Looking for a player or maybe two to join this ongoing adventure! The group is just now leaving the City of Greyhawk to return to the nearby ruins to see what can be learned there. In a nutshell, the famous Riggby (a powerful cleric and one-time member of the Circle of Eight) has passed away peacefully, his body returned to the City of Greyhawk where he will be buried. Rumors circulate that others of the original Circle have returned to the glorious city known as the Jewel of the Flanaess in order to pay their respects - perhaps even the notorious Mordenkeinen (the once leader of the Circle) himself!
The party has come to Greyhawk for reasons of their own, and almost immediately fell into adventure before setting foot in the city. A band of orcs had just waylaid a caravan and the adventurers killed several of the raiders and drove off the few remaining. Among the dead was a badly wounded Ricard Damaris, proprietor of the infamous Green Dragon Inn. Besides the personal assault, his magical sword had been stolen by the raiders and he asked the adventurers to retrieve it for him. Their trail led them to the nearby Ruins of Greyhawk, where they entered the Tower of War and found a good many orcs and their powerful employers were dwelling. Led by one known as The General, the monsters had been systematically raiding local caravans, apparently well-informed of their routes as well as their cargo. After defeating The General and laying waste to his nefarious plans, the party has discovered that even that powerful leader answered to another, and that there was much more at work here in the Ruins of Greyhawk than they'd originally thought.
Back at the Green Dragon Inn, the party has learned that the notorious Lord Robilar (the original owner of the Green Dragon Inn and the once-companion of the mage known as Rary, who betrayed the Circle of Eight during the last days of the Greyhawk Wars thirteen years earlier) was suspected to have returned to the city as well in the guise of a soldier known as Captain Gallancz. Whether or not this is true is still unknown for certain, but the heroes are currently planning to return to the ruins in order to investigate the Tower of Magic. Perhaps whoever is the power directing the actions of The General can be found there...
The party is currently composed of four 9th level characters. A fifth player has gone radio silent for a couple of months and I'm looking to replace him and bring in another as well.
Reonynn - Male Halfling Warlock 5 / Swashbuckler 4
Morrow - Male Human Duskblade 5 / Abjurant Champion 4
Morgrym - Male Human Fighter 6 / Barbarian 1 / Cloistered Cleric 1
Verdan - Male Human Cleric 6 / Radiant Servant of Pelor 3
The party could use a rogue-type for sure, and perhaps an arcanist as well. But pretty much anything is open if you'd prefer. I'll give dibs to those I feel would best suit the party balance though, if I get multiple players showing interest. I wouldn't mind seeing some other races for characters as well, just to shake up the party dynamic in that area.
Please don't apply if you aren't going to be in this for the long haul. We've had a good deal of attrition thus far, but this is a good place to write some new characters in. Play-by-post is not for everyone, it takes patience and commitment to see the whole story through.
Character building rules can be found in the first post (with a few further notes maybe scattered in that first page as well when I answered some questions), so please check that out and let me know if you're interested!

Yes, that list is fairly outdated - was used on the 'old' board that this adventure migrated from. The Magic Item Compendium should be fine, though if something seems grossly overpowered for the campaign I reserve the right to deny it.
Pretty much all races and classes, feats, etc in the splatbooks mentioned are fine. Again, if I have issues with something that seems unduly overpowered or unlikely in a Greyhawk-based campaign I'll let you know. To avoid a lot of work on your part for something I won't wind up allowing, probably best to give me an idea of what you're looking to create and I'll let you know if it sounds good. Chances are I won't deny a player their choices!
GM West
Warmage or rogue sound great! I'd have to rule out aasimar though - sorry, that seems more like a Forgotten Realms campaign than Greyhawk. But obviously elf would be a great choice too!
I know one of the books has different elf subraces, where I think a high elf gets a bonus to INT rather than DEX if you decide on warmage.
GM West
Forgot that detail about the Warmage. And no problem about taking some to think over your options! What I'll do is introduce you (and/or anyone else) in the adventure as soon as I can, once you figure out a few very general details about your character. You can take more time to flesh out your character sheet with stats, equipment, etc once we're underway.
And even if you need more time to consider the character in even the most general terms, I'll just retcon you in after the fact with no trouble.

If you are still taking apps, i was looking at some options and wondering if they would be ok.
Whisper gnome: races of stone
Penetrating strike alternate rogue feature which allows 1/2 sneak attack dmg against creatures normally immune if you can flank them. expedition to castle raven loft
Dread commando prestige class: heroes of battle
GM West
Seems like an interesting class, Ironperenti! Grimdog has dibs, but if he goes arcane class you've got the rogue slot. If Grimdog prefers the rogue slot, you could go with another, if you'd like.
Either way, I'll give Grimdog another few days to respond. If I don't hear back, the rogue slot is yours and I'll keep looking for an arcanist type.
GM West
Ironperenti, I think a Wizard/Loresmaster would be a fine addition to the game. Kevan, either the rogue shadow gnome OR your elf multiclass would work just fine!
Please get your submissions up and running (again, per the build rules outlined in the first post of this recrutment thread) and I can get you introduced immediately! You're all going on a field trip to visit the Thieves' Guild in the City of Greyhawk. A once in a lifetime opportunity!

Opening up recruitment for another player to join this group! I'd be able to write you in pretty quickly, with one caveat... I'm looking for a rogue-type build that can hold their own in close combat. If I get no takers for that, I'll make it work, but writing the character in might take a bit more time.
The group already has a wizard and a cleric, along with a warlock/swashbuckler and a duskblade as well. But yeah, a rogue/fighter type of combination (doesn't have to be those classes specifically of course!) would definitely get first dibs.
You'll need to build a 10th level character, per the creation rules outlined in the first post of this Recruitment tab. Go ahead and use the Wealth by Level table to come up with your gear (including magic items), subject to my approval.
This game uses the D&D 3.5 ruleset, so keep that in mind. I'll get with you via private PM to come up with a background consistent with the Greyhawk-themed campaign world and the city of Greyhawk in particular - as well as the circumstances of your character's write-in. Thanks for your interest!
GM West
Of course! Pathfinder and 3.5 are a lot alike, though there are a few notable differences - especially with the way skill points are spent.
If you want to let me know what you're looking for I can make some suggestions and throw some links to some D&D Tools websites with character class details to help you out further.

I was curious if there were any roguelike casters? (examples- mesmerist, bard, inquisitor)
Sorts that can function as a melee combatant, but have a little more utility due to spells. Perhaps a gish if possible.
Other than that, any suggestions over a generic rogue/fighter are welcome. Such as something akin to the vigilante, or the like.

Bard would be another possibility - but again, if you'd rather go with another class (not one already represented in the current party), I'm fine with that as well. Just figured a rogue type heading into Castle Greyhawk would be a fine addition! Also had a good way to write in such a character coming up quick.

I've had a look around.. is the psychic rogue an actual splat class or a 3pp for the system? Or a swordsage?
I looked at beguiler, but I don't think they would cover the frontline part haha.
I suppose, what is more important? A rogue with the ability to frontline, or a frontliner with the ability to rogue?
I'm still considering the spell thief, as it looks rather interesting, especially since I could "borrow" spells from the wizard/cleric I think?
I was just wanting to know what I could pick etc. As the spell thief doesn't seem particularly frontlinerish.
GM West
Whatever you want to play is just fine, Rorek! A frontliner could be handy, as the party is short a fighter, but they can likely get by without a tank, especially if your character has at least some ability to get into a melee fight in tandem with the duskblade.
I'd say in terms of party needs, someone who can fight is more important than someone with rogue ability - though they have two arcane spellcasters already, so magical ability isn't crucial at all.
But truly, I don't want to force you in the least to pick a character based on party need if it doesn't look fun to you. Just go with whatever looks interesting!
GM West
Factotum... interesting! I've never seen that one before. But hell, the book it's from (Dungeonscape) has Rich Burlew (OoTS) as a co-author! Dang, that might be worth getting! Anyway, at the moment I don't have the splatbook with this class, so I'll take a closer look - but at a glance I have no problems with it.
I'm putting a link here so I can pull it up easy.

Still looking for a player interested in playing this epic 3.5 D&D adventure that takes place in the dungeons beneath the ruins of Castle Greyhawk!
The party could really use a rogue/fighter type, but if you're more interested in another class that's fine too - though a PC that can hold their own in a fight would be ideal as the party has no tank.
Currently there is a duskblade, a wizard, a cleric and a warlock/swashbuckler in the group. Please avoid these class choices for sure. Thanks!
GM West
Note that I'm aware of... but if you want to take 'Agile' as a magical weapon ability, I'll allow that. I know it's a Pathfinder thing, but magical weapon powers can always be created easily enough. Consider it a +1 enchantment as far as cost goes. Note that you'll need the feat Weapon Finesse to take advantage of this (and it needs to be a light weapon.)
GM West
By the way... if you want to join in the fun immediately, yours can be 'the horribly torn and mutilated body' on the altar. You're still alive though, but just barely (like 3 HP remaining) and are currently feigning unconsciousness.
Assuming you all survive, I'll give you some backstory as to what happened. You could either be a full on member of the Thieves' Guild of Greyhawk or an approved freelancer they hired for this particular mission - whichever you prefer.
You could either keep on feigning unconsciousness (oh, and give me a Will save from that Glitterdust spell too!) and stay out of the combat, or see if you can get the hell off that altar to some semblance of safety and join in the fun if you want. For this instance, don't worry about AoOs if you jump up and take off - they weren't expecting you to be moving anytime soon, if ever again.
After the battle (again, assuming that you all survive), maybe you join the party to get some payback from the bastards behind your horrific and painful ordeal. Or you can have another reason all your own. Totally up to you!

ahh...didnt realize it was 10th...thought it was 8th still...will add more stuff on...is it still 27k for gear? and i'll be a scout/rogue 9/1...forgot that Open Lock isn't part of DD...so a splash of rogue it is...and going to roll for HP here...speed things up a bit...
HP: 8d8 ⇒ (6, 2, 7, 1, 2, 6, 5, 6) = 351d6 ⇒ 6

Opening up recruitment for another player to join this group! A healer type would be great to have, though perhaps someone other than a Pelorite cleric - as I'm keeping a spot open for a player with that character should he return to the game in the future.
