I like the idea of the new action economy.
Considering your taste in alternate rules would you want to try out the inherent bonus system from unchained?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My ideas so far:
Melee Druid focused on animal forms
Melee Druid focused on elemental forms
Shifter
Kinetic Knight
Sanguine angel (this I would need to speak to you about reflavouring, and would be a better switch hitter than front line tank)
Paladin (I am playing a paladin in a very long standing game and think I might get bored though)
Warpriest
Monk
What other abusive AC classes am I missing?
One idea that I keep getting drawn back to is turning into an earth elemental.
I love the idea there, turning into an earth elemental in the mountains, fighting giants... Just seems like fun.
However I would want to do this from first level and the only way I can think of to do that would be an elemental shifter which can never get larger than medium, and a synthesis summoner, which is almost universally banned.
If anyone has other ideas on how to be a martial that turns into an earth elemental I would love to hear it.
I dont really even care for the tremor sense or stuff at the start. I just want to be an elemental :P.
However this does depend on whether our illustrious GM rules Earth Elementals as being able to wield weapons and wear armor. :P
[EDIT]
The scene that keeps coming to mind is the rock giant fight in the misty mountains in the fellowship of the ring.
Turning into a large or larger elemental and fighting the giants just strikes me as truly badass.
Which new action economy?
Think I';m gonna go with a a Titan Fighter. Think this is the best time to go for a very specific archetype like that for this AP where there will be a bunch of oversized weapons. Thoughts? Guys cool with that?
Stam Truthfinder
There are a lot of over sized weapons yes, I have been listening to the Glass Cannon podcast and they have play tested PF2e and they are using a lot of the rules from Unchained including the 3 action system for combat.
I could see an elemental being able to wield a weapon but the armor would be be "absorbed" I think it would still count though would it not? I will check under the druid stuff later when I am home.
Trytton
I don't mean the armor you are wearing before you polymorph. The stuff you are wearing 100% gets absorbed. I meant putting on armor after shifting. Also like dragging a massive weapon around to use after shifting.
I'm still trying to find the best class to pull off what I want.
Hmmmmm
Trytton
It would work for level 1. I'm now investigating the best way to get bigger to fight the giants...
Druid works and gives some support. But you can only do elementals later. And I can only go to large at lvl 10.
There really is no other way to really do it that I can find and that saddens me.
Darius Redgrave
Well it's something to aim for, hardly ever does our characters start out exactly how we want them at first level.
Though my fighter is starting out with an oversized greatsword doing 3d6+6 damage at first level. :)
Just need to figure out how to get past the reach of giants. Cos in Rise of the Runelords, the reach was what kicked my butt every time we encountered giants.
Also, haven't seen any posts in the gameplay thread? Does that mean Carrion Crown is done for?
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Agg... too many options with Variant Multi-classing.
So we have a ton of Melee/single person damage, no AoE and control/healing is what I need to bring to the game.
So probably not going Gnome Witch/Illusionist. Thinking more Elf or Half Orc - Good Witch now... My Daughter's watching Charmed and it's kinda got me going that way.
As for the New Action Economy: See Here
Not on my end. I"m just busy trying to figure out how the heck to build a witch, plus I'm outside not listening to anything you are saying...
Stam Truthfinder
Also of note, Anyone who gets +2 Skill points I am bumping up to +4 since +2 skill points is stupidly restrictive.
I posted as Stam and I would like to finish CC, we don't have to use the new Action Economy system just a thought.
A witch is really good at debuffing, according to some guides. Thing is, that you'd need someone to take advantage of that.
Is your witch living in the woods? In an old wooden shack? You know, for the background.
Did we ever get more information on Dagon?
That's the Effigy that the way wanted to trade here for something....
Brother Grergof Varsk
All I remember is he was a nasty demon lord. I looked but didn't see anything more then that info is in the fourth book, way back when.
Foxy Quickpaw
In the campaign setting book "Inner Sea Gods" Dagon is just an entry in a table listing subdomains.
and Sea Monsters. One of the largest demon lords, Dagon
dwells in the depths of the Abyssal sea of Ishiar. Not quite
fish or octopus or eel, the Shadow in the Sea often sends
his spawn into the depths of Material Plane oceans to
serve as high priests for vicious oceanic monstrosities.
His cult is also strong along remote coastlines, where
societies of humans or marsh giants mix with ichthyic
visitors, taking them into their homes in exchange for
good fishing or gifts of strange gold jewelry.
Religion: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Nope
Just because someone is lawful and nice, doesn't mean they can't take an over-inflated ego down a size or two.
Brother Grergof Varsk
You are a Barbarian... How exactly did they stop you?
Foxy Quickpaw
But where to find one when you need one :P
Also that is a generalization that is probably not true. Even the best get in trouble if the characters take a turn off the path of the adventure, or find a way to kill the end-boss from two books later. Especially at the table where you can't disappear in the books for an hour to come up with something.
Ahhh, a good GM is worth their weight in gold. We are blessed with three in our group.
As for when things go off the rails:
That's when you call a 10 minute snack/bathroom break or quickly text someone to call you, so you can step out. Or you Fall back on any of the many ways out:
Killing big bad early:
1) First Mate takes over for Big Bad (with some crazy personality differences)
2) Big Bad comes back as a Lich/Vampire and now has a personal grudge against the players,
3) You only thought you killed him. It was actually a Clone, Copy, Illusion, etc.
4) Raise Dead - Not just for heros.
Off the rails:
1) A thief shows up and steals something. Players always chase, and that ends up back on the rails.
2) Town A becomes Town B and life continues.
3) You let them do (insert other adventure) for a while and then they start to hear about how this X bad thing is happening, let them draw the concussion that oh maybe we should stop the Big Bad. You pull on that thread hard enough and they will get back on the rails.
4) If all else fails: Straight out say: Guys the adventure I have prepped is over here, if you want to do Y, that's fine but we are going to have to end this now so I can plan out something fun.
At least that's how I handle it...
Darius Redgrave
Yeah my home groups main PF DM does this thing where when we discuss plans 75% of the time the big bad has planned for our plans.
Also he doesn't so much as railroad us as when we tell him what we want to do he explains what it won't work instead of actually playing out the results. It can get frustrating and take a lot of the excitement out of a game. Buuuut anyway...
Brother Grergof Varsk
Sorry, had a sick kid, so he got to use the computer all day yesterday and I didn't get a chance to check the posts.
Darius Redgrave
Yup, just saw that the part of the line saying 'in the morning' isn't in there. Will post in a little bit just busy with work then sorting my spells for this part of the adventure.
Brother Grergof Varsk
I think he means the big long hallway that leads to F5-F8
Darius Redgrave
Weird, I've cast Divine Power which should give me a +3 but on my Herolab it's only giving me a +1 to everyting.
Darius Redgrave
I thought the cultist took a step away from me so thats why I cast instead of stepping towards him. If he was right next to me I woulda gonna full attack on the guy. That's why I didn't roll a concentration in my post. So where is he now? Right next to me?
Brother Grergof Varsk
I suddenly had the vision of that spell summoning x wet nurses for babies. The uses Lito could have put that version of the spell too...
Brother Grergof Varsk
It brings up some interesting role playing options....
Brother Grergof Varsk
Yep, would be good. could give the baby to an unseen servant and lock it up safely till we are done.
