Justin takes the big sword and offers his lightning axe to Kilthan to use it if he wants. "I used a greatsword so long ago, and Iomedae likes swords. We just found such good axes."

Justin says as he indicates the griffon: "It appears this alone was worth the delay. We can use the griffon quite soon. And, what a good beast to ride."

Justin summons the griffon after being instructed in its use.
"Griffon, we need thee now!!"

Bronze griffon I call you -- a little Pokémon lore

GM Blood:

Initiative Rohara Acharya: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Initiative Monster: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Justin grabs the griffon and summon the magnificent creature. Unfortunately, instead of a typical griffon, something that looks like a griffon that has come from the abyss arrives instead. It goes to attack!

For simplicity I will leave you all where you were for the vrock attack

Justin gets an angry look on his face, apparently that this noble creature has been tainted by the abyss. In one motion he draws the blade and slices through the creature, returning it to it normal figurine form. Justin smiles while saying he likes this sword. His look is still one of rage while he looks about the room looking for another target.

I thought that all the short buffs were done. That was what GM Blood said was going to happen. Justin should not have any buffs on.

We spent like 5-10 minutes searching the room and identifying the items was my understanding.

Also, would a Paladin's divine powers work if the Paladin was possessed? It would seem that he would lose many of them since he would not be acting on behalf of his deity.

Justin puts the sword in his pack careful not to touch it. The same with the figurine.

"When I was a hatchling they said my fascination with magic items could be dangerous, they called me two words that translate into dangerously curious."

He nods grimly to Skornald: "Thank you. I would rather you end me than allow me to kill an innocent or comrade in arms. Thankfully it didn't come to that."

Justin gave Skornald a grim smile, as there was only so far males went to express gratitude.

The trait can be aptly named.

At the end of the long ramped hall, a grand chamber opens to a height of eighty feet. Opposite the entry is a tall octagonal column of jet-black stone, glowing with green symbols running up one of its faces. A deep pool of placid green liquid stands before the column, bathing the entire chamber in an otherworldly light.

Floating above the pool is a humanoid form with strange rubbery purple flesh, dressed in black robes, wielding a staff of red metal. Its head is hairless and bulbous, with four long tentacles where its mouth should be. Inside your heads you hear an alien voice speaking to you.

"You dare to enter my sanctum! Fools. I knew of your presence, and I see your thoughts already clouding with fear. I shall finish what Telakin could not. Your weak minds will be a sumptuous feast, your terror a pleasing garnish!"

Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 16:

This tentacle-faced creature is a mind flayer, also known as an illithid and is an aberration.

Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 21:

Mind flayers are so named for their ability to produce a powerful mind blast that stuns creatures. They commonly enslave sentient creatures to use as slave labor, chattel, or both.

Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 26:

Mind flayers subsist on the brains of sentient beings. Their facial tentacles can grapple with an opponent and extract the brain in mere moments.

Knowledge (dungeoneering) DC 31:

Mind flayers can use their mental abilities to use the following as spell-like abilities: charm monster, detect thoughts, levitate, plane shift, and suggestion.

You cannot be double slowed. The stun can be dispelled with dispel magic

Justin, got it, going off your AC on your status bar, so the octopins missed. The Octopins are not evil, the Mind Flayer certainly is. Stun gives you a -2 AC penalty and enlarge gives you a -2 dex and -1 AC for large sized which would put you back at 24 for AC? Also the bonus to AC with pro from evil is a deflection bonus so it only increase your AC against evil by +1 since you have a ring of protection

Roll vs Stun/Slow = Success!:

Save vs Stun 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 24 (success)
Save vs Slow 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 23 (success)
Save vs Slow 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 2 + 2 = 20 {success)

Knowledge (dungeonerring) Check1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20

Rohara feels the magics wash over her and she again comes through as if protected by her deity. She can see that many of her companions are not so lucky.

She calls upon her Goddess' gifts, "May Lady Luck allow you all be free to act!" She weaves a hand in motion as the magics of her spell take on those of the stun...

((Dispel Magic vs Spell 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 vs Stun first... if it does not dispel that then it moves on to the Slow.))

FYI, dispel magic will only take the slow or stun off of one target. Jag is the only one affected. You also have a floating mind flayer as well. Let me know what you decide to do.

Everyone except Jagbach seems to resist the the force of the mind flayer stun attack and slowing effects of the octopin's stare

Justin since you made the stun save you get an AoO on each octopin.

Lizardman hp=108/108(AC24/ff24/t11) {F=+12/R=+6/W=+9} CMD 26 Paladin 10 (Shining Knight) Smite evil 4/4 - Lay on hands 7/7

Round 1 Justin in hand=lightning +1 greataxe
Active effects: Shield, exp retreat, feather step, enlarge, freedom of movement, circle of protection from evil, good hope

I think I get zero AoO without any feats.
AoO vs first Octopin to fall/damage/lightning--ignore unless you want to swap the dice: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 213d6 + 19 ⇒ (5, 3, 6) + 19 = 331d6 ⇒ 4
Justin then feels the haste hit him, waits for the Song of Skorhald and attacks the octopins with a flurry.
PA/damage/lightning: 1d20 + 15 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 15 + 2 + 1 = 293d6 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3, 2) + 19 + 2 = 271d6 ⇒ 6
PA iterative/damage/lightning: 1d20 + 15 + 2 + 1 - 8 ⇒ (13) + 15 + 2 + 1 - 8 = 233d6 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) + 19 + 2 = 291d6 ⇒ 1
PA haste/damage/lightning: 1d20 + 15 + 2 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (1) + 15 + 2 + 1 - 3 = 163d6 + 19 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2, 6) + 19 + 2 = 301d6 ⇒ 2
bite/damage: 1d20 + 14 + 2 + 1 - 5 ⇒ (13) + 14 + 2 + 1 - 5 = 251d4 + 6 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 + 3 = 14

Nevermind, I thought you had combat reflexes for some reason. Since you didn't act yet no aoo

Skorhald continues his dwarven war chant and casts haste to speed the group while charging his weapon and averting his gaze.

Save the dispel than, and use Prayer on the group. I know it does not affect the big bad, but that is another +1 luck bonus to all rolls (attack, saves, skills, attacks, damage)

Is Justin blocking the way (or Justin and the Octopins, really)?
