Combat Over
As you reach the eastern end of the tunnel, you notice a faint light at the end of the tunnel. In addition, the sound of Janira’s oration is close and clear. It's only about 120 feet away.
Assuming you guys run forth...
The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and light illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy.
You emerge into a 40 foot clearing at the base of the Kortos Mounts. The full moon provides dim light over the area. The woodland is full of underbrush, slowing you down like difficult terrain. The trees provide partial cover but do not occupy an entire 5 foot space.
You notice the stream is about 10 feet wide and 5 feet deep and flows quickly (DC 15 Swim check to swim across. Large creatures can walk through with a DC 12 strength check.) Luckily a slippery tree trunk acts as a bridge. (DC 7 Acrobatics to cross, make a DC 13 Reflex Save if you fail.)
Janira Gavix is locked in combat with her relentless minotaur foe. Its axe is brittle but otherwise he is unharmed. Janira isn't as lucky; she's clearly winded.

To clarify, it is undergrowth, i.e. difficult terrain only on the green areas, right? So brown areas still normal terrain? And the green star-shaped objects are the trees? Also, it is dim light, so 20% miss chance for those with normal vision? And finally, is Janira's inspiration still on? And guys, for those trying to close in, don't forget the potion of feather step in Janira's bag!
Fung takes one step forward to clear some space for his party. Seeing the long range of the minotaur, Fung starts to pull in static electricity from his surroundings. When he has amassed sufficient energy, he lets it fly towards the beast!

To clarify, it is undergrowth, i.e. difficult terrain only on the green areas, right? So brown areas still normal terrain?
You are correct.
And the green star-shaped objects are the trees?
Also correct.
Also, it is dim light, so 20% miss chance for those with normal vision?
Yup.
And finally, is Janira's inspiration still on?
Yes it is, providing +1 attack/damage.
Valuur's arrow fails to penetrate the beast's skin. Fung's electric blast hits easily, though.
Minotaur has taken 13 damage so far. Liora is up.

Round 1
Liora realizes that even though Janira is putting forth a lot of bravado, she clearly needs help - and they're the only ones who can do it. She quickly places a guiding hand on Fung. "Keep up that blasting and cover us, okay?" she says before racing after Bukkah.
"Janira! Can you lure him to the grass?"
Casting Guidance on Fung and then moving forward.

Liora helps Fung's aim, then quickly advances towards the minotaur. It seems wholly fixated on stopping Janira, however.
Minotaur's Broken Greataxe vs Janira: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Liora's Round 2
Although Fung's blast had hit home, it suddenly occurs to Liora that the lighting leaves something to be desired for the humans in the group. Skidding to stop, she points to the minotaur. "ඔබ ආලෝකය වෙලාව!" she intones, sounding rather impressive for anyone not familiar with the strange, airy language she uses.
Liora will cast Faerie Fire on the minotaur!
"Time to light you up!"

![]() |

Seeing his party close in on the minotaur, Fung continues to step forward. He barely hears Liora as he focuses past the pain of holding in so much charge to be able to blast so far. Gritting his teeth, he lets fly another bolt of lightning towards the minotaur.

Actually, they do. Bless provides morale bonus, and Inspire Courage provides competence bonus. Different types so they stack.

![]() |

(Inspire Courage gives a competence bonus? *checks* Huh, it gives a morale bonus on the saves and a competence bonus on attack/damage. Well, I don't question the logic behind that. I've never played a bard, and it shows. I'll just undo that second move action, then...)
The Kuthonite cleric then presents his unholy symbol, and a a burst of courage fills the social atmosphere.
(Everyone except Bukkah and Janira get a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls for 10 rounds. The bonus on saves vs fear doesn't stack with Inspire Courage.)

GM chadius |

Orseb uses his symbol to guide (almost) everyone's hand and steel them against fear. Rathh wishes it could help with his fatigue.
Fung and Valuur shoot the minotaur from afar, as Bukkah closes in on the threat that Liora neatly outlines with bright glowing outline.

One of you remembers the Wand of Cure Light Wounds and manages to save Liora and Janira's lives.
Janira stirs awake, mumbling: "Friendship. Cooperation. Partners-in-arms will defeat any blade." Her eyes pop open. "Good job, everyone." Janira claps as she stands up. She only takes a moment to clutch her abdomen. "Have you investigated the mountains thoroughly? If so, we should return home. Make sure to prepare your report!"
Anything else you guys want to do here? And yes, prepare your report...

"Whew...that is not what I anticipated finding here. I do hope the Society has liability insurance. A class-action suit for failure to provide sufficient disclaimers would not be out of the question."

After the minotaur falls, Fung quickly dashes down the slope and jumps across the river but by the time he gets there, Liora and Janira have been restored. He sighs a sigh of relief, while glancing at Rathh with some confusion.
"What?" he mutters under his breath.
Turning to Janira, he shares, "There is one side cavern that we have yet to explore. As our mission is to explore these caverns thoroughly, I say that we return and complete our mission."
Anyone else for it?

![]() |

"Aside from those side caverns that I am willing to explore, there also seems to be some religious writings about Aroden. They seem older than most history lessens depict from my stay at the Grand Lodge."
Valuur looks about, hoping the others would be willing to go as well into the caves.

![]() |

"Urgh...did we win?" Liora asks groggily as the wand's healing magic mends her wounds. She slowly sits up and looks around, spotting the dead minotaur as well as the also-revived Janira. "We won! Huzzah!" she grins, throwing both fists up in the air.
"Remind me to keep more distance from anyone carrying a big axe like that in the future though," she continues as she carefully climbs to her feet. "And yeah, now that Janira's safe we should finish looking around the caverns - no sense in leaving a job half-finished, right?"
Liora will also heal herself back up with the wand if the others didn't do it when they revived her.

GM chadius |

Janira dusts herself off. "Let's head back into the mountains, then- this is your mission. I'll take a good look at the sculpture for my own interests." She blushes slightly. "And I'm a little worn down after fighting that bull all day."
You return to the diorama and travel east. Janira tells you she will stay here and make sense of the worn petroglyphs, trying to guess what they looked like long ago.
