Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

I am leaving for vacation to North Carolina tomorrow evening and I will be gone until the 4th of October. I should still be able to update every day, but some days might prove inconsistent.

Xerxes of Aiur |

Alright, let's talk business. How much gold do we have?
Xerxes could use two +1 adamantine short swords (or better, depending on how much gold we have), some feather step slippers, as well as a cloak of protection. If we have more, perhaps a swarmbane clasp would be great too?

EndlessForms |

Eh-hem:
Just to save you some coin, I f&!*ing hate swarms and as long as I'm already adjusting this AP on the fly and removing encounters I don't think will be fun, you can rest assured that there won't be any swarms to worry about.

Xerxes of Aiur |

Alright, thanks for letting us know! They're a real PITA, especially when you don't have someone to cast AoE damaging spells in the group.

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

After paying off Squib and cutting the crew into 20% of the profits, we each have 11,055 GP.
I marked items that need to be given out still.
Amulet of Natural Armor +1: No idea who has this. Sh'yl?
Slippers of Spider Climbing: Anyone want? Francis doesn't care for them.
Fan Feather Tokens: Keep em?
Zul: I think Karter will make the best use of Zul unless someone else wants it. The Immediate Action, No Save Dex Damage on hit is pretty awesome. (Looked up the value of the trident on Archives of Nethys in case no one wants it).
Vindictive Harpoon: If Karter takes Zul, do we need to keep this weapon anymore?
---
I believe we also have another ship at our disposal and a rather large crew of silurians and other ragamuffins. Should we name the second ship and add it to our fleet?
Also, would it be possible to retrofit the Millenium Yak with a forge or crafting area and recruit blacksmiths or something? On board crafters and the like would be helpful. I can take the Leadership feat at level 9 to illustrate that Francis is pulling in stronger crew members or finding ways for our existing crew to evolve. His cohort would obviously be First Mate Pudding. :D
---
We can pool our funds to get everyone what they want, I believe. If a Free Captain wants to keep his own share separate, then that is fine. We are pirates after all.
Francis only wants a Headband of Wisdom +2 at this point. 4,000 GP
-Offensive bump for spells per day and power of spells; Defensive bump for Will Save.
Xerxes wants two Adamantine +1 Psyblades, Feather Step Slippers 12,000 GP
-Offensive increase to keep on par with Karter's weaponry. Utility increase with the Feather Step Slippers.
Sh'yl looks to have the least gear, but upgrading four lightsabers seems... expensive. Any thought to taking Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Sh'yl? Become our resident craftsman.
Karter's upgrades would be for defense?

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

Loot Sheet is updated, btw.
Also, Francis can handle the swarms pretty easily, I think. :D
Oh and I offloaded stuff like misc. daggers and armor to "the crew", aka just deleted it off the sheet.

Sh'yl M'sshakul |

Yes, Sh'yl has the amulet of natural armor.
one magical saber will be good, other weapons need to be only masterwork.
Dexterity and wisdom bonus will be great for Sh'yl also when you cast mage armor Sh'yl will be gladly the recipient of such a spell.
For the rest, wand of cure light wounds will be great for the team as a wand of bless

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

Who's who on the Millennium Yak:
Francis: Captain
Pudding (yak): first mate
Xerxes (protoss): master at arms
Sh'yl (kasatha): chaplain

Hartshorn (gorn): simpleton and “pet” of Karter; job: bodyguard
Conchobhar Shortstone (gnome): gambler; job: aide
Rosie Cusswell (halfling): foul-mouthed; job: aide
Sandara Quinn: cleric of the 'verse; job: ship's medic
“Ratline” Rattsberger (halfling): a rat-faced half ling with long arms and three missing fingers; job: head engineer
Barefoot Samms Toppin: a former fisherwoman from the Delta Quadrant who never wears shoes; job: head rigger

Giffer Tibbs (gnome): bedraggled with one eye; job: head swab
Aretta Bansion: a bad tempered ex-harlot with big ears; job: swab
Jaundiced Jape (half-orc): a humorless and greedy mute; job: swab
Other Additions:
Silurian Spacecraft - Worth 12,000 GP (Keep or Sell?)
Indeterminate Silurian Crew Members
---
Crew we need (in my opinion):
Smith to craft gear and parts for us, the ship and the crew.
Arcane Crafter to provide help with magical problems and work on any potential items we may need.
A sub-engineer for Mr. Ratline
Any additions recommended by the Free Captains.

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

Going through the Captain's Log. We missed a stash of gold and +1 items. Added those to the list.
Found other stuff we didn't add to the list, such as a Wand of Web and a Ring of Animal Friendship.
Francis wants the ring if no one objects. Probably best to sell the Wand for about ~500 GP per person.
Total Gold per person @ 11,949 GP
---
Current Monetary Desires:
Francis wants a Headband of Wisdom +2 and a Rod of Extend, Lesser. 7,000 GP
-Offensive bump for spells per day and power of spells; Defensive bump for Will Save. Rod will let me cast Mage Armor on Sh'yl and myself for the whole day.
Xerxes wants two Adamantine +1 Psyblades, Feather Step Slippers ~12,000 GP
-Offensive increase to keep on par with Karter's weaponry. Utility increase with the Feather Step Slippers.
-Sell +1 Psyblade?
Sh'yl wants two +1 lightsabers, two masterwork lightsabers, Headband of Wisdom +2, Belt of Dexterity +2 ~12,600 GP
-Offensive bump from the weaponry upgrade, increased spell casting and will save from headband, increased offense and defense from belt.
Karter wants ?
Group wants Wand of CLW and Wand of Bless 1,500 GP / 375 GP per person.

Re: Leadership and crafting crew
I like the idea and I think the feat is a good trade-off. To represent that you have to pay the crew (and aren't crafting it yourselves), they can make things for you at 75% of the normal cost rather than the usual 50% for crafting. Because we use it to represent hiring several crafting crew members they can basically craft anything you want so it saves you from having to take multiple crafting feats by just taking Leadership once.

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

Pending issues:
What does Karter want to buy?
Should we sell the Silurian Spacecraft for an easy 12,000GP (+2,400 GP per person)?
Does the Ring of Animal Friendship offer a save? If so, I vote we sell it as the save would be DC 11 (pitiful) and we can get about 5,000 GP from it, otherwise if it is no save, then it seems useful enough to keep around.
Since Francis isn't going to spend all his cash, he will loan out cash to anyone who goes over and will just take it off the top of their next payout.

Xerxes of Aiur |

Xerxes would love to get the upgrades you'r suggesting, and will gladly pass next time to favor other people, like Francis, who upgraded less this time. Actually now that I'm thinking about it, I could do with only one adamantine blade, and have the other one in silversheen, which would be a lot less expensive, and more versatile in terms of bypassing DRs. The slippers are definitely awesome.
+1 adamatine psyblade: 5010 gp
+1 silversheen psyblade: 2760 gp
feather step slippers: 2000 gp
I'm in favor of selling the Silurian ship (unless we have a specific plan for it, such as starting a fleet of our own), as well as the animal friendship ring (I think there's a save, which is usually offset by the fact that animals have poor Will saves).

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

Talked with GM, yeah there is a save. At DC 11, it will work never with Mike's rolls!
+3,480 GP/person after selling the ship and the ring.
Total Gold per person @ 15,429 GP
---
Loot Sheet is down for me. Trying to find the problem, but I can't get in my Drive for some reason.

Xerxes of Aiur |

Alright, so that leaves me another 5,659 gp to work with. I think that a cloak of resistance +2 would come in handy, especially with those poor Will saves of mine. That's another 4,000 gp off the top of my head. I'll keep the rest in the bank for now.

Xerxes of Aiur |

A quick post to let you know that I'll be away for one week, with few possibilities to post. I'll be visiting New York from Monday 12th to Tuesday 19th. Please bot me accordingly.

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

The good thing about Zul is that it does no-Save 1d4 Dex damage on hit seven times a day. That's also the reason it is so expensive. If no one is going to use it, then we should sell it, but we should really use it if we can.
Updated Spreadsheet with a list of the crew and their take-home pay from the profits of our travels!

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

Updated with the sale of the Vindictive Harpoon. ~2100 GP to everyone.
Anyone wanna RP with the new crew or me or anything? :(
Also, Karter, you still need to buy gear.

Hi everyone, I'm back from my honeymoon trip to New York!

Xerxes of Aiur |

I did, thanks! We had a wonderful time there. Greenwich village is such a wonderful neighborhood to stay at!

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

@Karter: Added your gear to the Loot Spreadsheet. You missed the Masterwork Cost on your armor, so I factored that in for you. (150GP)

EndlessForms |

Update:
I'll be leaving for Florida tomorrow to work on our fields down there for at least a week, probably closer to 10-11 days. While I'm there I won't be able to post as often as I normally do so my games might be running a little slow. I'll do my best to keep up though!

Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |

Giving a shout out to the Free Captains. Had a single day where all of us posted (Dec. 31st), but I've been the only one to post since then and it has been nine days.
What is everyone's thoughts on this? We are in Book 3 and can kick butt through the AP if everyone gets back to our previous post rate.

EndlessForms |

I would also like to see this game pick up the pace again. We made great time through books 1 and 2 but have been stalled in book 3 for way too long and it's only partly due to the sandbox nature of book 3 which makes it hard for me to push the action too much. Mostly we've been moving slow because I haven't been seeing too many posts or much engagement from the other players.
If you've lost interest in the game, aren't interested in continuing, or aren't able to pick up the pace, don't feel bad about dropping out. I can find a replacement and while I would hate to see any of you go, I also don't want this game to die so if replacing someone is in the best interest of the group, I'm willing to ask around.

Xerxes of Aiur |

Actually, my lack of posting has two reasons. The first is that I don't check the boards as often as I once did - but I'm definitely very attached to this campaign and would like to continue, so count on me to post more often.
The second reason is that Xerxes isn't really a social person and hasn't got great skills to beckup constructive social interaction. This is combined to the fact that I don't remember very well all the scenario intrications since the beginning of the third book (basically since the start of the investigation part), and I'm a bit lost on who's who and what we're supposed to do. I'll do some reading of the last few pages of posts to catch up as soon as I can.

That's party the fault of the third book (and perhaps partly my fault as well). In my opinion, the third book is a little all over the place and has way too many steps and too many useless NPCs to get you to where you need to be at the end of the book. In retrospect, I should have bypassed some of them and just pushed the story along but I couldn't really think of a way to do it. But even reading through the book as the GM I had a hard time keeping everything straight so I think that's just a problem of the third book.
Hopefully we can soon get to a more linear plot development though and then things will be easier to follow.

Xerxes of Aiur |

Allow me to summarize the story so far (in this scenario, not the whole AP) then, since I've just finished rereading posts 700 to 915.
If you don't care about the details, there's a TL;DR at the end.
- We became Free Captains by earning the recognition of the Nebula King, Kerdak Bonefist (and his henchman Tsadok Goldtooth) through verious trials. While celebrating our new title, we took part in a massive bar brawl where we captured Captain Harrigan's girl, Caulky Tarroon. After much mutilation, a message to Harrigan, and a moral conflict, we let her go.
- We were contacted by the prestigious Captain Tessa Fairwind, one of the most powerful Free Captains and a good candidate to become the next Nebula Queen, who fears annexation by the Empire. According to her, rumors say that an invasion could be imminent, fueled by spy-provided intelligence. She wishes to replace the current Nebula King and have us as hre allies, rising to the Pirate Council. In order to set her plan into motion, she needs us to investigate these rumors. The first clue is the House of Stolen Kisses on Quent, where the harlot-priestess Dindreann could help us. The second lies in the Temple of the Hidden Name, the lair of poisoners on the Beachcomber town (planet Bag). The poisoners know of many secrets, including the spies who allegedly prepare the Empire invasion. Captain Fairwind paid us 30,000 gp, and will pay us 40,000 gp when we come back to her with the information she seeks.
- The House of Stolen Kisses's priestess sent us on an errand before she would divulge any information, asking us to find a gold-plated wasp statue known as the Golden Vespal. It was aboard the Lady's Sting, a ship belonging to the House of Stolen Kisses that went missing recently. We could recover the statue by tracking the wreckers who took that ship.
- Following up on that lead, we went to Beachcomber and found a spaceship called the Shining Star, which turned out to be an illusion created to wreck us on local reef. After a tough fight against the Klingons ambushing us (especially their spellcaster captain), we recovered the Golden Vespal. We returned it to the House of Stolen Kisses, where the harlot-priestess revealed that Jaymiss Keft, one of the House's patrons, claimed to know of spies.
- Jaymiss Keft revealed the name of the alledged Imperial spy, Haddon Pike. That man, a smuggler by trade, turns out to have been killed recently. In his cottage, we found his dead, half-eaten body as well as the music sheets for an Imperial opera. Investigating those, we learned that the music sheet was a code to encrypt information on Drenchport, where the Master of Gales was apparently spied upon. It also contained the name of a contact, Roweena Kellet in Hell Harbor on the planet of Devil’s Arches. That lass is the quartermaster of the local Free Captain, Arronax Endimyon, a former Imperial admiral and current lord of Hell Harbor. Roweena has recently gone missing.
- After investigating the two warehouse Roweena used, we found a ledger listing the names of numerous major pirate lords, each with a large number beside it. Of these names, one stands out: Arronax Endymion, whose entry has only a dash rather than a number. Scribbled at the bottom of one page is a single line: send with Corlan. That Corlan is a smuggler.
- At Corlan's house, we see him being shot by a sniper. We catch the sniper, a man named Giles who was employed by a woman called Zarski Galembar of the Jasperleaf Cartel. Turns out he also killed Haddon Pike and Roweena Kellet. All were part of the same spy network, apparently controlled by the Jasperleaf Cartel and that woman Zarski Galembar. Thanks to our medical skills, Corlan was saved.
- As far as we know, Harrigan isn't connected to that cartel.
- The Jasperleaf Cartel is the next step of our investigation. Apparently we can access their lair by asking for 'two pounds of powdered thileu bark' at the apothecary - a code phrase to quickly obtain admittance into a secluded meeting room.
-------------
TL;DR
We are on a lucrative mission for Captain Tessa Fairwind, who would like to replace the current Nebula King. To that end, she needs evidence of a rumored Imperial invasion, which could be provided by Imperial spies. The spies were killed one by one, until we could stop the assassin and get him to reveal that he was paid by Zarski Galembar of the Jasperleaf Cartel, who apparently wanted to clean up her own spies. We are provided with a code phrase allowing us into the Cartel's lair.
EF, please let me know if I got anything wrong!

EndlessForms |

Yes, that looks like a perfect summary. Couldn't have done it better myself. As I said, this book just has far too many NPCs that come and go and the web gets too complicated without taking really good notes.
I'm back from my trip to Florida but then we drove to Indiana this morning to be with my family for the three-day weekend. I'm hoping to catch up on all my games this weekend and get back to a normal posting schedule this week.

Xerxes of Aiur |

Glad it's helping, it took a while but it feels good to be in possession of all the meaningful pieces of information! Onwards, fellow adventurers!

EndlessForms |

Yeah, so far I have liked book 1 so much more than this one. This middle section is just way too hard to follow. Even as I was reading it to prep it I had to make a little flow chart myself.

Xerxes of Aiur |

I'll post as soon as I can from work, but my computer just died. Posting may be a little irregular until I get a new one. Well done Sh'yl, by the way!
