Barbarian (Urban Barbarian) 1 [ HP: 15/15 AC: 12 T: 12 FF: 10 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0 | Init +2 Perc: +3 ]

Cheers for the acceptance, Fateweaver. I'm looking forward to playing this character as it will be the darkest character I've played in a while.

I guess the first order of business for Gavrus is whether or not he knows any of the rest of the party from his time as a guard sergeant. He moved in upper middle class social circles and might have a passing chance at knowing anyone who had a run-in with the guard.

It is likely that his downfall will be reasonably known about, although it has been fifteen years since that event but I think that if anyone wants to make a check on what they'd know about Gavrus then the following would be suitable:

Knowledge (local) DC 10:
Gavrus Mendelheim is a notorious local drunk, small-time enforcer and pit fighter. He used to be a guard but had a spectacular fall from grace.

Knowledge (local) DC 15:
Gavrus used to be a guard sergeant and moved in some well-to-do social circles. After the death of his wife and daughter, he turned his back on the law and moved into the ramshackle tavern that he now frequents when he isn't breaking bones as an enforcer or pit fighter.

Knowledge (local) DC 20:
Gavrus once tried to take on Gaedren Lamm and though there is no evidence of it, the rumour is that Gaedren killed Gavrus' daughter and his wife committed suicide while Gavrus tried to chase him down. Another rumour is that Gavrus swore to kill Gaedren but has never been able to find him.

I will create an Alias today for my character. Thank you for selecting me.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

I have created an Alias.

Gavrus I will follow your example and post the same for my character.

Knowledge (local) DC 10:
Eleazar Cor was expelled from the Anomanexus college for falling afoul of the law. Ultimately, no charges were pressed but the Arcane colleges refused to readmit him.

Knowledge (local) DC 15:
Eleazar comes from a well off family that runs a parchament and bookbinding business in the Southend. He briefly attended the Anomanexus college for the Arcane. During his time there he was charged with murdering a messenger, but the witness never materialized.

Knowledge (local) DC 20:
Eleazar claims that Gaedren Lamm was the real murderer and that he tried to frame him. Rumors persist that Eleazar is looking for people willing to help him go outside the law and take down Gaedren Lamm once and for all.

I am making my knowledge local roll for Gavrus below:

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Barbarian (Urban Barbarian) 1 [ HP: 15/15 AC: 12 T: 12 FF: 10 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0 | Init +2 Perc: +3 ]

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

elf rogue 1

OK. This is very interesting.

First, to roll (I'm going to cry if either of these come up 20s):
Gavrus 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 That drunk bruiser. Did I hear he used to be a guard?
Eleazer 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 That's him. The one who probably got away with murder because of his family.

and me...

Knowledge Local DC 10:
You've seen her around. She was just another bottom-feeder, strung out on shiver.

Knowledge Local DC 15:
She turned up about two years ago, with some story about a murdered father. Didn't take long before she figured out everyone's heard that one before.

Knowledge Local DC 20:
You hear she got herself off shiver after spending a week lost in the vaults. Supposedly Gaedren Lamm thought she was dead of an overdose and dumped her down a hole.

Barbarian (Urban Barbarian) 1 [ HP: 15/15 AC: 12 T: 12 FF: 10 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0 | Init +2 Perc: +3 ]

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

I figure Garvus has kept tabs on stories to do with Lamm through the years.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Rolling for Glimoril.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Looks like Eleazar has been doing a bit of research on Gaedren Lamm's recent victims and likely knows he has a hand in the shiver trade. If this Elf is a recovered addict, perhaps she can lead him to Gaedren Lamm?

elf rogue 1

Bah. Everyone knows about me, because of my awesomeness. :P

But really, the story of the body that got dumped that wasn't quite dead would probably reach the ears of anyone keeping an eye on Lamm.

Male Half Elf 7th Sorcerer {Destined Bloodline} [ HP: 52/52 AC: 17 T: 15 FF: 13 | Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5| Init +3 Perc:+4]

ooo sounds like fun....can I play ;)

Knowledge Local DC 10:

Spoiler:
Timerus is a Priest in good standing with The Clergy of Abadar but sometimes he is a bit vocal about the Guard cracking down on crime

Knowledge Local DC 15:

Spoiler:
Timerus frequently tries to get the guard and the courts to bring Lamm to Justice, and has become known as someone who cries wolf saying he see's Gaedran Lamm at every tavern and abandoned building

Knowledge Local DC 20:

Spoiler:
Timerus at one time was one of Lamm's Lambs and will stop at nothing to see Justice is served.

but so self absorbed is Timerus he has no ranks in Knowledge Local..yet...so he will not be rolling ;)

@Timerus, remember that everyone gets a free +3 on Knowledge (local) checks connected to Korvosa and it can be used untrained in connection with Korvosa.

Also, someone (I forget who at the moment) went with a regular hit die for first level hit points. If you recall from the recruitment post, one of my house rules is that everyone starts with their full Con score in hit points at first level. Subsequent levels will be rolled (or taken at half the hd +1), but make sure you've taken all the hit points you're entitled to as we begin.

I'm a big fan of these Knowledge (local) checks about each other. Cool idea, Gavrus. At this point I'm operating under the assumption that, while you may have heard things about each other, none of you have met.

Your initial posts are excellent, all four of you. I feel very vindicated in my choice of players and I'm all the more excited for the campaign because of it. I'll definitely have this underway today, just as soon as I can get my kid put down for a nap.

elf rogue 1

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 This guy sems to have it in for Lamm, though he's a little bit delusional about it. If he weren't so ... law-and-order-y ... we might be able to make something happen.

elf rogue 1

oops .. that was me ... fixing that right now.

And those +3s changed what I know about everyone. Hmmmm....

Barbarian (Urban Barbarian) 1 [ HP: 15/15 AC: 12 T: 12 FF: 10 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +0 | Init +2 Perc: +3 ]

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

No problem, Fateweaver. It wouldn't work in every AP but in such a city-centric AP such as CotCT and CoT it works quite well.

Male Half Elf 7th Sorcerer {Destined Bloodline} [ HP: 52/52 AC: 17 T: 15 FF: 13 | Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5| Init +3 Perc:+4]

ok then

+3 +1 for int

Eleazor 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Glimoril 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Gravrus 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Male Half Elf 7th Sorcerer {Destined Bloodline} [ HP: 52/52 AC: 17 T: 15 FF: 13 | Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5| Init +3 Perc:+4]

hehe not much diferent. Gravrus and Eleazor? who are they?

Gilmoril...oh that elf who killed her father and was addicted to Shivers.

elf rogue 1

I didn't kill my father! Whoever said that is a liar.

Revised on account of New Information (+3 on Korvosa related checks)

Gavrus He might be a drunken bruiser, but he had the sense to quit the guard. And he's lost his family, poor man. I know how that is.
Eleazer That's the one who says Gaedren framed him for murder. Definitely someone to talk to.
Timerus He was under Lamm's thumb once, too. A dangerous friend for a thief to have, but still....

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Rolling for any potential knowledge of Timerus.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 A good priest of Abadar. Maybe he can help patch me up if I get into too much trouble.

elf rogue 1

So what are the chances that Eleazar and Glimoril are in the same tavern?
And that it's the one Gavrus is sleeping it off in?
Or is it better if we wait to meet until tomorrow?

The chances are about 100% (kind of funny that you all chose to do what you did - it makes me smile), but as you've never met, I can't see any reason why any of you would recognize each other. Your Perception is high enough that we can say you, Glimoril, notice a man (Eleazar) studying a similar card with a confused expression across the barroom.

BTW, another mistake that I have caught (fortunately before it came up) is that CotCT was written for 3.5, which edition's XP advancement track is closer to PF's FAST advancement track. In the recruiting thread I said that we'd be using the MEDIUM track.

Sorry. We'll be using the FAST track.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Let me know around the appointed hour (since most arrived an hour early) and Eleazar will make his way to the home of the fortune teller.

Male Half Elf 7th Sorcerer {Destined Bloodline} [ HP: 52/52 AC: 17 T: 15 FF: 13 | Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5| Init +3 Perc:+4]

should be close. Timerus was only planning on being 15-20 minutes early

elf rogue 1

When I rolled Glimoril, I had no idea she had such a mouth on her.

Haha! Call it emotional duress. I'm REALLY enjoying all the characters so far though. I think this is going to be a fantastic group.

@Eleazar, I think you could show up any time now really. Everyone else is there anyway and, as Timerus said, he was only planning to show up a little early, too.

Male Half Elf 7th Sorcerer {Destined Bloodline} [ HP: 52/52 AC: 17 T: 15 FF: 13 | Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5| Init +3 Perc:+4]
Glimoril wrote:

yeah it is interesting how a good character will almost 'write' itself ehh ;)

I had not intended for Timerus to come off that way...but as I type, I find it fitting..and so.....

Male Human Inquisitor 1

Fateweaver, I've brought my character into the scene. With Eleazar's lack of street smarts, I figured he'd be more trusting then is wise, especially after hearing Timerus's words - afterall he can trust a priest of Abadar, can't he?

Eleazar also cast Mage armor, so he is down one spell for this day.

Male Human Inquisitor 1

So, what is up with the other two players? Are they still around?

I have heard nothing from either. I'm honestly kinda hurt by it. I put a lot of work into preparing for the game and they vanish after less than 100 posts without a word. I'm sorry, Eleazar and Timerus, but it's kinda taken some wind out of my sails. I'd like to believe that they have a good reason, but I asked for 1 post/day and they agreed...it's been a week since the last post for either, if I recall. I'm going to reopen recruiting and replace them both.

Gavrus and Glimoril, thanks for what you did bring at the beginning, but we had to go on without you.

Male Half Elf 7th Sorcerer {Destined Bloodline} [ HP: 52/52 AC: 17 T: 15 FF: 13 | Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5| Init +3 Perc:+4]

dont get discouraged. It happens. Real life can grab and twist us pretty heavy at times. Im sure they have their reasons. But year, after a week its probably a good idea to seek replacements.

Male Half Elf 7th Sorcerer {Destined Bloodline} [ HP: 52/52 AC: 17 T: 15 FF: 13 | Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5| Init +3 Perc:+4]

In fact after looking at her (Glimoril's) profile, Id bet shes a college student who found a bit of time on christmas break and jumped into the PBP arena pretty heavy...and now is back at school.

her primary has 139 posts and all within 2 months...none of her 20 alias's have more than 60 posts roughly.

most under 20.

Shes probably an avid gamer and the school scene is just got her hard right now.

If I had to hazard a guess anyway. Hope all goes well for her.

....same story for Gavrus but only 5 or so alias' and maybe 288 posts.

wish him well too

Well, this may be a good moment to get some feedback...how's it goin so far? Is the pacing ok? Any constructive criticism for me?

Male Half Elf 7th Sorcerer {Destined Bloodline} [ HP: 52/52 AC: 17 T: 15 FF: 13 | Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5| Init +3 Perc:+4]

Im enjoying Timerus!!! and your play style is fine. Im all in ;)

Male Human Inquisitor 1

It's quite good. Aside for the slow down, which wasn't within your control, I have no complaints. I am liking the direction of it so far.

Ok, so Callie (arcane duelist bard) and Crain (drunken brute barbarian) are goiing to be joining us and replacing Glimoril and Gavrus. We're pretending like it was them all along. They're both pretty similar to the original two, so it's not a huge leap. Maybe peak over their stories in their profiles and feel free to "meet and greet" before we go on to Lamm's. Thanks for your patience, Timerus and Eleazar.

Male Half Elf 7th Sorcerer {Destined Bloodline} [ HP: 52/52 AC: 17 T: 15 FF: 13 | Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +5| Init +3 Perc:+4]

no worries FW and well come Callie and Crain.

Resident psuedo law abiding cleric here.

I look forward to gaming with both of you...

Hey guys, thanks for the invite. I'm not one to drop out, so hopefully I can help with getting things back on track a bit!

Now, Crain's has some rough edges to him. He likes to drink, swear a bit, and might be a bit too friendly with the ladies. He's got an 8 as a charisma, so he isn't the most lovable chap in the world. If I play him too strongly for anyome's taste, just let me know and I'm happy to ease up!

This is my favorite AP and I am stoked to have a crack at it...

Hi guys, checking in. Glad to be here!

Made some final tweaks to my character -- swapped Strength and Dexterity (14 and 12) and changed short sword for longsword (I liked the shortsword for more concealability, but it makes more sense for someone wanting to become a great swordswoman). Changed cure light wounds to vanish. (Almost took Urban Grace which would have been perfect and then I realized it was half-elves only.) Got rid of MW backpack and got tanglefoot bag instead.

Let me know if any questions or concerns.

Callie, you should have 10 HP, I think, from your Con score.

Thanks, I had missed that house rule. It's fixed now. Also realized I had a +1 to Fort save which is wrong... weird thing is I think THAT was a chargen program error. I may run her through a different program to make sure she's up to snuff.

Oh, I like the Knowledge Local check idea:

DC 10

Spoiler:

Callie's a local performer, tricks of legerdemain mostly, on the streets and sometimes in taverns.

DC 15

Spoiler:
Callie, a trained bard, wasn't seen in the tavern competitions for a few months. When she came back, she's been talking to others trying to gather dirt on Gaedren Lamm.

DC 20

Spoiler:
Word has it Callie disappeared because of a shiver addiction. She seems to be okay now, but has a mad-on for Lamm.
On a different note, unlike many bards, Callie avoids seeking patronage amongst the nobles--she enjoys the tavern-bard life and apparently wants to keep it that way.

Well, there's different scars and different forms of recovery from such things. :)

Oh, also the checks for others' Local checks:

Timerus: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Eleazar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Oh and Callie, it's fine if you puch Crain in the face. You have the unenviable task of being a pretty female around him.

But like I said, if it's not cool, let me know and I'll lay off....

Crain's info

Know. Local DC 10

Spoiler:
. Crain is well known in every tavern in the city having passed out or being thrown out of most of them. He constantly rages about everything that's wrong in his life being the result of you-know-who.

DC 15

Spoiler:
. Crain was a former decorated member of the Guard before being terminated from his position approximately three years ago.

DC20

Spoiler:
Crain, despite his failings, is in a much better state now than a couple years ago. He had a lengthy bout of trouble which stemmed from a Shiver addiction. He drinks too much but seems to have gotten past the drug issues.

Just as a note guys, Crians not a deep thinker, and his preference is to always push straight ahead. If anyone thinks its a bad idea, he will listen to reason. He just needs something to pause his inertia.

Sorry, I forgot to include it.

Have a great time guys!

Grats and have fun you crazy love-birds! Or Adventurers!

Thank you very much see you in the discussion thread

Good luck. Have fun. Don't lick the orange toads.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Congrats to those who got in. Good luck.

Sadly, this game got off to a rocky start. My barbarian and rogue vanished without a word before the game ever truly got started.

I need 2 more players for this game. A sorcerer (sage) and a cleric (Abadar) remain and have both brought some great things to the table so far. Please, see the original post for instructions. We have technically started and you may want to read all that has happened so far to get you up to speed. It's only about 70 posts or so, I believe.

Good luck!

dotting, have a Ninja, and a Fighter that'll need tweaking.

DM, if you don't want to disrupt the flow of the game, I'd be happy to take over the barbarian and play him from here on out. I'd just copy him into a new alias, and it'd be easy peasy.

That's really cool of you to offer that, but literally almost nothing has happened. We just got the game going. It wouldn't disrupt anything to pretend it was the new PC all along. I know I, personally, would rather play a character of my own making so I can only imagine you would, too. Let me see how the submissions go and, by all means, submit something you've been itching to play. If that's the best option then I'd be happy to have you take him over.

I'll put a warrior type together tomorrow, per my PM.

Magnauk want retribution. Please allow me the chance.

Throwing Janus in for your consideration. A roguish bard to provide some help with skills, Diplomacy, and a bit of fighting. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Here is Gerald's Drunken Barbarian submission, DM.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

I'd still be available to play Callie if she was a desirable addition. You can see from my other pbp posting histories that I don't tend to disappear (only pbp campaign I left was intentional and gave the GM notice).

I am playing a bard in another pbp now, so I could also write up a rogue.

Welcome, Crain and Callie, to the game. Janus and Magnauk, thanks for your submissions.

Because we have really only just barely begun, I think I'll just go on from this point as if it were you two in the group all along. Please, skim the game thread and we're ready to go on when you are.

Awesome...thanks, DM. I'll check in after I read the thread!

The Exchange

Congrats Gerald, I know that Curse has been your white buffalo

Lol, thanks Celeador! I am beyond excited!! (double exclamation points)

Hopefully I'm not a jinx for CotCT. I've got a good feeling about this one, though...

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Wow, that was fast. Thanks! I need to get her stats into an alias; I will post to the thread in the morning.
