Maaarv Bergavsten |
Maaarv picks up and looks at the Morningstar carried by one of the harpies, but drops it on the ground. "Not much use...shouldn' be surprised."
He wanders around the chamber before remembering his previous interest in the basin and accompanying strange figure. Maaarv stares at the tentacled creature.

"Search the place. There may be clues that will point to what was really going on here." Ackuda says, eyeing the ruins with interest. He turns to the statue and stands next to Maaarv.

Ackuda and Vasilios recognize the statue as the nascent qlippoth lord Yamasoth.
Ackuda recognizes the piece around the statue's neck is part of an Acrimony Veil. The device is clearly incomplete, as there are catches and grooves suggesting that other pieces must fit onto it.
The doorway to the north has been knocked down and the small, irregularly-shaped room behind contains little more than debris from the smashed barrier, ages-old dust, and a shaft descending into the darkness.
EndlessForms |
Not much information is given in the scenario, so Lords of Chaos to rescue!
Yamasoth is possibly the original qlippoth that was experimented upon leading to the genesis of demonkind. Yamasoth's unholy symbol is a jagged circle containing three eyes and six spiralling arms radiating out from its edge. Yamasoth rules over the Kingdom of New Flesh, a large part of the Abyssal realm of Sekatar-Seraktis. Thirteen other powerful demons war over the control of this realm but seem to leave Yamasoth to his experiments. The results of these experiments inhabit his kingdom. More evidence of a qlippoth nature is in Yamasoth's bizarre appearance: a basis of an octopus or large squid is perverted by extra tentacles and eyes. A large mouth contains an extra eye in the throat, which only opens in combat to release a gaze attack turning victims wild and monstrous. A common factor in his physical make up is the ability to cause pain: teeth, stinging tongues, and the termination of every tentacle with each one boasting a different way of inflicting pain. Runelord of Wrath, Alaznist was allied to Yamasoth when the demon lord lived in Gongorina.
Ackuda |
"Qlippoths, yes. Nasty beings. Primal in nature. Above all, they seek the extermination of all mortals." Ackuda says. "We'll have to study this further afterwards, but first, it appears our path goes... down." he says, looking towards the shaft.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Maaarv circles around to the south side of fountain. "Hey guys, I wonder what's behind this door!"
He opens the door with careless abandon. "I'm sure nothing bad could be back here, right?"
EndlessForms |
Ok, I'm back! Chem final was. . . well, it's over. Let's just say that.
About the tokens: I have them set to be controlled by all players and they were working before. Roll20 was down this morning and it looks like they've done some updates but must still have some bugs. I'll switch over to Google Drive for the next map if it's not fixed immediately.
Maaarv opens the door to reveal that at the southeastern corner of this room is a gruesome statue of a man. He is bare chested; scars, brands, and seeping wounds cover his exposed flesh. He stands with arms crossed, hands gripped tightly like a penitent. Blood oozes from his lacerations and he grits his teeth as though in excruciating pain, though the corners of his mouth turn up slightly, suggesting he derives some wicked pleasure from this perversion of his flesh. A strange mask made of iron covers the statue’s face, the metal etched with complicated sigils. A broad belt made of leather and adorned with copper disks girds the statue’s waist.
Barlor |

"This thing doesn't look natural. But it does look kinda familiar somehow." Barlor covers Ing's eyes as the boar lets out a squeal of curiosity.

"Well, this statue isn't the most...pleasant. But hey there, look! That mask looks like it'll fit on top of that broken-looking part of the statue out front. I wonder..."
The alchemist tries to climb up the statue and remove the iron mask from the gruesome statue.

Barlor and Maaarv notice that this statue is rigged to release a blast a superheated air if anyone touches it.
So I'll assume you don't go climbing on it then, lol.
Someone in my other game had the same problem with Roll20 yesterday midday but maybe they fixed the bug by now. No problems on my end but the GM also has ultimate power.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
The alchemist steps back from the statue and places his hands on his hips. "So, I guess we just leave the mask where it is? I don't wanna get cooked - not today, no thank you."
He leans over to get a better look at the statue out in the main chamber. "It's just that, in all the stories I've read of great Pathfinders of the past - there's usually some kind of cool secret revealed when missing pieces are returned to their rightful place."
He scratches his chin and taps his foot, "But maybe whoever rigged this thing had thought of that." He leans forward, back to the hideous penitent man statue. "I wonder..."

Anything useful?
Yanos |
(assuming I notice it as well or someone mentions that fact), I have a Dispel Magic we could try, or would a Enlarge Person -> 15ft reach Longspear help to avoid that?
EndlessForms |
@Yanos: the blast of air would likely fill the whole room
Yanos |
"If we really want the mask, I could take the brunt of it if you gentlemen would step outside. Or I could attempt to Dispel whatever magic is at play, if any. Or we could just come back later?"
I figure being higher level I have a better chance of surviving and could heal back up.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
"The belt seems to have some magical property or another. Hmm, if I could just get a closer look..." The alchemist stoops down in front of the statue, trying to examine the belt close enough to figure out what sort of magic it is enchanted with.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
GM - so, fill the whole room as in the large chamber, or just the little room that the statue is in?
Maaarv's curiosity gets the better of him and he tries to loosen the belt without disturbing the statue.
"Alright, I'm gonna go for this. Here," he hands Yanos a wand, "use this wand of curing on me if I muck this up." He rubs his hands together lightly. "Oh, and you all may want to back up."
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Hmm...not a great roll.
EndlessForms |
Just the room the statue is in. Assuming everyone else leaves the room.
I think you need detect magic in order to use Spellcraft to determine magical properties. I'll double check on that in a bit.
Maaarv moves up to loose the belt. Instantly the statue lets out a blast of hot air.
heat damage: 3d8 ⇒ (8, 4, 1) = 13
No save apparently.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
Maaarv reels from the blast. Once he gets his breath back, he mutters to himself, "Well, that could've gone better."
He checks himself over and calls out to Yanos. "Hey, I'm alright, just a bunch of hot air..." he tries to joke.
"Yanos, give me a couple taps with that wand."

Maaarv could have grabbed the mask too.
Ackuda detects no magic on the mask but recognizes the belt as a belt of giant strength +2.
Maaarv Bergavsten |
"Oh, thank you, Yanos. That healing is quite refreshing. But really, the next time I need healing on account of my foolishness, I insist that my wand be used."
Maaarv holds out the belt. "Anybody want this? Barlor? Yanos?"
Yanos |

I was in the room, too, so took the damage as well.

You can decide who gets belt for the duration of the scenario.
In the meantime, I believe the plan (really the only thing to do) was to go down the mysterious hole. . . luckily there's a ladder this time!
Everyone takes turns climbing down the ladder. The ceiling of this chamber is ten feet above, and its walls are covered with fading frescoes depicting a parade of cultists engaged in grisly acts of self-mutilation involving knives, scourges, and more bizarre implements. The depiction of the ground beneath the repugnant pageant seems to be composed of thick, snake-like tentacles whose appendages and tooth-filled orifices lick greedily at the blood cascading down from the cult figures. To the east, debris from a smashed wall is scattered, spilling into the hall.
Map should be updated now.
Barlor |
"You smell anything, smelly?" Barlor asks as he kicks at a pebble.
"This place gives me the back sweats."

I'll go ahead and move outside the room and take a look around. "Hello... Anyone down here?"
I have a Light source (the white circle around my mini), but I assume it is otherwise dark?
