Fair enough. I was just trying to avoid starting a fight prone, so wanted to confirm that would work out.

When you're fascinated, a potential threat allows you another saving throw, and an obvious threat automatically breaks the effect. Can we assume we're no longer fascinated, since a giant snake-woman biting one of our companions while shouting that we will all die represents an obvious threat?

I think the obvious threat is a threat against you personally, however this seems like a potential threat, so those fascinated would get another save attempt. DC 19 to break free from the fascinate.

Edit: By personally, I mean that you are under threat of imminent harm, not merely potential harm in the future. Being attacked yourself is key for a obvious threat, I think. Otherwise, Cobb could just aim his weapon at everyone as a free action to break the effect, right?

I think you're setting a different standard than exists in the rules. Drawing a weapon is given as an example of an obvious threat, and it's not targeted at anyone - it's just drawing a weapon. The naga is actually attacking one of us and literally threatening to kill us all. Either one of those acts should clear the threshold of an obvious threat. Fascinate is not really something that one uses in combat, because combat tends to break the effect automatically.

On the point of Cobb aiming his weapon at each of us, I guess that would technically fit within RAW, except that we all see Cobb as an ally and would probably discount the threat he represents. But that is not how we feel about the naga.

You can say that you see fascinate as an ability that is used out of combat, but anytime fascinate is used it results in combat so there has to be a use outside everyone failing their saves. I maintain that there has to be a threat to your person to unanimously break your fascinate. Otherwise, what is the point? Also, an imminent threat is still different than a vocal future threat. Of the three issues, the Naga has not drawn a weapon, cast a spell or aimed a Ranged weapon at you, so the strictest reading means you would maybe get another save. That being said, I think you would get a save.

Browsing the boards a bit, I can't find any reading of the rules consistent with your position. Looked at another way, the naga - who is obviously hostile, given that she's threatening to kill us all - approached. This qualifies as a hostile creature approaching, and is thus a potential threat, which grants a new save. Her other action, attacking Asha, clearly represents a greater degree of threat, so should be considered an obvious threat, breaking the effect. The examples given, of drawing a weapon and so on, are just that - examples. Just because her action was not one of those specific things doesn't mean there isn't an obvious threat, and I'm puzzled by your reading of the rule.

In any case, I don't want to drag this out further.

Lukas shakes on the snake-woman's hypnotic effect, then leaps to his feet and darts around the naga, dodging madly to get into position on the far side of the creature from Asha.

In my reading fascinate was always an out of combat abililty. The baridic performance ability quite clearly states that it can only be used when no combat is going on. Also I agree with Lukas that there isn't much room for interpreting what the Naga is doing currently as not being hostile...

@Jeb: This ability isn't the bardic performance ability, however, so any text in that ability isn't actually relevant. Additionally, I agree that she is hostile, however the fascinate ability doesn't say "if you think someone is hostile then it breaks immediately."

@Lukas: As she approached, then you would get a new save, which I said you would above. No argument there. Additionally, her action was an obvious threat to Asha, which is why she is automatically broken out of the fascinate effect. Again, I think we can agree on this.

You seem puzzled by my ruling, but I am honestly puzzled by yours. If fascinate is so easily broken and it can only be used outside of combat, then at what point can this ability ever be used? It will unanimously result in combat every time as it is an ability that starts up Initiative. Additionally, the only condition in which combat would start and it wouldn't break under your interpretation is if the six Pathfinders (in PFS) or the group of players at your table all fail their rolls. If that is true, then what is even the point of having the ability printed?

That being said, you clearly feel strongly about it, so let's just say that the effect is now broken! Huzzah!

@Jeb: That's not a legal way to use a cone spell. You went 20' diagonally from you and then 15' down a vertical. You either choose a cardinal direction and then pick the square adjacent to you and then a 2x3 block next to that or have a 15' line down two cardinal directions and meet in between which would be only two squares diagonally. Cayden Cailean, help me!

Sarasha takes a roundabout route to get back in rapier range to avoid AoO.

You will soon be back to eating dirt, you overgrown earthworm.

Wyrmsmite, Flanking: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 = 26 Damage, Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 5 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (3, 6) = 17 + Bewildered

Bewildered: The target becomes bewildered, taking a –2 penalty to AC. The target takes an additional –2 penalty to AC against all attacks made by the rogue.

Not sure if that AC drop will make a difference for everyone else's attacks, but since I technically go first I will make the case for it. Also, We're getting our asses kicked. :-)

If attacked:

Use 1 Panache for OP&R. 2 Panache remaining.

Parry: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 2 = 22
Riposte: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 = 20 Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Celes and Sarasha both continue to be hammered by the poison as it continually drains their life force.

Con Damage-Sarasha: 1d3 ⇒ 2 Con Damage impacts your Fort Save, so you are actually at a -2 to your Fort, which is a 16 and doesn't pass.
Wis Damage-Sarasha: 1 = 1

Con Damage-Celes: 2d3 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
Wis Damage-Celes: 2 = 2

Your Bewildered won't affect the rolls, but it is unneeded.

Sarasha moves in to strike, crippling the naga's defenses, but those that hit the naga did not need the aid and those that missed missed by too much.

Tessa and Lukas seemingly add to the confusion of the melee as Celes and Cobb are able to damage the crazed creature. As Celes' axe cleaves in and Cobb's arrow finds its mark, the naga slumps to the ground, dead.

Cast lesser restoration on Sarasha. Lesser restoration dispels any magical effects reducing one of the subject's ability scores or cures 1d4 points of temporary ability damage to one of the subject's ability scores.

@Jeb: Lesser Restoration has a three round cast time, so the poison will run its course before you finish casting.

She breaks down into a series of dry heaves. Remembering her scroll, she hands it to Jeb if he's not busy casting, or Cobb if so. First one to accept wins.

heal skill for poison:

To treat poison means to tend to a single character who has been poisoned and who is going to take more damage from the poison (or suffer some other effect). Every time the poisoned character makes a saving throw against the poison, you make a Heal check. If your Heal check exceeds the DC of the poison, the character receives a +4 competence bonus on his saving throw against the poison.

Action/Time: 1 standard action.

Retry? Varies. Generally speaking, you can’t try a Heal check again without witnessing proof of the original check’s failure.

Cobb nearly drops his bow as he rushes over to Sarasha and kneels, looking at her wounds like a doctor without any positive bedside manner.

"Yep. This ain't good."

Tearing some cloth from somewhere, he immediately begins to dab the wound, hoping to soak up some of the poison and improve her chances.

Heal (treat Sarasha's poison): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

If This Tactic Is Successful:

To help speed us along. I'll roll out 2 rounds worth in case it matters. Move Cobb to Celes if Sarasha looks better.

Sorry guys, maybe Jeb's plan was better after all. I'm in no condition to fight a mouse, let alone a dragon. Maybe you should leave me here while you go on.
