers made for a very interesting time for Wei. Perhaps someday he'll relate that tale, but not right now.

Conan claps Wei Ji on the shoulder. "Your plan sounds... SOUND! Let us proceed!"
"The guests heard a certain comedian's fighting downstairs..."
"Who was that?" Conan asks innocently, blue eyes wide.
He slings an arm over Takkit's shoulder as they get into the salon. "Righto! The Ambassador! He'll fall to our cunning one-two punch, heyo? Do you want to try and FIGURE STUFF OUT ABOUT HIM FIRST, or just go right into the TALKING, my FURRY FRIEND?"

Polite applause signals the end of the esteemed Genedair's speech, and the guests begin filing into the salon as the White Grotto Players send out the first notes of their song.
Lord Rothos stretches and cracks his neck and his knuckles, eliciting a distressed glance from the Ambassador's wife. Scion Lord Kerkis makes polite conversation with the Grand Ambassador, though the Scion Lord's facial expression and body language suggest he does not care for the Grand Ambassador's mighty presence. Lady Darchana finishes off a glass of red wine and sets it on a side table before grabbing another from a server's plate, not missing a beat. Lady Dyrianna glances about the room as if looking for someone.
Takkit suddenly realizes that Lady Gloriana is right next to him, when she wasn't mere moments before.
"My kitsune friend, fellow courtier, would you care to join me as I speak with Lady Vaelia? I would be honored to have your expertise."
Major Colson Maldris approaches Wei Ji and Conan directly. He has hidden his concern at the recent discoveries in the cellar well behind a stoic facade.
"Fellow lovers of liberty, I feel it is time for me to attempt to speak to the Senator myself. Your assistance would be appreciated."

"Quiven, give Sister Luisila a hand, please--it seems that I'm getting called to something else. And Kalendir, maybe touch base with Dremdhet, you've got the lead-in and the start-up built in there. Good luck."
REALLY, Colson? REALLY? All this talk of 'Oh, plan it out, do your thing and you pull THIS excrement? This is one of those times where it's a very good thing I'm not human because right now I would be doing your 'gritting teeth' thing so hard!!
What the tengu does, though, after giving a few whispered corrections to the party to help them focus their attentions hopefully better, is step over to Major Colson.
"This is the duty of any Eagle Knight that's taken those oaths to the cause." Wei sounds determinedly neutral in tone as he joins the faction lead.

As she enters the Salon, Luisila blows a kiss to Wei Ji and waves ta-ta with the fingers on her right hand. “I’ll go chat with Grand Ambassador Salhar, Brother Wei. We’ll catch up later.”
As the priestess makes a beeline towards the Osirion Envoy, she notices Lady Dyrianna looking about somewhat lost. Luisila pauses, bows and once again takes her High Priestess’ hand, kissing her ecclesiastical ring.
“Is there something you desire that your companion cannot provide, Eminence?”

Kalendir's head jerks left then right as the group darts off in all directions.
The plan? This was not the plan at all....... Kalendir elven facepalms himself as he shrugs his shoulders.
Guess I can go around and see if I notice anything.
Closing his eyes he begins to ask for divine assistance as he searches for evil.

As Wei Ji scans Senator, the Ambassador, and their wives, he starts to pick up on their surface thoughts, though the Senator's wife eludes him.
Lady Darchana leans back against the wall, wine glass in hand, and smirks for just a moment, her eyes focused on Wei Ji.

Quiven attempts to start up a conversation with the Grand Ambassador via the topic of history, but the Grand Ambassador does not appear interested and waves him off.

Lady Dyriana accepts the kiss to her hand gracefully, then laughs. Her grin hints at a lascivious amusement.
"You have not done something with Faelyn to leave room for yourself to get in my graces, have you? He appears to have conveniently wandered off while you were off doing something."

Kalendir takes several moments to scan the room, hitting everyone with his divine gaze. His senses do not feel drawn to any evil influence in the room.

Luisila covers her open mouth with her hand in mock horror. “Your Eminence! I would never dream of stooping to such an act in order to win time alone with you.” *giggle*
The half-elf rotates her palm slightly and whispers, “Eminence, in truth I have not seen him. However, I shall maintain a discreet vigil on your behalf.”
Luisila lowers her eyes and bobs once more before taking her leave to join Scion Lord Kerkis and Grand Ambassador Salhar.
As she waits for an opportune moment to enter the conversation, the Calistrian notices Lord Kerkis’ discomfort and decides to offer him a polite out.
“Oh, there’s never a servant around when you need one. Lord Kerkis, would you mind getting me an awha mazboot?”
Luisila bats here eye-lids at the Grand Ambassador. “It’s the perfect after dinner beverage, wouldn’t you say, Your Excellency?”
“You know I don’t know if the Pathfinder Society tells you often enough how grateful we are for you opening your family vaults in Sothis to us for exploration AND for speaking favourably about us in Absalom’s Grand Council.”
“It must be difficult to be away from your home for extended periods. I have visited beautiful Sothis recently on Pathfinder business to foil a resurgence of the Shadow Lodge, which was trying flood the city with cursed artefacts. We successfully got them off the streets and managed to find and excise the root cause – permanently.”
“Our investigation took us under the Ulunat’s Shell, not far from the Forthbringer’s Palace.”

Kalendir approaches. We thank you for allowing us all of the opportunities your country ahs to offer. You have a great relationship with the Society and we would be ever more grateful for your assistance in dealing with the Worldwound before it is too late.
Kalendir grasps the nearby wall to balance himself as he feels a little woozy.
I need to take it easy..... that ghost took more out of me than I thought.
Feeling another rush Kalendir bends over and unleashes his supper all over the floor.
Holding a hand up he feebly offers an apology as he rushes away to clean up.

Lady Dyrianna throws her head back in a very undiscrete laugh. "Oh, I am certain he's just dallying with some serving girl. No need to worry much." She kisses Luisila's cheek, lingering for just a moment too long, then continues on to mingling.

The Grand Ambassador smiles at the beautiful half-elf, though he does not particularly notice her looks, instead continuing to lavish his attentions upon his wife.
"HAHA! You are one of the Pathfinders that took down the mighty Hondo Heru? I am most impressed. He cut a swath through many of my associates in Sothis, and deserved a thousand more deaths for his treachery."
I nearly killed two people with Hondo at low tier in Wrath of the Accursed. If the living monolith hadn't crit him and hit him twice (with max mirror images up at that!) and I hadn't rolled a 1 on the black tentacles grapple maintain, I might have killed everyone. He's rough!
He ponders for a moment, taking a sip of his coffee and munching on a decadent chocolate cookie. He pauses mid-chew as Kalendir begins to speak to him then promptly rushes off to vomit. The Grand Ambassador discretely moves the conversation a few steps away. As he finishes chewing, he pats his belly.
"Thank you for reminding me of why I have enjoyed working with the Pathfinders in the past, sadiq. As a recognition of your great deeds in service to Osirion, I shall give my support to this endeavor. If quality agents such as yourself are involved, I have great visions of its success!"
He shakes off some crumbs, then offers his pudgy hand to her to shake.

Major Colson leads his two fellow "lovers of freedom" over to the Senator. Major Colson salutes formally, which the Senator responds to with a courteous nod.
"Greetings, Senator. My name is Major Colson Maldris, Eagle Knight of the Steel Falcons and these are some of my valued associates, Conan O'Brien and Wei Ji the Learner." He stops to indicate each of you.
"I would like to speak to you myself about some of the specific strengths that Andoran can bring to a fight against demons. We have been fighting with Cheliax for years now, and while devils might be a different beast from demons, they tend to favor many of the same tricks, such as teleportation. We even have some special weapons we have developed..." he pauses and unhooks his sword and scabbard from his belt, holding it up parallel to the floor across his palms "...such as this Talonstrike Sword I hold right here, which is capable of locking down teleportation on any foe it strikes." he pulls it a couple inches out of its scabbard to show the silver blade, then returns it and hooks the scabbard back to the belt.
"So, in short, we have training and equipment only second to those of the Mendevians themselves at fighting demons."
He pauses for the briefest moment, as he considers the gravity of what he is about to say, of the lives he is suggesting sending out to fight and die.
"I think our boys and girls can do some real good, Sir."
The Senator gives his best grin as he takes another drag of his cigar, a fresh glass of bourbon in his hand.
"Of course, of course, of course. I have never been one to doubt the value of Andoran soldiers. I could see about maybe getting a pre-exploratory committee to consider the issue."
Major Colson tries his hardest to conceal a sigh.

Lady Gloriana takes the kitsune in-arm as she leads him over to the imposing Taldan noblewoman. She leans over to whisper to Takkit.
"Let me take the lead. Please, interject if you feel you can provide assistance."
She curtsies before Lady Vaelia, who only looks on in scornful disdain.
"Lady Vaelia! It has truly been too long. It is I, Gloriana of the Morilla House."
She nods towards Takkit. "I was just telling my associate here, a delightful young kitsune from Tian-Xia, about some of our Glorious Empire's grand history. When our Armies of Exploration charged across three continents, spreading our incomparable culture and wisdom throughout the Inner Sea, deep into Garund, and even into Tian-Xia. And who can forget when our very own General Arnisant and the Taldan Shining Crusade at his back slew The Whispering Tyrant and saved the world from an enternity of darkness and death?"
She smiles at Lady Vaelia, a confident verve taking over the younger woman as she feels her passion for her homeland. "Wouldn't you love to see our armies raise the flag of righteousness and lead the upstart nations of the Inner Sea to glory and honor once more? This Fifth Crusade provides us with an opportunity to show the world that we are not the shambling corpse they think we are, that a Taldan lion roars just as loud as ever."
Lady Vaelia scrunches up her mouth as if having bitten into a bitter fruit. "Little girl, you should not presume to speak to your elders about history. I have lived three times as long as you, and I know exactly how little your glorymongering is. Stop listening to tales and grow up."

"Senator, appropriations are always a thorny issue, and committees take time. Time that, if the figures that I've heard floating around this evening are correct, is in... painfully short supply.
Think of the legacy and fame truly putting your political capital into this preparation will do not only for Andoran, but for yourself, a humble servant of the people.
Think of the people you represent, and how much this will help them help you help them.
But most of all, please think about this.
It would be devastating to the people of Andoran if a noteworthy Senator such as yourself didn't consider such things as the contracts for Andoran businesses that will benefit from our involvement in this effort at the Worldwound.
The fact that a Hellknight is putting together this party should be an important thing to consider as well. They represent the law and order of our neighbors to the west, and if THEY feel it is important enough to get involved, then we need to match... no... exceed their contribution.
There is a time for patience and deliberation, Senator, and there is a time for action. Take action. Real, meaningful action, not a bureaucratic side-show that will cost lives, political capital, and endanger everyone on the continent of Avistan."

Conan stands with spine straight as Colson begins to talk to the Senator. Duty BIDS HIM ANSWER Colson's request, of course, but his distaste for the senator has already been established. When the senator dares to foist off on Colson the same disparaging and condescending promise of an EXPLORATORY COMMITTEE, he very nearly loses his temper, feeling his draconic heritage starting to boil up in his veins and leading to a strong desire to simply grab the senator and shake him like a bag of dough for daring to show this sort of disrespect to an EAGLE KNIGHT.
Fortunately Wei Ji speaks in a much more civilized fashion before Conan can get the first annoyed word-or-physical-assault out. Conan takes a few minutes to count to himself while Wei Ji lays things out, and he is somewhat.... somewhat calmer by the time Wei Ji finishes.
Still, Conan's eyes are flashing copper and there's no smile on his face when he speaks.
"My COLLEAGUE has laid out many COMPELLING REASONS why you ought to take DECISIVE ACTION NOW, Senator. He has appealed to things which will BENEFIT YOU. Permit me to take a DIFFERENT TACK.
"If the Eagle of Andoran does not fly north for the cause of JUSTICE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS in a timely fashion... if the heroes of OTHER LANDS stride forth to battle, to war and to die and to stand where we will not-- if even CHELISH KNIGHTS are quicker to raise the flag against the demons than WE OURSELVES-- and if your recalcitrance is the cause of that, Senator--"
Conan's voice drops in volume, but takes on a hint of a growl. "Then rest assured, Senator, that I will see that KNOWN. A long monologue, I am thinking. Perhaps HAND-PUPPETS. You. Your comfortable prosperity. Your charming wife. Your committees. I will be sure to exaggerate everything that I can, Senator, when I travel through your district, putting on ENTERTAINING SHOWS for the populace. I shall begin each performance with a READING OF THE NAMES OF THE MOST RECENT DEAD, from the Worldwound, and then I shall PRAISE YOU for your wisdom in keeping Andoran forces safely at home. I shall praise your PRUDENCE, in delegating committees. I shall above all compliment you on whatever marriage you are on at that point. I shall take PAINS, Senator, to memorialize you as a craven hedonist who serves neither freedom nor justice but the comforts of his enjoyable existence as a senator of the people. Do you understand my meaning, Senator?"

“You are too kind, Excellency.”
Luisila’s cheeks flush pink as she takes the Big Man’s hand. “My Lady’s Luck was with me that day in your fair city. And our unit cohesion and cooperation was first rate, which I do not need to tell Your Excellency, is not always the case among players with big egos.”
Kalendir’s retreat, after giving his performance in Full Technicolor® elicits a grimace-like smile from the Savored Sting’s servant. “If you will excuse me, Your Excellency, Lady Salhar, I must see to my companion’s well-being. Paladins will insist that they soldier on, even when circumstances demand they slow their pace a little.”
Luisila stands at a respectful distance so as not to embarrass Kalendir, while checking that he’s all right. She then attempts to discreetly attract a servant’s attention in order to set some 'staff on the barf.'

The Grand Ambassador laughs heartily at Luisila's request to excuse herself. He holds up his hand and bows to Luisila.
"But of course, sadiq! A pleasure to speak with you! I look forward to working together with one so favored by the gods!"

Throughout the Major's quite convincing and earnest argument, not to mention his own thoughtful overtures, Wei Ji picks up thoughts from the Senator that he finds highly discouraging.
The Senator seems to become smaller and smaller as Conan draws upon the impressive presence of his draconic ancestors, beaten the Senator into the ground with his empassioned threats.
"I-I-I will not be bullied by peons like you! Is this how you do things, Colson? Unleashing b-b-brutes upon an honest politician out for an evening with his wife? D-d-do you know how many powerful people back in Almas owe me favors? Consul Andares, Senators Gaisia and Julion--"
Major Colson interposes himself between the Senator and Conan, beginning to push Conan to go away. "I'm sorry for offending you, Senator! This was all a..."
Major Colson stops trying to usher Conan away, a look of confusion and concern on the Eagle Knight's face.
"Weren't Gaisia and Julion supposed to have ended their elected terms months ago?"
Senator Naran, his face still red and his breath still shallow and fast, straightens out his waistcoat. He starts chuckling.
"Yes, yes of course. Someday you will have to understand, boy, that some people are born to power and fit to keep it."
He takes a drink of his whiskey then turns away, beginning to walk away. He stops, but doesn't turn back around.
"For the good of the Andoren people, of course."

Conan looks grim. As the senator walks off, he clears his throat.
"Major, I apologize if I overstepped my bounds, but that man is no servant of the people. No one who truly understands the principles of justice and equality central to the SOUL OF ANDORAN would respond in this fashion-- or call anyone, regardless of their status, a PEON. Nor would they ever say that some are born to POWER. I fear that whatever good the Senator may have accomplished in his term has become LOST under a sea of his own self-serving desires. Still, I regret if my RIGHTEOUS ANGER caused us to fail at our objective here."

The tengu shakes his head somberly at the Senator and can't resist one last poke.
"I'm sorry to hear you've thrown your lot in with the House of Thrune, then. I wish you the best of luck on the upcoming elections, Senator. Have a great evening and enjoy the rest of the party."

After the Senator gets out of earshot, Wei will look to Colson and Conan...
"Be sure to get the stuttering in your performances, Conan. That was classic. And be sure to include all those names he mentioned just now. The spirit of freedom requires the ample and active participation of all who would keep the Eagle flying."
The tengu pauses for a moment, thinking.
"It's a shame, really. I was hoping that the Senator had learned something from the history of the people he represents, and what the limits of power are. He thinks he's invulnerable and that we can't do anything to him, but there's so much he let slip in that conversation it wasn't even funny. His day will come soon. Call it a hunch."
"Actually, the Senator raised a valid point just now, but may not have realized it. Do you have enough sway over rank and file to let those who wish to volunteer for the duty at the Wound to simply do so? Don't worry about funding for the moment, Major. Would the forces of freedom follow your banner? If not, what will it take to make it happen?"

Wei Ji and Conan speak to Major Colson, but he does not reaction. All of the vitality appears to have drained from his face. His military training is the only thing keeping him from slumping down into a seat. He idly shakes his head.
"How...how could this have happened? How could our homeland be so..."
He stares at the Senator as he attempts to hide himself in conversation with the Grand Ambassador. Naran is already smiling and gladhanding as though nothing had happened. Major Colson's jaw tenses.
"...corrupted?"
He takes a slow breath through his nose. The side of his mouth turns up. He suddenly turns back towards his loyal cohorts.
"I had thought that Andoran was Liberty's sword, but apparently the edge has grown dull and brittle when I wasn't looking."
He salutes Conan and Wei Ji.
"You have served admirably, showing your true dedication to the cause of freedom. I shall not forget it. I have much to think on. We shall speak on it later."
He takes his leave, returning to the party.

Seeing Wei Ji and Conan alone with Major Colson Kalendir wipes his mouth and approaches them with his best warming smile.
How's it going? Did you remember to tell the nobles about your chicken Conan?......
Kalendir grabs his stomach. Ugh. Those ghosts upset my stomach it seems.
Conan's face is stern. "I fear that the CHICKEN that I carry is no equal to the CHICKEN in their midst," he rumbles. Then he claps Kalendir on the shoulder.
"YOU DO NOT LOOK WELL, MY FRIEND. Let us see if we can find something mild for your stomach." He pauses to salute the Major. "I am at your disposal whenever the CRY IS RAISED, Major."

As Conan comes over after his contentious conference with the Senator, Luisila joins the celebrity and elven paladin.
“I think your archery may be the key to our success if and when whatever is building up here reaches a crescendo, Kalendir.”
Luisila’s expression is one of concern though her tone remains upbeat. “As such, I think it might be best if I buff and bodyguard you at arm’s length, while the others keep the bad guys at bay on the front line. I will also then be in a position to heal anyone that needs it and blast from a distance if required.”
“What do you guys think?”

Lady Gloriana is taken aback by the older woman's vitriol.
"Well, I can certainly understand how you would--"
Lady Vaelia swipes dismissively, as though batting Gloriana's words right out of the air.
"You understand nothing, little girl. Taldor has already sent one regiment north, one too many. We need all of our troops at home to fight the vile filthy sand-eating mongrels to our South and that 'Sun B*!!~' they worship. Give up your foolish dreams, little girl, and leave me alone."
Lady Gloriana stands stunned. She manages a polite nod and "excuse me," taking her leave of the vicious woman.
She collects herself as she leads Takkit away. She hides her face with her fan as she whispers to her underling.
"This will not stand. For the good of Taldor—for the good of what it means to be one of the aristocracy—we must not ignore the threat of the Worldwound. We have our chance to reclaim glory. We will speak more on this later."

A woman’s shrill cry cuts through the chamber music and muted conversation. Across the salon, Senator Naran holds his buxom young wife in his arms after her apparent collapse. As all eyes turn on the unconscious woman, the senator emits an angry cry: “Poison! Gods, my wife has been poisoned!”
Many of the guests and servants panic and the room erupts into chaos. Servants scatter as several of the guests toss their full wine glasses to the floor, while others spit out their wine with looks of horror and revulsion.
The nearby Lady Dyrianna is there in an instant, casting a calm healing spell on Dalessa, the Senator's wife. The Senator rushes his still-unconscious wife out of the room, Lady Vaelia and her manservant also seeing no reason to stick around.
The salon has turned into chaos, people running every which-way, and even the many keen-eyed Pathfinders are having difficulty making sense of it.
You notice one particular serving girl discretely making her way through the crowd, a bit too calm and collected in the ruckus, and then turning out the door. She looks about the same height and build as one of the girls you found in the cellar.

IF you can keep your head, when when all about you are losing theirs …
“There!” She indicates a serving girl with a similar build to one of the cellar victims, exiting the far end of the Salon. “She’s getting away … NO, THAT ONE! You MUST be able to see her!”
The single-minded agent turns to see she’s been scouting with Quiven, who is unlikely to see anything above the panicked throng.
Without further hesitation, she enters the stream of guests, like one of the Arcadian salmon served at dinner, swimming against the tide.

The kitsune is interrupted by the commotion, and turns to face the direction Luisila points. He immediately starts heading that way, two daggers sliding into his palms.

Kalendir straightens back up from losing his dinner in a flowerpot just as the commotion starts.
What is going on now! Looking up he is nearly knocked over by a pair of fleeing nobles. He looks to see if the rest of the group has any idea what is going on as he hears Luisila point and scream about a fleeing girl.
Looking through the mass of people Kalendir sees lots of girls. Which one?

In the madness of the salon, the Luisila cannot make her way through the crowd fast enough to get out the door to catch-up to the girl. Takkit deftly somersaults and rolls around the guests while Wei Ji and Conan effect an ad hoc "good-cop, bad-cop" routine to get them to calm down.
