Barlor
|
Barlor advances behind Maaarv and Yanos, then casts Stone Call on the harpies. Centered just in front of the harpies to make difficult terrain near us without hitting my allies.
damage: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
difficult terrain for 4 rounds, 40ft radius
Yanos

Sorry, it's a +2, not a +4. That's the green aura I have up on the map. It applies to everyone that is within that aura. For those that started there, they should be immune to the song completely. For the others, because they will be automatically drawn into my Circle, they should become immune as soon as they step into it, and get a free new save (with +2) to break the effect immediately). Again, assuming the Harpies are Evil.
| EndlessForms |
Yep, harpies are evil so your Magic Circle does the trick. Maaarv and Ing are immune (as long as they are in the circle I believe; if the harpies keep singing and they step away they'll have to make saves). Everyone else was not in the circle but as Yanos said they will get a new save at +2 when they enter his circle.
Yanos orders Drop to go after them but he has other plans. No progress. Yanos puts an arrow in one of them. Barlor creates a rain of stones on the harpies. On top of their perches they are unaffected by the terrain but the rocks hit them nonetheless.
Initiative:
1. Harpies
2. Barlor, Ackuda, Yanos, Maaarv, Vasilios
H1: 4 dmg
H2: 14 dmg
Ackuda and Maaarv are up! Ing hasn't done anything either but stepping away from Yanos will cause him to have to make a save.
Barlor
|
I didn't order Ing to do anything because he can't do anything. As far as I'm concerned he's pawing at the ground. If you think Ing, as a boar, would do something else, feel free to have him run about as you will.
Also, the difficult terrain was to slow my compelled allies, not to slow the harpies.
Ackuda

Will!
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Will again!
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Ackuda begins to walk towards the Harpies but once within Yanos' sphere of influence, he shakes it off. "There's no accounting for taste in music..." he mutters, and reaches into his sleeve, drawing forth his dice and rattling them in his hand. He points at Yanos, saying in a shrill voice, "The Chaos Cubes favor you!"
Use Fortune Hex on Yanos,

Aha, I wasn't able to access the map when I posted previously. Thank you Yanos! :-)
Maaarv feels a warmth from Yanos that seems to shield him from the harpies' song. He carefully eyes the two harpies, judging their distance.
"I'll see if I can stagger one of these things!" he shouts to his companions.
He moves into the center of the pillars, quickly mixes up a frost bomb and lobs it at Harpie 1.
Frost Bomb Attack vs. Touch: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 6 - 4 = 3 I figured the range to Harpy 1 from where Maaarv is is about 45 ft. - using the good old Pythagorean Theorem. So, the -4 is for the range increments.
And that all didn't matter when a 1 is rolled :-)
| EndlessForms |
@Maaarv: you'd have to make saves as soon as you exited Yanos' circle.
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Ackuda gives Yanos good fortune. Maaarv's bomb flies up into the air and then falls back down again, harmlessly hitting the ground beneath the pillar.
The second harpy continues to sing while the first harpy swoops down and hits Maaarv with her morningstar while flying from one pillar to another.
morningstar flyby attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Initiative:
1. Harpies
2. Barlor, Ackuda, Yanos, Maaarv, Vasilios
H1: 4 dmg
H2: 14 dmg (captivated Maaarv and Vasilios)
You guys are up!

I'll draw and attack #2 again (unless someone else gets her before my turn).
Longbow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Fortune Hex on Att: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
While Drop, still being an anarchist, continues to attempt to climb down to what he thinks are his new friends.
"Bad Drop, Bad. Get back up there and watch our backs or no goblin candy. I mean it. Get back up there!"
Drop's Climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Drop's Climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Maaarv Bergavsten

Ah, I misunderstood. Maaarv still has the earplugs in, but he still would've come up short on that second save. What does being captivated entail?
Barlor
|
Barlor chants a few druidic words and rubs his fingers together, and a fireball erupts from his hand. He turns to face the harpies.

Ackuda
|
Ackuda, sticking close to Yanos, spins to follow the Harpy that attacked Maarv, and chuckles, then squints one eye shut as he points at her.
Cackle to extend Fortune on Yanos, Evil Eye Hex on Harpy to give -2 to Saves for 8 rounds, or 1 round with a DC 16 Will save.
Yanos
|
Reroll because of Yanos?
1d20+7Nope, harpies still own me.
As long as you are inside the circle, it is automatically stopped, but kicks back in if you leave. Entering the circle also give you a single free Save with the +2 to totally break it.
| EndlessForms |
@Yanos: I think because the compulsion began while they were outside of the circle the circle just gives them a new save. If they fail that save they are still captivated. Only those who were in the circle to begin with and then remain in the circle are immune (or someone who walks in the circle and makes their save and then stays there).
Yanos puts another arrow into the singing harpy. Vasilios and Maaarv continue to walk towards the singing harpy.
@Maaarv: you basically just spend your turn moving towards it by any means possible and then stand there while it pummels you.
Barlor produces a flame in his hand while Ackuda laughs and gives the first harpy a nasty look.
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
The second harpy continues to sing while the first performs another fly-by attack on Yanos.

Yanos puts an arrow into the other harpy that has been harassing him. Barlor tosses a ball of flame at the singing harpy and hits, although it continues to sing.
@Vasilios: I moved you based on double movements over last round and this one. You are at the base of the pillar where the harpy is sitting.
Initiative:
1. Harpies
2. Barlor, Ackuda, Yanos, Maaarv, Vasilios
H1: 9 dmg
H2: 30 dmg (captivated Maaarv and Vasilios)
Ackuda is up!
Maaarv Bergavsten

I moved Maaarv because I forgot he should've double-moved for his one round of captivation. I guess he needs to try a climb check on his next round?
Ackuda
|
Ackuda ducks as the Harpy flies by, but despite a small growl, he continues his laughter, shaking his dice at the first Harpy.
Cackle to continue Fortune on Yanos and Evil Eye on Harpy 1, then use Misfortune Hex on Harpy 1. DC 16 Will negates.
| EndlessForms |
Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
@Vasilios and Maaarv: yep, you'll have to start climbing up to it this round.
The harpy resists Ackuda's hex. The second one continues singing while the first one once again flies by Yanos swinging its morningstar.
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

I hope you took difficult terrain into account for their movements thus far.
Also, does climbing count as a dangerous circumstance, granting a new save?
Barlor throws more flames at his target.

Maaarv makes an attempt to shimmy up the column, trying to reach the harpy. "What a voice! Like an angel!"
Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Double move, so that's why I put in the two checks.
Vasilios

climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Vasilios hums along with whatever tune they are singing.
Next level may have to be ranger with favored enemy harpies, they just cripple Vasilios...

Barlor tosses more fire at the nearby harpy. Yanos fires at the singing harpy but his arrows go wide. Maarv tries to climb but is unsuccessful. Vasilios is likewise having a hard time climbing.
Yeah, harpies cripple most parties, especially if there are more than one. It can just take several people out of the fight. Favored enemy (monstrous humanoid) would cover a lot of monsters actually.
Initiative:

H2: 30 dmg (captivated Maaarv and Vasilios)
Ackuda is up!

Ackuda grumbles, but renews his hexes nevertheless, and flicks his wrist, causing a wand to slip into his hand. He touches Yanos with it.
Cackle to extend Fortune on Yanos and Evil Eye on Harpy 1. Use Cure Light Wounds wand on Yanos. 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Drawing another arrow, I'll try my poor luck one more time, still aiming at Harpy 2.

Sorry Barlor; I assumed #1 since it was closer. I've moved the damage around.
Ackuda heals up Yanos, laughing the whole time. The second harpy continues to sing while the first flies down on Yanos once more.
morningstar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Yanos then puts an arrow into the singing harpy and it falls from its perch! And Maaarv and Vasilios are no longer captivated!
Initiative:
1. Harpy
2. Barlor, Ackuda, Yanos, Maaarv, Vasilios
H1: 9 dmg
Barlor, Ackuda, Maaarv, and Vasilios are up!
Maaarv Bergavsten

Maaarv shakes his head as he comes out of his harpy-induced stupor. "Achk! Foul harpies~" He turns his head and sees the remaining harpy on top of one of the columns. "Lemme see if I can get a closer shot!" He closes the distance between himself and the harpy, coming within 10 feet of the column.
He again mixes up a frost bomb and lobs it at the flying beast, swinging his arm over his head.
Frost Bomb + PBS: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 1 = 20
Cold Damage: 2d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 3 + 1 = 9
If that is a hit, DC 15 Fortitude Save or be staggered for 1 round.
Barlor

Barlor throws his fire at the remaining harpy, pleases with the results thus far.
fire: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12, damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Vasilios blinks a few times, an anger many in this world have not seen erupts. His vampire heritage breaks from the moral cage it normally is locked into and he shows his fangs.
They are like a disease that needs to be purged! Come forth to meet your end! By my boot I promise thou art to be disemboweled and your innards used to decorate that blasted pillar you enjoy so! He wanders over to each harpy body, examining them for anything interesting.
"Good point, Ackuda. However, if they have been in here for quite a while, they may carry something to explain how they could remain in here for so long..." He kneels down over one of the harpies. "I hope you don't mind if I give them a thorough search..."
