The architecture of the building is quite different from the usual Niswan buildings, it looks dilapidated and is covered with ivy and cobwebs.

Mohktar frowns down at the child, sensing the fear in him. "Why is he so sad? Is he seperated from his parents or friends? Why is he so afraid of that place?"

A small pit deep within the calm center of the monk stirs. He unconsciously sets his feet, a minor shift to distribute his weight evenly. Mohktar surveys the alley for dangers.

Then he looks back to the child. A child once lured me into an alley in the Coins. It wasn't until after the thugs attacked that I noticed it was a baited trap.

Mohktar:
The boy is wearing typical clothing from one of the lower casts. A simple white t-shirt, somewhat ripped on his left side and by the looks a few bramble thorns left in it, he has a matching graze. The boy has green eyes and a dark complexion. His hair is fairly short but it looks like he's been dragged, or perhaps crawled through a bush. Likewise his grass stained shorts are somewhat ripped but still serviceable. He has simple sandals on that have seen better days. His fingernails are ragged and have a layer of dirt underneath them. As best as you can tell, his pockets are empty.


The boy blubs miserably at Alwyn's feet, "Ghara ajība aura FAE thā. Aura kahā ki.. Ki, uha ki uṛāna bāta. Yaha aspaṣṭa paṅkha aura sīṅga kē sātha ēka ghr̥ṇita fanged mukhauṭā thā! Isakē bārē mēṁ phaṛaphaṛātē aura ēka ḍēmŏna taraha hideously cackled aura chāyā aura bātēṁ vivāda! Bātēṁ! Ōha Waahid kyōṁ? Kyōṁ tuma vahām̐ mēṁ jānē kī kyā zarūrata thī?!"

Vudrani:
The house was strange and fae. And that.. that, uh that flying thing. It was a hideous fanged mask with shadowy wings and horns! It flapped about and cackled hideously like a daemon and spat shadow and things! THINGS! Oh Waahid why? Why did you have to go in there?!"

I've got some hunch as to what it could be, sounds like one of those flappy undead heads. That or that used to be a head and detached itself from the torso. Mists of Mwangi recall.

You get an overwhelming sense of fear from the boy. A little like he's seem something horrible and hasn't come to terms with it.

Lilly:
The description sounds vaguely demonic but it doesn't quite fit any extra-planar creature you're aware of.

This island is cursed...I need no more proof of that. Shiko mutters. Mohktar, I suppose we will be searching for this boy's friends.... and before the monk can answer Shiko is off moving ahead silently and swiftly.

Shikyomaru:
You notice the spooky looking house has some fairly unconventional features. Little ugly devils are carved into the house's wooded beams. There are at least half a dozen tombstones in the garden among overgrown brambles. There is what appears to be poison ivy growing up the walls. Oh and there's a wishing well, the bottom of which is lost in inky darkness. Above the door there is a time-worn brass plaque with a stylized word "Azath" carved into it. The front door is ajar, and you can hear a soft moaning from within.

Does Shiko notice anything amiss? He would make a full circuit of the house and try a door handle if he could. Look in windows, that sort of thing.

Shikyo:
Yes and no. The thorns on some of the bushes are very large, and they seem to quiver when you pass by. You get the distinct impression that it would be a bad idea to let them touch you. Likewise there's a rose plant behind the house, it's hard to tell in the current light but it's flower seems to be very red, and it's thorns look to be wickedly sharp. The house itself is kind of creepy, but you can't tell anymore from outside.

Mohktar frowns, as he searches the shadows in Shiko's direction. To his right and left he whispers to the others. "Oni, an unclean spirit...a torturer and shape changer..."

Looking to the house, his face goes impassive as he seeks the stillness at his core. "Shiko-san is right, this city is cursed." Mohktar steels to join his friend. "I heard three names. We cannot leave them to this fate. Instruct the child to hide well. The rest of you, approach cautiously, I'll scout ahead with Shiko-san."

He slips into the alley and catches Shiko's eye. A gesture to himself and then to the roof overhang. I'll get an eye thru the second floor windows.

Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17 (scope it out as I approach)

Limbering up his bow, Alwyn follows the others towards the house, staying in the shadows as best he can.

Is anyone translating for Mohktar?

Pratava:
The description sounds rather like a Spirit Oni, This evil-looking animated mask shows the face of a horned fiend, its eyes popping and its leering smile full of fangs.

Most oni that emerge on the Material Plane do so into a new body of humanoid flesh, yet this is not the case for all oni. Periodically, when an evil spellcaster wishes to engage the servitude of an oni as a familiar, the result is something relatively unusual—an oni made flesh directly from its spiritual form rather than one who takes the features of a humanoid as its own.

You sense various magical eminations but they shift somehow and you can't really make sense of what you're seeing.

Just realized I posted a broken link to a picture of the house, it looks like this.

Mohktar doesn't see anything untoward about the porch overhang. Sure it's got ivy growing up it and looks old, but it appears to be solid enough. The front door is ajar as if somebody had just left.


The kid looks at Lilly hopefully, "Arē hām̐ , āpa kē pīchē. Yaha āpa kō surakṣita rakhanē kē li'ē mujhē kē pāsa haiṁ jaba rākṣasōṁ mujhē nahīṁ mila sakatā hai, vahām̐ sabasē surakṣita hai."

Oh yes, behind you. It's safest there, the monsters can't get to me when you are near to keep me safe.

After retrieving his bow and cold iron arrow, Alwyn concentrates on the door and uses mage hand to push the door the rest of the way open. Before conjuring up 4 bobbing lights that are just inside the door.

The wooden floor creaks slightly as Shikyomaru lightly steps inside. Theres a strange foetid smell as if something has died here. Inside the house is very dark, and even with darkvision he can't see more than a few feet, the light from Alwyn's spell swallowed up, before they wink out. Its as if some kind of fog was contained within. Deeper within Shikyomaru thinks he can hear a rasping noise.

Shiko keeps moving forward slowly, he is trying to make a quick reconnaissance trip through the house.

Shikyomaru enters deeper into the house, and feels the air move behind him as if something had walked behind him. He wheels around Katana in hand, but there's nothing there. Deeper into the house he hears a dripping noise in addition to the rasping one.

You press on past the front porch, deeper into the house towards the source of the rasping noise. It seems to be coming from towards the ceiling in what is apparently the living room. The ceiling is very high and you can dimly see an observation gallery from the second floor.

Shikyomaru Only! - Perception DC 15:

Out of the corner of his eye Shikyomaru sees a flash of a disturbing scene. Hung by his neck from the rafter rope rubbing on the second floor banister, is a tallish man killed in his prime. He has a well-muscled slim build. with olive skin, dark hair with hints of grey at the temples and the stubble around his jaw. Turning to face the hanged fully, the image is gone.

Shikyomaru Only! - Perception DC 25:

It's hard to tell through the murk, but you think you can see the legs of what might be a body sticking out from behind the sofa...
