Welcome back everyone! We'll start with Part II in a day or so. Give me a bit of time to get settled and glance through it and then we'll continue on.

Sorry for the delay in starting. There has been a death in the family and I've been scrambling to get as much done as possible so I can leave tomorrow to go home for a while. I'll update as soon as possible, perhaps tomorrow afternoon after I drive home.

Whoah, whoah, whoah.
#1 - Take care of yourself.
#2 - Take care of your family and others that may be affected by this loss.
#3 - Take whatever time you need to process/grieve.
#4 - Don't worry about us. Refer to #1-#3.
Honestly, my thoughts are with you at this time. I lost my dad in October, and everyone needs to grieve in his or her own way.

Thanks everyone. My grandpa has been declining for a while now. I just got home a few hours ago and will be home until Wednesday but I shouldn't be too busy, really.
Gameplay thread is open, so have at it. No faction missions this time, which I'm excited about. I've never been a fan of most faction missions, especially the ones that seem particularly arbitrary. Ready for the Season 5 change.

What are the changes in season 5 relating to faction missions? I know they are phasing out two of the factions, but I hadn't heard anything specific about how the missions are handled being changed.

My Condolences Mike. I've lost all of my grandparents, so I can empathize.
TPO Seelah, they're doing away with the standard, "I want you to do this" format and going towards a more general "here are our faction goals for the season," and leaving it up to individuals (and GMs) to determine how to help with those goals. At least, that's how I understood it. I could be a bit off.
Ok, so let's don't die. Let's kill baddies. Let's walk away with 2 more PP. Let's do this!
EndlessForms
Basically if you succeed the mission you get 2 PP.
Phos is basically right. The last I heard, there might still be occasional faction missions, but not every time for every faction. It will only be when a specific faction has a specific interest in the upcoming mission. That way they won't have to come up with contrived ones when a certain faction wouldn't really have much interest in a mission. The second PP will be determined more by achieving overall faction season goals and by going "above and beyond" proving yourself a worthy Pathfinder.

Sorry for the slow responses, still at home with my family. I'll be heading back to Bloomington on Wednesday and things should pick up again then. Thanks for being patient, everyone.

No sweat sir. Bloomington? Indiana? Illinois?
I think he's in Bloomington, Indiana. So I'm kind of in the middle of you all. :)
I did have a question for those more familiar with PFS play. I've started running some friends through a weekly game at home, trying to get used to the system from a GM side before I try to do anything to shape up the local presence, and I've run into a rules question I can't find the answer for.
I know that any loot found during a module is forfeit at the end, kind of flowing into the chronicle sheet. But there are scenarios where it states at the end of the encounter "The GM should award each player XXX for the encounter." Is that treated separate from the chronicle and the players keep that gold?
I found this while trying to find an answer, coming from the 4.3 version of the PFS guide:
"At the completion of each encounter during a scenario, your GM will award each player a set amount of gold that reflects that player’s share of the potential loot (though not all encounters will have treasure rewards). This gold piece total can fluctuate depending on what you accomplished and how you accomplished it. We assume that you have enough bags, backpacks, or muscle to haul around the loot you find or, in the case of an urban scenario, immediate access to markets and bazaars where you can sell your goods."
So, do they keep the encounter rewards above and beyond what gold they are given on their chronicle sheet?
"Phos"
|
The gold listed at the end of each encounter just the portion of the total gold from the scenario that they receive from that encounter. e.g. if the chronicle sheet says that a player should receive 1000gp for the scenario, but players did not successfully overcome an encounter, and that encounter awarded them 200gp, the players would only receive 800gp at the end of the scenario. You would circle then mark through the 1000gp, and write 800gp in the wealth gained box. Does that answer your question?

Makes sense. I was stumped on that one and it didnt help that when I tried to add up all of the encounter rewards across a number of scenarios, none of the numbers matched up, which just made it that much more difficult!
Since you are so brilliant, I've another one for you! :)
I've started them off with series 0 and 1 scenarios, since I'm trying to work through anything that might eventually be phased out. They didn't want to level too quickly as a group, so we started level 1 out using the slow track for everyone. In series 3, gold rewards are different based on your advancement track, but from series 0-2 they don't specify. Should I be reducing their reward or is that just something that is handled in a new way in series 3?
EndlessForms
Slow advancement is half gold, half XP, and half PP. So if they normally would have gotten 1000 GP, 1 XP, and 2 PP, slow track would give them 500 GP, 0.5 XP, and 1 PP.
And as Phos said, the gold after each encounter is just in case people want to spend money mid-game or to subtract if people don't complete all the encounters. The numbers don't always add up because it's sometimes possible to skip an encounter and get full gold. For example, if you run away from an encounter worth 100 GP but all the other encounters are worth 1200 GP total but the "max gold" listed on the chronicle sheet is 1000 GP, the characters still win 1000 GP even though they skipped one encounter.
EndlessForms
No problem. Hope things slow down. If you can, try to play Part 2 with the same character next so you can get the boon!
EndlessForms
Hey everyone! I should have time to update tomorrow afternoon/night but then I will be in Chicago for the weekend running a half-marathon and likely won't be able to update again until Monday at the earliest.
Thanks for your patience!
EndlessForms
Ok, I'm back, everyone! Things should resume as normal and hopefully I can pick up the pace this week to make up for it! Thanks for being patient!
EndlessForms
You guys can give me your PFS numbers and make Day Job rolls while I'm thinking about it.
Durriya still has a few tricks up her sleeve but you've taken away her written tactics, which were to turn invisible and cast a minor image of herself to occupy you while she buffed up a bit.
Hopefully we'll finish in the next few days and then we can see if people would like to disband before GenCon or start another (realizing that your character will be tied up during GenCon). I'm fine with whatever.
Lady Seelah

Speaking of GenCon, who all is going to be going from the group? I'm sure I'm going to be seeing Mike B. on Wednesday night at the dinner so maybe I'll get to meet some of the Bloomington people later that night as well. :)
EndlessForms
I won't be at the dinner on Wednesday but I'll be GMing five or six games and hopefully playing the special. Bloomington will be providing quite a few GMs and a large player base since we're so close to Indy and have a large PFS community.
For those of you thinking of continuing, I had 3-26 Portal of the Sacred Ruin (7-11) in mind. If you want to bow out, that's fine. As long as I have four players interested I'll keep going (or find a replacement if I need to).

I guess I can keep trucking with the pre-gen. It is very unlikely I'll ever get anyone to 7 on play time anyway, always GM credit for me.
My GenCon schedule right now looks something like this:
Wed
5-6: Checkin
7-10: VC Dinner
Thur
8-12:PFS GM 101
1-6: Open
7-12:Player - The Wardstone Patrol
Fri
8-1:Player - The Veteran's Vault
1-5:PFS GM 201 - Practice Makes Perfect Workshop
7-12: Open
Sat
8-1:Player - Severing Ties
1-6:Open
7-12:Player - Bonekeep Level 2
Sun
9-2:Player - The Night March of the Kalkamedes
You running any of those? :) I got on too late as a VC to actually get to GM anything, the slots were already filled with volunteers.
EndlessForms
I'll post my GM schedule later, I can't remember it at the moment. I know I'm GMing Silent Tide, Black Waters, Haunting of Hinojai, and the Wardstone Patrol though.
EndlessForms
I guess those of you playing pregens don't need to worry about tying up a character during GenCon because if the pregen dies you can just apply it to a different number. I just didn't want to tie up Phos or Kuduro in another game if they intended to use those characters at GenCon.
Let me know if any of you have played 3-26 Portal of the Sacred Ruin (7-11) because that's the one I think I'll go with.
"Phos"

Eh, I have enough other characters that I would be covered at GenCon. I'm cool. and no, I haven't played that scenario yet. I'll check with tpo Solarious to see if he's interested in dropping in, if that's ok with you.
"Phos"

Oh yeah, Day job (Craft Bookbinding): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
Edit: I should start taking 10 on all Day Job rolls. I can't recall the last time I actually rolled higher than a 10 on a day job roll.

Just a note for everyone, my posting is about to drop considerably for the next few days. I'm preparing Day of the Demon for a convention this weekend today and am behind already. Tomorrow I'm off and I'm taking the finance on a little day excursion for her birthday, so I'll be without access all day. Saturday I'll be in full convention mode with no posting. Sunday should bring things back to normal.

FandomFest. Stan Lee, William Shatner, cast of Walking Dead and Firely, pretty big event for us. I think they said they were expecting 35k-50k attendees.
If you don't have anything going on for Saturday you should try to make it. I know a few people from the Cinci area are coming, including Randy Price who is running some scenarios for me. I have BOONS to win! :)
I guess I should say the same for the Bloomington people, since they aren't that far either.
EndlessForms
Since this fight should be over soon, I'll go ahead and give you your chronicle sheets:
Also, here is the link for Portal of the Sacred Rune for those of you joining me for that one. Someone can send the link along to Solarious as well if he would like to join.
