I wish our approach to this had only one flaw! Little does he know...

"Yeah," Lukas says reluctantly, "I was kind of hoping you wouldn't spot that so quickly. But who's to say? Could be you try to get past me and I put you in your place." He glances over his shoulder, wondering what Jeb is doing flailing around right behind him, then says to Kanjougas, "I think you want to know if you can take me, so you won't just waltz by. Think you can hit me, old fella?"

More total defense.

Tessa - I was totally banking on you having another scorching ray. I guess you don't, eh? Bummer.

The weak spray of flames washes over the mummy, but he appears unsinged as his body shimmers in the light. "You need stronger magic to harm me, elf."

As Lukas maintains his defensive stance, the very wise monk of Irori ponders upon this. "Yes, but you will still be here guarding as your friends are slaughtered, so why not deal with the ones who can actually harm me first?" he asks to Lukas.

Cobb gives Lukas a glance, waiting to see what his ally's response might be, but looks to Sarasha and Celes's fallen bodies with concern.

"Ain't nobody stopping this dragon if we all die."

Starting to believe the Iroran mummy invincible, he sighs and fires off another pair of arrows, expecting to see both plucked from flight followed by a revised statement that three arrows will be needed "right here".

Cobb nearly spits in disappointment as his arrows mean little and doesn't even continue his draw of the next arrow.

"So, mummy. You got a name? And any interest in slaying a dragon doin' all sorts of evil? Cuz I'm thinkin' you'd pass a recruitment drive comin' up in town with flying colors."

Cobb smiles, half serious, half trying to make lemonade out of bitter lemons as he focuses on the greater of the tasks at hand.

"Just sayin'. We're down two and if you let me, I can save ol' Jeb's life before he bleeds out next... "

"As stated, my name is Kanjougas. I was the abbot here when the yangthe attacked and killed all of my brethren. I sealed it, but could not kill it, so I took up the mantle of unlife as penance for my failures." the mummified monk whispers. "My only purpose is testing those who come to see if they have the strength to close the Dark Window. If necessary, these three fallen comrades of yours will become part of my endeavors as will the rest of you as you seem to lack the necessary fear to flee from those that are much stronger than you."

Cobb considers whether or not Desna has forsaken him this afternoon, and suspects it has to do something with firing his arrows at something that's truly not evil.

"Well, Kanjo. Not sure what this Dark Window is, but we were arming for a fight with a dragon, not an Iroran. You're a lot harder to hit with an arrow than a big dragon, if you catch my drift."

Cobb nods as Lukas pulls back from the room, his eyes lingering on the fallen forms of his allies.

"Ain't fear leading us out of here. It's common sense. We gotta pull back, reassess and figure out how to stop a dragon from leveling a whole town."

I don't think it is unwinnable, but this party is lacking the normal synergy that Paizo might expect from a 5th level party. Relatively little healing, no Haste or Inspire, no other buffs or debuffs to overcome the high AC or protect from his high attack rolls.

Based on two votes to flee, I will just assume Tessa flees as well.

Lukas ducks under another spinning jump kick and dives into the tunnel as Cobbs fires off two arrows at the mummy before taking a step back and falling down into the once-secret tunnel.

Tessa throws a Snowball at the mummy, but sees that her allies have fled and doesn't stick around to see what happens to the Iroran due to her jumping down the tunnel as well.

The remainder of the group quickly flees from the monastery back to town, not running into any enemies as they process what has happened.

Celes/Jeb/Sarasha:
So, since the Iroran mummy wishes for you to close the Dark Window and you have now become part of his design. If you'd like, you can take the Iroran Mummy template as Kanjougas turns you into mummified creatures.

This would grant you:
Type: The creature's type changes to undead (augmented). It retains any other subtypes as well, except for alignment subtypes and subtypes that indicate kind. Do not recalculate class HD, BAB, saves, or skill points.

Senses: A mummified creature gains darkvision 60 feet.

Armor Class: Natural armor improves by +4.

Hit Dice: Change all racial Hit Dice to d8s. Class Hit Dice are unaffected. As an undead, a mummified creature uses its Charisma modifier to determine bonus hit points (instead of Constitution).

Defensive Abilities: A mummified creature gains DR 5/— and the defensive abilities granted by the undead type.

Weaknesses: The mummification process leaves a mummified creature vulnerable to a single energy type. Choose or determine randomly from the following list.

d10 Energy

1 Electricity

2–3 Acid

4–7 Fire

8–9 Cold

10 Sonic

As a fail-safe in case of rebellion, a mummified creature is subtly marked during the ritual process with a hieroglyph someplace inconspicuous on its body or wrappings that identifies the particular energy type to which it is vulnerable. A successful DC 20 Perception check is needed to find the mark, but a successful DC 25 Linguistics check is still required to decipher the hieroglyph's meaning.

Speed: Decrease all speeds by 10 feet (to a minimum of 5 feet). If the base creature has a flight speed, its maneuverability changes to clumsy.

Attacks: The mummification process hardens the mummified creature's bones to a stone-like density, granting the mummified creature a powerful slam attack if the base creature has no other natural attacks. This slam attack deals damage based on the mummified creature's size, treating the creature as if it were one size category larger.

If you don't want to be a mummified version of yourself for the remainder of the module, then you can draw up a new character at level 6.

Cobb/Lukas/Tessa:
While you are in town, the townsfolk will heal you back to full and you will gain a level from your experience in the abbey.

More than likely going to draw up a new PC. As cool as it would be to go the other route, Celes is just to stubborn and bull headed to do it. Lol

Wealth = by level?

Class restrictions or sane as character creation?

Celes:
No worries! Just figured that is a way to keep your character if you really wanted to! Also, on the rebuild, you are correct.

Busy tomorrow with family activities, but I'll update Sarasha in the next few days. Any idea when she will rejoin the party?

Sarasha:
You will join when the rest of the party joins just for ease of play! Also, you seem to be the only one to choose this route! I'm glad someone did! Since you are choosing this route, you get a free level of Unchained Monk and can retool any existing class features to make it viable; e.g. Weapon Finesse from Rogue into Unarmed Strike or Butterfly Sword (since your weapons can change into any blade!). This will give you two attacks per round with Flurry! Also, you may swap your Constitution score to your Wisdom score seeing as Undead don't have Constitution scores and your Wisdom is only 10.

If you have any other problems or concerns with the update, let me know.

She looks around, trying to get a gauge of the mood, as her journey was not the easiest.

She walks up to the bar, and orders a glass of fine wine if they any any, otherwise she will take a standard ale.

Lukas' eyes widen in disbelief as Sarasha announces herself, but discipline makes him bite his tongue. I saw her fall! She was dead, and we could not save her! But she is somehow here...

He gives her the most welcoming smile he can muster given the circumstances, saying in an uncertain tone, "It is good to see you on your feet again, Sarasha..." Turning to Alrik, he adds, "It is as she says, we've been to the dragon's lair, and defeated some of its minions - though not without cost. We wish to return and finish the job, and any help you can offer would be welcome."

Lukas then looks long and hard at Cobb and Tessa, as if to reassure himself that they're who they've always been, and not some undead version of their former selves. Katja, look to the gruff man as he poses his question. She listens to her familiar click and clack.

I am as ready as I shall be. My home, would likely be its next target should it be allowed to disperse its evil intentions upon this land. I am the only one that was available to be sent by my area in hopes to face this danger. I am here to bolster us all, as I have focused on transmuting, and altering what our limits can or could be.

@Alrik: I need your stat line to look like the rest.

Sarasha:
A little background on your transformation: you have a Geas set that makes you wish to close the Dark Window and you know that you must kill the dragon to do so. It's all fluff as all of your actions aside from saying "eff it" to the module at this point are going to fall in line with that, but it seems in line with what the Lawful Neutral Iroran Monk would do by releasing you into the world.

Update: New hard drive is ordered, but I still need to install the OS on it, which is troublesome since I usually download it off the university website! I'll figure something out!

The Baroness walks in as you finally meet some newcomers with some fighting power. "After the devastation at the monastery, are you going to head back to wipe out the dragon's reinforcements or are you going to head straight to its lair?" she asks, referencing the news that Sarasha knows of the lair.

Take 10 on Perception for a 21

Lukas studies the being that looks so much like Sarasha for a long moment, and a faint smile crosses his face. "You're in there, aren't you?" he says, his tone both contented and curious. He nods a couple of times thoughtfully, then turns to Tessa.

"I think you're right," he weighs in, "we take the fight to the damned dragon and get this over with. I think if we take it down, we won't have to worry about any of its minions, they'll know we killed a dragon. And if we don't take it down...well, we won't have to worry about its minions that way either, will we?"

Lifting his chin bravely, he tells the baroness, "We'll take care of the dragon, and the rest will take care of itself."

Aeteperax chose a large cavern in Dragonfen near the peak of a low hill north of the Monastery as his lair. From above ground, dense undergrowth and steep slopes make approaching the cave difficult for landbound creatures (Climb DC 20 to make it up the last 300 feet)--much less finding the entrance. You easily notice numerous overgrown entrances that open in the roof of the cavern.

All people must be able to make the DC Climb 20 to climb up 300' in some way, shape or form to participate in the final fight.

As you enter the cave system, you see that cavernous tunnel leads 750 feet back to a fork in the road. During daytime, sunlight reflects in from the east. The ceiling height here is 20 feet.

Map is updated.

Female Human Kapenia Dancer

Katja, looks on to the Baroness as she speaks. She knows better than to speak to someone who has given her some funds to help defeat a dragon.

I am ready to go to the dragon's lair, but I am unsure if we should leave it's minions to interfere with our ultimate goal. Just one question though, what color is this dragon so I may properly prepare for my potential doom?

Seeing the cliff, she sighs. She pulls out a scroll, and with a quick flourish of hands and tongue, she begins to float in the air.

casting fly from scroll. I was hoping to save that for the actual boss fight but oh well

She softly floats up to the top of the cliff, bow in hand just in case.

"Aeteperax was a great wyrm black dragon who resided in the Dragonfen of central Taldor, but he was killed by Lady Tula. This new dragon is an unknown color. Perhaps it is black and is the offspring of the ancient creature." adds the Baroness at Katja's question.

Alrik can't make the climb up as he has a negative Climb modifier. He does have a potion of flight however. I was planning to save that for the big fight...

Sarasha activates her slippers of spider climbing and walks slowly up the difficult slope.

40 ft/rd climb speed (full round movement) = 240 ft/min = 2 minutes of out 10 used today to climb 300 ft.

I would be glad to loan them to others, but it's not a sheer cliff so I don't know how to get them down to you. Anyone have a crossbow I can borrow? Even with the additional drag from tying the slippers to a bolt, that should have sufficient range to get them down the hill.

I have enough to buy some potions of fly, which I guess I should have spent on gear before we came to this cave. This does make me wonder whether there were useful things we might have found fighting the henchmonsters - since this is a pretty dang challenging obstacle.

Flying is a bit overkill if all we need to do is climb. I think this is where Monkeyfish comes into play. :)

Tessa stares at the massive mound in front of her and lets out a low whistle. No way I am making it up there without hurting myself. Anyone have any ideas?

@GM, exactly how steep is the hill? DC20 implies a pretty steep climb, so I'm wondering if my thought to throw/shoot/drop my slippers of spider climb down to the bottom is viable enough to consider.

If it comes to it, I guess we can all trudge back to town for some scrolls of Monkey Fish and/or Spider Climb, right?

You can go back to town to try to find something to aid you, however the shooting and dropping might cause the shoes to get tangled in the "dense undergrowth" on the hillside, which would mean they would need to be retrieved before someone else could use them.

How much rope do we have? I can climb easily to the top, trailing a rope behind me, then attach it firmly at the top.

I have 50 feet. If we don't have enough to stretch 300 feet, we can move everyone up in stages, then moving the rope repeatedly: 50 feet, 100 feet, 150 feet, ...

It's very PFS-ey, but a wand of monkeyfish for 750gp and 3 charges for each of us, and we're up, without a good way down. :) I imagine we're talking about this before we actually hike out to the cliff.

Cobb rubs his chin and considers the reported 300ft ascent.

"300 feet... that's a long fall if we're not prepared. I know wizard's often have some sort of spell to catch 'em when they fall. I suppose the good news is the dragon ain't likely to have a lot of minions in their lair at this rate. We sure we didn't miss a hidden passage the kobolds take to leave their tribute?"

Not that I know of.

On paper Monkey fish looks good but it only lasts 60 seconds each time. Spend 6 seconds of that reaching and casting the next one we are going to burn through them. I think spider climb might be best.

back in town Tessa quickly visits the market and purchases two scrolls of Spider Climb that may help best with the small hill.

I have 54 gold left if anyone else needs to purchase anything before we go to face the dragon. She holds her sack of coins forward for anyone to take.

Lukas has plenty of gold, and will cover the cost of additional scrolls of Spider Climb, assuming Tessa will cast them on whoever needs them. I will say, I can't help but think that if we're struggling to figure out how to get into the dragon's cave, I shudder at the notion of what we'll do once we're inside...
