Lief moves to box-in the normally fast Quilindra and strikes her again, more deeply this time. Ederin, tentatively, hesitates as he hopes things might be resolved differently. Ederin, please feel free to take your action, I’m going to move on, but you have a standard action remaining. Allarnon moves to block Quilindra’s escape, but she does not need to go that far to escape… Dimitrio too steps up, but alas fails to connect even with the flat-footed demon. Kaylayne’s ready does not go off as Quilindra fails to trigger her spell.

Quilindra tries to depart the playing field. Sadly a few thing have her stuck. First, she can’t get clear, so must cast defensively…

She smiles at the group, her spell having failed, ”Ahh well, I will be back, though it may take me some time to gather up appropriate trinkets again, and I will find you and exact what little revenge I feel is due for this, though I must admit the turn of events is lovely and worthy of story telling!”

Bloody, and nearly spent, she gathers herself for the next rounds abuse, standing tall and firm, waiting for your attacks.

Dimitrio - Quilindra wears a very supple studded leather, and has a force-shield up normally, though she has not had an opportunity to prepare it as yet. So no shield during this fight.

Sadly however, you fail to connect with either blow, though you only missed by one with your second attack if you've got something up your sleeve to help...

Allarnon still doesn't feel right betraying her.

We forced her into this action and position. We are supposed to be better than her. Not stoop to her level.

He sighs as he is left with little other choice. He slams into Tarkir. In an instant his fur sheds and joins into Tarkir, giving the smaller bear a bit more mass as he doubles in size.

Lief steps in and concentrates, hitting one more time and providing flank for Dimitrio. Ederin continues to hesitate, debating his inner demons Delay. Allarnon enlarges Tarkir, but alas the great bear, unused to his new size, misses. Dimitrio steps up and swings mightily, but he overextends, and fails to connect with the swift bard. Kaylayne continues to ready her spell, in the hopes of stopping Quilindra’s early departure.

Quilindra again concentrates on the task at hand, and tries to cast a spell…

Lief swings twice, criticalling once. Ederin halfheartedly shoots a few arrows toward the demon, though, perhaps as desired, he misses with this batch. Allarnon and Tarkir rake the air in a flurry of blows, and just as it looks like Quilindra will escape unscathed, one lands… Dimitrio misses as the body drops to the ground.

Quilindra changes back into her demonic form as she lies lifeless on the cold ground. Her few trinkets will no doubt swell the coffers of the party further.

…and we’re out of initiative.

On searching the body with detect magic:
You find a number of rather nice things. Her sword of course is a +3 spell storing rapier with blindness/deafness currently loaded. You also find +4 studded leather armor, amulet of natural armor +2, Belt of Dexterity +2, ring of force shield, ring of protection +2, a map of several aiudara including this path, silver anklet set with bloodstones (worth 300 gp), platinum ring set with a fire opal (worth 2,400 gp), and a silver and moonstone bracelet (worth 450 gp).

Lief takes the succubus's rapier, sheathing it alongside his own. He searches the body for the gemstones, like the one used to activate the first two gates they've passed through already. He hands the map to Ederin to allow the tracker to understand their final advance to Thorn's End. Taking possession of the bloodstone, fire opal, and moonstone.

"So, the fairytale was right. I didn't understand at the time, but I do now." I am the scorpion, not the turtle. The quasit, not the princess.

Lief waits for a moment. "Should we rest here, before attempting to reopen the gate? Or are we ready to proceed?"

Lief:
Well, Demons who are sent back to the Abyss, are typically kept there for punishment - failure of whatever it is their task was. That punishment can take years, decades, and even longer, depending on the severity of the failure and the whims of the overlord.

If you knew exactly what her task was, it might give you an idea of long or short period of time, assuming she failed. Of course the 'whims' part should not be underestimated. It's really hard to gauge what a chaotic evil being will do from one moment to the next.

Allarnon slumps down and stares at the crumpled form of the demoness. His face scrunched up in confusion.

"We forced her hand. It didn't need to come to this. We could have simply parted ways. What makes us better than her with what we just did?" Allarnon asks Lief solemnly.

"You never simply part ways with a demon, Allarnon. You still see it as an elf, with true feelings that can be hurt? Your eyes are clouded, Allarnon. Its very nature is abhorrent, and it served its purpose long enough to us. We only really needed its gems, the keys to opening these aiudaras. We have served drow, and we have consorted with demonkind. For what we think is the 'greater good'. As Kaylayne even admits, the world is less tainted now with the succubus gone. May it rot in hell for Elledariah's betrayal. And that's the only one we know of. Demons are ancient creatures. Who knows the suffering it wrought before serving us."

Ederin takes up position near the gate to show he's ready to move on.

Lief listens to Ederin state his mind plainly. There is no room for rebuttal, and he senses Ederin's previous irritations over confrontation, so holds his tongue for now. Doesn't sound like either he or she will be convinced otherwise, and I shouldn't have to justify myself in such an obvious case as this.

If everyone consents, he produces the different gemstones, and approaches the gate, offering up each in turn, until the gate responds. He marks which gemstone activates the Lichgate.

You can see from Quilindra’s map that a sapphire is needed to pass to the next gate. At first you glance through her things and wonder, when buried in an intricate design, a saphire chip is found gleaming in the amulet of natural armor she wore. It is sufficient to activate the arch to the TangleGate. You also know from the map that the fire opal opens an arch to the LichGate (so for example if you need to return here from the TangleGate, you’d use the fire opal to do so). To go from here to the IceGate you need a moonstone, and to GaltGate you need a garnet (I believe Kaylayne also has a garnet). Now that you know how these gates work, and have a map, I’ll assume you do the right thing at the right times so we don’t have to keep track.

You ready to step through the gate, the gate-gemstone warms in Lief’s hand as the gate flares open. The party charges through and the gate closes quietly behind you. In one minute you can activate it again to return to the LichGate

TangleGate is a stone arch sitting on a small sliver of ground amid a stinking, seething bog of tainted water. Deep in the forest known now as Tanglebriar, this gate is covered with clinging moss and the ground around it is thick with diseased and foul-smelling mushrooms. The elf gate itself looks remarkably well-preserved for the surroundings however. Circling the gate are floating globes of light, once golden perhaps, they have been corrupted into greens and yellows casting a sickly pallor over the whole scene.

To your right, you can barely see a ruined structure through the trees, but between you and it - hostiles! Two spiders the size of elephants - dark blue arachnids rearing up on their six hind legs to raise their barbed and razor-edged front claws - scurry forth, splashing through the shallow waters of the surrounding bog with terrific speed. They seem to have been waiting for you…

Kaylayne gives one of the demons a light dusting, the brightness of which dazzles the creatures many eyes a bit. Ederin’s bow wakes up to these demons as he hits several times - including a mighty critical! Dimitrio also does a job, criticalling on the poor spidery thing. Kaylayne rips three flaming beams at the demon who, surprisingly, has no defense against the damage. Ederin lays down a field of fire, but does not quite drop his foe. Dimitrio knows there’s some DR of some sort, but not what so I’m not sure what he’d do. You can boost your weapon next round if you wish. You connect once this round with a critical! Yet the creature remains standing, barely, until… Lief cuts it down with a mighty blow. Allarnon, the holy man, connects twice - raking the demon. Not sure if Tarkir would have moved to engage the new foe - it would result in an AoO. Let me know ‘cuase he hit if he did.

Now that Lief has been cracked, the demon shifts his attention to Allarnon, hoping to slow the damage being done. Surely it must know its life is measured in seconds now, but it presses on anyway.

Allarnon saves himself the trouble of the rot, but unluckily fails to connect with the spider as it falls to the ground.
