"These Black Arrows, what do they represent? An organization?"

"Erm; they guard Fort Rannick. They're the rangers."

Spectrum gave Wyam an exasperated look, and shook his head.

"Ogres eat people, Wyam. They capture women and forcefully breed them. They torture creatures for sport."

"What does your God's sight tell you? Is this the sort of creature you really think will change if you show it mercy?"

How about some Detect Evil?

Male Human, (Current buffs:.) Paladin7/Cavalier7, HP. 66/66, Ac. 22, Flat Footed Ac. 22, Touch Ac. 11, CMD:21, Fort:+10, Refl:+5, Will+10, Initiative: +2, Perception +10, S. Motive +8, S. Evil 2/2/day, Challenge 3/3/day, Lay on Hands 8/8/day, Honor bound 5/5/day,

Wyam turned Fearghus around at both Spectrum and Isme's questions. "So beating answers out of him to save lives because he's a captured and currently helpless prisoner, regardless of his race, is wrong.
But killing him to save lives, because of his race, isn't?

You called him an Ogre-kin, right? He's at least half-Ogre in that case, but maybe not all the way taken by their ideals... I'd say you're sending mixed signals, but you already knew that." Wyam sighed.
"I'd call you manipulative if I didn't know you better." he muttered under his breath.

He grasped his holy symbol and glanced back at the Ogre-Kin. His vision seeking to find the soul of this creature.

Upon using his divine sight, Wyam detects the aura of evil from this creature.

[b]"Yes, precisely." Spectrum said, not seeming to understand the controversy.

Male Human, (Current buffs:.) Paladin7/Cavalier7, HP. 66/66, Ac. 22, Flat Footed Ac. 22, Touch Ac. 11, CMD:21, Fort:+10, Refl:+5, Will+10, Initiative: +2, Perception +10, S. Motive +8, S. Evil 2/2/day, Challenge 3/3/day, Lay on Hands 8/8/day, Honor bound 5/5/day,

Wyam's expression turned grim as he looked upon the creature. He did not know the cause, but now Isme and Spectrum's words held far more weight to him.

There was simply nothing else to be done. He trotted up to the creature lance held at the ready.

"You are neither a dark outsider of a far realm, Undead, or clearly marked servant of a dark god. Your soul is strong but corrupted through your actions. You are hereby deemed not innocent; thus I cannot allow you to leave here."

Without another word, he executed the Ogrekin.

"W-w-wait, wai-"

The ogrekin expires.

Shalelu shakes her head. "Better than it deserved."

Male Human, (Current buffs:.) Paladin7/Cavalier7, HP. 66/66, Ac. 22, Flat Footed Ac. 22, Touch Ac. 11, CMD:21, Fort:+10, Refl:+5, Will+10, Initiative: +2, Perception +10, S. Motive +8, S. Evil 2/2/day, Challenge 3/3/day, Lay on Hands 8/8/day, Honor bound 5/5/day,

"Now let's go." Wyam said, turning to head in the direction of the homestead once more.

Male Tiefling Alchemist (Beastmorph/Vivisectionist) 6, Master Chymist 1 Buffed AC: 31 T:14 F:28 | HP:76/76| CMD:28 | F:+8 R:+9 W:+2 | Init:+3 | Perc: +11, Darkvision

Before Wyam can go far, Reynard speaks up. "We should dispose of the body somehow. This creature did not sound like a loner. If its cohorts come looking for it, a corpse might give our presence away."

Shalelu turns back, retrieving the bodies of one of the burned wolves. She drapes it over the ogrekin, cutting a leg off with a blade to let blood trickle over the body.

"Predators'll be on this in hours; call it burial by forest."

The party advances towards the homestead.

Are you making any pains to be stealthy or scout ahead?

Male Human, (Current buffs:.) Paladin7/Cavalier7, HP. 66/66, Ac. 22, Flat Footed Ac. 22, Touch Ac. 11, CMD:21, Fort:+10, Refl:+5, Will+10, Initiative: +2, Perception +10, S. Motive +8, S. Evil 2/2/day, Challenge 3/3/day, Lay on Hands 8/8/day, Honor bound 5/5/day,

Stealth, not so much, but with 3 telepathic Pseudo Dragons, and a skilled ranger on our side, scouting is definitely an option we are going with. Having Shelalu go ahead and having the familiars stay within each others telepathy radius ought to give us an easy 200 to 250 foot distance of scouting. This way, they'll have a little room for error when it comes to moving around.

Female Firepelt Cougar

What he said.

Perception and stealth checks from Glimmer and Array and Gwen then please.

Following directions, the dragons break through into a thin clearing, not far from the main path. The woods around it are decorated with hanging fetishes made of cornhusk and leather, sculpted into terrifying shapes and figures. A tangled field of corn and other diseased plants grows in the eastern section, and to the north slump two sagging buildings, a barn and a farmhouse, with windows boarded over.

The pseudodragons flit through the trees, silent scouts on draconic wings. Leaning against one of the buildings they spot an immense ogrekin with a huge puffy mass of overgrown tumors and bone on the side of his face making his head look like some warped pumpkin. The creature is bent over a piece of flint, whetting a vile hook-weapon.

There's an ugly guy who looks like a rotten pumpkin. He's sharpening a hook. Looks mean. Glimmer reported back.

Does mr. pumpkin have anything like a signal horn, or other device for calling for help or reinforcements?

He does not

Spectrum was still gliding silently above the ground. "An ambush may be possible." he said to the others.

"Reynard and Shalelu can circle in opposite directions to approach from the sides. Wyam can come from this direction, and I can fly above and past to approach from the other side. The dragons can relay to keep us coordinated."

Male Human, (Current buffs:.) Paladin7/Cavalier7, HP. 66/66, Ac. 22, Flat Footed Ac. 22, Touch Ac. 11, CMD:21, Fort:+10, Refl:+5, Will+10, Initiative: +2, Perception +10, S. Motive +8, S. Evil 2/2/day, Challenge 3/3/day, Lay on Hands 8/8/day, Honor bound 5/5/day,

Wyam nodded at Spectrum's plan. "Alright, I'll give you a few minutes to get situated. Then I'll go in and we'll hit him all at once. I won't be too quiet, so hopefully it'll set up an ambush for me, thinking I'm just another hapless victim and won't see any of you coming."

"Or I can just fly in from above and hex him before he knows what's happened," Isme suggests dryly. "Well, if he manages to resist, you can do what you like."

If they agree or would like to be situated first before Isme hexes, she'll fly in and use Slumber (Will DC 18). If he can resist the first time, Isme can repeat Slumber one more time.

Following the plan, you take up positions around the clearing. Wyam strides his way up the road as the ogre looks up in surprise and a sudden fit of greed.

Isme, Reynard, roll stealth against a DC of 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25. If you succeed, you get a single standard action in this surprise round.

Isme, standard action only so I'll assume you stay where you are and cast.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

The ogre blinks, it opens its jaw and a vaguely questioning grunt emerges; then it drops to the ground, snoring loudly, drool pouring out of a distended mouth.

Combat basically over; deal with the ogre as you see fit, I'll describe the next bits.

This moss-encrusted, decaying farmhouse slumps drunkenly at the edge of the damp forest clearing. Rickety steps crawl up to a porch covered by a huge eave held aloft by thick pillars of pine. These timbers are decorated with crude carvings of manticores impaling children with their tail spikes and women being ripped apart by wolves. The carvings look like a child's work, but the subject matter grows more gruesome and depraved from one depiction to the next. An unsettlingly large rocking chair of lashed wood and bone sways erratically in the breeze at the far end of the porch under a vast menagerie of wind chimes composed of decidedly humanoid bones. The house's windows have all been boarded up with thick timbers, although it's unclear whether this was done to keep intruders out or imprison whatever things make their home within.

A great and dingy barn lies on the western corner of the clearing.

Spectrum hovered over the ogre, waiting for Wyam to put it out of it's misery, or to come up with a reason not to. He gave a nod of his head toward the farmhouse and the dragons took off towards it.

Wyam makes his way quickly over to the Ogre. Looking at the barn ahead of him, he made his decision and finishes the Ogre before it has a chance to recover.

"Inside?" he nods to the Farmhouse, questioningly at Spectrum.

He took a moment to pray for protection from Iomadae

Then he tried to open the door quietly.

Isme searches the ogre's body before they move on, taking time to peer at the carvings before the party assaults the house.

Touching the front door, the slight pressure leads to an ominous creaking as sharpened bone spurs mounted on a hinged rack swing down to smash into Wyam and Reynard.

Wyam

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 5) + 7 = 16

Reynard
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 6) + 7 = 15

A quiet, bestial chuckling is heard from deeper inside the house.

Hissing with pain from where the bone spurs had raked his back, Reynard jumps back and bring up his blades, eyes flicking back and forth, searching for any threat he can combat with blade or spell.

Wyam's arm was struck by the first shot of bone spurs but thankfully his armor just barely shielded him from the second. Healing his arm he narrowed his gaze against the laughing figure.

He raised his shield and entered into the house.

A mangy bearskin rug lies before a tremendous hearth set into the wall, its pained visage still snarling at whatever cruel hunter took its life. A huge couch haphazardly upholstered in animal hide and human flesh, replete with a collection of talons, monstrous hairy spider's legs, fox heads, and human hands and feet, sits to the west.

Spectrum was momentarily upset when the traps went off. He had studied ogres. He should have known better. His anger gave way to concern for his allies, but they seemed largely fine.

Glimmer, help Reynard. he said mentally.

Then he gave a grim smile. Whoever was in there knew they were here. No reason to bother with stealth any longer, and no reason to engage them in their lair.

He mixed a bomb and shook it.

"Wyam, tell whoever is inside that they can either come out to face us, or I can blow up their house."

Wyam was sickened as he took in the sight before him. His anger was jyst befinning to truly surface when Spectrum spoke. He had to laugh a little himself. He often forgot that Wizards could sometimes approach a problem with mass destruction as an option.

"If you can hear and understand me, we are going to offer you a chance to surrender right now. Either you can come out willingly, or we are going to level this entire house down on top of you and everyone else inside!"

Intimidate: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Getting on a plane ina bit, will post in a few hours. Looking through things, seems the designers really ddin't think you might be able to knock down the house. Yet there's no reason why not. Plus, that nat 20 intimidate check.

For a moment after Wyam speaks, there's silence. Then two noises are heard.

Firstly, the air-hiss sound of someone using teleportation magic.

Secondly, high, keening screaming, crying and weeping rising from two terrified throats from deeper within the house.
