So reading the new PFS rules, looks like 5x4+5 = 25/6 = 4.17 = round to 4 calculates to tier 3-4 for 6 characters.
If the pre-gen is level 7 then 4x4+5+7=28/6 = 4.7 = round to 5 which calculates to play up to tier 6-7 scaled for 4 characters.

After giving it some thought (and mainly because of the chronicle, i admitt) i would much prefer to use my sorcerer here too. Sorry to say.
Would be a level 3 serpentine sorcerer.
Is that ok and doable with three sorcerers?

How do I change the sub-heading below my name to reflect all my stats like Kuraishimo has his in the gameplay posts? or is it not needed?
The first 3 lines in the option fields print under your name when you post. Aarvid will have to decide if he wants that detailed information in there. Some do, some don't.

GM Aarvid |

In the meanwhile, I have sent out faction missions to those who already posted. You will receive those from your contacts in Magnimar after you conclude the audience with the venture captain.

As I understand it, earning fame is now separate from the faction missions. So we earn 1 point by completing enough encounters to earn 1xp and the second fame for completing the mission as given to us.
I think eventually there will be a secondary objective document to replace the 1 for 1xp but that is now out yet.

That would be the fields on the left-hand side of the screen: Race, Classes/Levels, Gender.

OOhhhhhhh, figured it out :) Thanks

I had made a non-PFS alias on the boards with the name of the character I was going to apply the chronicle. Then download the 4th level pregen of your choice and paste the stat block into that new character.

GM Aarvid |

@Seth86 - You can go to https://secure.paizo.com/paizo/account and create a new alias. I am not sure this is the best way for a pregen but it worked for me.
I think we are about ready to move out. I am going to make map tokens for everyone based on their posting pic. So now is the time to change it if you are not happy.
Also, I have another person that was interested in playing this, so I was toying with the idea of splitting the table into two and picking up our two alternates. Was not sure if the 5 of you already on the boards would want to start and have Seth86, and 3 others form a second table?

![]() |

As long as you have enough for a 2nd table, I wouldn't mind going with five here. It would be nicer for the ones who wanted to play pregen who bowed out in favor of those with regular characters, I think.

The inbox where it should be is at the top of the page on paizo.com: next to "Welcome, YOUNAME!", it's a small letter icon.

GM Aarvid |

Ingra - that is my fault - I checked and I did not send yours with the others as I was going to do two GL at the same time but did not have the other character at the time. Sorry for the frustration. It will go in a few mins.

Brought over here so we don't clog up the game play thread any more.
ok thanks. But UMD is not a class skill...
All a class skill gives you is a +3 bonus. You have a charisma of 8 which is a -1. So 1 rank gives you a +0. So for a long term buff like Longstrider you 'take 20' to get an activation of the wand using 1 charge. Unlike in previous editions, failing the check does not use up a charge.
For a short term buff like Shield you might not want to get a wand unless you have put in a few more ranks and have a decent chance of activating it in 1 or 2 rounds.
I bought a wand of speak with animals so that out of combat I can talk to my summoned animals and have them do things other than fight for me.
Of course for me it is a class skill and I have a high charisma so it is more efficient for me. But I don't think enough ranks to get to a +0 in UMD is a waste for any character. Then you can eventually heal yourself with a wand even if you are the only survivor.
I saw a fighter/lorewarden a few months ago that is carrying around I think it was 11 wands of cure, buff, and utility spells.

![]() |

Can't take 20 on UMDing a wand because if you fail and roll a 1 you can't retry the wand for 1 day.

... Try Again: Yes, but if you ever roll a natural 1 while attempting to activate an item and you fail, then you can't try to activate that item again for 24 hours.
Special: You cannot take 10 with this skill. You can't aid another on Use Magic Device checks. Only the user of the item may attempt such a check...
Hunh, you are correct. I have never noticed that. I don't think I have ever seen anybody enforce that rule.
Well, I still think it is worthwhile to put a few ranks into it for almost every PC. Might want to get a little better than +0 though. I also often take/recommend the dangerously curious trait for a total of +4.

![]() |

Your UMD bonus would be +2.
But you either need to roll or take 10, which is only getting somewhere once you hit the 20 you need to activate the wand.
Of course it´s a good thing to have though.

GM Arvid: By reading a thread on these boards just now, I've realized that one of my traits (Defender of the Society) isn't legal for a non-Fighter. Since it actually does nothing right now (I'm in light armor and the feat only provides a bonus to medium and heavy armors), can we suppose the trait is "lost" for now and I'll choose a new trait to replace it with "Armor Expert" at the end of this scenario? Does it sound okay?

![]() |

Let me guess, you used herolab?
This is kind of a surprise, but i was sceptical seeing the prerequs for all those traits removed in herolab. Felt somehow wrong

GM Aarvid |

@Rysalius - if it is not legal for play, then that is fine. Is it only available to fighters, or just those classes with heavy armor proficiency? Since any character could take the feat to get that.
Anyway, I am fine to make the switch at the end as you propose.

![]() |

My PFS Lavode De'Morcaine: Forgive me if I'm missing something but I'm not sure how you are activating wands at a higher caster level.

![]() |

My mistake. Read that wrong. They use it as if one level higher. Would have been too nice^^
How will the animals be handled? Same initiative and surprise?
Not quite sure how that would work out, but in theory i could just tell the lizard to do something because i can talk to him. Could i use his action to move then and Pai Song´s to do something else?
Nice map by the way!

Yes, the trait can only be taken by fighters, but I somehow overlooked that pre-req. Anyway, thanks!
@Pai: Yes, and I think I know why HL didn't mention the pre-req. In the Faction Guide (where it's PFS legal) those traits are clearly limited by your class (a fighter is the only one allowed to take Defender of the Society, etc.), whereas in the Shattered Star Player's Guide, where these traits have been put again, the pre-req doesn't exist anymore. Thing is, SS Players' Guide isn't PFS legal. HL overlooked that technicality, but fault is mine first and foremost, since I should have checked in the Factions' Guide the original text. That'll teach me to put too much trust into HL.

Hmm... Way back when I made the character, I asked what it meant on the rules forums. That was everyone said it did. Ok, just make it 1 hour for now. I can't find the old thread, I will start a new one to ask again.

![]() |

Maybe it did and it was changed. Maybe it still does. Sometimes it´s really difficult to figure out some stuff and i just consulted herolab, which is definately not a reliable source.

GM Aarvid |

@Pai Song. I read a ruling somewhere that being able to talk to an animal still requires a handle animal check. I will see if I can dig that up. It came up with me since I have a character with a wolf with 6 intelligence...but still needs HA.
Edit: And I handle animals, eidolons, familiars on the same init as PC's

![]() |

Really don´t know since i didn´t look into that topic much yet.
Will take a look too.
Edit: Not sure about the talking, but most seems to be handled by riding skill. Will use that until i find someting else.

GM Aarvid |

@Lavode - Here is the PRD quote on the starting a full-round action.
Start/Complete Full-Round ActionThe “start full-round action” standard action lets you start undertaking a full-round action, which you can complete in the following round by using another standard action. You can't use this action to start or complete a full attack, charge, run, or withdraw.

If you are interested, the recent discussion was here.
Half-Elf and Arcane TrainingLooks like pretty much everyone agrees the info I was originally given was wrong.
It won't do anything for me using wands. Has a slight potential effect when using scrolls. And could be quite helpful with staves.

BTW - I will be traveling out of town this weekend for Labor Day holiday, so I will have limited access to post from Friday until Monday night when I return.
