"Do as you wish, if it were my guess, it was someone I thought I dealt with a while ago." Joliryn spits out just after she turns invisible as she moves toward the other room, following the rest of the group.

The creatures in the vat grow considerably larger as they take more humanoid form. Their grotesque shapes begin to press against the glass that shields them from you, filling the containers to near capacity. Curiously, the one in the orange vat appears to be halfling sized... and feminine in structure.

Kar Zaweeb observes the gathering at the door and laughs.

"You must certainly be afraid of meeting your doom. I suppose I would be too, if that were the case here. But it isn't." With that, he draws another scroll and calmly reads it aloud.

Entropic Shield

The pile of refuse in front of him grinds and twists, seemingly taunting you as well. Mostly it appears as an unholy serpentine monstrosity comprised of broken glass, rusty wire, and alchemical fluids, though deep inside of it, you can also see the twisted visages of humanoids, devoid of life.

Aaog-Shagga hovers over and finally gets a view of his mortal enemy, though his view is obstructed by the others in the doorway. "KAR ZAWEEB! YOUR AFFRONTS AGAINST THE GREAT AAOG-SHAGGO WILL NOW BE REPAID...WITH DEATH!" The mighty creature raises a claw and swipes it to the side, a line of magic rippling out from him to dismiss the shield Kar Zaweeb had conjured.

what kind of check do I need to determine if there is a link link between the vats and the people, and if so a way to break it?

It is quite evident that the patient's nightmares are powering the growth process. So, anything you do to break that link should halt or slow that process. Awakening a patient (full round intimidate or heal), simply killing them, destroying the vats, or disabling the machines (full round disable or kn:planes or kn:arcana) would suffice.

Falth moves towards KarZaweeb, drawing a searing arrow and lining it up in his bow. "Hey. I saved this one just for you, but we'll get to that in a bit. For now," he makes a fist and holds it out across the room, "Stand there and keep talking trash. It doesn't matter. You will meet your death as this place is reduced to a smoldering ruin decorated by your corpse."

Move ahead and activate judgment (Justice for +2 profane bonus attack, Purity for +2 profane bonus saving throws). Is there a knowledge check on him for bane?

Searing Arrow This +1 flaming arrow continues to burn its target each round, dealing 1d6 fire damage on the attacker’s turn for the next 3 rounds. Removing the arrow requires a DC 10 Heal check and prevents any further damage from the arrow (the DC increases to 15 if the target tries to remove the arrow from itself). Removing the arrow destroys it, and it burns up after 3 rounds pass.

Shohiraj moves to the closest vat and works the dials until it whirs loudy and shuts down. The creature within jerks mindlessly for a few seconds then sinks limply to the bottom of the vat.

Rataji races into the room and attempts to confuse the foes. Zaweeb shakes it off confidently and it does not seem to affect the amalgam in front of him either.

With Rataji's guidance, Aaog-Shagga dispels one of Zaweeb's protective spells. Eramay tries to replicate Shohiraj's actions, but is unsuccessful.

Thestil steps into the room and blasts Zaweeb with glitterdust, but again he shrugs it off. Falth's arrow strikes Zaweeb. Almost instantly, the nightmare pile in front of him screams in agony and Falth's mind is wracked with searing pain.

Falth, DC 13 Fort save or be staggered this next round.

Kar Zaweeb laughs at your burning arrow Falth, and casts a spell your way.

Falth, DC 18 Will save or be paralyzed this next round.

The nightmare pile spits forth a spray of acid and catches Rataji and Falth in its path.

Inside the vats, the creatures start to take their final form... lanky ebon humanoids with batlike wings, horns, and a long prehensile tail, but lacking a face. Amazingly, the one in the back has the vague form of Joliryn, only faceless! Judging from their size, they risk shattering their enclosures at any moment.

Leaping out of the wad of accident hurled his way, the man manages to avoid the worst of it. "Gross" he mumbles.

Looking long at the pair of combatants, he considers 'Wish we knew what their weaknesses were. Seems this is not going to be an easy fight.'

"How do you feel about lightning?" he asks the mound. Drawing a cloud in front of him, a crackling noise fills the air. Suddenly he fires a beam of electrical energy straight from his chest.

Shohiraj steps quickly and easily shuts down another vat, its occupant going limp as before. Rataji blasts Zaweeb with a terrible spike of electric energy but he almost completely dodges it with aplomb. Once again, the nightmare pile screams in horror at the assault on its master, but this time it is Rataji's mind that reels in pain.

Rataji, DC 13 Fort save or be staggered this next round.

Aaog smashes the last vat with ease, releasing the almost-formed beast within. The hideous creature pulsates through the shards and grows tremendously next to him, looking something like a cross between Joliryn and a huge pile of psychic sludge, coursing with violence and pain.

DC 13 Knowledge Dungeoneering:
You have arrested the nightmare Joliryn's development (literally, it was the very next action for "her" to fully mature in the vat) and instead face a huge hungry flesh: an amalgamous ooze that tries to grab and disease you. It will tend to regenerate and grow unless you beat on it with bludgeoning weapons.

Eramay rushes into the next room while Thestil moves closer to Zaweeb. The fleshy blob searches instinctively for a target and strikes at Aaog but glances off his divine protection. Falth struggles under Zaweeb's focus and manages to fire off another shot, striking Zaweeb solidly in his torso.

Zaweeb shouts out "Twelve!" and almost instantly the platform nearest to him lowers to just above the floor. Those in the room will notice a lever (among many on the wall) move at his command. Location of the levers marked with a blue dot on the map

Zaweeb races to it and leaps onto its frame with an amazing grace. The nightmare pile lurches forward and strikes at Thestil, triggering her mesmeric mirror trick, but smashing (and weakening) her, nonetheless.

Now that you have experienced it for a bit, those of you in Zaweeb's lab get the distinct impression that the nightmare pile is more just a psychic extension of Zaweeb's horrendous personality rather than a separate entity. It would be wise to concentrate efforts on him alone and that should suffice to ultimately quiet the nightmare pile.

Eremay moves near Rataji and Falth and says aloud “Thrice sworn by Aroden’s mercy.” She then continues to move telling the others "We need to lose the gap and finish him off! Strike him hard Falth!"

Falth:
When Eramay moves toward you and speaks aloud about "Aroden's mercy", it triggers something subliminally in you. Specifically, you enter a state of furious destruction for 3 rounds. Your deadly weather domain ability is automatically triggered, and all critical threats in this area are automatically confirmed. Once during this period, you can cast shatter (CL 8th, DC 15) as a move action. At the end of this period, these effects and any active judgment you have immediately end. Enjoy.

Everyone, feel free to read my spoiler. GM, is the nightmare pile susceptible to shatter, and if I understood correctly, there are many other levers in the room, right?

There are a series of controls for the platforms located at the blue dot. Unfortunately, the nightmare pile is basically invincible. Neutralizing Kar Zaweeb seems to be the only solution for it.

Thanks Eramay. I would attempt to get into melee, but it'll cost me a full round with burst of speed, and I'd still have to take out my pick. The effects only last 3 rounds and auto confirmed crits is too useful to not take complete advantage of.

Falth's eyes suddenly come alive with fire as Eramay speaks the words Aroden's mercy. He turns back and scowls at her. "What did you just say?!" He clenches his fists as rage and fury takes over his mind and body. He then points above Zar Kaweeb and a storm of billowy black clouds trembling with thunder and lightning materialize. I'll choose howling winds for this round.

"MOVE THE LEVER DOWN. NOW!" Falth sharply commands as he wickedly stares at the lever, waiting for someone to push it down before creating a loud rattle that seems to emanate from deep in his body, smashing it to pieces. Shatter as move action

Finally, he turns to Zar Kaweeb and launches a particularly vicious shot while shouting. "DIE!"

I shall see if I can help next door" Shohiraj mutters to the spider like beast before moving off into the next room and taking a good look at the platforms and controls, looking for the right lever to move them.

I think I can move up to the blue dot and survey the controls to see if I can find a way to mess with Zar-Kaweeb

Shohiraj leaves the dirty work for the Neh-Thalggu and joins Rataji at the control panel. Rataji downs his potion and reconsiders his next move.

DC 25 Disable Device or Perception check next to control panel:
Someone adjacent to the control panel can choose to raise or lower a feature as a move action, though doing so is at first a matter of trial and error; randomly determine which of the twelve features moves. If they succeed at a DC 25 Disable Device or Perception check, they can piece together which control affects the feature she wants to move.

Left behind, Aaog-Shagga skitters back and unleashes a volley of arcane missiles at the fleshy mound, becoming visible again. The blob undulates in pain and coils up for its massive slam attack.

In the main room, Eramay cries out and activates her companion's dark secret. Thestil lets a dart fly at the creature. It fails to strike true and deliver its psychic poison.

Bursting forward, the fleshy pile lashes out at Aaog, but only manages to topple the machinery to either side.

Falth stands in the fray, a sudden storm forming and whirling around his statuesque form to fill the room. He calmly raises his bow and lets loose a single shot that penetrates the violent winds and impales Zaweeb between the eyes. The still burning Zaweeb screams in agony but directs his next spell directly at Falth.

Falth, DC 20 will save or lose your actions next round

The nightmare pile screams out at Falth, forcing his ears to bleed, and then hurls another glob of acid at Falth and Rataji, catching Shohiraj by pure chance.

Shohiraj takes a look at the control panel and quickly ascertains which lever affects which platform, then whispers to Rataji "looks pretty standard right? let everyone know they can have any platform wherever they want - and maybe wave a hand at this panel like you magic'd it or something".

Aogg-Shagga grits back once again, then coughs a blob of acid from behind his rows of teeth. He catches the acid, however, and suspends it between his claws. The blob twists and pulses until it finally forms the shape of an arrow and flies at the nightmarish imitation of Joliryn.

Shohiraj quickly works out the levers, and with Rataji's ruse in play, slowly lowers Kar Zaweeb down to floor level. Assuming this was the plan

In the other room Aaog-Shogga has trouble lining up his target in such close quarters and wastes his acidic arrow on the walls. The creature responds by smashing feebly back at him and failing to grab hold. do need a DC 19 fort save from Aaog for disease

Eramay and Thestil position for battle as Zaweeb lowers to them. Thestil unleashes glitterdust again...and Kar Zaweeb barely escapes from its effects.

Instead of Zaweeb, Falth shoots wildly at an unseen foe. This is greater oneiric horror, so you lose a point of STR damage but do get a new save (DC 20 will) to act normally next turn, you also get swift and free actions if desired

Kar Zaweeb shakes his head as the platform lowers. He nonchalantly casts a spell toward Falth and Rataji and then leaps off the platform to engage in melee. (Need a DC 21 Will and DC 21 Fort save from both of you). The nightmare pile lashes out at Thestil and once again strikes true with its tangled barbs of metal.

Shohiraj pauses near the controls. Rataji recognizes the spell and starts to warn Falth. I'll give Falth a +4 bonus to his will save to disbelieve. Aaog shuffles backward and turns invisible. Eramay moves into striking position. Thestil whips her blade at Zaweeb furiously, wounding him with each strike. The pile screams out at Thestil.

The fleshy blob inches forward (seemingly ignoring Aaog's disappearance) and strikes but fails to connect through his armored hulk. Falth remains locked in his myriad experiences.

Kar Zaweeb steps back to lock Thestil into the same webbed fever dream (provoking for casting from Eramay). The pile of refuse weakly sprays acid upon Thestil.

Just as Kar Zaweeb steps backs to cast her psychic webs upon Thestil, Eramay suddenly appears and strikes the aranea down with a well targeted blow. The mastermind falls to the ground unceremoniously. The nightmare pile lurches forward at Eramay but with a squelched scream collapses into myriad shadowy pieces as the strength of Zaweeb's consciousness ceases to power it.

Shohiraj races to the downed creature's side. Rataji unleasehes his acid blast on the unconscious foe. (Or let me know if you would withhold it now that he is unconscious)

Aaog-Shogga flattens his hulking form and squeezes past the blob underneath, but is surprised when it continues to attack his invisible form. It tries to latch on but Aaog spins away. Aaog can now see that Zaweeb has fallen in the next room. His brain must be mine, he thinks.
