Shasta finishes off the intricate arcane verse that wove its effect over the course of six seconds.

At the time she started casting, she could only include the kobold with the rapier in the effect, so he must make a Will save at -2 (from the lullaby last turn) DC 14 or sleep for 4 minutes. I took the liberty of moving Marduk adjacent to the Black kobold.

Shasta runs up behind Zadim and Hakime, drawing her wand of Cure Light Wounds as she runs.

If the one with the rapier (black) did not sleep, she will hit him with a Daze spell Will save, DC 13 . If he sleeps, she will tap Zadim with her wand.

Kobold Black Will: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 1 - 2 = 6

The kobold, previously moving with lightning speed, takes another yawn, fire snorting from his nose, as he falls backwards, snoring.

The kobold with a crossbow yips over his shoulder to the kobolds who fled just seconds earlier.

Draconic or DC 15 Linguistics:

"Human girl use bad magic on Wyrthyk! Wake him up now!"

Shasta then heals Zadim's burns, only charred clothing remaining as evidence of the fiery attack.

Draconic:

The kobold yips back at Gob while yelling at the others, mentioning 'Kithzak' again.

The trio of kobolds once again turns topside, now armed with spears. One moves up and kicks the sleeping kobold, who shudders awake.

Wyeth moves over while he has the opportunity and slams his weapon down at the prone kobold!

Wyeth fauchard @ Black: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Damage on hit: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

The kobold can't move fast enough and his chest is cleaved by the heavy blade. He's still conscious, but the amount of blood that is spilled conveys that he's in a poor state.

He gulps and breaths out more fire at Wyeth in retaliation!

Shasta staggers from the arrow to her chest, but realizes she can still fight and perform. She moves, trying to keep something between herself and all the spear bearing kobolds. After Marduk and Gob have moved, I will position Shasta where she will have cover from ranged attacks from all the kobolds if possible.

Then she calls out to the Pathfinders, "Hey guys, what's more fun than nailing kobolds to a wall? [short pause] Ripping them down again!"

And with that she expends one use of Inspire Courage: +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. This was based off her Perform (Comedy) skill. Just remember that Marduk and Gob's actions this round do not yet benefit from this.

Edit: as she moves, she draws her longsword.

Let's see, if it's a 30' pit and Marduk leaped 7' at his current size... pi over e to the nth, carry the two... yeah, just might work.

"Being stuck down there must be the pits, eh Marduk?" Wyeth chided with a grin before offering a quick chant and a hand gesture, ending with a finger pointed at the monk.

Invoking Enlarge Person on Marduk for three minutes.

"Now stop lounging around in that hole and let's kick some kobold butt, the fact that they're even hitting us is embarrassing!"

If he's 6'5 normally, that should put him at just under 13' with the ability to jump 2x7'. With his arms up he should be able to catch the lip of the pit. Or as wide as he is, he can probably just wedge himself against opposite sides and "walk" himself up and out.

It would have been nice to give us the information up front that the edges of the pit are sloped creating the risk of falling into the pit. I might have chosen a different action if I thought I might fall into the pit. There are other magic effects which create a pit with no risk of falling (Expeditious Excavation, for example) so in the absence of any description to the contrary, I assumed the area around the pit was normal terrain. Alternatively, you could have offered information about the risk via a Spellcraft check when the spell was cast or a perception check DC.

Deepmarket handouts Deepmarket maps

I rolled Spellcraft for you and Wyeth to see if you would be able to identify the properties of the spell, and if it succeeded, I would have moved you to a safer location; however both checks failed. I also made a roll earlier about a miner making a Reflex save to avoid sliding into the pit himself as a clue, too.

I am sorry that this feels like a "gotcha" action that you were led into by a lack of information. In the future,I'll try to remember to post spoilers for Spellcraft when a spell is cast in front of the party. However, I am sticking with things as is. Now let's game on!

Zadim extra crit damage: 1d4 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 = 9

Zadim cuts the kobold twice, once across the throat and the kobold goes down violently!

Marduk almost makes it up, but needs a bit more 'oomph' to bounce out of the pit The Acrobatics DC is 25!

With only one kobold remaining, it is only seconds before it is felled by the mass of the group's attacks.

Combat over!

Marduk manages to make his way out, taking Shasta with him only seconds before the pit closes. The miners' eyes are teary, the joy of being saved taking hold over them.

Inspecting the area, a single leather satchel rests against the altar, bearing the Glyph of the Open road. Otherwise, a number of masterwork and mundane weapons are recovered.

Hakime sighs, having been mostly ineffectual in combat, but knowing that will change soon as she gets better with her chosen weapon and its intricacies... She helps release miners and lets others recover the loot.

Man, I'm trying to be attentive but you guys wiped the baddies out between when I checked at lunch (when Wyeth wasn't up yet) and when I got home from work! Not that I'm complaining; good job!

And I woulda thrown you guys in the pit a rope, too!

Wyeth attends to his injured friends, making liberal use of his curative wand.

He then assists Hakime with the miners, checking for injuries and applying first aid where necessary.

To be nice GM... this is the end of the scenario as combat goes, so feel free to use spell slots of whatever instead :)

The miners, fatigued, will be able to make it back with the party's assistance. One of them, a middle-aged balding human, asks the party to return quickly. "The rest of the kobolds won't be too far off from returning here. Please, let us make haste!" Indeed, it seems as if the kobolds were waiting for such a call before frantic yips can be heard deeper in the jungle.

You still have time to look through the finds, including the backpack.

Once the miners are freed and capable of travel, Hakime will look through whatever has not been rifled yet - including the backpack. She'll also examine the weapons and armor and other items for signs of whatever evil these kobolds followed.

Hakime finds that the satchel contains a backpack, some spoiled rations, an elixir of wisdom, and a field book. The fieldbook contents are summarized in the handout under the Scions Handout link

The backpack is strange in that it doesn't register a magical aura, but it seems to act like a handy haversack and also contains a salve of stone

I am sorry that this feels like a "gotcha" action that you were led into by a lack of information. In the future,I'll try to remember to post spoilers for Spellcraft when a spell is cast in front of the party. However, I am sticking with things as is. Now let's game on!

I wasn't asking for a ret-con, but I would prefer the spoiler with a Spellcraft DC, so if I make the spellcraft roll, I can decide for myself what to do in response. Shasta's nickname is "Lucky" so she might have moved there anyway, trusting to luck to keep her footing but she also might have made a ranged attack instead.

But I also puzzled why we did not get a description of the fact that the ground slopes down toward the pit at the edges. I see nothing in the spell description that would suggest the slope is somehow hidden by an illusion so you'd need to make a spellcraft roll to know about the risk.

If I were the GM, I would tell everyone that within 5 feet of the pit, the ground slopes down, making it possible that a character might slip if he/she moves through those squares. The person who makes the spellcraft roll might be able to tell something about what kind of DC the save might have. Others would have to guess at the risk. Otherwise, I don't see why the characters who can see the pit should not be aware of the risk. Just my perspective on the situation.

Hakime calls the others over after reading the journal page. "You should all read this, I think it's important. " When all are gathered, she'll point out the other items as well.

What is the significance of the Glyph of the Open Road? I looked on the Internet but could only find images of it, but nothing about what it means in Golarion. Is it used by a particular faction or is it a Pathfinder glyph in general? I feel like I should know this but this is the first time I remember dealing with it. If we need to make a roll to recognize it, let me know. I'll roll Knowledge (Local) for grins. If it helps, Shasta worships Sinashakti, the walker of worlds.

Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
