Lars Boulderstep |
Inside, Lars draws the blade and begins to inscribe runes on it. Making the blade harder and heavier fo it to inflicy more damage.
Casting Lead Blades.
Lars Boulderstep |
Thank you GM, I'll cast Bless. Every Bonus helps.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
The Ceustodaemon tries to make a sharp turn, but wobbles and opts for its 2nd choice in landing spots. As it crosses the barrier into the range of the hallow spell, it snarls horridly and a look of fear crosses its eyes as its defenses are stripped away. It unleashes its frigid breath, but immediately begins looking for a way out.
Shear, Enora, Viper, Kaa, and Reavis are caught in the blast
Breath Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 6, 5, 5, 2) = 22 cold damage
Reflex save DC 15 for half damage
Reavis and Shear are still in the aura and get +2 to the saving throw.

Karg Once-Bound |
Edit: Corrected (Confused nodachi and naginata) The damage dice of the nodachi increase to 2d8.
Viper also gets a +2 to Strength, -2 Dexterity, -1 to attacks and AC (from size). So the bonus to melee attacks will be the same, damage will be slightly higher.
Karg rushes at the daemon, almost circling around, hoping to get a solid blow in before it can escape.
Falchion Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 1 = 15 Edit, missed that bless had been cast.
Damage: 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 3) + 5 = 11
Reavis Smoot |
Reflex Save + Extra bonus from magic circle minus Cloak of Resistance: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 1 = 28
Reavis takes 11 damage, which eliminates his temporary hit points and does 2 real damage
The tiefling alchemist tosses another bomb at the blue daemon, leaving Karg out of the splash radius. Reavis has Precise Bombs
RTA Bomb at Blue + Mutagen + PBS + Bless: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Fire Damage: 3d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 6, 5) + 6 + 1 = 22
Reavis Smoot |
It looks like I had the wrong resistances posted on my status line, so he should have Cold Resistance instead of Acid Resistance. I'll correct that now, and he only takes 6 damage which comes all out of his temporary HP.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Fly: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 The 2nd Daemon is roughly as maeuverable as the first and finds itself forced to make an abrupt landing in order to strike his foe. It provokes an AoO from the snake as it lands clumsily in front of Reavis and bites at him.
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
...ineffectively. The overbearing aura doesn't seem to help his disposition either.
Shear the Eidolon |
Shear's movement is sluggish, but following the dodge from the breath weapon he powers through and charges straight at the daemon trying to strike it with all his strength.
Shear charges blue
Claw Attack with Power Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 + 2 = 6
But it doesn't swing fast enough to connect.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
In the interests of smoothness I'm going to go ahead and roll Viper and Kaa's AoOs so the rest of the group can make their decisions with all of the appropriate knowledge.
Kaa AoO on Brown: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 21
Viper AoO on Blue: 1d20 + 10 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 10 - 1 + 1 = 21
Both connect!

Coming out now, Lars takes up a flanking position and strikes out at the deamon with the nine ring broadsword, not magically enchanced to deal more damage.

Kaa and Viper attempt to evade the cold breath.

The daemon engaged with Karg takes a careful step back, then disappears through an extradimensional egress, reappearing at the edge of the aura.

The Man Behind the Curtain |
All of a sudden you hear a scream from the base of the dam and you see Yuzana leap out of hiding and begin running at full bore up the dam.
"They bleed! The angels bleed! You are no angels! Malikeen you have deceived me!"
From the bush she had been hiding in, you can see Arkar with the palm of his hand up against his face. He appears to be muttering something but you can't hear what he's saying over the din of combat.
Karg Once-Bound |
Karg frantically looks around for the deamon and just runs full speed at the daemon. He frantically looks between the two to decide which one to attack. He hesitates to run away from the shrine though and goes for the daemon that has yet to escape.
He yells back at Yuzana as he swings his falchion with all of his rage and frustration. "I told you that!"
Melee attack against brown: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Reavis moves to the eastern edge of the aura and tosses another bomb at the blue daemon.

Damage: 3d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1, 5) + 6 + 1 = 16
Potential Miss Square: 1 square between Reavis and target: 1d8 ⇒ 5
If that misses, the blue daemon needs to make a DC 16 Reflex save. If he fails, he takes 10 points of fire damage, if he succeeds he only takes 5 fire damage. Please let me know if takes any of the splash damage after resistance.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Karg deals a terrifying blow against one Ceustodaemon leaving it a bloody mess. On the other side of the field, Reavis's bomb strikes true. The daemon resists much of the blow, but all of its wounds pile up and it collapses in a flaming heap.
The final remaining daemon steps carefully away from the Karg's blade and attempts to retreat, provoking opportunity attacks from Lars and Enora.
Lars: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Enora: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
But neither connect and it steps out of the field, glaring at the party and noticing new potential prey.

The daemon lurches, then slumps to the ground.
Yuzana runs into the shrine, crying hysterically and begins kicking the display. "I've been deceived all these years... DECEIVED!!! You are no god! All of you are no angels!"
Arkar, seeing the last daemon fall, runs up the stairway as fast as his legs will take him. He says something in Minkaian that sounds like an attempt to calm her before continuing in common. "I said you're not angels. You said you're not angels. How can she be so surprised?"
Yuzana continues to desecrate the shrine and Arkar marches in, and yells something out in Minkaian that most likely is a command for her to stop. Yuzana falls to her knees and breaks down crying.
Arkar shakes his head sadly, then looks back at the party. "I had no idea these beasts were so deadly. We are no warriors, so even you seem like giants to us. You have saved our village at great risk to yourselves. I am sorry I spoke so harshly before. I was under great stress and blinded by bad experiences. I will have to explain my deceit to Yuzana when she calms, but for now let me fetch what you seek. It is here, in a hidden cave within the dam. I will bring it up for you."

"Really, it's kind of all in a day's work. Thanks for honoring your side of the bargain though." Reavis replies to Arkar with a shrug.
Karg Once-Bound |
Eventually Karg relents to Shear's mental request and walked over to Yuzuna to console her.
"It isn't as bad as you make it seem. We aren't angels. Malikeen is probably not a god so that is many prayers that weren't heard"
There is a pauses Shear prompts him harder to continue.
"But, if we had come before all this had started, we would have gotten what we needed and left. If we came later, the village might not be here anymore. The reincarnation of Malikeen had us sent here at the right time to save you and we couldn't have done it without whatever holy power is in this shrine."
He runs his hands over some old scars as he recalls his own painful memories. "I'm no priest, but that seems like as much as a miracle to me as anything."
Lars Boulderstep |
Lars stays silent and lets his companion console the silly woman.
What's she weeping for? We aren't angels in the very first place. Has the stress of living here addled her brains? he thiks to himself even as he makes to follow.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
After a few minutes, you hear Arkar yell something from down below and you feel a rumbling in the dam. Within a few seconds, several boulders from the base of the dam are shoved out of place and the water begins flowing through significantly faster. Arkar comes stumbling out of the hidden cave entrance, but the water level has risen. You see him on the far side of the river pointing frantically to the worker's hut with the elder farmers as it gets pummeled and overcome by the increased flow of the water. While the dam is breeched, it seems to be holding together structurally and holding back most of the flow, but the gaps have caused the river to rise in level and increase in speed, and while not to an incredibly dangerous speed, certainly enough to tear the small hut from its foundation.
Shear the Eidolon |
Shear shakes for a moment as he sees the water escaping the confines. For a moment he considers falling back, but looking at the situation Shear commands Karg for speed and Karg runs over to cast the a spell that gives Shear incredible speed.
The elemental runs across the dam, jumps down the stairs and makes a leap off of one of the landings to reach the hut as quickly as possible, attempting to outrace the rising water.
Karg casts expeditious retreat on Shear. Shear is attempting to make it to the hut in a single action, if possible, so as to be able to spend another action to offer assistance.
Lars Boulderstep |
Lars knows that wth his much shorter legs, he may not be in time to get to the hut.
Instead he rushes down to see if He could do anything to slow the waer flow down....
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Shear run at full speed and pushes into the hut just as the water level begins to rise to knee high. The two elders are in a panic and neither of them can seem to hold solid footing against the rushing water. The water floods in, rapidly engulfing the hut and Shear. One of the elders grabs hold of Shear and holds on for dear life as the hut is lifted off of its foundation. Steam begins to fill the hut as the water laps against Shear's fiery form.
Lars makes it most of the way down the steps to the first landing, but it is fairly apparent that plugging up this leak will be extremely difficult and it is fortunate that the majority of the dam seems to be holding fast.
I'll need a swim check for Shear to pull the first elder out on the next turn. Additionally, if anyone wants to dive off of the dam into the river below, it is roughly a 40 ft drop into deep water, and will need an Acrobatics and Swim check to do that. Blue lines on the map are the areas that the water is rapidly covering.

Reavis Smoot |
Thinking fast, Reavis pulls a vial of Liquid Ice from his Handy Haversack with his tail, opens it and then tosses it near elders and Shear, attempting to freeze some of the water to create a makeshift ice platform.
If the ice forms as he hopes, he calls out, "Use that to float on out of there!"
Ranged Touch attack 10 feet away from Shear into water to avoid splash damage - 2 Range Increments: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 4 = 20
The Man Behind the Curtain |
The vial strikes the rushing water and is bashed into a piece of floating debris. All of a sudden the surface of the water begins to harden and thatch from the roof begins to freeze together with the stones and timber falling from the dam. The second elder grabs onto the makeshift life raft and hangs on for dear life as the foundation of the hut is torn from beneath it.

Well that was pretty effective...
Viper does a perfect swan dive avoiding rocks and timber and he dives into the rushing river.
Lethal Fall Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
Nonlethal Fall Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
The landing certainly stings, but the sharpness of the maneuver spares you a fair bit of pain. Viper jets down through the river and straight into the hut, grabbing a hold of the elder's life raft, when all of a sudden the foundation gives and the hut, elders, viper, and shear all find themselves dragged 40 ft downriver. The hut itself seems to be more or less intact and floating rapidly down the river, but the floor seems to be slowly coming apart and its anyone's guess how long it will remain above water.
Viper and Shear, can I get a few checks pertaining to getting back to shore? Swim, strength, or any other creative solution. Swim checks for the one with the ice raft get a +2 aid bonus.
