Krokod swipes at the rats with his club again, cursing as he does so

normal attack for the round
GM Birch |
Neb's eidolan swings at the rats and manages to kill some more. Their numbers are really thinning now.
Krokod also flails desparately at the rats but also misses by a country mile.
Woolf manages to connect with some rats, their bones crunching echoing eerily in the tunnel.
Brand takes 2hp damage, Keth takes 2hp and Krokod takes 3hp. Off to the next round and the rats look like one hit will take them out. I need a Fort save from each of you. Brand up next, then Keth...
GM Birch |
Keth swings and misses at the rats, as does Delgata.
No flanking for swarms Delgata
I'm playing in a game where any post before the bad guys will be played in the order they come in and any post after the bad guys is the same. If posting is taking up too much time, I'll adopt this as and when it speeds us up - like above
Brand and then Neb before the rats can do anything
Krokod Firetongue |
Fortitude save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
He curses as he's bitten and swats again when he can, hoping for some better luck
To hit: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
dmg with club: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Edit; Wow. The dice just want me to just sit down and be quiet it seems.
Keth Longstrider |
Keth swears as he gets bit FO Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 then swings the flaming torch again. attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 + Fire whatever you deem appropriate
Rats carry diseases. Anyone got any whiskey? To pour on the wounds when theyre dead
GM Birch |
The eidolan misses with its attack whilts the rats remain where they are for now.
Krokod and Woolf also fail to connect with the rats.
Another round over. Brand takes 1hp damage, Keth takes 3hp and Krokod takes 2hp. I need a Fort save from Keth and Krokod
Keth flails at the remaining rats and the few that remain slide lifelessly back into the sewer water, the flames on their bodies hissing as they are extinguished.
Combat over!

"God's what vile creatures. Who knew there were so many down here, I'd almost rather take my chances with the Hellnights." He rubs a few of the smaller bites and winces, then looks to a large nasty bite on the arm.
"Anyone here good with a needle? This one will have to be stitched. Afraid I don't have any whiskey at the moment, but I could use a cup of good wine, that's for sure."
He looks around at his companions and sees that they too are injured, but with far fewer bites.
"Not to add insult to well, injury, but I think we need a better plan in case those things come back." He rubs the wound on his arm as it starts to itch.
Delgata Pesur |
Yes, I plan to teach you all better posture, grip, and follow through on swinging a club verses rats on grease. But outside of a grease situation, or rat situation, I prefer to sneak around behind someone to distract them while a bigger person beats on the person that needs a beating. We should probably walk..
Starts walking looking for the sewered trail markers.
If possible talking my way out of combat is more my style, not really a fighter, got a weak stomach when I see blood. One time the bear got out of his cage back home and horribly mutilated this guy I knew; intestine pulled all over the place, slashed marks over his face, looked like the bear had fun with him, revenge style. Anyway I found his body and passed out cold, when other people found us they thought I too was a victim of the bear. Well to keep this story short more or less woke when the priest was giving me a last rights and nearly killed my ma with fright when I came to. My mother is good with a needle, she would stich you up fine, and while she was at in embroider your cloak to add some color to you life.
Pauses.
I get it, I prefer a knife if I need to fight, coupled with some stealth and guile. I am not really good in a fight, more of an infiltration expert. What do the rest of you do?
Everyone can notice Delgata is trying to answer the question formally once he realized it was not a opening to idle concersation but actually an inquiry.
Krokod Firetongue |
Fortitude save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Krokod listens to Delgata's talk of lessons and more "Yes, yes, my luck was abominable. What can I say, I've fought with men, not an army of rats before. Perhaps I should ask the next group of vermin we meet to spar so I can learn their ways," Krokod is speaking common again.
"As you all might have noticed," The performer says as he looks his own wounds over with deep concern, "I have a...condition. One that causes me to rattle off in tongues. I speak the language of flame when in times of great crisis, I suppose the rats count. I don't even understand other people. There are some benefits however, such as the power to heal. Though, disease, such as rats might carry, is beyond my capability. "
He looks himself and others over, trying to clean their wounds.
Heal check on self: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Heal check on Brand: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
He frowns when he looks over Brand, "If you are infected, there is little I can do for it beyond what I have, but you're in no shape to continue so I'm going to risk healing these wounds unless you object."
Unless Brand does object...CLW on him 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Flames sear Brand's wounds shut, at least in part, yet there is oddly no pain
Krokod is still down five, anyone else hurting?
Keth Longstrider |
Keth holds the Torch up and peers around. glancing once at his wounds. It seems the rats have given as they received Keth is down 5
FO Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12. Any diseases they spread will likely not take effect for a day or two. Let us make haste before we are set upon. Healer if you have a way of mending my wounds I would appreciate it. I did notice you spoke funny. but then with the carrying on of this Delgata, how would we know... what was unusual...
Woolf |
Wolf continues to bite and shake rats for a few more seconds, before looking up at the others pleased as he could be... his mouth open in a dog-smile, panting easily...Did you see me fling them? did you? They didnt stand a chance...Just Call me Vermin-Slayer. Wolf Vermin-Slayer, has a ring to it ehh?
His tail wagging all the time.
Krokod Firetongue |
"The name is Krokod, not 'healer', please. I don't even want to be a healer. I'm a performer, I just just happen to have been seized by forces that can't seem to bear being parted from my company," Krokod smirked, but looked over Keth's own wounds, "You're heartier than most I dare say. I'm tempted to leave you as is in case we more healing later on, but then as I said, I'm hardly best suited to know WHEN I should use this magic."
He smiles at Woolf, "And you are a very good boy. Thank you for killing rats."
Keth Longstrider |
Keth looks down and turns a a little red. Just so. Krok-Odd trying to make sense of the name Did I pronounce it right? He pats Wolfs head once and says Yes. Maybe you are right. Heal Yourself and Brand first. and looks around saying What could cause the rats to swarm like that?
Krokod Firetongue |
"Don't stress it so hard, but otherwise, you're close," He assures. At the other question, he wonders, "I'm not sure. I know little of rats, maybe there's an army of cats on the way?"
Delgata Pesur |
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Brand Firestorm |
"An impressive talent Krokod, thank you, though I am most unfamiliar with fire that heals, it is most welcome. And the language of flame you said? I shall have to listen closer next time as this language would be o great interest to me." He marvels at the flesh that has been restored with Krokod's flame.
"As you may have guessed by now, my talents lie more in the destructive realms along with a few useful tricks now and again. As for swarms of rats, it's my understanding that it's what they do, especially in sewers, but I had never hoped to meet one."
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 12
He hurries down the tunnel with the others.
Keth Longstrider |
Keth considers the potion he has and takes Krokud's words to heart.....Later
Then he pauses to get his bearings perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 +2 vs Humans
Krokod Firetongue |
"I'd be happy to teach it to you, Brand. It would be nice to have someone I could talk to any time,"
Krokod continues to move and look about
Perception 1d20 ⇒ 20
Delgata Pesur |
Could you teach me too? It would be interesting to talk with fire. Are all fires the same or do they have personalities? What is the oldest fire you know? I wonder what fire thinks about us! Like if
Krokod Firetongue |
Krokod raises a brow at Delgata verbosity, then smiles, "I could try to teach you as well, but are you sure the flame could get words in edgewise?"
And, of course, they keep moving
Krokod Firetongue |
"I tried to leave those thoughts to the philosophers, but now they have become a bit more personal, I must admit," The oracle states, "I take it you know some of the languages of the other elements then?"
GM Birch |
Krokod continues to move and look about

The chest contains 24gp, four tiny pieces of jewelry probably worth 10gp each, a pair of sunrods and three potions of cure light wounds.
GM Birch |
After a few more minutes, Janiven catches you up. ”You made good speed, well done. “
She points to a marker pointing upward to the sewer entrance trap door. As you exit the sewer, you realise you’re in an out-of-the-way alley behind a condemned Shrine of Aroden. Janiven points to it. ”This now serves as a safe house.”
She knocks on a back door that’s cleverly disguised as if it were boarded up, and a few moments later it’s opened from the opposite side by a nervous looking man with a lantern. ” Ermolos, let us in.”
As you file through, by way of explanation, Ermolos shares the following. ” Arael decided to use this old shrine as a safe house because it’s a sacred place. Long-standing laws forbid the looting, rebuilding, or otherwise harming houses of worship work well to prevent too much Hellknight interest in the building. But we hide all indications that the shrine is now inhabited of course.”
Its facade is as old and filthy and all interior doors and windows are covered with dark curtains to block light sources from within. But the interior of the shrine is immaculate.
Janiven suggests you wash up, eat, and rest. ”And then I’ll introduce you to the group
Feel free to ask questions etc. until I move things on
Brand Firestorm |
Brand looks at Janiven and says, "Glad you managed to loose them so easily, was afraid they may have grabbed the prettiest member of our rebellion."
Next, he finds a basin and some water and begins to watch the horrid stench of burnt rat from his skin and clothes, while dabbing at the few remaining bite marks with a bit of alcohol soaked cloth.
"I'm afraid our time in the sewers hasn't been good for my appetite." He sets down and goes through his pack making sure he hasn't lost anything in the escape.
"How did the Hellknights find us in the first place? And who's this Arael I keep hearing about?"
Delgata Pesur |
Delgata will clean up and get ready to eat, a free meal is a great meal. He is still slightly confused on just what the organization is or wants to do, so not to look foolish he will make small talk with others and introduce himself.
...Sewers no back home we live in the open road in a caravan going from city to city, there are sewers there. It is a
Krokod Firetongue |
"A moment," Krokod says and he vanishes for a moment and digs out a chest from some rubble.
Sharing that spoiler
The chest contains 24gp, four tiny pieces of jewelry probably worth 10gp each, a pair of sunrods and three potions of cure light wounds.
"I think this will come in handy, no?"
When they get to the safe house he looks about.
Brand Firestorm |
After going through his pack and making sure everything is there, then looking over what Krokod has found, he decides that getting to know the folks he's entered into this conspiracy with would be a good idea.
He turns to Krokod and asks, "So where are you from my friend, Varisia perhaps? You have the speech of a foreigner, and this strange fiery tongue, where did you learn it?"
Krokod Firetongue |
Money is always useful my friend, nothing changes the hearts of men more then seeing the glitter of gold as it passes from my hand into theirs.
Krokod nods with a smile. He can't argue with that.
He turns to Krokod and asks, "So where are you from my friend, Varisia perhaps? You have the speech of a foreigner, and this strange fiery tongue, where did you learn it?"
"My family wandered, but yes, I'm Varisian born. I've performed in each of its major cities at one time or another. As for the fiery tongue," He chuckles, "I learned it while I was left to die in flame. I don't recommend that method of education if others are available."
Then figuring it's only fair to learn more in return, he asks, "What of yourselves? Do you both call Westcrown home or just passing through?"
Brand Firestorm |
"My family is from Kintargo, on the far northern border, we're a bit more... liberal there in what the law allows. Most unfortunate. Westcrown was to be me and my sister's new home. Adventure in the big city, you know, it seems life has become a bit too adventurous. But, a performer! Well, that is a happy discovery, a man of the arts is well appreciated. What is your vocation?"
He turns to Nebuchanezzar,"Sounds like you have a bone to pick with the Thrune's, although I hope murder is not your only goal. What about freedom?"
He asks Keth and Delgata, "Where are you gentlemen from?"
Delgata Pesur |
Delgata perks up hearing his name, he is getting tired of pretending to be a big time conspirator.
Vasaria, me too, my family was native there. We are more nomadic traders than most of the farmers or barbarians that hold to the land. My extended family is also a troop of performers!. Delgata does a back flip without breaking conversation landing in a handstand. Acrobatic, juggler, physical stuff. I always wanted to play the fiddle; my cousin can play and ride his unicycle on the tight rope while his monkey swings about him playing a cowbell with a stick. You would have to see it, hey do they sell monkeys here, they probably do it is a large city. So Magnimar, that is a big Cheliax city in Varsaria, and I spent the last few years trying to live a city life. Really nice things in that city, but that is how Gus got killed and he brought me here to revenge his death and ruin then kill the noble Mage that experimented on our other friend and killed him in a horribly slow and painful way with his necromancer magic black arts torture ways after he stripped us all down naked and tied us up in the basement.. Ends handstand in kart wheel.
After I ruin and kill the guy Gus should forgive me and I can return home. Sorry Gus, really am.. Delgata does not ramble out of respect for the dead.
Krokod Firetongue |
But, a performer! Well, that is a happy discovery, a man of the arts is well appreciated. What is your vocation?"
"I dance mostly, but I have a few other skills...even not including my affinity with flame."
He listens to Delgata's talk of his own background,
"We could be kin, Delgata," Krokod muses, "Distant cousins or the like."
Delgata Pesur |
Are you related to...
GM Birch |
After you clean up and eat, Janiven introduces you to the rest of the ‘rebels.’
As you join them they appear to be in a heated argument about what they should call their group. Some see themselves as rebels and freedom fighters and are pushing for names like “The Knights of Westcrown,” or “The Scions of Aroden.” Others see the group as something that should be gentler and more subtle in its attempt to win the hearts of the citizens. They push for less antagonistic names like, “Guardians of Cheliax” or “Children of Westcrown.”
This latter name is clearly the one with the most traction, currently. As you approach, Janiven smiles. ”An interesting conundrum. What do you think?” She looks to you for input.
Krokod Firetongue |
"I've heard of Mina... my third Cousin Judocio tried to woo her once...and..." Then Janiven introduces them to the other rebels.
"Which names should they go by? Mmmm... 'knights' sounds a bit stuffy to me and folks might confuse them with the hellknights who do not seem to be friendly. Children of Westcrown isn't bad. The Westcrown Defenders might be a good mix but I'm not of this city so I may not be reading the people right."
