Whoops... forgot to handle Twigg spraying of the colors!
Krenar Will vs DC 17: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Seeing the gnome come up and starting his incantation, Krenar prepares himself and is unfazed by the burst of colors.
"Try that on my, ya rapscallion! Think Snarltongue will make good use outta you!"
However, Mexel is far more successful, biting and clawing at the man. Mexel is somewhat confused that one strike that should have hit was blocked by an invisible barrier, protecting him from more grievous harm.
Two hits, Krenar down 16 HP!
Horgrym
|
As the acid sizzles on his skin, Horgrym's mood becomes a little more serious. He takes a moment to study the iron snake's movements before striking again.
Favored Target until dead or another studied.
Greatsword (FT, PA): 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 - 1 + 1 = 261d10 + 4 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 3 + 1 = 13
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 7 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 1 + 1 = 12
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Horgrym: This time around, the snake's armored shell is pierced; it still does reduce the impact of your blow somewhat, but it was definitely rattled by the power of your swing.
Amarthecthel
|
Amarthecthel is not at all sure the effect his spells might have on a construct, and worries that his light blade might do no real harm to it, either. But since Krenar is well-engaged, he does his best with the snake.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 231d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 221d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
Sorry for the delay; last weekend of my show so things were hectic! Should be good with my schedule for now.
@Amarthecthel: With your natural arcane knowledge, you happen to find a weak point your rapier would be useful against; while the creature's design still reduced your assault, it still damages it enough to finish the cobra off!
Recap:
Pelkin misses again
Guido tries to put himself out, but fails.
Krenar backs up and chugs a vial.
Twigg tries to color spray Krenar, but fails; Mexel does wound the man.
Horgrym damages the iron cobra.
Dyn heals some of Horgrym's wounds.
Amarthecthel destroys the cobra.
Round 3 go!
Will post Krenar's action tomorrow morning.
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
Barring something strange happening, this will be Krenar's action.
Surrounded on both corners, the evil alchemist chortles before yelling out, "Think you whippersnappers can stop my experiments? I was here FIRST!" Krenar then takes a deep breath and turns towards Mexel, searing hot fire shooting out of his mouth that also engulfs Twigg and Guido.
Fire Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 3, 2) = 12
Mexel Reflex vs DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Twigg Reflex vs DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Guido Reflex vs DC 15: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
While Twigg manages to cover his face to prevent more serious burns, Mexel and Guido take the fire full on.
6 damage to Twigg, 12 to Mexel and Guido.
Amarthecthel
|
"You really should have surrendered already," Amarthecthel says with verve as he leaps up onto the table to tower over the alchemist. "Being here first doesn't matter. Being here with lots of friends does."
Move SW, leap on table, attack.
Acrobatics (DC 5): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 = 91d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Horgrym
|
As Amarthecthel moves towards the alchemist Horgrym drops his greatsword and draws his bec de corbin while moving once southwest and twice west. There he takes a moment to study his new quarry from a slight distance.
Alchemist is my new favored target.
_Twigg
|
Twigg blasts the man with his wand
Wand of Magic Missile
[auto hit]
force damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Mexel continues to attack the bad man
claw 1 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
damage 1d3 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
claw 2 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
damage 1d3 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
bite 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
damage 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Dyn: Guido is also, very injured (I believe down 17 HP right now and more if he doesn't pass his Reflex save (assuming he tries to put the fire on himself out.
@Twigg: The magic missile blast is deflected to the side. "Thought you'd bypasst the defenses of ol' Krenar 'eh?", the man spits at you. The man continues to further chuckles at Mexel's attempts until the last swipe slams into his thigh.
@Amarthecthel: Your leap is easily enough to get on top of the table, the equipment still spewing forth green smoke that slowly settles to the floor below. However, Krenar easily sees your maneuver and ducks to the side, avoiding the swing.
@Horgrym: Moved you as you noted.
Guido Sansone
|
Still trying to put myself out. I forgot to put the +4 in there before not that it would have made a difference.
Ref: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 4 = 12
And is still doesn't.
Pelkin Norwind
|
Back from OwlCon, trying to catch up on all things PbP. Did the man provoke an AoO from me?
Pelkin growls a little as the man taunts the party. I've had quite enough of brash enemies that assault us with their tongues as well as their weapons! Pelkin misses wildly, obviously frustrated by the man!
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 for Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
I need a new dice app, please.
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Pelkin: No he did not; it wasn't a ranged attack, but he breathed out fire like a dragon!
A new app will be 19.95. S&H not included.
@Guido: You and Reflex saves are not happening this level.
Fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6. Guido's skin is still ravaged by fire as belts and other straps start weakening.
Just waiting to see what Dyn does. Hopefully something good for Guido!
Pelkin Norwind
|
So it was a special ability and not a spell? OK, just checking.
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Pelkin: The red vial :) However, in hind sight; give me a Spellcraft check. You, too, Twigg!
Pelkin Norwind
|
Aha! Forgot about that after all the gaming this past weekend. I think I know what it might be, but...
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Pelkin: The area and burst of flame seems to be that of the fire breath spell.
Dyn Ramil
|
Dyn steps into the room, and with a quick prayer, Dyn sends forth Korada's healing light.
5ft south, Channel, from bottom right corner of Dyn's square, it should hit everyone except Krenar
Channel Positive Energy: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Dyn: Had to move you slightly as Krenar was just in the area. I checked and he should be just outside of the healing love, but everyone else will get your blessings!
Recap:
Pelkin continues his non-hitting streak!
Guido is still on fire.
Krenar breathes out a blast of fire, wounding Mexel, Guido, and Twigg somewhat.
Dyn steps in and heals everyone except Krenar!
Amarthecthel approaches Krenar, but misses.
Twigg tries to magic missile the alchemist, but it is deflected!
Mexel gets a single claw attack to hit
Horgrym prepares to mark Krenar as his target, getting his reach weapon!
Round 4 - The Barbarian Flambéing!
Init Order:
Pelkin
Guido
Krenar
Dyn
Amarthecthel
Twigg
Mexel
Horgrym
Pelkin Norwind
|
I will bring you down! Pelkin's frustration is easily evident as he slashes his weapon at the enemy once more!
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 for Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Pelkin: You finally land a blow, your heavy blade cutting into the man's shoulder. "Finally remembered how to use that thing, youngin'?", he retorts back.
Amarthecthel
|
Assuming Krenar is still nearby, Amarthecthel attacks from above.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 = 81d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Guido: No more fire damage!
@Amarthecthel: You must be like Pelkin, third time will be the charm!
"You miserable wretches!", the alchemist curses at you all. "This won't be the last you see of me!"
He then reaches for a clear vial and drinks it!
Pelkin, Amarthecthel, and Mexel can all make attacks of opportunity. I'll note what happens after those are resolved.
Amarthecthel
|
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 1 = 151d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Maybe the fourth time.
Pelkin Norwind
|
Oh no you don't!
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 for Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Confirm?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 for Damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (7, 5) + 6 = 18
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Pelkin: No confirm, but that is a serious wound you caused!
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
Ahhh shucks... no more fun :P
"Damn you meddling kids... and your bear, too!" is the last thing Krenar says before slipping to unconsciousness, the vial smashing to the ground next to his body.
Spoiler alert: Extract of Invisibility :P
Combat Over!
As a GM tactical note for those who are not aware of it, when someone provokes an AoO by trying to use a potion/extract, you can target the AoO at the potion/extract instead! Great way to stop a bad guy if a single hit wouldn't be enough to drop him!
Horgrym
|
Horgrym moves back and collects his greatsword. "There sure are a lot of people down in this abandoned laboratory. And they all seem to be fond of alchemy."
Pelkin Norwind
|
I actually thought of it but I thought that would be at a -4 since I do not have sunder/disarm/whatever so I elected to hammer him instead. Plus he taunted me!
So it would seem, Horgrym. Pelkin will search the now fallen man after he stabilizes him, in case the group wishes to question him.
Amarthecthel
|
Irked at his failure to scratch the alchemist, Amarthecthel settles for rifling through his stuff while his hawk looks around the room.
Loot Krenar.
Glosrofel's Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Pelkin Norwind
|
Allow me, Guido. You took the brunt of the assault from this evil man and I am grateful for it.
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
If you need more just roll and I'll note the charges.
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
Besides a number of smaller vials, most of which bear a minor magical aura, a few things do stand out among Krenar's posessions.
1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (19) + 1 - 3 = 17
Krenar has stabilized!
First, there's a deep blue potion vial; next to that is a strange distillation flask that contains a similar colored fluid. Note, this item can be identified with a detect magic/spellcraft OR Craft: Alchemy. In addition, he bears a slender metallic wand with a green crystal tip.
In more mundane equipment, the old man has 2 vials of alchemist's fire, 2 vials of acid, a smokestick, a tanglefoot bag, studded leather armor, a masterwork dagger, and a large iron key.
@Amarthecthel: As you go through Krenar, Glosrofel tiptoes across the room. Peering under the bed, he squawks and flaps his wings, signaling something of importance!
Pelkin Norwind
|
Pelkin will attempt to identify some of the items as he comes across them while searching the now stable Krenar. After using Detect Magic,
deep blue flask: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
wand: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Parfin will then take his time to bind the enemy. What is under the bed? Perhaps something that this key might open?
Parfin will also take the vials of alchemist fire if no one objects. He'll share if someone requests one and would then take an acid vial instead.
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
The fluid inside the flask is a potion of cure moderate wounds. The aura of the item containing though is foreign to you; it does bear a moderate transmutation aura, though.
You aren't quite sure of the wand; it is an arcane wand, though, which is outside of your magical abilities.
Pelkin Norwind
|
Cure Moderate Wounds, this one. Pelkin will say to the party, However this wand is a mystery to me.
| GM BPChocobo TK1 |
@Pelkin: Just to note; both of the blue fluid vials are cure moderate wounds potions. However, one is in a normal glass vial, the other is in some other strange magical flask.
Pelkin Norwind
|
Ah, I didn't catch that.
Spellcraft on the flask itself: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Amarthecthel
|
Amarthecthel leaves the investigation of Krenar's personal goods to Pelkin and goes to look under the bed where his familiar is screeching.
"What do we do with him?" he asks, pointing at Krenar.
Pelkin Norwind
|
Pelkin will walk over to the chest and check it for traps. Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Assuming it is safe, Pelkin will see if the chest is opened by the key that was found on the man. If he sees danger he'll wait, of course.
Pelkin Norwind
|
Also, Pelkin will let Guido have one of the two potions. Just in case.
